The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“It’s not a black-and-white story. It’s hard to neatly categorize the decisions of a Jewish emigre art dealer, who is living in the south of France, trying to survive and make his way out of Europe.” Victoria Reed, Senior curator for Provenance at the MFA

Quote II

Try not to panic. Keep in mind that bed bugs are only insects. They’re not magic. Believe me, they can be killed and eliminated from a dwelling.Jerome Goddard, Extension Professor of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology, Mississippi State University

Quote III

“As the host of Wheel of Fortune, Pat has entertained millions of viewers across America for 40 amazing years,” Suzanne Prete, EVP Game Shows at Sony Pictures Television.

The Beatles sang about them a long time ago. Taxman.

A supercar owner was left embarrassed after asking to use a police officer’s phone to tax it – only to reveal he couldn’t afford it.

West Midlands Police officers stopped an orange Lamborghini Huracan Spyder in Birmingham on Saturday for having no road tax.

The driver of the car, which is worth £168,000, claimed his friend had taxed the vehicle – but this turned out to be untrue.

Listen sweetie, "I'm all out of give-a-ducks." Sucks to be you.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A mother of two is without her car after a Missouri city towed it away from her driveway for having expired temporary tags.

Christina Reise lives in Calverton Park, located in St. Louis County, and feels like she’s losing everything.

“I just don’t know how they can come into my driveway and take my car,” Reise said.

Sister station KTVI uncovered an administrative search warrant signed by a Calverton Park judge on May 22. It allowed the city to tow and impound Reise’s car because her temporary tag expired two months prior.

Reise said she’s been saving up to pay the taxes.

“I’ve just been taking a little bit out of every paycheck and setting it aside — the taxes are close to two grand,” she said

I wonder if she was coddled growing up? Were her parents "friends" instead of parents?

Fox sure has a hard on for Tucker's new Twitter gig. Oh you better cease and desist Tucker or we will sick Paul Ryan on you.

FOX News Media has sent former FOX News Tonight host Tucker Carlson a "cease and desist" letter as he continues the launch of his new Twitter series, according his attorney, Harmeet K. Dhillon.

"My friend and client @TuckerCarlson will not be silenced — by the far left or by Fox News. Scoop: Fox sends Tucker Carlson cease-and-desist letter," Dhillon tweeted in response to Axios' initial report on the cease-and-desist letter.

Carlson's new, competing program, Tucker on Twitter, was reported to have drawn a combined 169 million views during its first two episodes. FOX News Media announced it and Carlson had "agreed to part ways," in a news release obtained by Mediaite.com on April 24.

I wouldn't burglarize a home. But, if I were to do it. I wouldn't do it like this Genius Award Winner.

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. —
A man in Sumter County is in the hospital after officials say he jumped from the second floor of a home that he crashed into and tried to burglarize.

Residents from Sandalwood Condominiums in Wildwood called 911 around 3:54 a.m. Sunday.

Callers told SCSO that the driver of the car was breaking into multiple apartments.

30 Jessie had a great opening segment tonight I thought. He started by discussing the Biden audio, but pivoted to talking about his NYC mom who only reads the NYTimes. She didn't know half the facts he threw at her.

The point he made is that maybe 10 years we all got the facts, probably with spin, but facts. Now we don't. The regime propaganda outlets just do not report. Period. So there are no Biden audios.

97 Well, Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of "Eat, Pray, Love" and other novels, is abandoning the novel that she is currently writing.

The planned novel was about the Lykov family - a family of Old Believers that fled Communist repression in 1936, went into an uninhabited part of Siberia, and lived completely cut off from civilization until Soviet geologists discovered them in 1978.

The reason why she's cancelling the book?

You can no longer write a historical novel set in Russia - the internet mobs will descend on you if you do.

The Guardian:

She [Gilbert] said over the course of the weekend, after announcing the book, she had “received an enormous, massive outpouring of reactions and responses from my Ukrainian readers expressing anger, sorrow, disappointment and pain about the fact that I would choose to release a book into the world right now, any book, no matter what the subject of it is, that is set in Russia”.

This is insane.

Acksully, what most folks call 'pot pies' are not. Traditional pot pie from the PA Dutch is a chicken stew with a very heavy gravy and monster, thick noodles. NOT dumplings. That is chicken and dumplings.

There is no 'pot' in what Swanson, et al. call pot pies. Those are more correctly chicken/beef/turkey pies.

So there.

Alamogordo is in New Mexico which does not have Saguaro cacti. Alamogordo does have the distinction of being down the road from where the first A Bombs were set off. The Saguaro's range is in and around Tucson, AZ. If you find yourself in Tucson a trip Saguaro National Park should be on the to do list. This is another example of the nice things New Mexico is not allowed to have. The driving difference is New Mexico is in the Chihuahuan Desert while Arizona in located in the Sonoran Desert.

It's a little bigger than that. You can see them well north of Phoenix metro area. I think along US 93 the farthest north saguaro is around Wikieup, AZ. A good number of them died in the Bush fire a few years back, you can see the slowly decaying bits that are left along AZ 87 heading north from Phoenix towards Payson.

You much to look forward too. A great trip is to fly into Albuquerque and head to Santa Fe. Spend a day or two there; there is a lot to fall in love with such as the doppios at 35 degrees North, the NM art museum, and the weather. The Santa Fe Opera house is mind blowing. After that head up the Rio Grande Valley to Toas. Be sure to head out the bridge that spans the Rio Grande Gorge. Taos can be a PITA ass to get around during peak summer (weekends for sure) because there is one road in and out. The Taos Pueblo is pretty fun as is the Angel Fire to Red River to Taos loop. You won't be bored.

Took him a minute to realize the cost was clear and he finally sped off into the woods.

Another scam. The Mayor gets a kicback from the tow yard. $1k to tow a car, and then they charge some crazy number for storage and make it impossible to get the car out. F--- them all with a chainsaw.

In mid-September, once the summer rush is over, the gulls at our summer place on Rehoboth Bay start dropping shellfish -- mussels -- from a height over the paved roadways in our development in order to break them open. The roads are littered with shellfish debris for days on end from their orgy of feasting.

Fun thing about that nowhere spot; about 10 miles out in the scrub from there is one of the most surprising Texas State Parks, one that few people know about or go to.

https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/balmorhea

it's a huge swimming pool built around a desert oasis/creek with a 25' deep creek running through the middle of it and lots of fish. Really unique place in the absolute middle of nowhere.

For most societies in the past, years were figured as "Year (X) of the current rulers reign". Sometimes that was expanded to dynasties; and Rome used the supposed founding date of the City of Rome as their year zero. Using AD and BC was a handy way to get everyone on the same page.

I had some very serious police show up at a small place that I've rented to various people over the years, looking for a guy in some child custody/child abduction case in Arkansas. Odd thing was that I know everyone who's been in that place for the last 20 years and I had never heard of anybody by that name - but they had copies of mail to him that went to that address. Finally figured out (took a while) that this guy was a cousin of someone who had lived there, and he had used that address as a mail drop for awhile (with his cousin picking it up for him) so that he could keep anyone from tracking down his real address. That didn't help the police much, by this time the cousin had long since vanished. But for a second there it kind of looked like I was harboring a fugitive.

By some miracle I got to see the Allman Brothers just before the blew up bigly. They played at Gold Creek campground in Redmond-Woodville, WA (at that time is was still fairly rural). They place had a smaller domed arena for horses as I recall. The band was late and showed up at about 1 to 2 am and played until something approximating sunrise to a pretty small audience. It was the first time I was able that type of band in my life - oh, my - the energy - and yes, Duane's slide playing was volcanic. I had some serious explaining where I was that night when I finally got home.
