What An Ice Boner Cafe

baritaly.jpg
Bari, Italy

Pranking a cat with Sticky Notes.

Also bedeviling a kitten with Sticky Notes.

A tidy chameleon.

Gopher spotter.

Don't celebrate before the game is won.

"Granular flow," I guess of large rocks in a river. I don't really understand what's going on here. It doesn't seem like boulders should flow like this.

Like a horror movie!

Trans pug.

Sexy, sexy capybaras.

Galloping... cow? I'm not sure.

Unchained meow-ody.

Luna the panther and her Rotweiler friend.

18 Last Church Lenten dinner in the books.

Brand new allergy soup I made was very popular tonight (nothing left) - my kids wanted a fruit soup, so I made a sweet banana soup with coconut milk and tapioca. It was an Americanized riff on a classic Vietnamese dessert soup from Food Network, but rather than sesame seeds for flavoring, I used coconut rum, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and ginger.

The organizer came up afterwards and thanked me for always helping the meal accommodate more people and bringing something different so there could be both allergy safe food and variety in the food. I didn't admit one reason there was always variety is b/c I didn't want to eat the same soup week after week (and I always eat what I bring)...

But it was great being out and bearing witness to truth and fellowship vs whatever was supposed to be celebrated today...

I almost always use coconut rum when I need a coconut flavor to actually carry through. The milk by itself just doesn't have enough of what most folks want when they think they are getting a "coconut" hit.

And to be fair, it turns out more "comforting almost dessert" than traditional "healthy for you" soup - but it does get 2 fruits into kids who only wanna eat mac and cheese at the dinner...

49 That granular flow is basically a mud avalanche. The boulders are caught up in it, and go along for the ride. The whole mass becomes a single body of fluid, much denser than water.

Can happen undersea, too, where they are called "turbidity currents", and they can move very fast. On was clocked on the seafloor of the Atlantic, when it cut several cables in quick succession.

I am sporting two bandaids on my left arm, because I was using pry bars to demount a tire from its rim, and one got away from me and shwacked me on the arm. Took off two pea-sized scraps of skin. I was lucky indeed. I thought, when time slowed down for the duration, that I was indeed chopping my fingertip off at the knuckle. I think the pulling reflex almost did the deed, too, when you think about the mechanics of an old-school garage door. I pull, the door comes down even more.

Hopefully I learned my lesson, but with me you never know. 😋

I don't think it was even that.

If we could see any actual data I suspect we'd find that the vast majority of the deaths were from forced non-treatment and "FDA approved" protocols like putting people on ventilators to be sure they died and the hospitals got their $14K COVID death money.

Remember how there were like five flu deaths that year? I'm betting it was because they were all counted as COVID deaths, and the additional COVID deaths were the murders mentioned above.

Colonial Beach is on the VA side of the Potomac. Way back when, gambling was legal in MD, but not VA. They built "riverboats" by digging a trench around the structure abutting the VA shoreline, and letting them fill with water. Problem solved.

I had seriously worked out how to leave both of my kids $1M back around 2017 or so, and now I'm not sure if I'll have enough to live comfortably through retirement. I suspect I'll be able to feed us, but not the frequent travel and such that I'd initially planned.

NC is around 25% black.

Cary, where wealthy white yankee locusts who celebrate diversity have moved and taken over, is 5% or so black.

I truly admire your generosity. I do. However, for us, the kids will only get "I love you" gifts from us once we go to our rewards. The kids know this - hopefully, they've learned they are mostly responsible for their own financial station. We do financially support a disabled relative but he needs it and cannot fend for himself.

We support a (very) few charitable efforts biggly and they will get the bulk of any $$$ left when we die. Unless they lose sight of their mission.

Oh, don't misunderstand. They're on their own when they leave, and they'll be paying for their car and insurance. We teach them to tithe and donate to known organizations (St. Judes, Baptist Childrens Home, etc.), and they know they're going to be eating ramen and peanut butter like nature intended until they get their feet under them.

I was really hoping to figure out a way to surprise them when I kicked the bucket, though. Cheapo dad left us what?!!!

I'm always surprised when people don't realize that 3-5+ tornadoes a week is pretty normal in that part of the world this time of the year, and a tornado watch every day is routine. We're usually fortunate that they don't hit cities (or universities like back around 2010), but sometimes they do. But those same tornadoes are all over the place in the South right now, same as always.

I'm certain most people think it's because of an increase in Global Warming, though.

Heck, even my AO in Alberta is subject to tornadoes and damaging hail. Not to the same extent as "Tornado Alley" in the USA, but they do occur, mostly late May through July. Had a bad one hit Pine Lake, about 20 miles north of my place. Destroyed an RV park, and killed some folks. That was 20-odd years ago.

Yes it sucks when a tornado hits a house (or trailer park) or town. It's scary just to grab the kids and head to the basement during a warning or to hear the sirens going off while you're at a grocery store.

They're still common this time of year, and always have been.

Posted by: World Trade Center 7 collapsed because of fires fueled by office furnishings. at March 31, 2023 10:01 PM (sIl7T)

212 Ha, Cary-ites would be pissed. Keep it up. Cary is a town, but I love that people think it's just a suburb of Raleigh. That's hilarious.

Posted by: World Trade Center 7 collapsed because of fires fueled by office furnishings. at March 31, 2023 10:04 PM (sIl7T)

213 Severe weather like tornados often occur in the spring and fall, when very warm and very cold air meet.
I learned this back in the day when the greatest weatherman in the world, Tom Skilling, would run an annual tornado seminar at the Fermilab in the Chicagoland area.

Posted by: Deplorable Ian Galt at March 31, 2023 10:09 PM (ufFY8)

214 Watching something on (maybe) History Channel YEARS ago when it actually had history on it and they were talking about rock slides and "granular flow". Being a road builder in rocky mountainous areas I was interested and they used one example of a huge historically devastating rock slide that went from the mountains across this flat desert area. It was a couple hundred miles across and maybe it was the Painted Desert, can't remember. But something really interesting was the fact that these were dry slides with no water involved. They had film of slides that looked like rushing water at first but were dry as popcorn farts and even at really close range you had to really look to see there were no liquids. This is where the "granular flow" comes in. Once a slide starts with the right conditions it actually forms and cushion of compressed air underneath and glides out on it making it go faster and farther then you would ever believe.

Posted by: allan Kenny at March 31, 2023 10:22 PM (8Oizz)

215 That granular flow is basically a mud avalanche.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 31, 2023 08:06 PM (tkR6S)

One of those flows on the North Sea shelf caused a major tsunami that flooded good chunks of late stone age Europe and drowned a large island area which is now the Donner Bank in the North Sea.
