  • There's a looming replication crisis in AI research. (AI Snake Oil)

More specifically there's a looming replication crisis for any research that involves the products of ChatGPT creator OpenAI, which in reality is anything but open. OpenAI is shutting down access to its Codex AI, giving researchers three days notice before a hundred scientific papers were consigned to the reproducibility dustbin.

That site looks interesting; it throws cold water on a number of overheated subjects in the AI space.

  • Nvidia's RTX 4000 SFF is a half-height Ada Lovelace professional graphics card. (Tom's Hardware)

Perfect if you need a second graphics card but your special edition Hololive PC case only has half-height slots after the first one.

It has 20GB of RAM and four mini-DisplayPort ports, delivers roughly the performance of the previous generation's RTX 3070, and uses just 70W of power. The 3070 itself has 8GB of RAM and uses 220W of power, so that's a pretty substantial improvement.

The price is, unfortunately, $1250. It would be quite a good card otherwise.

  • Meanwhole Nvidia's H100 NVL has 188GB of RAM and fills four full-height PCIe slots. (AnandTech)

And uses around 800W of power.

Price is not even mentioned, but if you assume it will cost somewhere between a new car and a new house you won't be disappointed. If you wonder who is in the market for such a thing, Nvidia's marketing says it offers "12x the GPT3-175B inference throughput as a last-generation HGX A100".

Yeah, it's aimed squarely at OpenAI.

10 Up early to work out. It's already 65 F. outside and humid with a high expected near 80. What little "winter" we had is over, and "spring" will soon be a memory too.

I forgot to put dry food in the kittens' bowls last night before I went to bed. They were looking at me hard when I got up. Fortunately they're not the type to walk around meowing or to try really hard to get me up. The late black cat Marie-Antoinette would bother me every morning. If I made the mistake of getting up to feed her at 5 am, the next morning she'd bug me at 4:30.

I think I'm beginning to understand why Google's laying everybody off.

The follow-up flooding from these epic rains are devastating. The Puget Sound region every few years in the fall and winter gets rains like this which in turn melt the snowpack. For extra credit, the accompanying winds will blow out the power for a few days. For once I'm withholding my mockery of everything California.

Meanwhile, the Chinese are kicking off building two new coal fired electrical generation plants every week and at the same time monopolizing all the raw materials needed to go into this lunatic green energy fiasco. For extra credit Xi and Putin agreed that all trade between China and Russia will be denominated in Chinese currency and that the Russians will use Chinese currency when doing trade in Asia. The Chinese have been waging war on the west for about 50 years and they finally look like they're going to win without firing a single shot. And if you never understood how the opium wars undermined China, all you need do is look at our southern border and what fentanyl's doing to this country.

But the state still collects money for launch permits and fishing licenses and our Senator John Fetterman is still in some psych ward.

71 Transgender athlete Tiffany Thomas, 46, dominated the field at a women's cycling competition in New York City over the weekend, despite claims she holds an unfair advantage. After only taking up cycling in 2018, Tiffany quickly found success and has dominated competitions in the years since. She recently landed a spot on the LA Sweat cycling team, where her oldest teammate is just 32. But her frequent victories have caught the ire of some critics, including former champion rider Hannah Arensman who recently quit the sport after she missed out on a podium place to a trans cyclist.

A Daily Prayer for Liberty and for a Holy Spirit Revival

"Free us from every force of oppression, both internally and externally. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties; by your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land. Heavenly Father, grant a Holy Spirit Revival in our land!" (Based on a prayer by the USCCB)

“As a result of a call from the Florida Department of Education today, the event has been canceled. The Department questioned whether the event was age and developmentally appropriate and indicated any administrator, teacher, or staff member in attendance may be investigated and jeopardize their professional license,” the statement said in part.

174 So just asking for opinions:

I have dogs and so does my neighbor. She also pet sits so she will have her two pups plus about five more at any given time. I am ok with that. To each his own and we have large yards.

My backyard is completely fenced in and adjacent to hers.

It bothers her that the dogs bark at each other but we both step in and do not let the barking last much at all. The most unrelenting barker is one of her terriers. This little one wont stop and i know it stresses my neighbor. I think part of the reason is that she doesn't want any neighbor to complain because it would affect her pet sitting side business.

We havent had a neighbor complain ever. I have lived here over twenty years and always had dogs.

Well neighbor wants me to notify her if I am letting my dogs out and also when they are in.

Sigh. I have dogs of different ages and one with Cushings who needs to go out frequently.

I find her demands to be too much. What do you all think? Am I being uncooperative?
