Toilet Bomb!
A toilet was used as an aerial bomb during the Vietnam WarOn November 4, 1965, some Vietnamese came across a very strange object that looked as if it had been dropped from the sky. Was it a bomb? Well, it had tail fins and a nose like a bomb. But it was white, and shaped like – a toilet? It was a toilet in fact. It had been dropped by a VA-25 A-1 Skyraider on a mission to the Mekong Delta in South Vietnam. It had come from Dixie Station, an aircraft carrier base in the South China Sea. The plane’s pilot was CDR Clarence ‘Bill’ Stoddard. As Stoddard approached his target, he began preparations for attack. He read the ordnance (list of weapons the aircraft carried) to Forward Air Control. At the end of the list, he read ‘and one codenamed Operation Sani-flush.’ What was Stoddard talking about?I bring this up not just because it's a good story, but also because I know many of you enjoy video games, and Cdr. Stoddard's Skyraider has recently been added to War Thunder:

Peterson's point is exactly in line with my understanding of Christianity. Well my nephew is a doctor that goes over every year to help. One thing I told them 15 years ago, you can't just make them a charity case, they should become some sort of "producers". They have since set up various ways to produce some clothing and other items, sold by the American church.
Other I knew involved in Africa said, the solution to Africa is in Africa, not in importing them here. China has their own ideas of how to conquer Africa ... Russia tried in South Africa ... and now, total collapse on the horizon.

Spring Break is now. Our girls BB team was just happy to get to the State 3A Tournament, even with the quick exit. The entire school was shut down for that game.
If spirit from the audience could win games, we would have won. It was funny to see the band and all the other HS students, except the cheerleaders, in Hawaiian shirts and straw hats. What happened to the sons of ranchers and farmers? Actually funny and cool at the same time.

The toxic charity problem is very real. "Fair trade" coffee for instance has had as much negative influence as positive for coffee growers. There are lots of other cases, like bringing in large troves of donated clothing has wiped out small clothing manufacturers/sellers in a region.
I think the worst though is my suspicion that the trend of adopting children from abroad has led to an increase in "orphans" to be adopted--because there is essentially a demand for them, and westerners pay for the privilege.

I agree with this. I mean, AIDS is a bad example since it was trivially easy to stop, but it was a new disease that was very harmful.
What bothers me most is how inept the authorities were at very basic protocol. In past the standard was to set up a "fever clinic" where anyone with a fever would go for testing. Keep that shit out of hospitals and don't worry about them infecting each other since they all got the same bug. Instead we had Dr.s gowning up between each patient, and stuck ventilators on the poor souls to stop them from exhaling.
That was the biggest lie -- all that PPE. This is down to the FDA since they regulate hospital procedures but they were unable to react and undue protocols that were absurd at that time.

Trump just smoked DeSantis and lapped the field at CPAC. Actual Republican primary voters and activists. And I think with every revelation about how rigged 2020 was and how awful Biden is daily Trump just gets stronger. He also has an enormous national team that has only gotten bigger since 2020.
I'm not going to argue about this cause it just goes around and around. I like both guys but I don't think DeSantis has a prayer of beating Trump in a Republican primary but we shall see.

That is exactly what I did. For years I have been running this acer but using a big desktop monitor. Then yesterday I had adobe problem and accepted that neither MS or windows are supporting 8.1. So I panicked and bought an hp refurb (with win 11 and office) but no monitor. I was afraid of missing a deadline, but i figured out the adobe problem already and just finished the work.
But I want to keep the acer as windows version backup. I like having backup system in case one dies.

11 has the advantage (so i hear) that you can switch language easily so that is a plus. On 8.1 on the acer the characters are so tiny they look like smudges. I think Japanese people can tell what they are but to me they are too fucking blurry. So I got the upgrade notices and did not want to deal with it.

There may have to be something more than just infrastructure. A friend of a friend was involved in building infrastructure in Northern Colombia, and to be fair and honest the investor insisted on the same benefits for the construction crew as they would get in the US, and surprisingly enough a lot of the local workers lost fingers for the compensation because it was more than they could get working locally.
One of the reasons the industrial manufacture of iron and steel was such a losing process in so many areas of the world prior to the 19th Century was that industrialization overturns an agricultural society, and a lot of the people who had great status in one lose their status in a developing industrial culture.

I think the dems will continue to double down on Ukraine because they see it as an issue in the upcoming. Trump has been pretty sloppy in how he talks -- I think he is right that the smart solution would have been to negotiate and that would mean Ukraine losing territory -- but that solution does not play well with the youth.
So the dems will paint Trump as a traitor and double down on calling the war an historic fight against evil. This is dangerous since if it is such a thing, how do you get out short of killing Putin? Have they learned nothing in all the failed wars this country fought?
But if they can keep the hysteria up for two more years, it will also effect the election. So they will keep the hysteria up, and the young will see anyone with a realistic outlook as a traitor.

My parents have done medical missionary work. My mom's been a nurse (we joke that she's a doctor south of the border) and my dad has very little official medical training, but has assisted the dentists and optometrists on these trips. (He's very good at charming local security guards and getting them to relax.) They look forward so much to these trips not because of the exotic locales, but because they get to help people who are in desperate need of it.

Now, Fed raises interest rates to slow down consumer and business spending... but.. that is not the problem. Ergo, raising interest rates will slow the economy BUT NOT FIX THE FUCKING PROBLEM.
The latest Congress hearings? were arguing over whether the cause of inflation was Corporate Greed, or too hot of an economy... NO MENTION OF GOVERNMENT SPENDING AT ALL. Business folks pay attention to this crap....
