Posted by: That guy who always sings... at March 07, 2023 07:41 PM (Xrfse) Sister of ZOD loved that song when it came out. On a family road-trip (she was young), she drew a picture of a girl calling 'Wildfire,' in colored pencil. The portrait had the girl's mouth open wide, with 'wildfire!' written next to her open, still curved mouth. Risible. Me first: "It looks like she's yelling Waaaafaaaa." "I know, right? Just an open mouth, going wah-faa!" You can't draw movement. She was so pissed in the back seat of the Oldsmobile. Younger sisters should be tormented early. I've had it with cheap Chicom shit. I had some old rusted, rounded off bolts on a plow that I had to cut off. Used an air-powered cut-off tool that uses these 3" thin cutting wheels (like a grinder disc, but thinner). Brand new one out of a pack I'd picked up at some damn auto parts place. Got one nut cut up enough to bang the bolt out, then went after another one. The damn wheel flew apart. Had I not had my face shield on, I could've been in the ER had a piece hit my face just right. This is nothing but cheap, defective Chicom shit, and somebody ought to be sued over this. They just don't care, and put this defective shit on the market now. I hate to say it, but the only way to fix that and make them care is to sue the shit out of them. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at March 07, 2023 08:30 PM (Mzdiz) 120

I never paid much attention to Sean Hannity; he's always come off as something of a tryhard. That one show he did with Alan Colmes was okay I suppose; two erudite, out-and-proud partisans debating stuff is probably as close as any news program has ever gotten to actually being somewhat unbiased.

On hats... one time a Friend and I were flying to a yuge Sword fighting event in Pennsylvania... from San Francisco... we were going to be there for 10 days...
So swords in the travel case... clothes... OK... but everyone there camps onsite and dresses appropriately while there (think private Ren Faire with actual fighting events). Well, the one thing we couldn't figure out how to pack, were our Swashbuckler Hats... sooooooo.... after a few Capt. Morgans... Told my friend, I'd fly in costume if he would.... so... we flew from San Fran Airport, in full on Swashbuckler costumes. Cracked me up because in San Fran, even when we were sitting in the bar waiting for our flight... no one would really look at us... but when we got one the plane and into Penn? People wanted pictures. We later joked that in San Fran? they just thought we made a really cute couple. Posted by: Romeo13 at March 07, 2023 09:36 PM (oHd/0) 235

Everyone has a different definition of what it means to "make it." For some people, it's a mansion and a Lambo. For me, it's a nice little house with a gas range. The gas range was always important to me. Mostly for it's utility. But partly because it's a luxury I could never afford before.

266 I'm too young to have ever known a time when ties weren't a rarity in the workplace. Hell, even C-levels had mostly ditched them when I entered the workforce in the aftermath of 2008.
Posted by: CppThis at March 07, 2023 09:52 PM (PZvjL) At one point, I KNEW I was going to be 'downsized'... even though I was the senior trainer who had hired most of the others.... well... I spent those last 2 weeks wearing all my obnoxious ties. Three Stooges? have 2. Loony Toons? Many. My last day? Marvin the Martian.... a la Paige... ie... Black Silk Marvin the Martian tie, Black Slacks, Black Silk Shirt... and this was when I still had my Long Grey Pony Tail, and Goatee (note, I'm 6 ft, 225 lbs, and have always been in fairly good shape). The boss who was supposed to tell me I was 'let go'? Would not even meet with me... Posted by: Romeo13 at March 07, 2023 09:57 PM (oHd/0) 278
It used to be that my favourite travel souvenir was a necktie representing the country I was visiting. For instance I have a tie with St Andrews Cross and another representing the pre-Colombian culture of Colombia.

By the way, Joel had a collection of 1 carat gems of all sorts, like 10-15 of them. I asked at the local jewelry store and they aren't interested. I have no idea what to do with them other than put them in a treasure chest and drink lots of rum
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 07, 2023 09:50 PM (0hOvj) Go to a couple of coin shops, and try some of the watch repair places. A lot of them like to have stuff like that on the side. If nothing else they will give you an estimate of what they would pay for them. Jewelry makers might be more interested in it than a retail shop, some of the chain places have their own jewelers and sources and don't have any ability to buy outside of their contracts. Worth a shot. Unfortunately they don't have any paperwork showing authenticity, so I'd have to get them assessed, which probably costs more than they're worth

272 I have a few nice neckties and shirts, but zero sport coats. And no suit. Nary a suit in my closet.
Posted by: Pug Mahon, Keith's Son at March 07, 2023 09:55 PM (UQUAY) I do have a suit, but it's not a very good one. I'm just old (school) enough to think that one should wear a suit to job interviews. I'm apparently going to Europe on a serious business trip later in the year, and I need to find out more about the expected dress code and whether suits are going to be a thing. Answer's probably no, but best to make sure before embarrassing myself in a room full of corpo types. Posted by: CppThis at March 07, 2023 10:00 PM (PZvjL) 283
I like wearing neckties.
Posted by: N. Lurker at March 07, 2023 09:53 PM (eGTCV) I took the collar off of a number of my shirts because they got worn (One does not casually turn a Nordstrom or a Brooks Bros. shirt into dusters) and I like that they gave me an excuse not to wear a tie. Posted by: N. Lurker at March 07, 2023 09:53 PM (eGTCV) Tying ties is a wifely duty I never learned. John (late, first) Husband knew how, maybe he'd learned in scouts, and we just got Son clip-ons when he was little and needed one. Posted by: Polliwog the 'Ette at March 07, 2023 10:01 PM (nC+QA) 289

Nice.... I used to have a collection of money from whatever country I visited. Just small bills... but as a US Navy Retiree? it was a lot of countries. 'Disappeared' about the time I kicked the Ex wife out, but did not realize it was gone for a couple of years... Posted by: Romeo13 at March 07, 2023 10:02 PM (oHd/0) 290
My suggestion for you all, if you need a sports jacket, go to Goodwill or St. Vinnies thrift shops. It will take a while, but you will find one you like that fits you. Also a tailor shop will modify a suit jacket that almost fits you to fit you like it was made for you far cheaper than buying one at Men's Wearhouse
It sounds cold, but really, dead men only need one suit, and the rest go for knockdown prices. Posted by: Kindltot at March 07, 2023 10:06 PM (xhaym) 291
They take full grown cats and she was a tiny little puppy at the time and they could have taken her in a second. I would stand out there with a flashlight until she would come back in the house.
The Owl would have appreciated you illuminating the target, had it seen your puppy. I've noticed Owls perch on top of streetlamps to do do their hunting. Posted by: Common Tater at March 07, 2023 10:09 PM (vt1Qg) 292
273 Piper same here. I should have been a young lady in the 40's. I love the fashion of that era. I also love that time in America.
Posted by: jewells45 fuck cancer Maybe we can build on Nurse’s cruise idea and do a theme night where we wear something from an era that speaks to us! Or we can talk about it a lot! 🤣 Posted by: Piper at March 07, 2023 10:14 PM (ZdaMQ) 293
I am making $90 an hour working from home. i was greatly surprised at the same time as my neighbour advised me she changed into averaging $100 however I see the way it works now. I experience mass freedom now that I'm my non-public boss.
