The dual mandate is not possible since the aim to keep inflation minimum is not compatible with encouraging economic growth while the only tool they have to keep the economy expanding is creating business cycles by printing money.
In the end we will have run-away inflation and the collapse of the business cycle when the currency is inflated beyond what anyone will accept. Posted by: Kindltot at March 03, 2023 09:43 PM (xhaym) 132

Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at March 03, 2023 09:45 PM (zZu0s) The history of hyperinflation is usually to revalue the currency or establish a new one, and then because that just changes the number of zeroes required to buy a loaf of bread and does not address the issues that caused the problem, hyperinflation goes into overdrive again. Brazil has been doing this for near on fifty years. The only way off is to adopt a hard currency that the central bank or government can inflate at will. It also requires the end of fractional reserve in banking to make sure the banks can't inflate by loaning out on the gold in reserve more than once. This means the end of a lot of the fancy financing we have now, but it also eliminates most of the business cycles and the defaults caused by manipulation of the currency and inflation. NaCly, doing pretty well.
In the short term, the Biden Energy Debacle is good for people with existing oil and gas production - including Putin, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. In the longer term, WEF level idiots may drive all of the hydrocarbon production AND revenues out of the Western world and to evil regimes. I can't tell if they are stupid and that is an unintended consequence, or if they are evil and trying to empower those regimes. It is probably most likely that it is possible to grift money off of corrupt regimes whereas you can't grift off of honest companies/people.
