Willowed: Just wondering how the festivities are going. Everything feels muted this year.
Posted by: squid at February 22, 2023 *** A float caught fire in one of the Monday evening parades; that was exciting. See, I grew up in the middle of it all -- the parades used to go by within 1/2 block of my house. So I've seen -- well, not all of it, but enough to be sated. It's fine when you can walk to a parade. Not so much if you have to battle traffic to get near it, hunt up a parking space, and then battle traffic on the way home. The question at hand is whether actively recommending and promoting such content has the same protection as merely failing to remove it. The tenor of the questioning from the justices - and not just the liberal whack jobs - suggests that the court is disinclined to strike down the law.
As they should be. The court has no business striking down laws because they're ill-conceived, stupid, or even dangerous. They should only be striking down laws that are unconstitutional, and this one clearly is not. Posted by: Ace's liver at February 22, 2023 04:08 AM (wGeit) 12

The idea that Section 230 might have exceptions isn’t new, but it is controversial. In 2018, a bill known as FOSTA created a carve out to Section 230 that was ostensibly designed to reduce sex trafficking but has since faced criticism for making sex work more dangerous.

There is a digital footprint created every single time someone accesses those records. What’s really incredible is that many of these schools are rated “commendable” by the Illinois State Board of Education. That’s the 2nd-highest of four “accountability” ratings a school can receive.
Not a single one of the 113 students at Sandoval Sr High School can read or do math at grade level. And yet the school is “commendable.” Same with Ralph Ellison Chicago International Charter School. Over $24,000 spent on each of its 172 students. Labeled “commendable.” And none of the students are proficient in either reading or math. fo tha chillrens Posted by: rhennigantx at February 22, 2023 07:09 AM (BRHaw) 140

Sununu said, “The race for president hasn’t really started. No one’s really thinking that way. Remember, we’re just coming out of November of ’22. And, you and I are in this world talking about it all the time, but the average American, they’re dealing with inflation, they’re dealing with high housing prices, record debt at the household level.” He continued, “And look, my message to, about President Trump is we thank you for your service. About that server without a password. I've seen it before. Back in the dark ages around 1990, Silicon Graphics sold its machines with a huge back door. The daemon that ran the printers in IRIX (the old SGI operating systems) was called lp. The computers shipped with the lp account having root privileges and no password. If you wanted to log in as root, all you had to do was log in as "lp." At one point there were hundreds of completely open machines, many in the military-- who had a big interest in high end graphics.

171 Let's not waste time arguing about who was masking who. What is important is that we are all safe. And vaxxed. Get your vax. Seriously, get it. Now. Or there will be consequences.
