I don't know where this is, but Aetius thinks it's Wadi Rum, Jordan.

Wadi Rum Protected Area is famous for its stunning desert landscape, spectacular sandstone mountains, desert valleys, canyons, dunes, arches. It is also known as The Valley of the Moon. Wadi Rum has been used as a filming location in 'Dune' (2021), 'Lawrence of Arabia', 'Prometheus', 'The Martian' and many other movies.

I'll be putting up a Stupid SOTU thread later. It's at 9pm Eastern. I don't know how much of Professor Incontinence McDumpypants I can watch.

Mexico's post-disaster rescue dogs are deploying to Turkey and Syria. Here are two little girls trapped under the rubble in Syria -- don't worry, they were rescued. And here's a two-month-old baby being rescued.

Bloodhound steals an egg and tries to hatch it.

Googley-eyed amoeba. (Not really.)

The dismount!

This is some kind of diving.

Poor little dog got caught in an elevator's doors as the car went up the shaft. Don't worry, he's okay!

Akshually eggs have never been cheaper: An interpretation through the art of synchronized dance.

Stoat (some kind of weasel) enjoys a trampoline.

Truck stops a fleeing vehicle.

This rabbit executes a sick escape.

Be very selective when you choose a Best Man. Prioritize reliability and physical coordination.

1) Biden has reduced the budget deficit by $1.4 trillion.
2) Biden inherited an economy in freefall.
3) Inflation was high when Biden entered office.
4) Biden has brought down gas prices.
5) Biden is doing all he can to secure the border.
6) Biden is increasing domestic oil and gas production.

Whatever you say about Trump, he goes to the source and doesn't attack via surrogates.

The Dem primaries are also rigged. It's pathetic how conservative pundits and Republican politicians keep saying that Joe is toast for 2024 because polls continually show 60+ percent of Democrats don't want Joe to run again or be POTUS again.

The string-pullers behind the Democrat National Committee don't care if a majority of Democrats want Joe to take a hike in 2024. They control the primary and nomination process. They'll install whomever they want as the 2024 D nominee, knowing that their base and the voters who prefer Democrats out of habit will vote for that person in November.

McCain was attacked by a bunch of posters in South Carolina with his kids including the adopted one by the GWB campaign (although no one stepped forward to take credit for it). Trump is getting some heat from rando popups on Twitter or other places about Epstein and past comments designed to make religious folks recoil from him. Same reason that Stormy made a reappearance in NY DA's office.

Ace, politics ain't bean bag and I learned during the 80's on the Dem side (nominating Clinton sickened me so much that I crossed the aisle) and can smell an oppo hit. Whether Koch, the other billionaires, etc., or the DeSantis superpac/entourage the initial hit is done by randos, amplified by a few on twitter and designed to get a rise out of Trump. You can blame Trump for being played but as I said, he goes for the throat.

I don't always agree and don't particularly enjoy CT and Sundance but the guy/guys does his research and focuses on the entourage and background probably better than most bloggers do.

That is what in the end destroys fraud machines or we end up in a direct authoritarian state. From the origins of mass participation during the 1840's up to the 1900's, we had rampant voter fraud throughout the nation in rural and urban districts.

Eventually voter registration, Australian ballot (designed to prevent paying voters for filling out their ballot), time and place restrictions, and so on were passed in state after state until the 1940's or so. Since then, we have been steadily regressing on voter fraud rather than progressing.

BTW, the GOP engages in fraud and primary rigging itself but does so on the down low.

238 So apparently people are bitching about ticket prices again, and in particular the example of noted communist sympathizer Bruce Springsteen's tendency to charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars came up. I'm a "charge what the market will bear" guy so for the most part I don't care, but I do want to make a comment about boomer rock jocks whining that all the concerts are super expensive.

Yeah, sure, the boomer rock icons are hugely expensive due to decades of somewhat justified GOATly marketing hype, but there's plenty of modern rock acts that have a following of their own that are affordable. Just checking industry archvillain Ticketmaster for local stuff, I see a Silversun Pickups show later in the month. Kind of niche, but they get radio airplay and they've put out a bunch of albums so it's not some bar band. 27 bucks. Shinedown and Three Days Grace are both huge acts that sell out stadiums, and they'll both be at Huntsville in April. Around 50 bucks for decent seats.

Point being, even as much as I don't like the music industry I don't think it's fair to blame them all just because 70 year old fans pay hundreds to see 70 year old bands.

Ace,
The GOP attacks through surrogates--that is since Reagan posted the hypocritical 11th Amendment in the 1980 runup. He was fine attacking Ford in the 76 race.

Sundance did stellar work on putting it all together on the Trump impeachment hoaxes and Russia Russia scandal--in part building on others work, and in part his/her/its own. He also, by and far, had the best coverage up to the trial of the George Zimmerman about the Trayvon shooting.

He supports Trump wholeheartedly as I suppose you don't like him. Personally, I could vote for either of them but unless cheating is dealt with prior to 2024, I doubt either can win.

So, we will agree to disagree and sorry for harshing your mellow.

It is fascinating. Right now I think that destroying votes is a red line. It is done. But not as part of the larger operation. Idk why. I suspect it may be because it gives SCOTUS a hook to get involved and kinda forces them too.

There are actual demographic limits to total vote. And the rube goldberg coalition they have to manufacture makes it very complex.

He clearly didn't take the tussle in the 2016 primaries personally (though frankly most candidates did) nor did he take the 2016 general election personally. Trump is not bad on abortion and not he did not do everything Fauci said. Trump was the first president to actually attend the March For Life and pro-lifers loved him for it. Trump shut down travel to and from China when Fauci said it was the wrong thing to do. Just one example.

This worked with Fauci thing is stupid. Fauci was the head of the NIH, a bureaucrat protected by civil service laws and Trump could not get rid of him and nobody knew until it was too late just how corrupt he was. I think Trump is like Patton, he will attack, attack but similar to Patton in the Lorraine campaign, that does not always work very well.

He is what he is and not what I hope him to be. DeSantis is who he is and is probably one of the most disciplined and buttoned down candidate and campaign operation on the right. He reminds me of Nixon in that way. I think the major differences between him and Trump though on policy are foreign policy and military intervention along with trade perhaps. Immigration remains to be seen.

But, lets be clear here. GOP and their campaign consultants/donors/etc view Trump as a threat and just like they sat on the hands during unfair impeachments with few reluctantly supporting him in public, they will do anything in their power to have him defeated.

I get that, and agree that Springsteen totally walked right into it. Doubly so in his case since he's spent so much time bloviating about his alleged status as the working man's hero. It was some other commentary by approaching-retirement-age morning show guys that touched off my reaction; they were making broad statements that don't correlate with the modern rock landscape. I heard it on the same day that I heard ads on a different local station advertising one-hit-wonder Trapt going acoustic for 18 bucks general admission, and it rubbed me the wrong way.

Huh. He'd get my vote without question if he did that. I can almost hear the speech now.

Although a few artists, can still bring it (saw George Thurgood a few years ago... he's old... and started out the concert weak, but seemed to get stronger as the concert progressed.... was weird...).

316 I get that, and agree that Springsteen totally walked right into it.

Tribute bands are a far better way to spend your money if you want to hear 80's music and usually far cheaper, less likely to get mugged in the urban parking lot, etc.

I went to concerts when I was young--not much interest anymore due to medical issues and hearing loss (unrelated to concerts btw).

But, I do like, now and again going to bars etc. with live music--just not so loud anymore.

Aside from the first 2 weeks, Trump did not do the lockdowns. Those were done at the state level. In fact, he spent most of his time urging governors and mayors to open their economies. You can't forget "The cure can't be worse than the cure.".

Of course he encourage the vaccines. He had the entire medical community both inside and outside of government telling the world the vaccines were safe and effective. It's absolutely revisionist history to pretend everyone knew when the vaccines were delivered, which was after the election, that they weren't effective and in some cases dangerous.

And he never advocated them for children and as you noted he never mandated them for anyone. There seems to be an awful to of revisionist history when it comes to those time other than when it comes to what DeSantis did in Florida. That's just ignored completely.

And he never advocated them for children and as you noted he never mandated them for anyone. There seems to be an awful to of revisionist history when it comes to those time other than when it comes to what DeSantis did in Florida. That's just ignored completely.

399 >>I was hesitant initially because:
1) Already had covid, I am stocked with anti-bodies.
2) an mRNA vaxx is not a vaccine the way they described it to me, but a therapeutic and I get a bit squirrelly when people want to fundamentally fuck with how my body functions.
3) I considered getting the J&J, but still begged off because I did not trust that any doctor would let me make the call myself like a vending machine.

All very understandable and I agree that the decision to take one or not became absurdly political instead of medical, particularly when it came to natural immunity.

But I blame Fauci and the corrupt Pharm industry and weak medical community for that. I never trusted Pharma but I lost a ton of respect for the medical community, the vast majority became cowards. I'm not sure how Trump is to blame for that.

Absolutely nobody at the time said the rapid development of vaccines was insane. Insane. The entire world cheered. It was one of the few issues Trump actually got bi-partisan props on. They were so popular that the drug companies waited until after the election to release them to prevent Trump from getting a pre-election bump.

The FDA, the CDC, the entire medical community not just in the US but around the world approved. If you think Trump could have stepped up in the middle of that worldwide panic against them then I think you are dreaming. He would have been impeached and ignored.
