105 The 108 gallon pressed paper tanks were made in Britain. They started to dissolve almost from the moment AV gas was put into them.

Their use denied the Germans a source of aluminum that the US made 75 gallon tanks provided. It also gave the Mustangs another 56 gallons of fuel.

Posted by: Anna Puma at February 07, 2023 10:20 PM (Uf9wt)

106 Zelensky got his tanks last month, so he's covered. But that decision went over like a PRC balloon, so let's not say much about almost-WW II, shall we?

There are now numerous videos of Ukrainians being press-ganged on the street and in their homes, and being conscripted into the army.

Even if you think that those videos are Russian propaganda, Ukraine just changed the age at which males have to register with the military authorities from 17 to 16.

Preparing to draft sixteen-year-olds is not an encouraging sign for Ukraine.

208 One of the things the F-4 is known for is those little sawtooths on the wings.

McDonnell-Douglas decided that their upgrade of the YF-17 was going to have them to. So the initial F/A-18s had them until everyone realized they were unneeded.

Then the LEX vent generated vortices were found to cause the twin tails to wag like a hyperactive chihuahua. So they added stiffener plates to the tails. And when that didn't fix things they filled in the vents.

Great design work McDonnell-Douglas.

Cobray purchased the rights to the design from the Military Armament Corporation and created its own smaller, lighter, cheaper version. Those who take shooting seriously consider the Cobray M11 “one of the most useless handguns in existence” and conclude that, “Everything about this gun just makes it hard to shoot accurately, so it’s much better to fire from the hip and keep your enemies guessing.”

Yasukuni Shrine museum (Tokyo)
Chiran kamikaze museum (outside Kagoshima)
Tachiarai museum (airbase outside Fukuoka)

Several more to hit, including the naval kamikaze museum (on base) at Kanoya, and the kaiten museum/base in Yamaguchi prefecture. Eta Jima (former naval academy) near Kure also very good.

So much easier to spew the Fauci lies (for example) and feel superior to all those that don't believe "Fauci IS Science".

It's that Mount Stupid (Dunning-Kruger effect) thang ... a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

But there are some that can wake up, that are just mildly lost in the maelstrom of lies. Bill Maher gives hints of some awareness, yet he ends his rant with "for years I tried to expose those ignorant conservatives for not believing in Climate Change, now I have the liberals going crazy".

No Bill you ignorant slut, you are also wrong on "climate change". He is still in his cult, but he sees problems.

271 This contempt for the laity helps explain why vaccine skepticism is growing on the political right. Some of this skepticism is misguided. In the early months of the pandemic, thousands were dying daily from Covid. There was a political imperative to roll out vaccines as soon as it became clear they could prevent severe illness

When they introduced them they claimed you couldn't get COVID if you just took the original double tap. And that was the nominal basis for every clot shot mandate - that with the shot you couldn't spread it, without the shot you would.

And we know that was not just wrong but an intentional lie.

Now the claim is it "prevents severe COVID". The data says THE OPPOSITE.

It is an iron hulled monitor with a single turret, screw driven and one of the most advanced battleships of its time, and sports a ram.
Iron hulled ship tactics had not quite gelled by that time.

What is really sad is there are almost no English language sites with good pictures of it.

298 18-1, actually "we'll win anyway" doesn't at all imply "the whole of Ukraine", territorially speaking. Not their objective, clearly never was. Whether the true top goal - Ukrainian military non-alignment - can ever be attained, doubtful. Even if conceded in settlement, easily violated commitment over time.

Two eastern oblasts, obviously - biting off those two more in the south, which were never subject to Russian rhetoric, claims, or diplomatic efforts prior to 2/24/22 - that seemed like an expansion of territorial goals to me, and a puzzling mistaken one, but whatever.

Fun fact: in the years of the "Minsk process", Moscow maintained that Donetsk and Lugansk were and would remain Ukrainian territory, that was there position. There's a popular/nationalist/tribal imperative to protecting Russian-speakers perceived as victims of persecution, there's always been a lot of leadership ambivalence about formal annexation. Until a year ago.

301 What Biden is doing to the practice of medicine.
Shift in prices, shift in credentials, shift in pay.
Watch your doctor go away.

We now have PA's (physician assistants) , APN's (nurse practitioners), primary Dr.s, and specialists. PA's can diagnose and prescribe under the authority of a Dr.. APN's can do same, even write class II scripts, but in many cases or states it is not necessary for them to work under the authority of a Dr.

What's the shift?

Primary physicians will disappear, being replaced by APN's and the PA's will move up the pecking order behind the APN's. Why? Money.

Socialized Medicine Lite. Primary Physicians have a broad range of study and a focused (mine specialized in hypertension and related chemistry, fancy that) field of study. Along with that they have liability, and operating costs; APN's and PA's won't have that nor will they have the wealth of knowledge a primary physician has. If they are good they will have the basics down pat. - narrow and focused -
cont.

302 cont

APN's and PA's worked hard to attain that position but they are not GP's. - They also don't earn a GP's money. And that's the nut, bend to ObamaCare and cut payiouts from Prudential, that's where our first line of professional health care is going. Doc 'n the Box

311 18-1, ever since the authorities started to claim "prevents severe illness" (when was this, last year? very odd in any case, as a clear "back-up" benefit claim vs. true, sterilizing vaccine), I've been wondering how in the wide wide world of sports such an assertion could even be backed up by data.

How do you get good, clean samples for control groups for this? Previous infection history would be unknowable, since most infections are asymptomatic and anti-body evidence is temporary. So I've never understood how the comparison leading to such an inference could even be done.

Of course I haven't checked with the useful independent sources on such things, but I looked around a bit a few times - nothing on it at all.

372 So far, I've only got so far as listening to the mystery click.
U.S. Military Anthems —As these anthems hit me, one after another, I think I felt what they call my heart swell. Misty-eyed. I never served in the military, but the respect for the American military was anchored deep.

These anthems hark back to a bold past, to the heart of the previous century, which is when I was born and raised, every morning swearing allegiance to the republic for which it stands, and knowing what every word meant even when very young. A sacred oath.

Nice pick, MisHum, for this absurd day. Thanks.

Played the video and MiladyJo, listening in the kitchen, said, "That was nice." She is from that same past as I.

There was a built-in kerosene heater, 3-burner propane stove, furniture included, western-style toilet, about 3 kitchen cabinets and zero counter space. My father's 3rd doctor in the last 7 years has retired this month.

I was at a doctor myself this afternoon. I noticed one of his nurses, young thing in her '30s, looked liked she aged 10 years in the last couple of months since I last saw her.

It was shocking.

Original rheum dr's (2 of them) are gone, so he saw a 'traveling temporary' dr for initial visit a couple weeks ago. They had scraped only one of the old drs' names off the window, then.

Today he saw a different temporary dr. No names on the window now. This dr said-- "follow up in 6 months, but I probably won't be here then"

She regularly reminds me if I'm late on a blood test or annual. She believes me when I tell her my situation. She is straightforward in discussing my weaknesses and abilities. She is not tied to any HMO or other garbage limitations. She has never asked if I "feel safe at home" or any other garbage questions.

She is also not too near retirement, even though I am. We shall see.

Close enough, really.

Farmed salmon has astaxanthin added to the diet so that the fish develop their characteristic color.

Astaxanthin derived from algae can sell for up to $1 million per kilo.

I have just run across the most obfuscated, convoluted, overly complicated thing I've ever encountered. I've been playing around with writing some programs to tell me what time it is. All the times.

As with most such things, the basic idea is simple, it's just the details, edge cases, and user interface that makes it complex. And so the question "what happens" if DST changes while the program is running? It should note that and handle it gracefully.

Well, I though the Windows API time zone was a convoluted mess. Now I'm looking at how Linux handles it: The Olson TZ database, zoneinfo.

That is the most complicated, convoluted, crazy stupid complex thing I've ever seen.

I couldn't see the gun sights, it was blurry, so I stuck on a set of readers. I then could see the sights fine, but then the target was blurry so i couldn't see where I was aiming. My long vision is fine, close vision not so much. I'm thinking maybe there is a prescription that will just make everything good. I really wasn't sure how to ask for something like that without saying why I wanted it. After that mask thing I was like no frigging way am i asking for that.

Near as I can figure, "long Covid" is basically bullshit made up by Kovid Karens. Long term "sequelae" of viral illness has always been a thing. Some small fraction of people will have long term problems after recovering from a viral illness. This happens no more or less with Covid than any other one, looks like.

"Long Covid" is just an excuse for more hysteria, and also a convenient bin to hide jab injuries.
