32 I've heard this info from other sources, but it's laid out nicely in one thread here:

https://bit.ly/3DueqSy

We're in Ukraine because we took over the Soviet era bioweapons labs there and started up research that's illegal in the US. Obama helped create an environment in which private US biolab companies could work in tandem with the bioweapons labs there. Then in 2014 there was a civil war and the US got involved in regime change, picking/creating a regime that was friendly to their goals.

Trump sniffed around a little bit over there and they impeached him to slam the door on his investigation. Zelensky blackmailed Biden by offering to destroy Metabiotica and Battelle documents for a price.

Putin's real goal in Ukraine is multi-fold. In part it was a reaction to Ukrainian movement toward joining the UN. In part it was to find and exploit the biolabs. In part it was pure expansionism. In part it was to grab a largely ethnically Russian population.

Russians claim dug up a bunch of the lab notes and deployment notes they claim show the bioweapons were being tested on soldiers, prisoners and the ethnically Russian population. In releasing information about the records they claim that the archives were buried instead of shredded and burnt, indicating they were part of a last minute attempt to hide or destroy them.

All of the gain of function research was outlawed in the US and outsourced to labs around the world. Pretty shady stuff. But I think they convinced themselves they were doing the patriotic thing.

It probably also required taking down governments that were friendly to Putin, Ukraine for example, to allow the research to continue. Once you start doing criminal acts like that what's a little graft amongst thieves?

95 > Putin's real goal in Ukraine is multi-fold. In part it was a reaction to Ukrainian movement toward joining the UN. In part it was to find and exploit the biolabs. In part it was pure expansionism. In part it was to grab a largely ethnically Russian population.
Posted by: bonhomme
______________

This is all incorrect.

It was, and is all about laundering money. Period. Thinking our political betters have some grand geopolitical scheme is silly. They're as dumb as a post.

The Biolab story has been examined in depth and while probably part of the equation, not significant in anything other than grift. The so called political rationalizations for this shit are really about who gets their cut of the pie.

People tend to over analyze things and gloss over the most basic of motivations... greed.

Putin's motivations are in line with this. The land grab he thought he'd get away with little effort is obviously a shit show, but he, and Z-man do not give a shit about a largely ethnically Russian population.

99 All of the gain of function research was outlawed in the US and outsourced to labs around the world. Pretty shady stuff. But I think they convinced themselves they were doing the patriotic thing.

It probably also required taking down governments that were friendly to Putin, Ukraine for example, to allow the research to continue. Once you start doing criminal acts like that what's a little graft amongst thieves?

Dumb people make dumb plans. They might seem incredibly stupid to us but that doesn't mean they seem that way to them.

It has been the foreign policy goal of numerous successive administrations to move NATO eastward toward Russia for decades. Take a look at the original map of NATO and where it is today despite the fact we pledged to Russia repeatedly that we would not do this.

Bush hinted that both Georgia and Ukraine would be candidates for admission into NATO. Putin attacked and captured territory in Georgia that still is autonomous. Then Obama ran a coup in Ukraine and Putin took Crimea. Trump did nothing and nothing happened. Then Biden hinted that Ukraine would get a NATO nod and Putin invaded.

Putin isn't stupid and the facts are the facts. Putin might be a murderous thug but he didn't act for no reason and we don't have clean hands. Money was just a bonus.

Sometimes the tumblers get stuck and need a little extra lubrication. WD-40 is a good temporary fix, but I think graphite lubricant is the preferred long-term solution.

The lubrication idea isn't a bad one if there are any cracks it could seep by and in. Mechanical stuff is funny sometimes, and sometimes stuff just jams or gets out of alignment just right (or you absentmindedly use the other key that sort of fits but doesn't work because it's not the right key but it can get jammed up inside because it doesn't really fit - I did that once).

The most important part is to not force anything. Good luck.

It's very hard to determine the problem without inspecting, or asking 20 questions.

You don't mention, but sounds like a deadbolt? If so, suspect that if key won't turn all the way, that latch mechanism is jammed. If key turns but nothing happens, then tailpiece isn't engaging. If key won't go in or out when in correct position to do so, then broken top spring or wedged pin.

It's just hard to say... like said above: don't force anything. Probably repairable and worst $ outlay will be for the service call

We had blond and red head people with green and blue blues here in wee NZ , way down south, for thousands of years before the 3rd wave Maori colonisers arrived in 1300 AD. The Maori oral history (the only one they have) is full of "Fairy people " some small and some giants ie 7 to 8 foot tall people. The myth of Maori being indigenous to NZ is slowly being exposed and the troughers hate it and are suppressing a lot of archeological evidence.

As a shareholder in the company... yea it was awesome. A fairly long run on the airframe, generally speaking.

The 747 along with the F-16 and F-15 are more examples of how everything but electric stuff and computer things have stalled. 50 year production runs on high end aircraft? That's unprecedented, like if we were building P-40s for the USAF til the 90s. My theory is that all the money goes into computer stuff because the biggest big shots share a dream of not having to put up with the peasants any more and see computers as the way to work it.

Pretty much, Mikeski. There was a waterslide that was an enclosed tube which included a vertical loop. No one thought about how one might extract a patron that did not make it through the loop. Didn't take long until much thought was required in a very short amount of time.

There's a reason why the place was affectionately called "Class Action Park"..

I spent an afternoon riding the Alpine Slide as an early teen in Durango, CO. I never wiped out though I met a couple of riders who had. By the time I left, I was able to navigate the entire track sans brakes by shifting my weight. Good times.

299 Wife and I were talking about generators one time, and lo and behold: a shit-ton of ads about generators shows up on my home page.

We have been seeing that for at least five years. In the presence of a turned on device we will casually discuss how someone we know bought something that neither of us have any interest in so didn't look up and about two or three days later ads for it will pop up. However I can actually look something up, buy one, and about a week later I will get a bunch of ads for the product when it is something you would only buy once in a while. Fits in with the rest of the semi-dysfunctional totalitarian society we seem to be morphing into.

303 Go Carts....

Back when I was in Jr High School my buddy and I went in on a motorcycle engined contraption. Some sort of Honda 2-stroke on a tube chassis, wickedly fast, and dangerous as hell in the neighborhood. It was meant for a track.

I fell off it while riding on the back, straddling the motor and got dragged for about 100 feet. Talk about road rash.

Sold it to some other kid in the 'hood who killed himself on it. Ran under a school bus. Doing 50MPH. Took his head off.

Yet... I still push those limits. It's a sickness.
