Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Overnight Open Thread (2/4/23)A politician dies So a politician dies and ends up standing in front of the pearly gates. Saint Peter looks at him for a second, flicks through his book, and finds his name. "So, you're a politician..." "Well, yes, is that a problem?" "Oh no, no problem. But we've recently adopted a new system for people in your line of work, and unfortunately you will have to spend a day in Hell. After that however, you're free to choose where you want to spend eternity!" "Wait, I have to spend a day in Hell??" says the politician. "Them's the rules" Says St Peter, clicks his fingers, and WOOMPH, the guy dissapears... And awakes, curled up with his hands over his eyes, knowing he's in Hell. Cautiously, he listens for the screams, sniffs the air for brimstone, and finds... Nothing. Just the smell of, is that fabric softener? And cut grass, this can't be right? "Open your eyes!" says a voice. "C'mon, wakey wakey, we've only got 24 hours!". Nervously, he uncovers his eyes, looks around, and sees he's in a hotel room. A nice one too. Wait, this is a penthouse suite... And there's a smiling man in a suit, holding a martini. "Who are you??" The politician asks. "Well, I'm Satan!" says the man, handing him the drink and helping him to his feet. "Welcome to Hell!" "Wait, this is Hell? But... Where's all the pain and suffering?" he asks. Satan throws him a wink. "Oh, we've been a bit mis-represented over the years, it's a long story. Anyway, this is your room! The minibar is of course free, as is the room service, there's extra towels next to the hot-tub, and if you need anything, just call reception. But enough of this! It's a beautiful day, and if you'd care to look outside..." Slightly stunned by the opulent surroundings, the man wanders over to the floor-to-ceiling windows through which the sun is glowing, looks far down, and sees a group of people cheering and waving at him from a golf course. "It's one of 5 pro-level courses on site, and there's another 6 just a few minutes drive out past the beach and harbour!" says Satan, answering his unasked question. So they head down in the lift, walk out through the glittering lobby where everyone waves and welcomes the man, as Satan signs autographs and cherrily talks shop with the laughing staff. And as he walks out, he sees the group on the golf course are made up of every one of his old friends, people he's admired for years but never met or worked with, and people whose work he's admired but died long before his career started. And out of the middle of this group walks his wife, with a massive smile and the body she had when she was 20, who throws her arms around him and plants a delicate kiss on his cheek. Everyone cheers and applauds, and as they slap him on the back and trade jokes, his worst enemy arrives, as a 2 foot tall goblin-esque caddy. He spends the day in the bright sunshine on the course, having the time of his life laughing at jokes and carrying important discussions, putting the world to rights with his friends while holding his delighted wife next to him as she gazes lovingly at him. Later, they return to the hotel for dinner and have an enormous meal, perfectly cooked, which descends into a food-fight when someone accidentally throws a bread roll at the next table (where Ghandi is having a game of truth-or-dare with Marylin Monroe). As everyone is falling about laughing and flinging breadsticks at each other, his wife whispers in his ear... And they return to their penthouse suite, and spend the rest of the night making love like they did on their honeymoon. After 6 hours of intense passion, the man falls deep into the 100% Egyptian cotton pillows, and falls into a deep and happy sleep... And is woken up by St Peter. "So, that was Hell. Wasn't what you were expecting, I bet?" "No sir!" says the man. "So then" says St Peter "you can make your choice. It's Hell, which you saw, or Heaven, which has choral singing, talking to God, white robes, and so on". "Well... I know this sounds strange, but on balance, I think I'd prefer Hell" says the politician. "Not a problem, we totally understand! Enjoy!" Says St Peter, and clicks his fingers again. The man wakes up in total darkness, the stench of ammonia filling the air and distant screams the only noise. As he adjusts, he can see the only light is from belches of flame far away, illuminating the ragged remains of people being tortured or burning in a sulphurous ocean. A sudden bolt of lightning reveals Satan next to him, wearing the same suit as before and grinning, holding a soldering iron in one hand and a coil of razor-wire in the other. "What's this??" He cries. "Where's the hotel?? Where's my wife??? Where's the minibar, the golf-courses, the pool, the restaurant, the free drinks and the sunshine???" "Ah", says Satan. "You see, yesterday, we were campaigning. But today, you voted..." (H/T CBD) The Fabulous says this is not "the perfect Valentine's Day gift." Most of you are probably familiar with that world-renowned saying that claims that money can’t buy happiness, but is that actually the case? According to a piece from LendingTree, an online loan marketplace for various financial borrowing needs, including auto loans, small business loans, personal loans, credit cards, and more, 33% of Americans say money makes them happier than love does. A decent percentage, isn’t it? It all varies from person to person, of course – however, one thing we know for sure is that money does make us happier, but only up to a certain point. You know, before you go mad like a fair bunch of those A-list celebrities. Nevertheless, every single one of us has thought about having all the cash in the world, and a Redditor that goes by the name u/GrouchyResolution974 has given us the opportunity to lurk into other people’s dreams. And if you had the money, would you get a better haircut? I love my mullet. As five-year-old Billy Brady said on The Late Late Toy Show, it’s “business at the front, party at the back”. I recently had my hair cut into the style, and just like Marmite or cheese-and-onion chocolate, it’s proving contentious. “You’ve got a touch of Rudi Völler,” one colleague said to me, referring to the German World Cup winner. Herr Völler sported an impressive curly mullet in his heyday. “Or a footballer from Shoot! magazine circa 1984,” another colleague said. Funny joke. I thought it was going to be a long version of one I heard years ago. A politician dies, and goes to heaven. St peter is giving him a tour of the place and along the way they see ted kennedy in a nice room with beautiful chick and a keg of booze. They wander around seeing some of the sights and they get to another room. Its nothing special, kinda bland, white, and pretty bare. St peter says, uh WTF, I was a pretty honest politician as far as politicians go, and we just passed that frigging bastard kennedy in a palatial room with a hot chick and a big barrel of booze and you stick me in this bland POS. WTF??? St peter says hey don't get all envious of kennedy, the barrel got a hole in it and the chick don't.

The resurrection of the unjust results in judgement, then the second death. The fire and brimstone message is too much fear mongering, as I see it. ... carry on .. ha. Posted by: illiniwek at February 04, 2023 10:20 PM (Cus5s) 84

Thinking about it, death is absurd. Something happens to us, in a moment or just after our bodies wear out, and...we are gone? Christianity, and most other religions, have an answer to this but I can't imagine, literally can't imagine, how atheists deal with this. All those thoughts, memories, experiences - lost forever. A Chinese intelligence official and a Pentagon official are sitting at a bar in Washington D.C. watching footage of a spy balloon. The chyron comes up and says the military destroyed the balloon with a missile strike. The Chinese official breaks out laughing, walks over to a man sitting in a booth and collects an Evelin full of cash, who also breaks out in uproarious laughter. The Chinese man buys the bar around. The Pentagon official asks the bartender "Why is he so happy, we just shot their balloon?" Bartender says "He bet that guy $10,000 he could get America to use a $1 million missile to pop a balloon." "Why is that guy laughing? He lost $10,000?", the Pentagon official asks. "He owns Raytheon." Posted by: Bitter Clinger at February 04, 2023 10:30 PM (Zqeqr) 133

The images have some of the weirdness that tags such things as AI (a single center tooth rather than a pair, and some oddities with fingers), but without those being pointed out, I have to admit my brain was stuck at "oh, hot chick."
Those were 'new', but they speculated it wouldn't be but a matter of months before literally everyone has a nude on the internet (the discussion was limited to politicians with campaign viability the focus), but there's no way to be sure if they're real (as the oddities could be turned off at some point). They also suggested shortly after that onlyfans was going out of business, since by choice of prompts the user could get exactly what he's looking for without browsing or monthly fees. Satan says you'll love Mondays. Satan asks do you like drinking great alcohol all day ? Lol says yes. Satan says you'll love Tuesdays. Satan asks do you live doing really great drugs? Pol says yes. I'm old enough to remember back in the Trump administration how the media went on for days about a Russian spy plane cruising over America,
Never mentioned that it was a part of one of the nuclear arms reduction treaties, "Trust but verify" from the '80's. We of course, have the same rights over Russia. Just south of Moses Lake, WA are a couple of old Titan II silo fields. The blast doors have to remain open at all times so it can be verified that they aren't being used anymore. ...And it occurs to me, based on another stream I saw earlier in the week, where a content creator admitted he was already using chatGPT for first drafts and expects within a year or two that he won't need to film or edit any more, just feed the AI his old videos and a script and it will spit out a video, that basically all porn for pay is going out of business, since you'll be able to do that by prompt as well.

Kind of surprised they didn't make him give it to Ukraine though That would be the retired French one from 1960 or so Brazil bought. I don't think Brazil ever got it running for more than a couple months at a time and decided to scrap it because it would be cheaper to build a new one and they don't have the money for that either. Probably sinking it in the ocean because with the new environmental laws its crazy expensive to scrap older military ships as they contain "hazardous substances" that must be disposed of at great cost far exceeding the scrap value. The preservation of naval ships made of steel is fascinating actually. Steel sitting in water rusts, obviously. The old wooden ships would last much longer without much maintenance. With steel ships, every 20-30 years you have to haul them into dry dock and replace plating. The Constitution may well outlast all the WW2 ships as that is a very expensive undertaking for a museum to fund. We lost the last WW2 light fleet carriers from the USN and RN and one of the remaining Des Moines heavy cruisers circa 2000 after 60 years due to this issue..Also.a.Fletcher class destroyer recently. Sad.

Good points. I think I was skeptical a bit earlier. When we couldn't call it the Wuhan Flu was the beginning for me. Racism? Oh ferfucksake. The second was those short tik-tok/twitter videos from China (starting late 2019) of people passing out in the street, being taken away for not wearing a mask, etc. I started to smell a psy-op rat at that point. Then the politics of medications took over ('horse dewormer') and I knew it was a set-up. To what end, exactly, I still don't know. The O'Keefe PV story is HUGE, even if unreported by his media 'betters'. (We all know how the Corp. Media laugh and sneer at O'Keefe.) The doc drama queen's reaction on the second video is just too panic-stricken perfect once he realizes what is on the 'trying to impress a date' video. Then trying to stop a random SUV in the street. Pure 'I fucked up big-time' panic. The immediate wiping of him from the 'net was something to behold. Psy-op big time. Just to see how compliant we now are. And, boy howdy, are we compliant -- to a fault. Posted by: RickZ at February 04, 2023 11:12 PM (emlEe) 221

Weird, one doesn't think of NV as a grain-based spirit state, but a few years back I had a great corn liquor made by The Depot brewery/distillery in Reno ("made with 100% Nevada corn", which I found funny). But then there was that time we returned from Reno via state highways in the western part of the state (crossed back into CA at Bishop). Beautiful farmland under cultivation. Another heavenly-surprise joke:
A pope dies and goes to heaven, because he was a good man and a good pope, and St. Peter drives him to his eternal home in a solid-gold Lincoln Continental driven by an angel chauffeur. Along the way he asks about all the gold-plated mansions they pass, and St. Peter tells him who lives in each one: Mother Teresa, St. Michael, St. Francis (small, but with every kind of animal wandering around the grounds, without any cages because all animals are tame in heaven), and so on. But the grandest one of all, a castle with hundreds of rooms, is occupied by Joe Schmo, a lawyer from Chicago. When they get to the dead pope's new home, it's very nice, but just a two-story house. The pope can't help asking "Hey, I was the pope, God's highest representative on earth. Why does a lawyer from Chicago I've never heard of get such an amazingly fancy palace?" And St. Peter says "Well, we got hundreds of popes up here . . ." (I'm absolutely certain you can all finish the joke yourselves.) Posted by: Dr. Weevil at February 05, 2023 12:23 AM (yj0/u) 293

In trying to remember back to the start of the panic a few things stood out to me at the time 1) No one I knew was dying. And the people getting sick were old and had serious health issues already - and yet the media keeps telling me this is one of the most deadly diseases of all time 2) When it started to leak out that COVID came from the Wuhan lab the powers that be shut down all investigation of the topic and pretended how the disease started was of literally no importance. And with these two data points I decided to wait and see on how "safe and effective" the clot shot actually was. Posted by: 18-1 at February 04, 2023 10:51 PM (lc5cP) And then, for me, the videos being smuggled out of China reporting a bazillion deaths and burials there gave me pause for ... a couple of days until sensible people responded that these sources were, um, dubious. I was considering getting the cl0tsh0t. Probably would've if I hadn't been on fmla/personal leave for so long, to care for hubby. Company was paying an incentive ($140, iirc) to get it. Big whoop, right? I wondered why a greedy corporation would spread any cash for it.
Also, there was the rollout itself... figured if it was so terribly important, I wouldn't want to 'jump the line' and prevent more needy persons from getting it. And then they... Just. Kept. Pushing. Mandates. And pushing. Threatening. Made me angry and suspicious. HELL NO! Posted by: JQ at February 05, 2023 01:46 AM (o0Fxd) 345
