Low IQ.jpg

Thoughts? I did see a clip of a thug who had been arrested for attacking random people on the street. In court, the judge was asking him “How would you feel if someone had run up behind you and bashed you over the head (his crimes)” and he genuinely couldn't seem to understand. He kept saying “But nobody did bash me on the head”. At the time I thought it was a lack of empathy or maybe he was some kind of sociopath, but maybe it was just low IQ? I dunno, what do y'all think?

Boudica had the same problem. She got so wrapped up in killing every single Roman and their allies that she got bogged down. I'm sure it *felt* great to massacre enemy civilians, but it made her fight into a lost cause.
I've often wondered if female generals would all have this problem, or if the fact she was avenging her daughters caused her to lose focus by being too close to the situation.

I don't think it's a female issue at all. Missing the forest for the trees is a common problem, one I think we all have a tendency towards.
I'd compare it a little bit to the people who talk about going out in a blaze of glory against an army of corrupt feds. Sounds cathartic, but in the grand scheme of things you've maybe knocked out a pawn or two, at much higher cost to yourself. You have to think about what your victory conditions are before you act.

Possibly because of training and education, but it's a pretty unusual thing for generals to get bogged down in. Now the looting and celebrating, that can slow an army down and be hard to manage

Carlo Cipolla wrote up a pamphlet on this, The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity

“All human beings are included in four fundamental categories: the naive, the intelligent, the evil and the stupid […] The intelligent person knows that he’s intelligent. The evil one is aware to be evil. The naive is painfully imbued with the sense of his own candor. Unlike all these characters, the stupid doesn’t know to be stupid. This contributes to give greater strength, incidence and effectiveness to his devastating action. The stupid is not inhibited by self-consciousness”,

Seems like you've misunderstood what objective morality means. It means moral beliefs that are not hinged on personal preference. Non-artificial.

That doesn't imply the moral beliefs say the proper response in all situations is violence. They can, but they don't have to and often don't.

There are Christian parables about dealing with sin, it doesn't involve killing everybody who does wrong. There are also Christian parables about dealing with those who have different beliefs.

302 Cicero that's Pavlov's House, and a fuller telling of the story (surprise!) revealed he was just one commander at one point, there were others equally or more responsible for the place holding out. I think it's one of the war relics still standing. One of the only places in Russia where war tourism is doable, as most of the big actions took place in open country or forests - and most sites are still barely explored or "developed" in that sense.

I bet it wouldn't be hard to find and join up with some of the crazy russkis who have taken things into their own hands to go exploring battlefields. Would stand back when they start digging up/tossing around ordnance, though.

Itty bitty Luftwaffe missile battery with 10 U.S. nukes in the Westerwald. Spent most of my time guarding and repairing said same. When I wasn't doing that, I was either sleeping or transporting crypto and control orders for same. Saw a shit ton of Europe under arms (w/ammo, which seems to be out of norm for most during the cold war) so was never tempted to travel on the rare day off when Smash's schedule of duty aligned with mine. For a married couple with joint domicile (which is BS of the smelliest order btw), we may have spent a conjugal night together once every 60 days or so.

But in any case, depending on the timing, you can get some fresh "battlefield" tourism in at Kursk (just UAV strikes), and definitely Kharkov! Something to consider.

In college, when they had a blood drive, we took it as an opportunity for a cheap drunk. First, we'd bet on whose bag dropped first. Regular bloodwork prescribed by your doctor provides information about the iron in your blood ... And, yes, body organs can be damaged when there's too much iron in your system ... People are allowed to donate blood every 56 days but, if that's not often enough to keep the iron count at a safe level, it can be managed through chelation ... FYI, when people donate blood, the Red Cross personnel will tell you what your hemaglobin count is on that particular day ... People who donate regularly, therefore, are able to self-diagnose.

485 Rant coming...
Just got a Credit Card offer from US Bank. Most people never read the back, but I did.
Interest rate. 20.5%. Twenty point five fuckin percent.
And a cash advance? 30.4%. My credit score is about 15 points under the maximum. Who knows how badly they're hosing some poor bastard with a 480.
We're into Vinnie and Guido territory here. People look up to Bankers. Cream of society. Greedy fuckin bloodsuckers.
If the age of the bank robbers returns, they'll be folk heroes again.

In vacuum, cooling is a big problem. The only way to shed heat is by radiation, there is no conduction or convection going on.

This was a problem for astronauts in space suits, especially for EVAs, like Apollo astronauts walking on the Moon. Without some cooling system, they would've burned up inside in short order.

They solved with an ingenious "sublimator". They wore a liquid cooling garment on the inside, which circulated water to pull heat from the body. That was run through a "sublimator plate", which was a porous plate that allowed some water to flow to the outside. It would then evaporate in vacuum quickly, pulling heat out. Temp would get low enough to freeze, making an ice layer on the outside of the plate. The ice would then sublimate.

It was ingenious design that was self-regulating.

In Kenya in the 60s, if one were 16 or over the reward was a beer and chips or cookies, after the vampires were done. During that refreshment time one had an opportunity to faint, etc., under supervision.
