Can I come in?

Got that sack o' snakes you ordered, Chief. Sign here please.

This is the other way sugar skulls are made.

Instant mask!!!

Sliiiiding into Humpday.

Dude just go around, stop being a spaz.

Eighteen people, presumably illegal aliens, packed into a subcompact car.

Paint color: Titanium cat.

Yiffing.

This girl makes me think of the many possibilities I could use her for... like cleaning the garage.

I could do this but I don't have the ceilings for it now:

1. Cats are living engines of chaos and destruction.

2. If a cat realizes that you are using its capacity for chaos and destruction to create order and harmony, it will immediately change its behavior.

I thought those were the names of Odin's magical chickens.

I don't know where that is. Mr. Asprin Factory says it's the Cathedral of the Holy and Undivided Trinity in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. Runner says it's the Duomo in Milan.

I still don't know.

51 Hmmm, something of a quandary. I really liked the first and second Dead Space. One of the best atmospheric games ever and the right kind of balance between the horror and threat and actually being able to do something (I HATE the Outlast/Alien Isolation/Amnesia style games.)

But they evidently have made all the women... rough. Now, on the one hand, that in of itself does not mean anything and would not affect the other game elements. However their willingness to do this small thing speaks to... other changes.

I dunno, how else could you make Dead Space woke?

Someone posted the link a couple of weeks ago, but apparently the people programming the AI are often programing "The Algorithm (tm)" to only provide the socially correct answers to questions and conversations.

IIRC someone posted interactions dealing with Global Warming / fossil fuels and COVID and The Algorithm decided it would answer the questions a particular way even though citations and references were provided to it in whatever way it was supposed to interact and respond appropriately. IIRC it essentially ignored it because it was wrongthink.

I think the weakness in AI is that it is a language based system that defines "most common" as correct. So it strives to be mediocre and sometimes reaches that level, but can never be brilliant.

With art AI it is a bit different since you can have it create the unexpected very easily. That is often wrong, but art is allowed to be wrong (like the crust on the wrong side of the pizza, or too many fingers on hand) without being intolerable. We want prose to be correct, interesting, insightful, informative, and have some style. AI will struggle with all of these. IMHO. Instead it will be used as crap copy for clicks.

I have no idea what the right thing to do is any longer because nothing is real.

I don't think it's a horrible idea to have a few hundred dollars in "junk" silver like old dimes and such. If things get bad enough that we're worrying about trading gold and silver then we'll be trading salt and shirts and everything of actual value, too.

The crazy part is to realize that middle and upper middle class people are changing their habits to try and keep their heads above water in ways similar to Great Depression actions. Folks are making decisions to not use as many eggs, or to freeze them, or letting their kids have the bacon and eggs and they just eat toast because they can't afford to eat the same breakfasts they were eating when Trump was president.

And it's just going to keep getting worse. They're intentionally doing these things to wash out the middle class' wealth.

Yeah, out of the shell. I have done it in the past and scrambled them and poured them in ice cube molds. You have to be sure they're fully thawed when you get ready to use them, though. If they're still a little frozen in the middle they cook exactly like you'd imagine.

Posted by: Did you realize you might own a Class III short barrel rifle now? at January 24, 2023 09:28 PM (ia0+L)

211 The Golden retriever and the pickle video reminds me of a story.

I was fortunate enough to go away to high school. It was the 80's, and the Chinese students there (I was told) were some of the first in the US in forever.

One of the students relayed a story about a mother who was eating dinner with her family and bit down on a piece of meat. She immediately took it from her mouth and put it in her child's mouth. It was that rare.

This is what we have in store, folks.

Posted by: 496 at January 24, 2023 09:30 PM (ELYbr)

220 Gold and Silver work as hedges against inflation. But they generally suck as currency. Junk Silver (as mentioned) being the exception.

AMMO is a great "currency" if the dollar collapses. Be it in a ziploc bag you're trading 20 rounds for a day's food, or in a magazine with one in the pipe, getting that food by other means. (or just defending house, home and loved ones. Same thing, kinda) Still, I'd rather barter my construction and repair skills, and keep my ammo!

Any meaningful value of precious metals is best left as untouched as possible, till a market or economy stabilizes. And until the fed quits creating trillons with a mouse click, and until Crypto falls like the empty house of cards that it is, that stability is going to take a while. It's OK to buy "metals", but then "forget about them" either until things settle, or until necessity requires you to part with as little as possible to get by.

Posted by: Nightwatch

Because cancer is a generic trash can term describing the hypermetabolic reproduction of any cell line in the body. Essentially any type of cell in the body can be subject to cancer. Since some of them are quite similar they are lumped together but even so they're well over a hundred types of quote cancer unquote that commonly occur in humans... There will never be a single cure for cancer and it is never around the corner despite listening to what sponge brain shit pants has to say.

Some types of cancer are considered fully curable and even more can be driven into remission for indefinite periods of time.

The new immune modulator therapies are so utterly different from old near death by chemo that they really can't even be compared. I swore as recently as seven or eight years ago I would never ever take chemo and radiation therapy but the new stuff qualifies as an honest miracle.

Sadly, far too many group types of cancer still remain uncurable and in some cases untreatable.

If things go south bank-wise the standard playbook first move is either restricting the amount of money that can be withdrawn, or a "haircut" through taking percentages off every one's accounts.
You might consider stashing some cash to get you through a couple of months plus an emergency fund.
You are hosed if there is hyper inflation, but you are hosed if it is in the bank, too.
