Top Story

  • Storaxa is a NAS/router/WiFi access point/VM host/media server/thingy. (Liliputing)

It has five 3.5" drive bays and four M.2 slots for storage, plus another M.2 slot for the boot device. Four 2.5Gb Ethernet ports, WiFi 6E, four 10Gb USB ports (plus another two USB 2.0), and HDMI and DisplayPort for video out. It runs Proxmox VE to provide virtual servers, and TrueNAS and OpenWRT - which is exactly what I'd use if I were doing this myself.

CPU in the base model ($399) is an Intel Atom N6005, but for about $80 more you can upgrade to a Ryzen 5800U which provides dramatically faster, well, everything basically.

All in a neat little box - 7x8x10".

What's the catch? First, it doesn't actually exist yet, it's a Kickstarter project. Second, like most interesting and reasonably priced devices, it's made by a small Chinese company you've never heard of.

Hololive-Related Thingy of the Day

Holocure 0.5 is due out February 10, bringing with it new maps, new music, and all of JP Gen 1 and Gen 2 as playable characters. I was a bit confused why there were only nine new characters shown, but then remembered that Fubuki was included with Hololive Gamers in the 0.4 update, and she was a Gen 1 member before she created Gamers with Mio, Korone, and Okayu.

The game is mostly notable because it's loaded with little nods to Hololive fans - like the fact that you can pet Amelia Watson's real-life dog Bubba - but it's free and it's more fun than a lot of the stuff that sells for $70 plus day one DLC.

I played a lot of Holocure last year when I was travelling all the time and didn't have a computer at hand that could even handle Minecraft competently. Don't regret it.

9 Evening and morning to Mr. & Mrs. AosHQ and all the satellites in space! Flash! Let's go to . . . well, we no longer have a real "press" in this country, do we?

Up earlier than I intended; not the cats' fault for once. It's 51 F. and not raining, but they tell us we may get some frog-strangler rain later today.

I wound up going with (don't hate me) Progressive, aka Flo's Bros, for my car insurance. A saving of some $400 for 6 months over the Lizard People and quite a bit over anybody else I got quotes for. And a quick back-of-the-envelope estimate of my Fed taxes indicates that I may have to pay a LOT less than I'd thought a month ago. (Maybe. I'm letting H & R Block handle it for the first time.) Thus I feel as though I've saved a lot of dough in one day.

All of which will go for food for me and the felines.

When my BMW 3 Series was totaled in a flood in 2019, they handled everything quickly and paid me a fair price for the little gold beast. I came out whole and had money to make the down payment on the Buick. I only jumped ship to the Lizard People because Prog. raised their rates on me. Seems I have to leapfrog back and forth every year or two. (I seem to be in a reptile-amphibian theme here.)

18 Sitting in a reclining chair at Rebecca's bedside. We have been keeping her on a steady schedule of pain meds since this afternoon. Will continue to do that until she goes back for her procedure.

A colleague of her original surgeon is going to attempt a closed reduction under anesthesia - that should relieve her immediate pain.

Then, it's "wait and see" if she will keep a hip abductor appliance on long enough for her hip to heal in position. If not, they will have to go back in and try something different (they do have a plan, but I am too wiped out to explain it right now).

She is in good hands. And she is in His hands.

Once upon a time these companies were comprised of incredibly talented people and then they got fat. Twitter is a prime example - that Musk could nuke most of the staff and replace it with a handful of topflight software engineers says a lot. Another problem with 'bottom of the station's tank' is: impurities. Also, immediately after they've gotten refilled-- churns up the sludge. I will pass on refueling if the tanker truck is just finishing up; wait a couple hours or go somewhere else.

Until 2016, the Democrats loved Russians. They behaved like swooning schoolgirls over the Soviets during much of the Cold War. We all remember how dismissive of Mitt Romney’s assertion that Russia was a threat to the United States His High Holiness the Lightbringer Barack H. Obama was in 2012.
