FBI Discovers Six More Documents At Biden's Home in a "Consensual" Search;
Now Considering Searching His Beach House and Other Homes

The raid on Trump's house wasn't "consensual."

So they got Biden's permission to search his house. But note that when you give the cops permission to search your house, it's a special kind of consent. You're consenting because if you refuse, they could very well get a court order and make a spectacle.

They didn't offer Trump that deal. They didn't call Trump and say, "We want to search your house and seize your documents. We'd like your permission, otherwise, the next step might be a search warrant and a raid."

No, they just went with the raid.

Biden gets the Mother-May-I kid gloves.

I think the FBI only got involved because the special prosecutor -- not Biden's wingman Merrick Garland -- felt embarrassed that he was letting Biden's defense attorneys collect the evidence against him and realized That's Not How Prosecutions Work. So he called Biden to get his permission for an FBI search, and they found six more classified documents.

Biden's been hoarding one of these purloined documents since he was a Senator.

Biden's been very clear: He takes classified information very, very seriously.

FBI is weighing up 'whether to seek searches' of Biden's other homes after DOJ finds six MORE classified documents at his Wilmington house: House Oversight Committee promises to probe President's finances in 'next phase' of its investigation

President Biden was in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware while his Wilmington-area property was being searched by Justice Department officials

They recovered six files, a number of which has classified markings, per lawyer

Meanwhile House Republicans are expanding their probe into the Biden family by examining both his finances and his handling of classified records

...

Meanwhile, Republicans are knives out for the president amid the growing scandal.

House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. James Comer said his investigation into the Biden family was moving into its 'next phase,' which reportedly involves both the classified documents and the president's finances - along with those of his son Hunter Biden.

'We'll be looking at bank statements. We'll be looking at bank violations,' Comer told the Washington Examiner.

'That's the next phase of our investigation because we're trying to figure out who these anonymous sources are that are sending so much money to the Biden family schemes - the Biden Center for Diplomacy and Hunter Biden's artwork.'

Investigating the Biden family and its finances has been a top priority for Comer and House Republicans ever since clinching the chamber majority late last year.

...

The latest discovery reportedly brings the total number of classified files found to between 25 and 30.

It's not immediately clear how many of the six documents revealed on Saturday were top secret in nature.

But the documents found Saturday range from Biden's three-decade tenure in the Senate and his time as Barack Obama's vice president.

...

DOJ requested that the search not be made public in advance, in accordance with its standard procedures, and we agreed to cooperate,' the statement read.

Maximum protection for Biden's privacy -- they didn't think of that when they raided Trump's house with police lights conspicuously flashing.

And they're not leaking out pictures of Biden's classified documents arrayed on the floor in a spray. Why not?

...

Donald Trump, the former president who is Biden's political arch rival, seized on the debacle to once again declare his own innocence.

'They created this Documents mess for themselves by being so totally DERANGED about me, and I did NOTHING WRONG!!!' Trump wrote on his social media app Truth Social.

...

[R]epublican critics of the Democratic president have called that into question after Saturday's discovery.

'AGAIN?!? How in the HELL do they keep screwing this up?? As Biden repeatedly says, "everyone knows how seriously I take classified documents." Yes. Yes we do,' Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz wrote on Twitter.

Anna Puma sent this link to This Ain't Hell. It seems that during the 1970s, a certain blowhard Senator voted against Ted Sorenson for CIA director, because he'd taken classified documents home with him.

And I think at the time the law was "ambiguous" about whether this was allowed. Now, it's not ambiguous -- you can only read these in a SCIF.

But Biden was taking classified documents home with him as a senator.

As a senator in the 1970s, Joe Biden tanked then-President Jimmy Carter's pick to lead the Central Intelligence Agency over the nominee's illegal possession of classified documents.

Carter chose Ted Sorenson to serve as his CIA director in 1977.

Sorenson had admitted to taking boxes of classified records home with him after leaving the White House in 1964, and using the materials for his work in writing a biography of former President John F. Kennedy. Sorenson's admission to this came in affidavits used in cases involving the Pentagon Papers.

At the time, Biden considered the affidavit and joined with Republicans to block Sorenson from being confirmed by the Senate. Biden also suggested Sorenson may have violated the Espionage Act.

Then-Sen. Joe Biden found a nominee's use of classified documents as something that should disqualify him from being nominated to lead the CIA.

During Sorenson's confirmation hearing, Biden said the "real issue" was "whether Mr. Sorensen intentionally took advantage of ambiguities in the law, or carelessly ignored the law."

"If he did so, can he now bring the activities of the intelligence community within the strict limits of the law?" Biden asked. "We will expect that in the future of intelligence agencies. If that is to be the case, then we must hold the Director -- DCI -- accountable as well."

22 To be honest, I see this a bit differently. I think that the raid on MaL was ordered by the WH, bypassing garland. That's why it took him four days to come out and give a statement. They needed garland to take the blame for the raid, because the WH had already claimed that Biden didn't know about it. Which either meant that was a lie, or that someone in the admin gave an order to the FBI using bidens authority.

The DOJ knew about bidens documents, and told the admin to turn them over. The lawyers were sent to find them becuase the WH wanted to keep this quiet, and the DOJ is getting more involved now because they know that the documents haven't all been turned over.

Did Biden sign these files out and never took them back? Either way they were stolen.

Docs can be kept in a safe, or a designated safe drawer in an otherwise normal appearing file cabinet. With a log for checking them out of the secure storage box.

What a SCIF allows one to do is just leave the file open on a desk when you go home for the night. The SCIF is the "safe" box, drawer, safe, etc. I think they need not be signed out unless taken out of the SCIFM

77 Two years is a long time in that job, and I would t be surprised if he also sees the writing on the wall. The Dems want Biden to step aside in 24, and so are going to ratchet up the pressure until they get it. Klain is getting out while he can. Alternatively, he may have been forced out by internal maneuvering.

No, they just went with the raid.“

In all fairness, panties were involved.

Posted by: 7man at January 23, 2023 02:34 PM (qwO6y)

80 Remember, just having the documents is a crime. Slo Joe's guilt is beyond doubt. What's being negotiated under the guise of an "investigation" is what the consequences are going to be.
If they let Slo Joe go, Trump will walk, because unlike Joe, he had the authority to have the documents. The documents were never hidden, and were kept under government approved security.
If they decide getting Trump is worth sacrificing Joe, they also expose alot of other Dems who played fast and loose with classified docs.
That's a door they don't want to open.
Everything else is smoke and mirrors to distract us from this.

Neither GOPe nor Dems want that can of worms opened. They will use procedural stuff without opening up the unjust and illegal corruption enrichment of Biden because they are all in on doing that too. 175 Remember, just having the documents is a crime.

317 I just saw the video of that North Carolina guy getting shot while exiting his trailer.

Holy shit, unless there's a SERIOUSLY FABULOUS explanation that I can't imagine, those officers need to be burned to the ground.

The guy is very slowly exiting with both his hands clearly raised and doesn't make any furtive movement at all. At least two seconds pass between the time he opens the door with his hands up and slowly exits and the shots are fired, so they can't claim he burst out of the door, surprising them.

Their story is fishy as hell too. Someone reports "shots fired" in the area, and SWAT comes out with the belief that this specific guy did the shooting and has a hostage? What information led them to that conclusion?

If you squint, you could easily imagine High Plains Drifter as a sequel to an alternate version of High Noon where Gary Cooper gets murdered instead of saves himself.

In both, the townspeople are meek, terrified of violence, and acquiesce to violent men easily. That pissed Wayne off in High Noon (and why he went off and made Rio Bravo with Howard Hawks a few years later), and it probably pissed him off in High Plains Drifter. It's obvious in Wayne's mind that the men of the Old West were more like his character in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

375 Apparently the guy had a robot the cops threw into his house in his left hand, though that's not entirely clear in the video.

Still, that's not a great reason to shoot. He didn't take a shooting stance, he didn't "point" the robot. Three officers enter the trailer later in a different video, and they've got plate carriers, helmets, and night vision goggles on. If they were out in the dark, behind cover, they were plenty safe and didn't need to immediately open fire.

Of course, I have no idea what the situation was outside. Maybe the terrain offered no cover and they weren't really in the dark. But I find that unlikely given I see the guys pulling up their nods as they enter the trailer.

There were 2 *novels* that I know of about Joe Leland: The Detective, turned into the film with Sinatra and Lee Remick; and Nothing Lasts Forever, the basis (and they followed the book pretty closely!) for Die Hard. The story goes that Sinatra's contract for the first film specified that he had to be offered any other roles derived from the character or property. Of course when DH came along, it was 20+ years later, FS was too old for it, and he knew it. So I think Frank only did one Leland role. Maybe you're thinking of his private eye films as Tony Rome?

A 1962 Die Hard film with Frank would have been fascinating.

386 Completely OT. Was looking up the story of Purdue men's basketball getting back to #1 in this week's rankings and found this funny in the middle of the article:

Alabama (17-2, 7-0 SEC) has made a steady climb since being ranked No. 20 in the preseason AP Top 25, moving into the top 10 in early December. The Crimson Tide had lopsided wins over Missouri and Vanderbilt after Darius Miles was dismissed from the team, as he faces a murder charge in a fatal shooting near campus.

Alabama coach Nate Oats reached out to Ray Lewis before the Crimson Tide played Vanderbilt last week, sharing a Bible verse suggested by the Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker.
Alabama ended up beating Vandy by 12 and rolled over Missouri by 21.

I guess Ray Lewis is now the go-to person for how to handle things when a sports figure is facing murder charges. Would be interesting to find out what Bible verse they used for their situation and what message they used it for.

Westerns for a very long time were cheaply produced. They were the bottom of the barrel when it came to how studios managed their productions, so a lot of talent started there.

They were consistently popular, too, which meant that spending $70,000 to produce one in 4 weeks while Ernst Lubitsch was using $600,000 to make his light romantic comedies in 10 weeks, the western very likely would make more money.

Well that was what the director and writer were doing but it did not come across at all in the movie. If you try really hard and know ahead of time you can kinda see it.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a deconstruction, its treating the heroic western figure (Wayne) as a self destructive loser, and the "civilized" city boy as the true hero who fixes the old west with Facts and Logic. I think you're misreading the movie pretty harshly. Wayne IS the hero. He's the one who kills Liberty Valance, who brings civilization to the Old West.

Jimmy Stewart gets all the credit, the bookish politician. He doesn't bring civilization to the West, Wayne does. Stewart just gets the credit.

It's a celebration of the forgotten yeoman, the everyman who actually did build the west but that biographers and newspapermen aren't interested in talking about when they can talk about the clean, politician from the East.

503 ace I think you're greatly under-stating the outrage in the Trump raid case, aren't you? The two sides were involved in lengthy negotiations over documents, the FBI had actually previously visited M a L and even suggested specific physical security steps, which were taken.

And I'm not even mentioning the game-stopping (AFAIK) point that a president is the ultimate declassification authority, and Trump (or any other prez) can (in this case did) declassify a document, period. So the only issue engaged are the two (or just one) of the laws governing official government documents.

And on a separate issue, since the Sorenson thing is part of the post, note that in the mid-90s, a CIA director taking his work laptop home was sufficient scandal to force his resignation. Different country, obviously.
