She is an intellectually dishonest Congresscritter. For years the GOP had a pro-life plank in their platform and raised money for politicians to get Roe vs. Wade overturned. Now we are to blame. Fuck you you stupid bint. Another reason to never give money to the RNC.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) blamed the overturning of Roe v. Wade for the Republican party’s lackluster midterm showing during a recent appearance on Meet the Press. “It’s the reason we didn’t get more of a majority. We could have had a two dozen seat majority, but we don’t. This was an issue top of mind for swing voters,” Mace told NBC’s Chuck Todd.
The South Carolina Republican went on to claim that the issue will continue to hurt the GOP in 2024. “When you’re looking ahead to ’24, going to the extremes and digging in there isn’t going to work for most people,” Mace said.

Losing your job sucks. No matter how it is done. And to be honest with you, I do not have a better idea when it comes to laying off 12,000 employees.

Jeremy Joslin, a 20-year Google engineer, said being laid off via email was a "slap in the face."

"It's as if I dropped off the grid and they have to piece together any knowledge I took," he added.

Other ex-Googlers have criticized the abrupt and impersonal nature of their terminations.

Lori Lightfoot Blames Prosecutor Kim Foxx for Chicago Crime: ‘Handing Out Certificates of Innocence Like Candy’

Chicago’s embattled Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot has blamed Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx for the city’s out-of-control crime rates.

Incumbent Lori Lightfoot currently finds herself in third place in the mayoral race, according to the polls.

The election is at the end of February and if no candidate gets 50% of the vote, the top two will face off in a runoff election that will be held on April 4, 2023.

This couple is trying to make a difference.

MINNEAPOLIS -- For almost 25 years, Bishop Larry Cook and his wife, Sharon, have been trying to make a positive impact on the North Minneapolis community from their church, Real Believers Faith Center.

"It's just been remarkable to be here and serve, to see lives changed. That's what we do," said Larry Cook.

But it hasn't been easy. The orange and yellow dots mark all the reports of shootings or shots fired in Minneapolis over the past year. The gas station next to their church is completely covered in colors.

"We just never would go over there. We wanted to but it was just too much going on over there. I didn't want to be solicited for drugs," said Sharon Cook.

It got to the point where the shootings started to impact the church, so Larry Cook confronted the drug dealers before a bible study.

"'If you want us to leave, you need to buy it. You don't own it,' It was just very, very contentious. So my husband just looked at them and said 'I will buy it,'" said Sharon Cook.

I wonder how long it will take the Cooks to realize that the odorous government rules and regs are just as bad as the thugs.

Doctors happily assist with suicide. Marijuana is legal. But now booze is a no-no. Canada, the Nanny State.

New alcohol guidelines recommending that Canadians limit themselves to just two drinks a week – and ideally cut alcohol altogether – have prompted intense debate over risk versus enjoyment in a country where the vast majority of adults regularly consume alcohol.

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) this week called for a substantial reduction in consumption, warning that seemingly moderate drinking poses a number of serious health risks, including cancer, heart disease and stroke.

The new guidelines, funded by Health Canada, represent a dramatic shift from previous recommendations issued in 2011, when Canadians were told that low-risk consumption meant no more than 10 drinks a week for women and 15 drinks a week for men.

The Department of Defense awarded a multi-year grant worth $3 million to EcoHealth Alliance – the company at the center of the Wuhan lab leak theory.

Starting on Dec. 12, 2022, and ending on Dec. 11, 2025, the Department of Defense will give $3 million in funding to EcoHealth Alliance, according to USA Spending – the official source for spending data for the U.S. government.

EcoHealth Alliance will utilize the multi-million-dollar grant to "reduce the threat of viral spillover from wildlife in the Philippines."

House crickets allowed as food in EU

Partially defatted and powdered house crickets will officially be able to find their way to EU citizens’ tables starting on January 24. This comes thanks to a European Commission ruling passed earlier this month.

As per the decision, which cited the scientific opinion of the European Food Safety Authority, the additive is safe to use in a whole range of products, including but not limited to cereal bars, biscuits, pizza, pasta-based products, and whey powder.

We will see if Arizona is red, purple or blue. Please pass the buttered popcorn.

Democratic Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego will run for Senate, he announced Monday, setting up a general election showdown with Independent Kyrsten Sinema.

Gallego, a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, blasted Sinema throughout the 117th Congress for her opposition to various left-wing priorities. He floated a primary challenge to the freshman senator, but she left the Democratic Party in December to ensure that she would automatically advance to the general election.

On this day: 23 Jan 1978
American musician and songwriter Terry Kath, best known as the original guitarist, and founding members of the rock band Chicago accidentally shot himself dead. After a party at roadie and band technician Don Johnson's home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, Kath picked up a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and, leaning back in a chair, said to Johnson, "Don't worry about it ... look, the clip is not even in it." To satisfy Johnson's concerns, Kath showed the empty magazine to Johnson. Kath then replaced the magazine in the gun, put the gun to his temple and pulled the trigger. Apparently unbeknownst to Kath, however, there was still one round in the chamber, and he died instantly from the gunshot via thisdayinmusic.com

She is in excellent hands, and she has a LOT of people praying for her. I have even called on her "personal" angels (her late sister, my sister, my Mom and Dad, and Paul's dad) to go to the "office" and make sure that The Big Guy upstairs is taking special care of her.

Most of the South is a rotten borough of the GOPe... at least in the Senate. Totally beholden to the McConnell machine, and the Barbour machine before that. Decades of cuck rot. I'd imagine there's a similar problem in the House.

Back in the '70s, pot was more of a "burning rope" kind of smell. Not altogether unpleasant, in small exposure when you'd catch a whiff from being downwind of such, on occassion.

Nowdays? The shit reeks of Skunk, with about the same reach and staying power.

I know the "new" pot is many times the potency of the vintage weed. But GEEZ, couldn't the botanists have done something about that gawdawful STANK?

257 The Google layoffs demonstrate why "capitalism" is worse than socialism. Because socialism locates at least some of the decision making where the power is. And by heavily controlling layoffs, they can add your job to the plates they are spinning.

So as long as the power remains committed to you thinking the people in charge are doing a good job, the costs only appear when a significant number of plates fall.

And then the power which controls the flow of information can find a proper scapegoat.

285 279 Another great oldie in the hidden song, MisHum.

I've always had a soft spot for The Pointer Sisters.

from the comments in the video:

"No twerking, no cursing, no autotune, no 100 backup dancers. Just pure, natural talent, charisma, and communication with the audience. It was all there for these wonderful ladies."

Couldn't say it any better, so I stole the comment, in fine Moron tradition.

286 The entire Democratic party 100% fervently believes that abortion should be lawful up to birth and any live baby born in the course of an abortion should be allowed to die.

Catholic democrats try to pretend that that isn't true. I can't figure out whether it is self delusion, or whether they are out and out lying when they say that abortion should be rare, safe, and legal.

287 "*Everyone* needs to be looking for ways to kill debt"

With this inflation, debt doesn't look so bad, because you are paying it back with deflated $. Plus a lot of bad debt is getting written off right now, if being a deadbeat is a palatable option for you. In finance classes, I was taught all the good ways and reasons to use debt; there are many.

I myself am terrified of debt and avoid it, but I recognize my fear is irrational.

318 Other ex-Googlers have criticized the abrupt and impersonal nature of their terminations.

Oh please. Welcome to adulthood.

When Ford laid us off in June 2008, we were notified by phone message on Thursday evening and told to not come in the next day.

Previous years, I saw others laid off when they were in office. They got a tap on the shoulder and then had security at their desk watching them as they gathered their personal belongings and packed a box, handed in their badge and then were walked out. Good friend I could hear her sobbing the entire time.

This has been happening for decades. Yes, it sucks. That's life. Suck it up, buttercup. Companies are not your friends or a church. You are an employee. When you no longer are a financial benefit to the company, you are gone.

They didn't have price tags on them. I would assume the owners wanted the Earth, Moon, and stars for them, or they wouldn't be at BJ. I looked at one really pretty 1947 CJ-2A Jeep, and it had an LS-something Corvette engine in it. A younger guy stepped up, and I remarked, "that wouldn't be my choice of engine for any serious off-roading", and he said, "I built this Jeep". I went on to say (and honestly) "well, that is a very nice installation; cannot find fault with it at all." His idea was a Jeep for short-course drag racing; me, I would want to go bashing about in the boonies. Horses for courses.

My late brother had a job where he had to lay people off. They called it downsizing. He did it in person, and on that morning before he went to work he would throw up. 3) Keep your finger off the trigger until you're on target (aka "keep your booger hook off the bang switch").
4) Know what your backstop is (IOW, where is that bullet going to go once it passes through the target?).

So now the insurance companies are noticing something they refer to as 'excess' deaths. Which seems to me to be something that fits on a Venn diagram very neatly with 'enhanced disease'.

518 513 Exactly. At the beginning of this vaccine talk, there was a chorus of protests from medicine/laboratory and other disciplines about why it was a dangerous idea. Unless you were one of the Covidians, there was a natural decision to wait and see. And eventually we saw.

There you go, Scott. If that's what you call winning. You were a Covidian, cowering at home and masking up. You COULD NOT SEE through the magician's trick. They hypnotized you.

522 I think one of the problems with this is that there are going to be a lot of people, all of a sudden looking for jobs in the same industry. I've known people who lost their jobs and found new ones relatively fast, but 12000 all at once?
Posted by: nerdygirl

12,000 is nothing. In the 1990s IBM laid off 60K, Sears-KMart nuked 50K and ATT let 40K go, then there 2000s when Citibank got rid of 50K, GM laid off 47K, Ford gave 40K a pink slip, and Boeing grounded 31K. A chunk of these tech layoffs are companies getting rid of underperforming employees in one sweep (dirty secret: tech companies prune out people all the time). The difference this time it is happening a workforce that is used to being treated like these jobs are an entitlement and are suddenly finding out they aren't special. The social media meltdowns have been epic. People used to deal with stuff - today they need to whine and bitch. It sucks for sure but this is how life goes.

The clue for me was that I never saw them push so... frigging... hard to make people get a vaccine that wasn't tested, especially since the survival rate for the bug was pretty damn high. The other clue was they were breaking the golden rule of pandemics, you never vaccinate during a pandemic. There was shit definitely wrong the way they handled things, and anybody with 2 brain cells to rub together and whose head wasn't in their fucking ass could see it plain as day.

527 That 20 year Google engineer(!) Is fortunate . He's quite young and can either get a new job, choose a lateral path in his field and so on. Better yet, he'd leave San Fransisco for less expensive cities. Forget Silicon Valley, it's cutting 10 000s of jobs everywhere. So I'd take a good look and move out.

Not to mention that his net worth is very likely in the multiple millions of dollars. Odds on he never has to work again if he doesn't want to. Tech jobs are good jobs. I know from experience but they also can be very volatile at times. What's going on in the tech industry is normal pruning and a response to a looming recession. I also suspect that what must did it. Twitter caught the attention of all these tax CEOs.

I recollect reading a long time ago, that in China of olden times, the practice was one paid the doctor when one was well and did not pay when sick. Hence doctor had an incentive to make one well. (don't know if this was true).

Seeing the push to do the thing, my Anti-Lemming instinct kicked in.

And I decided. I was not anti-vaccine. But I was anti-Guinea Pig, and I stuck by that decision. Seems to have served me well?
