Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | On The Eleventh Vote, The ONT Has Been Elected Speaker Of The HouseHello everyone! Welcome to Thursday's ONT. To enter, please prove you're human by completing the following Captcha. This Is Very Cool
Here is the full video I wish I has the skill, the patience, and the tools to do something like this. I had the chance to pick up an old popcorn cart last week. While I think it would be neat to have a popcorn cart, it would have required close to this level of restoration (plus wiring), and I just don't have it in me. Pity. The Several States Every US State depicted in a meme Did you know it's hot in Arizona? Flat in southern Illinois? Snowy in Minnesota? No? All that and much more on the next meme in the series! A Deep Dive Was the sexual revolution a government psy-op? Phew! There's a lot going on here, and it really doesn't lend itself to a facile discussion. Whatever meaning and political valence the no-fap movement has for its adepts, the journalistic Left’s ready identification of sexual self-regulation with “fascism” has a definite genealogy. Retracing this gives us a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of 20th-century social engineering, a programme of sexual “liberation” that is still with us and can feel, if not obligatory, certainly on the agenda for all who would be well-adjusted. Acquaintance with this history should disabuse us of the idea that the sexual revolution was an entirely organic eruption of cultural change, and that it happened in the Sixties. Sexual liberation was the goal of a therapeutic para-state whose organs sprang into existence almost overnight at the conclusion of the Second World War. Its political purpose was to forestall the possibility of fascism in the United States. It would be too simple to say the sexual revolution was a government psy-op, but neither has the role of government been adequately appreciated. With the spectre of fascism once again haunting the American political imagination, and attendant worries in some quarters about inadequate masturbation, this is an episode worth revisiting. Basically what they are saying here is that post WWII, the powers that be in the government (and by “the government” they mean the Marxist adherents of the Frankfort School) became concerned that traditional American values were “proto-fascist”; fascism arose in Germany in a society that had strong pro-family leanings, so traditional American family values were ripe to produce another “fascist” regime somewhere down the road, and so they must be subverted and destroyed. An American version of the New Soviet Man needed to be created. Typical Marxist bullshit, but it's been wildly successful. What I find ironic about the whole thing is that American government today is far more fascist (by definition, remember the term is used by most Marxists as a synonym for “bad” ) than anything a Marxist 75 years ago would recognize, and the heirs to their movement, the fascist left, are happily occupying and expanding the fascist power structure that exists today. I say ironic and not surprising because anyone who studies these movements from outside knows that there's not a frog's hair worth of difference between “socialist” “Marxist” “fascist” and “Communist”. The reason communists and fascists traditionally are at each other's throats is not because they oppose each other, but because they are competing for the same power base. They're essentially the same thing, fascism is Marxism wearing the mask of nationalism and communism is Marxism wearing the mask of internationalism. Interesting read if you're into that kind of thing. At Least There's No Mean Tweets Boy, those Bidens are a class act, aren't they? Hunter Biden’s Baby Mama Asks Court to Give Daughter His Last Name As far as I know there's no dispute that the girl is his, but the way the Biden family fights to keep from acknowledging her existence is vile. IOW, par for the course with them. ALL ABOARD! Gravy train Now Boarding At Platform 6! It pays not to work in Biden’s America — and here’s the proof What's that you say? You're still working hard? Follow. The. Money. How Gender Ideology Conquered South Dakota Sanford Health, the state's largest employeer, is making billions of dollars off of mutilating kids, and they are making damn sure that their gravy train doesn't stop anytime soon. The women’s-sports bill wasn’t the only social-conservative legislation that Sanford had lobbied against — and the sports complex wasn’t its only business interest implicated in transgender debates. The health-care company sells puberty blockers and performs “gender-reassignment” surgery. Its lobbyists appeared at the state legislature to oppose legislative initiatives including conscience rights for medical practitioners who object to performing abortions and sex-change operations, and a ban on puberty blockers and sex-reassignment surgery for children under 16. Both proposals ultimately failed to pass. “The bill to prevent doctors from giving hormone-blocking drugs to kids — when it failed, that was all Sanford,” John Mills, a Republican lawmaker representing South Dakota’s fourth house district, told NR. “You want to believe it’s not about the profit, but you also witness the reality of what’s happening on the ground and can’t help but wonder.”NR gives you 2 free articles per month. This is one of their accidental forays into actual journalism, so it's worth making this one of them. The Lighter Side Of The News New Year’s Eve fireworks cancelled because of masturbating walrus That's pretty much the story. Everyone was gathered by the shore to watch the fireworks, and a walrus crawled out of the ocean onto the beach and began to bop the bishop. The beauty of nature. Going to bed early tonight. Tomorrow is Epiphany, which is a Holy Day of Obligation and I'm thinking of going to early Mass. Strictly speaking, because January 6th falls on a Friday this year, the obligation is rolled over to Sunday by direction of the bishop; this would also hold if it fell on a Monday. I think the Freedom Caucus should capitalize on this opportunity.
They should do a promotional where a $20 donation puts you into a drawing to be nominated for Speaker OTH and they draw one name out for each voting session. I'd pay $20 for a chance to be nominated officially for Speaker. They could donate the proceeds to anyone that primaries Kevin McCarthy in 2024. If you make more than $750,000/year off this content, they want their cut. Or you get nuked. If you raise money through Kickstarter, they get 20%. Other services not Kickstarter, 25%. Watch the finale of the original justified and you tell me. The cinematic Raylan Givens is not the literary one anyway. The book Raylan is a much better rounded character, with a wider range of emotion who arrives at his "fuck it I am old school" attitude by a more circuitous route. I think his annual marathon press conference is due soon, if I haven't missed it already. It's quite interesting. Pretty wide open. You generally no longer see such things in the west, where "leadership" mostly has become small in character, intellect, and heft. Of course a recent president - whose coarse behavior rightly shocked the conscience of those who think the Oval Office is about style and not results - used to regularly engage the press in an anything-goes impromptu conference, sometimes more than once a day. But that was an exception and fixes have been implemented to ensure we are unlikely to see that again. Posted by: rhomboid at January 05, 2023 11:09 PM (OTzUX) 223

I was trying to post an article by Lucius Beebe on smoking but Pixie chokes on it
it starts: In the years of my youth, a period approximating Appomattox Court House, as it now seems, or at least ante-dating the Custer massacre, cigarettes were not a highly regarded article of commerce. Their use generally was restricted tot he lower orders of society, pimps, race track touts, Congressmen and the like, and certainly none were ever smoked in my father’s house by any member of the family, although now and then guests asked if they might be excused to go into the garden and smoke a cigar after dinner. Smoking in the presence of ladies was unthinkable and there was still a statute on the local Boston laws books against smoking pipes on the public street, pipes being associated with the Irish and not to be tolerated in the presence of gentlefolk. There is a another nice "parade of planets" window around now. Back in June or July, there was a window of several weeks where you could see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn all line up, in order, across the ecliptic. Well, in a band close to the ecliptic, in order. Now, they're not in order, Venus and Mercury, being on the Western side near sunset, but all the planets were visible. sven: "She begins chemo next week."
I've said this before but it bears repeating. Keep a close record on symptoms from the chemo. Chemo does lots of damage to healthy cells while its racing to kill cancer cells fastest. Let your doctors/oncologists know what you're going through when you see them. Tell your nurses, too, during treatment. They may need to tweak dosages depending on your wife's condition. There are defined protocols, but they are inexact. For me it was not recognizing balance issues (neuropathy was a documented side effect of my regimen) and I probably took on more abuse than was necessary. I simply didn't know what a reasonable versus unreasonable amount of peripheral nerve damage was. It was only when I couldn't button a shirt or hold a pen to sign my name that I said, "Eff this. I'm done," and terminated treatment. So note changes in body. Ask for the names of the drug cocktail and get the inserts (such as they exist) so you know what to look out for. I miss Rush too. Somewhere the other day, I saw that picture of him up in the Capitol balcony, Medal of Freedom draped around his neck, giving a thumbs up and yelling, "I feel great!" I wanted to cry, because that America seems gone. But we can't let it go, that's not what he would've wanted us to do.

You know.
After watching chemo kill my mother faster than cancer would have, I swore I'd never do it. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 46. I did what they recommended, surgery, chemo and radiation. I did it because my youngest was still in 8th grade and I wanted to see him graduate from high school. Now? I wouldn't do it. I'd like to meet my grandchildren some day, but I'm not going to do that again. Nope. Palliative care keeps you comfortable and happy for as long as you've got. Sometimes it's months, sometimes it's a lot longer. But I'm not doing that again. Posted by: nurse ratched, I wanna cookie, please. at January 06, 2023 12:09 AM (U2p+3) 297

I've vacillated. It's a tough call. If I had to go much further knowing the side effects would be worse, I don't think I'd do it again. As unpleasant as the actual treatment was, I could do that again. I could suffer a LOT of discomfort - much longer than I did - if I knew I'd be fine afterwards. It's the afterwards. I mean you think you're prepared for it and the doctors sort of warn you about it... but not really. It's more a perfunctory checkbox for litigation purposes. And, truthfully, they don't know how things will turn out. But you really can't prepare for what you don't know. And after it's done, it's too late. So, I guess, fuck cancer. THe general meaning is something like "assuming a future event has happened before it happened". So in that sense it means extrapolating forward. But for a calendar, thinking of some date in the past as the present, it means applying the future calendar to the present date. I can't take credit for that. They've pretty much fixed that, anyway. Even older 32-bit builds of Linux/*nixes have shifted to using 64-bit integers for the time, which will extend the range out something ridiculous -- never be a problem again. Only any older systems, mostly embedded probably that can't be updated will likely have a problem. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at January 06, 2023 02:34 AM (Mzdiz) 401

Carla's story is a sad one. Her father was Mister Rogers, the man who was all about The Neighborhood. Alas, he left her with mountains of debt and several households stuffed with a mishmosh of garbage and treasure. In one pile, she found an original Van Gogh sketch. It had been infested with silverfish, as were the old yellowed copies of the Providence Journal adjacent to it.
So she was forced to go through every bag, box, and shoe personally in search of anything of value. It cracked her brain, and now she haunts places of stellar wit (such as this very ONT) with posts that remind you of the fuzzy hard candies Grandma handed out from her pockets.
