New industries come from crazy people. (Palladium)

It's an interesting cultural point and the article discusses why so much innovation came from England and later the United States even when key scientific discoveries often happened in continental Europe.

I wonder how this played out more recently in Japan and Korea. Both countries are socially conservative and tend towards top-down structure, but both had massive social disruptions in the mid 20th century due to, uh, events.

And yes, the article mentions Elon Musk, though it's from 2021 so it doesn't cover any of the recent brouhahas.

This is for Intel's upcoming Sapphire Rapids workstation chips. It has 16 DIMM slots for 512GB of cheap desktop RAM or as much as 4TB of server RAM, four M.2 slots,two U.2 ports,8 SATA ports, six full-size PCIe x16 slots - five of them PCIe 5.0, 10Gb Ethernet, separate 1Gb Ethernet for remote management, 7.1 audio, a bunch of USB, VGA output, and a serial port.

It will likely cost as much as a good laptop, just for the motherboard.
TSMC's 3nm node is already achieving yields above 60%. (Tom's Hardware)

Samsung's 3nm process is more advanced - they've gone with a transistor design called Gate All Around, where TSMC stuck with the more traditional FinFET - but at last report they were only getting yields of 20%, so their costs will be much higher until they get that fixed.

Solidigm is the new brand name created after Hynix bought Intel's consumer SSD division, and yes. The P44 Pro reviewed here falls between Samsung's 980 Pro and 990 Pro in benchmarks, which makes it very fast indeed, and at $220 for 2TB it's not particularly expensive.

Yeah, not quite so flat here, but flatter than you'd expect right up until it turns vertical. They don't build so many towns on the vertical parts.

I have no patience for the burn 'em up, beat 'em up, blow 'em up "science" shows. They appear to be geared toward getting quick clicks from thrill junkies. They are beneath contempt -- their offerings low brow and their "experiments" are usually so wrong and often dangerous.

I keep them around mainly for winter time. When the indoor humidity gets so dry, they really help. Now they have one out that has some aloe in it to keep things not so dry. Works well.

86 I went to play cards noonish yesterday, and only one dealer. They were bringing everybody in for the evening New Year's Eve shift. Took a walk around, stuck $40 in a slot machine and hit for a few hundred and left, quickly. I don't have the New Years day hangover from yesteryear but the left hip and knee are acting up. Nothing a long hot shower won't cure. All day rain tomorrow, so I think I'll run a couple errands. Just about everything normally open on Sunday is open.

I saw a blurb about a couple of reporters who took a Rivian pickup camping. They charged the thing just outside whatever camping area they were going to so it had almost a full charge. They camped for 3 days and did not use the EV for anything. Just parked. Off. Not unreasonably cold either, so perhaps this was done last year in the fall or late summer.

When they got ready to leave it only had 38 percent of the 90+ percent when parked.

They made the uncomfortable comparison to a leaking fuel line or gas tank to the tune of a half gallon every couple of hours.

More and more of these revelations are popping up.

Pixy, you have been very coy about naming 'New Home City'. At first it seemed that it was because you were looking at houses in different places, so that made sense. But not so much now.
Clues are, the elevation is near, at or above 1000 metres, ( so no flooding from the rain), that you actually live well above 'downtown' (ref to having to climb 400 (feet or metres) to get to 'new home') and that you can/have to fly there from Sydney, takes an hour.
My guess comes down to Orange with Griffith as second choice to most closely meeting those constraints.
Any reason why you are still concealing the location?
Would love to know if I am on the right track. Curiousity only.

289 I use a neti pot before bed and sometimes after being around a bunch a people. I think it makes sense to flush it out then and especially during winters. My theory is the baddies get flushed out or destroyed by the salt before they can take hold and multiply
