The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"The Chinese will now have the ability to conduct passive, persistent surveillance of both signals controlling experimental drones that are routinely tested at that USAF facility as well as signals that are routinely beamed to and from sensitive U.S. military satellites," Brandon Weichert

Quote II

‘When I come out of this, I feel that I will be able to perform and be the Bill Cosby that my audience knows me to be,’ Bill Cosby.

I can hear Maxwell Smart, Missed it by that much!

A group of burglars were caught off guard — and on camera — in Alhambra, when they accidentally broke into a diaper cleaning business instead of the medical marijuana dispensary next door.

Security footage shows a car speeding into a security gate, knocking it off its hinges as a group of people storm through.

Now another problem with law enforcement has been exposed. Tracing the fallacy of 911 call analysis through the justice system, from Quantico to the courtroom.

Tracy Harpster, a deputy police chief from suburban Dayton, Ohio, was hunting for praise. He had a business to promote: a miracle method to determine when 911 callers are actually guilty of the crimes they are reporting. “I know what a guilty father, mother or boyfriend sounds like,” he once said.

Harpster tells police and prosecutors around the country that they can do the same. Such linguistic detection is possible, he claims, if you know how to analyze callers’ speech patterns — their tone of voice, their pauses, their word choice, even their grammar. Stripped of its context, a misplaced word as innocuous as “hi” or “please” or “somebody” can reveal a murderer on the phone.

So far, researchers who have tried to corroborate Harpster’s claims have failed. The experts most familiar with his work warn that it shouldn’t be used to lock people up.

Prosecutors know it’s junk science too. But that hasn’t stopped some from promoting his methods and even deploying 911 call analysis in court to win convictions.

In 2016, Missouri prosecutor Leah Askey wrote Harpster an effusive email, bluntly detailing how she skirted legal rules to exploit his methods against unwitting defendants.

“Of course this line of research is not ‘recognized’ as a science in our state,” Askey wrote, explaining that she had sidestepped hearings that would have been required to assess the method’s legitimacy. She said she disguised 911 call analysis in court by “getting creative … without calling it ‘science.’”

And just how many of you were seriously injured or killed> None. So you ate a chicken wienie. Lighten up Francis Asa.

A Hannukah event that took place at the Shlomo Group Arena last weekend in Tel Aviv featured a “vegan” hot dog stand that was, in fact, serving hot dogs made with from chicken.

The hot dog stand, which was marked as vegan with a sticker from Israel’s Vegan-Friendly Association, is part of Shlomo Group’s sponsorship agreement with the Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball team, which plays in the arena, and the company that operates the cafeterias.

Religious scholar and advocate for veganism Asa Keisar documented the incident on his Facebook page,

I bet they were the best tasting products sold at this event.

First world problems which started out in a Third World country.

Celebrity Big Brother star Jessica Alves has revealed she was rushed into surgery after her XXL bum implants were displaced.

The 39-year-old, who is no stranger to going under the knife, underwent cosmetic surgery just five weeks ago.

The operation took place in Istanbul, Turkey and saw Jessica have her bum implants increase from 625cc to 1050cc as well as a nose job.

As we approach the end of the year The ONT looks back at some of 2022 past events. What did we get stuck in our rectum this year.

What Did We Get Stuck In Our Rectums Last Year?

If you’ve ever put anything inside yourself and gotten it out again without needing medical attention: Congratulations! Things went way better for you than they did for so many other poor souls. This is a tribute to American ingenuity, American perseverance, and above all else, American recklessness.

All reports are taken from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s database of emergency room visits, all descriptions are verbatim, and always remember that a flared base is your best friend.

As always, objects are sorted by orifice, working south:

You may not believe this, but......... I do try to put myself in the other guys shoes. That said, if I were in my 20s or 30s, single and living in LA, I wouldn't ditch my car. But I wouldn't mind having an Ebike for a second ride.

I ditched my car and used the Aventon Level.2 e-bike as my sole mode of transportation in one of the most expansive, densely populated, and car-dependent cities in the United States.

As a relatively new Los Angeles transplant, I took on the challenge of riding every day for 2 weeks on the latest iteration of the commuter e-bike.

Along the way, I came to understand the appeal of e-bikes and learned how the right accessories can unlock missions well beyond just the office.

Get your motor runnin' legs stretched. Head out on the highway. Looking for adventure. In whatever comes our way. Born to be essential.

Most drivers looking to traverse a big city try to figure out the shortest and quickest route. In Paris, that’s going to get a lot trickier.

In two years’ time, the French capital will ban non-essential through-traffic from its city center. The plan, which is expected to eliminate around half of the daily car journeys through Paris’ core, has been a long-term objective for the city, part of its overall drive to slash the number of cars on the roads.

At the behest of the Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, Brazilian Xavante tribe chief, Tserere, aka Cacique Cerere, was remanded into custody without bail on Thursday after he was initially set to be incarcerated for 10 days. Tserere was arrested on December 12th for “evidence of the commission of anti-democratic criminal acts,” according to the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) or the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil.

Recalculate. Recalculate. God dammit recalculate. Genius Award Winner.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a 33-year-old woman for drunk driving after she allegedly drove onto the frozen downtown canal Sunday night and continued until she broke through the ice, plunging her car into the frigid water.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Biankia Larayne Gleason, had gone down an embankment to get on the canal and then drove north, according to a spokesperson with the Indianapolis Fire Department.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- An off-duty flight attendant who attempted to board a plane at San Diego International Airport with more than three pounds of fentanyl taped to her abdomen pleaded guilty this week to a federal drug possession charge.

Terese L. White, 41, of Dallas, admitted in a plea agreement to flying into San Diego from Dallas on Oct. 4 while off-duty, then trying to get onto another plane with drugs on her person, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said White tried to use the "Known Crew Member" queue to board, but was selected for the regular passenger screening process instead.

What did you do on your day off? One of two, Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

An EMT continued his heroic work into his day off, when during a ski trip he located a man buried by an avalanche, dug him out, and spent 8 hours by his side on the mountain waiting for search and rescue.

Wild amounts of Utah snowing last week left the slopes in Neffs Canyon ripe for an avalanche. Experienced backcountry skier Travis Haussener took it “one tiny step too far” by passing through a loose snow pack and triggering one.

The Grinch is defeated. The second of two: Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Police officers who responded to a home burglary went above and beyond their call of duty by replacing Christmas gifts that were stolen by a ‘true life Grinch’.

Cops on Christmas Eve went to the scene of a breaking and entering complaint at a home in South Bend, Indiana.

‘After talking to the homeowner, officers learned that Christmas gifts had been taken, leaving the children with nothing for the holidays,’ wrote the South Bend Police Department on Facebook.

60 For your daily dose of Schadenfreude:

Portland's been hit by an ice storm and two severe windstorms in the last few days, and the electric company is still making repairs - 100,000 customers were out, and that is now down to 15,000.

A very left-wing union carpenter who works for the city has had no power for several days, and has been told that he won't have power until the weekend. He's understandably upset.

However, the way he phrases his upset is amusing:

We live in Mt Tabor, in the middle of SEPDX (southeast Portland).

I live in the largest city in my state in 2023. Due respect I shouldn’t have to drop $5k on a backup generator. If I wanted that lifestyle I would live in a rural area.

Compare Clark County PUD (a neighboring county utility), which is publicly owned with PGE and PPL. Are they experiencing outages, yes, but the vast majority of their outages are in the rural parts of CC, where PGEs outages are concentrated in Portland, in the middle of an actual city.

I checked the outage map, and his problem is that his "outage cluster" is only 15 houses (almost certainly because a tree limb took out a power line).

The utility is still dealing with a couple of dozen "outage clusters" with 100+ customers, and oddly enough, the rule is that you work on the biggest outages first, because that gets more people back with power the quickest. This is why he has to wait until the big "outage clusters" are fixed.

No matter - He Lives In The City, so obviously his outage should be fixed first.

90 My latest musical adventure is rediscovering Koko Taylor who was known as "the Queen of Chicago blues." Her voice could shake a brick building into rubble which is pretty great. The album I found most enjoyable is Old School from 2007 recorded when she was 78 years old. If you are pressed for time, all you need do is listen to the opening two notes of the first track. A force of nature comes to mind from those two notes. Her voice is incredible form with a smoking hot band and technically the album is beautifully recorded.

The guy is dumb. The issue isn't whether you live in an urban area or rural. It is the number of trees. They take out power lines. I lived in a city, on a city block, that was a half mile from Lake Michigan. We had lots of giant oak trees in the neighborhood. We lost power sometimes. The best thing a city can do is to trim the trees near the lines, but in a city that can be a hell of a lot of tree trimming. And of course, the limbs just grow back, and soon have to be trimmed again.

Anyway, she sent some samples of peanut butter to a lab to analyze for Aflatoxin B1 and her column was rather interesting to read. But that's not the salient part of this comment. So I click on an entry about omega fatty acids and she says that chicken is not actually all that healthy a meat because it has too high an omega 6 to 3 ratio. Instead, eat grass-fed beef. Talk about a back-door slider. Not expecting that. (What she said is true.) Maybe some "I'm a mom" bloggers do know what they're talking about.

257 >> Romex 12/3 is 4 wires and extension cord 12/3 is three wires.

That's the difference between the cord and romex(NM-B) and similar cables. Technically, you call it 12/3 w/G, meaning 3 insulated conductors and one bare grounding conductor in the cable. Grounding requirements are such now you never see non-w/G romex any more. They may still make it, but you don't see it much.

Sxxxx and SJxxxx cable never have bare wires, and the grounding conductor will be green insulation.

So 12/3 w/G romex colors will be black, red, white, and bare ground. 12/3 SJxx cord will be black, white and green. 12/4 SJ cord would be black, red, white, and green.

264 Romex is solid wire, because it is installed and intended to be fixed in place, enduring no further movement, post-installation.

Marine Romex is a stranded, fully tinned wire inside it's insulation. It shouldn't move *much* more than household Romex, but all boats do flex, so the stranded and tinned Romex is ideal to both withstand that slight movement, as well as being the most corrrosion resistant material economically available for those purposes.

Extension Cord wire is stranded wire, but is not "tinned", for both economic and freedom of flexibility issues. Extension Cords have to be the most flexible wiring possible, as the route from outlet to tool often is impossibly complex for any less flexible cord. Plus, weight and bulk issues figure in.

I run the heaviest gauge extension cords I can find or afford. Safer, lower resistance, less heat, stronger in tension and cross section. Ain't cheap, but WORTH it!

269 if the shots are making immune systems "tolerate upper respiratory infections like allergies" that might explain the three viruses cruising around now.
It appears that viruses compete each season, probably by triggering off heightened immune response, and the first virus in the system sort of blocks the others by putting the patient's immune system on high alert. This would block the patient from being a vector for the subsequent infections.
If the shot makes the body tolerate viral infections instead of fighting them off, it means all the people infected with one virus can still be infected by subsequent ones that normally would be excluded, and will be a vector for those as well.

The logic fits, if you accept the premise

It's fitted with a 240 volt plug that fits the outlet in the garage, and has a quad box on the other end, with 2 120 volt outlets on each side of neutral, and also a single box with a 240 volt outlet for my air compressor. The same cord with six-inches of it's stranded wiring left exposed on the striking end would be a fearsome weapon, at least as effective as the Cat O' 9 Tails, and maybe more.

Each strand of copper would cut, slice and penetrate deeply. Three or four strikes such, and some du nuffin' is likely to bleed-out.

The white and black insulation on the main conductors is round and slick, and pretty normal-looking. Past that, #10 is good up to 60A, then #8 up to 100, and #6 up to 200A circuit size. Note this is not the same as the grounding electrode conductor, which is sized differently.

295 That would not be allowed now anywhere. Safety ground has to be the same size as the main conductors up to 10 AWG.

Past that, #10 is good up to 60A, then #8 up to 100, and #6 up to 200A circuit size. Note this is not the same as the grounding electrode conductor, which is sized differently.

I probably got rid of most of it, except maybe in a couple of lighting circuits within the mobile home portion of the house.

In any case, it's time for me to go to bed. Night, Horde.

The problem with the aluminum branch circuit wiring was several fold. First, aluminum oxides that form on the surface are much less forgiving that copper oxides. Then some of the terminals on the devices (receptacles and switches) weren't compatible with aluminum and would accelerate the corrosion.

And then, improper torque, too much or too little. All that adds to heat at the termination, and aluminum's melting point is much lower than copper.

Bob's your uncle, indeed.

I'm not sure it would be worth it, even sedated, given what's on the list already.

I think the winner is "CUBE-SHAPED TOY." You'd definitely make the Guinness Book if you could solve a Rubik's Cube internally.

There are a lot of legal Hispanic citizens who are fed up and turning Rep. esp in TX.

I was just reading up on the older aluminum branch circuit wiring. Prior to 1972, the aluminum wire was made out of utility grade alloy. The mechanical properties of this alloy were piss poor for branch circuits.

The thermal expansion coefficient as well as creep were a problem with the common steel screw connection. This would cause it to loosen over thermal cycles.

In 1972, they developed a better alloy for building wire purposes, called the 8000 series. Much less thermal expansion and creep.

The larger sizes of stranded aluminum wire, even the older alloy, wasn't much of problem, being terminated in lug type terminals.

309 publius. Out in CA in the mid 1970s, a mobile home that was wired with aluminum could not be mortgaged or insured.

Close as they could get, was "Interim Financing", which included a full re-wiring, and NOT a Certificate of Occupancy. Which was issued only after rewiring, and post-inspection.

There is a mobile home park of 1960s units, right on Mission Bay in San Diego. City Fathers HATE HATE HATE the place, but have not been able to dislodge it, then to now. Oh, how they crave the tax gains of modern homes, towers and condos! But the oldsters in there have their Proposition 13 protections, and they'll die before the move.

Most have now died, and the park is soon doomed.

Buy SOURDOUGH English Muffins. Cook 1 egg for ea., in the steel griddle ring, such as you see at McD's or such. Keeps the egg muffin-sized. Flip the egg for over-easy, a not-runny yolk. Toast the muffin, place the egg, place slice of cheese, place strip of bacon cut into two equal halves atop the cheese.

BETTER than Egg McMuffin. McD doesn't use the Sourdough, that's the first secret. McD doesn't lightly toast and butter their muffin, that's the 2nd.

Simple, delicious, and ENJOY!

330 Made the mistake of stopping at McD's and going in the restaurant instead of the drive through. I must have been all of 50F in there and the most uncomfortable chairs and small tables. Couldn't get the touch screen to work (only one was in operation) Tried the phone Ap and was told the store didn't exist. Gave up and went to the one register and the nice girl took my order. What a rotten experience.
Their so called new, hi tech stores have got to do better than that. Before the remodel, the place had a fireplace and comfy chairs.
