The Morning Report — 12/20/22

bidengillcrossword.jpg

Good morning, kids. I'm feeling a bit schizophrenic today. I mean, for a while now, I've been more or less resigned to the fact that I've joined the camp that thinks it's time to move on from Donald Trump as the standard-bearer for 2024. Completely discounting the unhinged Never-Trumpers whose attacks are based solely on lies, sheer pettiness and perhaps jealousy, there are cogent and reasoned arguments to be made against his candidacy. Not his influence nor status as the leader of the movement to restore America as founded, but merely his candidacy.

Now, all that said, we all knew that the past 18 months of this J-6 kangaroo court would eventually lead to the preordained conclusion that Donald Trump would be found culpable of insurrection and referred for criminal prosecution to the DOJ. And now, here it is. Forgetting the complete illegitimacy of this, aside from further cementing the myth of Democrat-Leftist good, GOP-conservative evil, the only other reason for this entire despicable, disgusting fraud was to abuse the Constitution in order to prohibit Donald Trump from running for president. Of course, the possibility of frog marching him to jail and confiscating his wealth is the wet dream "icing" on the cake, so to speak.

Are they this stupid or is it arrogance? If the last thing they wanted was to see Donald Trump as their 2024 opponent, they just fucked up. Worse, they're about to make him a martyr.

Remember though that the January 6 committee’s decision carries no legal weight anywhere in the executive branch. The decision to file charges, and what charges to file, rests completely with Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice. That’s cold comfort to Trump, since Garland is easily the most partisan AG since Eric Holder happily served as Barack Obama’s “wingman.”

I don’t honestly know if Trump truly intends to run in 2024, or if his early campaign announcement was meant to give him the political and fundraising clout to fight back against the committee and Joe Biden’s corrupt DOJ.

What I do know is that what we’re watching ain’t justice. It’s partisan politics with the power of the FBI and the courts to back it up.

And that is the absolute bottom line here. Oh there was an insurrection against our government. It was planned and executed by a cabal of Democrats, RINOs, the Deep State intel and LE communities to make it look as if Trump and his followers were the instigators and perpetrators. But, you already knew that. Trump or no Trump, 2020 was the coup de grâce that for sure finished off the last vestige of America as founded. So, as I asked, is this committee's pre-ordained conclusion stupidity or arrogance? I have to say that considering elections in every key swing district and state have been rigged to allow Democrats and only Democrats to win 99.9% of the time – or at least seriously blunt a drubbing as we saw in the midterms – then you can run all the Trumps, DeSantises, Reagans, Coolidges, Roy Beans, George Pattons all the way up and down the ticket and it won't make a difference.

The referral of Trump for prosecution is meant to send a message, as if the arrest and detention without being charged of scores of Americans who did nothing more than allow themselves to be duped by Capitol cops to enter the Capitol and become patsies for the DOJ and propagandists didn't send enough of a message. The Luca Brasi style of "message."

So, just when I'm ready to move on from Trump, they go and turn him into a martyr. I will never not love and admire the guy for what he did, warts and all. There are no doubt millions of people who feel the same way coupled with millions more who remain diehard Trump supporters. And yet, look what happened in the midterms. Look at what's being revealed about Twitter and censorship, with the irony being the same evil bastard propagandists who worked hand in hand with the FBI to embargo the Biden laptop story are now embargoing the story about that story!

We're at a point where what's happening is bigger than Trump and bigger than mere elections, especially since those have been permanently "fortified." Something's got to give.

10 Identity is the Trojan horse. The moment any rights were applied to someone because of an identity, black, gay, woman, LGBTQ+, etc., the rights guaranteed in Constitution and Bill of Rights became a bad joke. You sexual orientation, skin color, religion, or whatever is not your identity. There are only two categories in the US, citizen and non citizen. We have clearly defined rights for both groups. Every right granted someone for a single trait is an abomination.

14 Another conservative saying they just want Trump to go away is foolish.
Why not welcome every ally we have against the Deep State? We're following some Queensbury-like set of rules in our heads while our opponents are following Rules for Radicals and bringing the nasty.
At the very least, we can cheer Trump for standing up with everything he has.
Those who wish him to go away are too sensitive for the fight - they don't want to hear the media's TDS ravings. Which is precisely what the media wants us to do - be demoralized.

No *legal* weight. Plenty of other kinds of weight.

The ball is now in Garland's court, but his hands are also tied to a point. The entire Committee exercise has been a trap for the AG, in a way. There is so much press furor over it that he has to do *something.* The Committee was supposed to give him cover to do it. They have failed. They have provided no cover. Nothing meaningful and nothing useful. But in their attempt to provide cover, they've also created an environment - a synthetic press environment, but an environment nonetheless - that more or less demands that Garland take the next step.

36 It is not the "last thing they want" to make Trump their 2024 opponent. They very much want him to run, for all of those "good and cogent" reasons you alluded to.

Does this illustrate the absurdity of them claiming he is some sort of existential threat to democracy? Of course. If he was that sort of threat, they wouldn't want him to get the Republican nomination, because anyone who does has a non-zero chance of winning the Presidency.

But they're very willing to run against a damaged Trump, and they're trying to damage him even more than he already damages himself.

Trump might very well have been the only major Republican who could have beaten Clinton in 2016. Trump might very well be the only major Republican who could NOT beat Biden in 2024.

That's how party politics works in a single-party system. We have a single-party system, just like all tyrannies. The cops and the spies and the soldiers are the footmen of the rulers. When the people bound to the tyranny by force - that is, the citizens - are lucky, the cops and spies and soldiers align to different internal factions and have to split their attention between general oppression and internal power struggles. When the people are unlucky, one faction is unquestionably dominant and the cops and spies and soldiers can focus on their primary mission of intimidation and oppression.

54 So, as I asked, is this committee's pre-ordained conclusion stupidity or arrogance?
++++
Terror and arrogance begetting recklessness. J6 was nothing, but it was more than anyone had seen before. It terrified the ruling class and in their arrogance - the arrogance that comes from *knowing* that they are above the law and above the rubes - leapt into the Committee process to launch their investigation.

Their arrogance is well-founded. They *are* above the law and they *are* superior - superior by law as well as by their informal networks of pull and power - to the rubes. But they have behaved recklessly and run the risk of either fracturing the factional lines as they exist today (if Garland declines to prosecute Trump for no reason) or martyring Trump (if Garland decides to prosecute Trump, regardless of outcome). They stumbled into a no-win scenario. It isn't an all-lose scenario, either, but none of this has turned out how they envisioned.

Not mass hysteria. Rational decision-making.

If you're a white man, you're fucked. You've been told your whole life that you are evil by virtue of *what* you are, and *who* you are is irrelevant. It is a total inversion of the old philosophy. These guys are trapped. They've been indoctrinated into playing the role of the villain and as villains, they have little or no opportunity. No good jobs. No good schools. No good grades. Any whiff of heterodoxy or a single word uttered in their own defense will see them branded as white supremacists and thrown out.

But being gay or trans gets them on the ladder. It's the way out. Critical sex theory is the release valve for the pressures that have accumulated courtesy of critical race theory. That many students are opting to hit that release valve should surprise no one. It's a chance at a life. Not a good life, but a life and a relatively safe one. The other option is to become a highwayman and take to a life of criminality.

That's the bitch of it, isn't it? It's not a political crisis to be solved by one person or faction. It's a civilizational crisis of one worldview versus another. Liberty versus Security. Governance versus Government. Fairness versus Equality. Whatever you want to call it. That doesn't get solved by an election or an ordinance or a law.

80 It's not a new message. Five months after Trump took office, six years of phony investigations began, and five seconds after he took office, four years of stonewalling, obstruction and open betrayal by his own Party began.

Since Trump won, the message has been clear: "You people have no say in your governance. WE DO. And if you get the idea that you do, we'll destroy any person who tries to give you a voice. Sit down and shut up. This is our country, we are the rulers, and you are the subjects."

81 I love how thinking that Trump is damaged politically (Newflash: Trump is absolutely damaged, politically) somehow means you are advocating for the most wishy-washy GOP-e candidate possible.

It does not. Primaries exist for a reason.

Trump did an important thing. He deserves thanks for it. But he would deserve far more thanks if he now rode off into the sunset and let someone else actually advance the work he began. He cannot finish it, because he will not be re-elected. And the increasingly over-the-top simping for the guy in places like this indicates that his die-hards are starting to realize this, and screeching desperately to try to somehow reverse it by attacking people whose votes they absolutely need in order to accomplish what they claim are their goals.

Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Joe Biden at December 20, 2022 08:36 AM (Zz0t1)

140 Yep, something's gotta give and it will. The arrest and imprisonment of Trump will signal a purge, IMO. For the last week or so, on twitter, there have been hints that "justice is coming" for "the fascists", meaning the republicans and "populists".

I don't think some of the instigators will be as safe as they'd like to think, as when the economy falls and all the clot shot info oozes out, plenty of the more plenipotentiary donks will get the blame. That includes Garland, Mayorkas, Yellen, Blinken, Walensky, and Ron Klain. Sure Granholm will take some heat, too as will HUD, but Those last two can blame the failures on Mayorkas (so many migrants in blue cities) and Blinken (if he had not pressed for war, which he did, we wouldn't have this trouble).
It's all very frightening, but even local groups are feeling that all is not what it seemed. As long as I've been alive, we're taken pride in Jewish cabinet members as a sign of accomplishment and safety. The other day, I heard someone at the U say "maybe it's time to stop counting and touting our role in the administration". Um, yeah.
But, I think the game's been rigged to turn on academic types and the oligarchs.

They need to be careful. The trans/gay thing is necessary as a pressure release for the "you're a white devil" stuff. If you remove any possible pressure release - that is, cut off every escape - then there are only two significant probabilities for what happens with those people:
1. Suicide
2. Organized crime

They'd hope for door number one and they will get a lot of it, but there will be a whole lot of door number two, too. And they increase the odds that the gangsters they're creating actually *will* preferentially attack non-whites.

I disagree. We have three generations of people who have been maleducated to think in abstract terms rather than the concrete.

Facts don't matter. (reference: Climate Change, C19, MMT economics, etc)

What does matter is projecting the right emotion and possessing the right thoughts and sentiments. Think of the Asch Line Study on conformity. Even when a person knows that the crowd is wrong, they will follow the crowd.

183 There are several possible paths to 270. I don't know why people keep claiming there are not.

Walker almost won in Georgia despite being, let's be honest, an awful candidate. That state can be won. Tank got crushed.

North Carolina is winnable, and has a legislature who is actually doing a fair bit to ensure there are no shenanigans.

Nevada just elected a Republican governor DESPITE shenanigans.

Take all the states we should win easily (which now probably includes Florida, and certainly includes Florida if DeSantis is the nominee.) Re-take the very winnable North Carolina, Georgia and Nevada. Win one big swing-ish state like Michigan or Pennsylvania.

That lets you lose Arizona (which no one should be counting on now) and still get to 270.

This is hard, but can be done.

How provincial. You really believe Biden got more votes than Obama? You really think that the spirit of Tammany Hall is fiction, that elections are relatively honest?

There is no path to 270 because votes don't win elections, ballots do. The enemy can and will make as many ballots as they need to win the contests they need to win.

It might be. But don't blame Japan. Blame Xi Jinping and Joe Biden. American weakness and Red Chinese belligerence have forced Japan's hand. They have finally figured out that they may well have to go it alone, and that has dictated ending "strategic ambiguity" with regard to Taiwan, tolerance of Chinese industrial perfidy and dependence on external security. Japan's actions are provocative, but they aren't unjustified or irrational.

231 My theory is that the GOP allowed cheating as long as they didn't cheat establishment candidates.

Here in MA it was revealed over the last 'election' season that the state GOP has an unwritten agreement with the Dems that, if a candidate is challenging a Dem incumbent, the GOP will render NO assistance to said candidate.

Why? Because supporting a challenger means that the Dem incumbent will then never 'accommodate' any GOP grifter who proposes some worthless bill in the House or Senate.

And now you know why I don't vote.

I'm a yuuuuuge fan of several variations of Four Roses - Small Batch, Single Barrel, and Small Batch Select. The Small Batch Select is outstanding! Makers Mark 101 is also always on hand for me. Those are all in the $30-$60 range. Also in that range, I am a big fan of an up and coming brand called New Riff, which is around $40-$45. Used to only find it in Kentucky, but I'm noticing it becoming more widely available lately. Can you tell that I tend to like stuff in the 100-proof area?

261 Everything does in fact change if there is a hard recession. Changes in possibly unpredictable ways, unfortunately. People who have suddenly been impoverished are very likely to be angry. But also, unfortunately, very likely to be easier to bribe.

2022 was a missed opportunity. I look at New Hampshire. The very-winnable First Congressional District we contested with a 25-year-old. A bright girl, with a future, but she was really unlikely to win. And the Senate we contested with Don Bolduc, a man I would be glad to have as my neighbor, but who decided that two weeks before the election was a good time to claim that the largest high school in the state was setting out litter boxes for kids who identify as cats (not true and easily disprovable) among other basically nutty claims.

We could have won the Senate with better candidates in just a couple of spots (New Hampshire, Georgia, maybe Pennsylvania) and could be in a much stronger position in the House with maybe a half-dozen candidates who didn't need to be moderates, but did need to have some sort of resume or history of personal accomplishment.

I don't want, "But she fights!" I want, "But she fights...and wins!"

277 There might not be a path to 270 if changes aren't made. It might be worth keeping an eye on Kari Lake in Arizona. She's not done yet and her lawsuit goes right to the heart of election corruption.

That is the point. Reduce the fraud, start turning the nation around. No party wants to reduce the fraud.

There are solid candidates out there that are being torpedoes by their own party and using fraud as a means to keep them under control.

Case in point both McCain and Romney benefitted greatly from the fraud performed on their behalf during the primaries. They both knew they were illegitimate and had some of the deadest campaigns in the generals. McCain, early on in his campaign even fired his strategist for the crime of saying Barak Hussein Obama, McCain later stopped campaigning and endorsed Barak months before the election.

Not for one second to I believe that Mitt and MItch are in love with Zelensky because he's a beacon of democracy. if you want to make an argument don't use two of the Seven Sisters - all girls - who were 90 percents lesbian-until-graduation when I was at Penn! I knew those girls and they all got married and had kids after grad.

OF COURSE girls at all-girls college are going to say they are lesbians. I think the only difference now is more will say "bisexual" or other goofy things to be "different."

294 For a huge percentage of the tens of millions who voted for President Trump, 2020 was the endgame for us. That was the time for the lethargic, country club G.O.P. to finally stand up, fight and win.

Instead what we got was a mute party who's silence encouraged the courts to shun even hearing the election challenges and emboldened the enemies of the United States and their proxies within our borders.

The Republican Party is done. They didn't fight when the moment was upon them and they won't fight now. They are not part of the solution. They are part of the problem.

People are more than welcome to "move on" from Trump but recognize that Trump supporters have "moved on" from the Republicans. I hope they die as a political party. They deserve it for what they allowed to happen to this nation. But hey, they got to go back to business as usual, which is all they care about.

So if I have words left for the hopelessly corrupt and worthless G.O.P., it is simple. Fix 2020 or go to hell.

We lost because the GOP and mostly Mitch wanted them to lose and didn't support them. He took millions from Blake Masters, an excellent candidate and an America First candidate, and sent the money to coke head in Alaska who is in his pocket.

Yes, we have to beat the left and the GOP and yes it is going to be hard. But what choice to we have other than submitting? It's not optimism, it's hatred for both the left and the GOP for what they are doing to this country.

Pro tip -- buy higher proof stuff and cool it down yourself if you want. Use distilled water. Be as precise as you want or just eyeball it. Most whiskey (spirits in general) have been watered down before bottling. Typically a bourbon will come out of the barrel in the 125-135 proof range. They add water to lower the proof. You can do the same thing yourself if/when you want to.
For instance -- I have a bottle of Knob Creek 120. Sometimes that's too hot for me. 2 ounces of that plus a half ounce of water results in a 2.5 ounce pour at 96 proof. if you use a quarter ounce of water instead, you get a 2.25 ounce pour at 106.7 proof.

Gotta disagree. You call out the administration in general, and the CHP and the DC courts specifically for denying citizens their fundamental rights to a fair and speedy trial. And you denounce Pelosi and the J6 committee as a bunch of traitors.

Every. Fucking. Chance. You. Get.

345 Sure are a lot of new names in here pushing to get rid of Trump.

LOL, I noticed.

i try very hard not to go either way. but i'll go on record here and now. i will write in Donald J. Trump if he isn't on the ballot. anyone but him on the ballot, even desantis, gets that write in. desantis should be smart enough to not throw away a good governor position on a failure of a fake run for potus.

346 Candidate quality doesn't matter? Hell, no wonder the GOP-e controls the party. They have no rational opposition.

Hassan in New Hampshire was a good candidate for the Dems. Three terms in the State Senate, two terms as Governor, one term as Senator. Never DID a damn thing, but never really made any high profile errors and po'd a lot of people either.

And she was STILL beatable! But we ran Bolduc, and so we lost.

Candidate quality DOES matter, and it matters more to Republicans, who for various reasons that have been mentioned on this thread, have basically no room for error.

Oz might have won, if Mastriano wasn't such an anchor. So Fetterman won. Masters did a good job, I thought, but actually yeah, Kelly was a good candidate for the Dems. He pretended to be independent on some issues (like the border) and he was a freakin' astronaut!

The candidates matter. Pretending otherwise is childish.

Nah, I'd even open up one of my good ones for the morons.

I learned to keep some cheap but decent stuff around and hide the nice stuff unless I'm with folks I know appreciate what they're being given, though. I had a little party once and a couple of hours in the women were mixing coke with a barrel-select bottle of Woodford Reserve. "It's fancy!"

Never again.

Trump not "denouncing Pelosi and the J6 committee" every chance he had...

OK. Suppose he had, what then? Zilch, nada, zero, rien de rien.

Posted by: Ziba at December 20, 2022 09:39 AM (4h9M3)

349 I'll be critical of Trump, but I think he made the right decision in basically ignoring the Jan. 6th committee. Nothing he did or said would have made a difference, and he would have raised its profile by hammering that drum constantly.

Advocating for the people still in jail without trial would be a much mor productive tactic (as well as being the ethical thing to do.)

350 There are probably more actual gays now than there used to be because I think "born this way" is a false premise and there has been a massive pro-gay grooming exercise going on in every aspect of the culture for decades, but I strongly suspect a lot of it is "I'll say I'm gay if you'll leave me alone and let me try to live my life as something other than a villain."

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at December 20, 2022 08:24 AM

And everyone who has done that has made everything much, much worse. Had everyone instead fought back against it, maybe this movement never gets to where it is today. Instead, "go along to get along" has led to the death of our culture. So much for the attitude of "better to die on your feet than live on your knees".

They want you to feel demoralized.

You are in a demoralization psy op and have been since around 2007.

Fight that first. Refuse to knuckle under. They're not as in control as they seem to be. And we have God, they only have Satan.

352 Sometimes you need to be strategic about how you fight even losing battles.

For another New Hampshire example: There are a lot of young, basically crazy "progressives" who want to rise in NH.

But the Dems nominated a very boring, staid Doctor for governor. Tom Sherman was never going to beat Sununu. But he is a personally decent guy and wouldn't scare people off like some of the crazier possibilities.

So he lost, badly, but not nearly as badly as some of the alternatives might have. And so he didn't pull down Hassan (which, I am quite sure, is EXACTLY why he ran. Everyone knew he wasn't going to win, he was taking one for the team.)

Not being Mitch McConnell doesn't need to mean running like you've got no brain at all.

354 That Tom Cruise video is pretty cool.

Yep. I actually read the content. AND, clicked on the links!! Thanks, J.J. I don't know how you do it. I'd be a raving maniac if I did what you do 5 days a week. Well, at least I'd have a legitimate excuse.

355 The Feds are hoping this is the stick-poke that finally gets the J6 supporters and sympathizers to do something violent that they can then hype up as another "insurrection" and come down with both jackboots.

Just typical FBI-like agitation and instigation.

Remember Col. William Prescott's order at Bunker Hill. Prescott's order was to reserve fire and aim low because powder was scarce.

Hold fast.

356 Miraculously, it was allowed to go forward on two counts out of 10. The evidence she presents will be overwhelming. But she won't win because that cannot be allowed. Still, the effort to negate the evidence and subvert justice will further expose the malefactors, for whatever that's worth.

Is there a link to what the 8 counts that were tossed were?
And of the 2 going forward is there meat there or is this just the deep state tease... before it's all tossed?

358 Giving up and quitting at this stage is to deny your heritage of continuing the struggle our predecessors engaged in, to ensure the Republic endures.

Our history shows us meeting and prevailing over issues even more serious than the current one. Just a cursory look will reveal that, and an unbroken record of success.

Defending our heritage will never be easy but it must NEVER be abandoned or the country will indeed be lost.

359 Note that the EV future would mean they could turn off charging at one central point (yes, a few people will be able to charge with a generator or solar but most won't). So lockdowns would be easy.

Not that the intent is for all to have EVs. The transition from ICE doesn't mean EVs for all.

360 It isn't JUST Trump. Once they've convicted him for "insurrection " in front of a kangaroo court, they'll use that to invoke the insurrection clause in the 14th Amendment to expel every Republican who protested the 2020 election from the House and Senate, and keep them off the ballot in the future.

Not that it will matter, because they will have two thirds of the Senators present and voting to impeach and remove judges, approve treaties, and pass Constitutional Amendments.

361 I would find your points to be reasonable if we weren't being grifted and by our leaders and influencers every day.

You spoke of messages sent. We also send messages. And if we abandon the only guy since Reagan to stand up for us, we're doomed. We will have sent a message to every future Ronald Reagan to not bother making the sacrifices necessary to lead us, because we'll just betray him when he needs us most.

It's Game Over the people like me. We know where this path leads - Vichy France. And those who choose to get on that path arent worth fighting for. Or liberating.

And this is not directed at you Sefton. You're my fav blogger, and while it's eerie how much you echo my instincts and give them form with words, I don't rate to criticize or second guess you. And I can't imagine how burnt out you and the others must be.

I'm not an influencer, this not my time. My time comes when everything falls apart and you need someone to call in airstrikes. And people like me aren't going to be there if we abandon Trump now. it's very much like that woman who keeps returning to her abusive husband. At a certain point you have to just let her go.
