Marine Corps commandant says COVID vaccine mandates are hurting recruiting

The comments came at the Reagan National Defense Forum this weekend.

Speaking at the Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California on Saturday, Gen. David Berger said, in regards to the vaccine mandate, that “Where it is having an impact for sure is on recruiting, where in parts of the country there’s still myths and misbeliefs about the backstory behind it,” according to Military.com.

Quite the "Con Job" if you ask me. And if you didn't, the story is here anyway.

A young man's fake Tinder persona of an attractive blonde woman was so convincing he managed to persuade an active police officer to hand over his patrol car and body armour vest.

Tyler Rawiri Tetera, then 23 and long fascinated with police, used the car and vest in an elaborate sex-money scam, swindling tens of thousands of dollars in total from three victims. They bought him iPhones, a car, and in at least one case, had sex with him.

Court documents tell the story of an easily bored young man skilled at using superficial charm and deceit to create chaos.

Suppression orders on Tetera's identity and file were lifted last week, shedding light on his spree of lies and deception from January 2020 until his arrest in March the following year.

Definitely has a future in politics.

For years Uncle Sam has been interfering with the free market system in the automobile industry. Does congress really need to save the AM radio? Don't they have more pressing matters?

AM radio in cars isn’t going anywhere while Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey is around.

In a letter he sent to more than 20 car manufacturers, Markey outlined why he thinks AM radio is important and asked that they continue to have AM radios in future models, including electric vehicles known as EVs.

“Broadcast AM radio remains a crucial, cost-free source of news, sports, and weather, and, more importantly, is an essential medium for public safety officials — including the president — to communicate with the public during emergencies,” he wrote in the letter.

Markey cited statistics from the Pew Research Center News Platform Fact Sheet from September 2022 which said 47% of Americans receive their news from the radio.

Interesting what is coming out of the Twitter archives. Not surprising though.

Internal Twitter emails uncovered appear to indicate that another top Democratic candidate’s campaign colluded with staffers on the platform to block accounts that contained so-called election misinformation.

According to reports, the internal Twitter emails reveal that Arizona Democratic Gov.-elect and current Secretary of State Katie Hobbs allegedly teamed up with former Twitter staffers and executives to flag certain users and accounts. The bombshell revelation comes on the heels of Twitter boss Elon Musk, via journalist Matt Taibbi last week, revealed internal company communications showing the platform worked with the Democratic Party to censor conservatives.

A schadenboneris a schadenboner. Aren't all of the world's leaders a circus of incompetents.

Brussels: A European Union plan to throw a virtual party in the “metaverse” to engage young people in its policies flopped spectacularly after only six people turned up.

The EU Commission’s foreign aid department splashed out £332,000 ($500,000) to create the metaverse - an online square where people could log in to a virtual concert to meet others and learn about the bloc.

Dumb and avoidable = Genius Award Winner.

A 23-year-old Florida sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot by his fellow deputy roommate over the weekend, in what the sheriff described as a “clearly dumb and avoidable accident.”

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy Austin Walsh was killed Saturday morning in Palm Bay by his roommate Andrew Lawson, Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a Sunday news conference.

The two were taking a break from playing online games with friends and were standing and talking together when Lawson, who believed he had unloaded his gun, “jokingly” pointed the weapon at Walsh and pulled the trigger, Ivey said, citing the probe by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Palm Bay Police Department.

I normally don't comment on the Genius Award as the award says it all. However in this instance, I feel quite bad for the family of the slain officer.

And if someone is a cop, they should know better than to play games with a firearm. No excuses. Period. This is the kind of person we don't need in uniform.

On a happier note, here is another Genius Award Winner.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ)– A man was charged with biting a security officer’s finger while he was publicly intoxicated, according to State College police.

It was right before 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 when an officer noticed Timothy Rossetti, 21, of Carbondale “staggering” along the 800 block of University Drive, according to the charges filed.

Rossetti tried to get into the driver’s side of a pickup truck, but it was locked so he proceeded to walk towards the McQuaide Blakso Attorneys at Law Building and was found inside by police.

Snow storm. Guardian angels. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. — A 31-year-old truck driver is sharing his story of a stranger who helped him get out of a very dangerous situation while traveling on Highway 230 during a snowstorm.

Paul Baker lives in Boise, Idaho, and drives a 530-foot flatbed truck throughout the Pacific Northwest. He said the actions of the man saved his life and allowed him to go home to his family.

“We were there for about three to four hours, around 10 p.m. We see the hero Jared, he came over coming up the hill, he had a pretty beefed up duly Duramax truck and he had a lot of lights on it, he was hauling two snowmobiles he had just come from snowmobiling in the boonies by himself,” Baker said.

The stranger who helped Baker and another man who was stuck is named Jared Broadwater.

Hungary is perhaps the most extreme example of the division of politics into the City Party and the Country Party, which you find in many countries these days (including the US).

In the election, Orban lost big in Budapest, and won big everywhere else in Hungary.

Only the City Party is legitimate, of course.

News of sixteen year USCG highly rated veteran being thrown career-overboard, just because wouldn't take the jab.

Who in their right mind would want to join an organization with that kind of slippery slope of a career path? Oh, and the "quality" of enlisted being promoted to the CPO ranks... let's just say, the standards have been lowered. A LOT. (yes, I have a direct source for both points of data)

88 I'm wondering if Hungary knows something we don't... Or haven't been told.

Hungary, oddly enough, doesn't view the war in Ukraine as the ultimate struggle of Good and Evil.

One thing that has pissed the Hungarians off is that the Ukraine has announced that Ukrainian will henceforth be the sole language of instruction in Ukrainian schools.

This was done to punish Russian-speakers, of course, but there is a small area of Ukraine that is Hungarian-speaking, and now all the schools in that area will have to conduct classes in Ukrainian.

I appreciate your efforts.

One thing that does not miniaturize well is the antenna. Tradtionally, AM radios have used either external "long wire" antennas (the best), or internal loop or loopstick antennas. I might. The boy needs some serious keeping in line, in order to function properly. He also is not going to be some kind of scholar, but he is probably going to be good working with his hands. He has spent the past 5 months at the Alaska Military Youth Academy, which is on base and run by the folks who also run the National Guard, and funded by State of AK. It has been nothing but good for him.

He will be remarkably resistant to the woke garbage, just naturally. He was raised by me and DH, after all. But his inherent psychopathy will be a problem if someone doesn't keep it firmly in check. Not a lot of options out there.

I'm hoping some inquisitive bird wanders by sooner or later, then tells all its relatives and friends that there is really yummy food right there where Hersh and the Wicked Witch can watch them feed. At the house, Hersh spent half his waking hours hiding under a car, watching the bird feeders while the Wicked Witch bounced up and down on the window sill inside making all sorts of funny cat noises.

Keep Tyler away from social media. There was a case in which a guy pretended to be a beautiful young woman who was obsessed about Texas A&M, catfished a male student, and then murdered him. That was the justification for decriminalizing hard drugs in Oregon - that addicts all desperately want to kick the habit, and the only thing stopping them from quitting is the lack of treatment facilities. Open the treatment facilities up, and the addicts will flock to them of their own accord.

Turns out that's not true - give them a tent (supplied for free by the county), free food (supplied via EBT and numerous organizations), and enough money to buy fent or meth (via theft or some other mechanism), and they are perfectly content. Almost no one the social workers come in contact with are interested in quitting.

My son just finished an internship at Textron and they completely subsidized his pilot training. He achieved his first two certifications during his first summer.

He was aerospace engineering, but was pleasantly surprised to run into several of his old high school buddies. The company hired interns from almost every single area of study, including non-college trajectory interns.

Your son might be able to get a start at an aerospace company in your area and have them subsidize or pay 100% for much of his civilian aviation training. Meanwhile he could earn a paycheck in some job that he enjoys.

One thing I will say about that war - we had fewer restrictions then most of the "police actions" we've fought.

Okay, I have a related story. I mentioned the other evening that I am working on a humorous short story, 'The Rehab Chronicles', based on my post-brain bleed stay in a rehab hospital.

While there, exactly a year ago, my good 'friend' Wayman (USN Ret.) called me:
Me [groggily]: "Hullo..."
Wayman: "Mike, it's me, Wayman"
Me: "Oh, hi"
Wayman: "Just wanted to let you know, Navy just beat Army"
Me: "#*%&#*, Wayman, I'm lying here with staples the length of my skull, tubes draining in and out of me, and you're calling to crow about Navy beating Army?!"
Wayman: "Yup"

It may not sound like it, but it was really was funny as hell.

Sadly, only a few months later he was in the same facility post-surgery. I stopped in to see him on a Saturday, and he passed away Sunday night. Clot, they say.

---
Yes. Given current trends, though, they won't. The Uniparty would like AM radio to die. It's cheaper to broadcast on AM, and covers up to half the country with one station.

Make it more expensive to broadcast, and the little people lose that as an option.

Why did NPR choose FM? More stations are needed to cover the same broadcast area. Which requires more staff. Which requires a much bigger budget for the grift.

They didn't do it for the pristine audio quality for the bumper music. They did it for the grift.

Heinlein called the modern era in a lot of ways in the 60s, hell even a Clockwork Orange was about an insane left gone amuck wanting to make room for political opponents.

This will either be a hot or cold 30 years war, followed by regional disruptions and an eventual rebirth as something very different on the other end of the tunnel.

At best we can put it on hold *maybe* a hundred years with the retarded actions from on high, there is a good series called "Vienna Blood" by the BBC that captures the dying Austro-Hungarian empire well as a backdrop to a psychiatrist who hobbies as a detective.

Actually, the Kamikaze did OK on landings, as they had enough launch/recovery cycles in their training so as to make it necessary to learn. They not only had to learn their (very most) basic Airmanship, but they did have to get good enough to have flown an attack profile, understand the geometry of the final dive, and take the planes performance and other characteristics into account in the doing. Kamikazie did hellacious damage. I'm just glad the suicide attack torpedoes were never quite as effective. Those things were a "one and done" for any ship they'd hit.

It was the Chinese who were willing to kill thousands for a few yards of Korean territory. Admiral Turner Joy was at the peace meetings, his book is an eye opener.

The American delegation on arrival was loaded into US Jeeps where the blood was still fresh on the seats. When the Americans were first seated, they discovered their chairs were shorter than their Chinese Communist hosts so had to look up. And when the Communists would get insistent that a piece of Korean mountain belonged to them, the Americans would call up that sector to warn them of an impending attack.

I'd read an autobiography of a Kaitan pilot, who survied the war. Closest he came to "launch" was airlocking into the cockpit, and awaiting the order. Which, didn't come, and they airlocked him back into the mother-sub.

That was about 8th or 9th grade for me, and I've forgotten the title. But it was a Bantam book publication, of this I'm sure. Those Kaitan pilots drilled HARD on taking the relative bearing of their target, with a one-second look through the primitive periscope. They'd plot that on an attack board, and then set their heading for the attack run. From then on, they were flying blind, until impact. Or, miss.

444 Evening.

Tonight, on a whim, I rewatched Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie. So good. So good.

Ya know what's so good? One of the the things that's so good? Remember that this movie came out very shortly after 9/11. That, whether intentionally or not, it's a tribute to the men that gave all on that day. So many little moments feature New York City cops or firefighters acting honorably. Committed to their duty. And you can't help but remember that sacrifice. It's such a silly movie, but damn it if it doesn't remind me of those feelings.

I could go on about this movie and what it gets right vis a vis the title character. But right now I think it's worth noting that it's a wonderful yet inadvertent love letter to the best of that city and the best of our country.

You're at 1,500 ft. 2 miles from the target ship. Your speed is 300 mph, and the ship is doing 32 knots (37 mph).

It's at hard right rudder, and you're going to be going for a hard right turn in your attack and decent, trying to make the "solution" for the gunners as difficult as you can make it.

If your "Mk1 Mod0" eyeball estimate is off by a quarter-second, you miss by about ten to twenty feet over the deck. But you still DAID, as your terminal dive is going to put you into the ship or into the water. You are COMMITTED, as soon as you push the throttle up and the stick forward. Sayanora!

That does sound good. Depending on the gravy, you could add either chicken or beef-flavored.

I've added homemade shrimp stock (made from heads, tails and shells) to linguine when I made a shrimp, sliced green olive and a shrimp stock-red sauce dish. Even did the heresy of adding grated cheese to the plated seafood pasta. That's a sin I'll gladly confess to every day.

So yeah, bouillon and pasta. Why not?

I had electric for years. The stove was new when I moved into my first house, so I never changed it. Well that and I didn't feel like running a gas line, which I could have done quick if the basement didn;t have a finished ceiling. When it finally went I did one of those glass top stoves. Yeah, nice to clean, but you needed flat bottom pots, and if you turned the temperature down it took forever, and I ended up sliding the pot off the burner a bit. The new had an electric wall oven and a gas cook top, so when I did the new kitchen I shit canned the wall oven and cooktop and went with a dual fuel stove since I had both the electric line and the gas line. I had to do minor relocation, but that was easy. I should have done it in the old house.

The house I bought in Las Cruces has gas and electricity in the kitchen and laundry. I also knew when I moved in the appliances where shot including the glass top electric stove. What I didn't expect is all of the would blow up in the first few weeks of the Covid lockdowns. By some miracle Lowes had everything at fair price and was able to deliver them within a couple weeks. In addition to the kitchen appliances blowing up my washing machine a few months later developed a leak in the tank - I was like, really? Being 11 years old and a tank costing about 80% of new machine it was, all right, sign me up for a washer and dryer. Sometimes you just can't win. Buying appliances is circus - the trick is figure out the models that are identical to the top of line machines minus all the BS feature normal people will never use. After much fussing around the I found that Whirlpool makes some excellent kitchen appliances and LG is pretty good at making washers and dryers.

I started appliance shopping in the beginning of the summer because the cabinets were going to take 14 weeks to build and deliver. There were 56 people on the waiting list for the dishwasher I wanted, but nobody on the list for next level up dishwasher, which was a 3 rack, so i went with that. 563 There were 56 people on the waiting list for the dishwasher I wanted, but nobody on the list for next level up dishwasher, which was a 3 rack, so i went with that. Glad I did, it holds a shit done of dishes.
Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads

Exactly. I went with kitchen gear that is a couple notches down from the most expensive stuff partly because I could get ASAP and partly because the build quality was so significantly better than their primary homeowner models. Sometimes, if you can, it really makes sense to not totally cheap out (which is the story of my life). There is something rather satisfying about having knobs and controls that don't feel like they are about to fall off when you touch them and nothing having to wear gun range head gear to run the dishwasher.

564 Berserker. If I was gonna build a new kitchen, I'd put an Auto-Chlor or Hobart commercial Corner Dishwasher in at the suitable site. You feed those in with dishes or glasses on plastic racks. About a 7 minute run time. Loud? WHO CARES?

The dishes come out SO HOT that they dry on the rack in a minutes time. Sterile, too. The three bottle combo of Soap, Rinse and Sanitizer that AutoChlor uses? Only a surgical autoclave does more.

Commercial stuff is different. Not always suitable for consumerworld. But when it is? It's the BEST. (always opt for the commercial overhead sink sprayer faucet. Always!)

566 Lowe's sells the LG COMMERCIAL washer and dryer. Any color you want, as long as it's White. About $1,100 ea. Posted by Jim.

I actually looked at those and they are a thing. But I couldn't justify them. I don't have a household of barbarians living with me any more. A 4.5 cu ft washer with a stainless tank and a 7 cu ft dryer were everything I need. And the software controls - dang LG - they are way sophisticated. The one thing you must keep though is the Styrofoam washer tank insert in case you move. If you move and don't have that the tank bangs around and you end up punching a hole in it. Ask me how I knows this.

I always wondered what the hair thingies are called. Girls probably know.

Very cute in my opinion, and made me Dream of Jeannie.

Anymore, I fuss hard over the things I purchase and I don't compromise anymore. I will postpone purchase until I can set enough cash aside until I can exactly the right item. I find that I am never dissatisfied with what I have in my life by doing that and that what I have last for years and years. My last great thing I got my mitts own is my bed frame - handmade, quarter sawn white oak, in a custom craftsmen style design. It is work of art and I love it. Getting the rest of the house up to that standard is going to take some years but it will be lovely when it is down.

I ain't got the square footage for those. Otherwise? Yep.

And a proper can opener is the overhead crank that'll rip open a #10 can of beans like Berserker's guitar tears into a solo.

If I built out a new residential kitchen, all the countertops would be commercial stainless, too. Function over form, for the win.

Two sets of photos you need to see.

Berserker's kitchen build of cabinets in his new digs.

And what I built here at Casa New Dawn, post Hurricane Ike.

Both are showplaces, only, different.

Oh man, I dunno. I have all the room I need for whatever I want to plant (I know, just imagine!) It comes down to how much energy do I have for weeding.

I'd like to have some pumpkins this time. I've already got some heirloom corn to add to the usual ones (white and yellow). 3 kinds of okra. There will be more peas and variants of beans.

And of course, the Tomatoes.

Yes, there will be flowers, too. Still working on this.

That is what I am talking about. Just from following the conversations here over months without a doubt I am positive I would be wow'd. Once you grasp the value of craftsmanship you sort of become impossible to have around. So, yeah, I am totally on board with ethos that drives you to create things of that quality.

Well the kitchen here really is the centerpiece in the house. Its the whole physical center of the house. People would come over and they like to sit around the island and hang out because its a large area. I tried to steer away from a commercial or industrial look to keep more of a comfy feel to the place and keep the vibe people liked in the first place. I couldn't help going slightly into epic territory because I used to do it for a job, so its expected of me to push the limits, especially in my own house. I hadn't done a kitchen in over 20 years, so even I was caught a little off guard by how complex they had become. I told my brother what I wanted, told him to add a little bling to the design and he did. I didn't realize all the custom assembly of components that goes on these days, so it was a grind.

My dream is of a large kitchen where I don't have to move items A, B, and C in order to get to D, and then move B so I can reach E. So sick I am of this tiny galley-style kitchen, of living in 2 rooms plus kitchen and bath.
