What is the significance of the black human silhouette stage right? Is that Lot's wife, post-pillar of salt? But "pillar" suggests just that, a cylindrical column, not a human-shaped form. Peculiar.

The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot came unto Zoar. Then the LORD caused to rain upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; and He overthrow those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD. And he looked out toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the Plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace. Not as dynamic as the version from last week but this stresses the human element, the sorrow at the loss of Lot's wife and the girl's mother. Even though the colors are mostly mottled and dark, the highlights in the daughters' hair brings attention to the figures more than the distant destruction. Pretty subtle.

Several months after former Senate staffer Tara Reade accused Joe Biden of sexual assault, the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a subpoena to Twitter demanding personal information on her accounts, including credit card or bank account numbers.
The subpoena was only recently revealed by the Daily Caller, which obtained emails and documents relating to the incident showing the DOJ asked Twitter to testify in front of a grand jury on December 16, 2020, to provide “all subscriber information” for Reade’s accounts. The information was requested of two accounts belonging to Reade, including @ReadeAlexandra and @TaraMcCabe. […] Reade told the Caller that she didn’t “know why” the DOJ requested the information. “Other than coming forward about Joe Biden, there would be no reason for them to do that,” she told the outlet. @256 Used to be a raging long-term debate in "late antiquity" history about stirrups. Clearly the Greeks et al did not have them. You can't do Gothic lance charges without stirrups -- you'll just put your arse on the ground fast. The chivalric dividing line used to be between euthyphracts and cataphracts, light-armed (overhand lance) and heavy-armed (couched lance, charging knight). Then your Switzers came up with the long pike, and infantry could unhorse anybody.

Posted by: Puddinhead at December 06, 2022 *** Crassus was the fellow who defeated the slave revolt led by Spartacus (Laurence Olivier in the movie). He had founded the first "fire brigade" in Rome. The catch was, you had to sell him your building before he would direct his men to put out the fire. The longer you waited, the lower the price went. He'd earlier made a lot of money out of the proscriptions (think social media "canceling," except they *actually* canceled you) in Sulla's time. When the film shows the young Julius Caesar as a protege of his, that timing is accurate. JC was born about 100 BC and would have been about 40 at the time of Spartacus' revolt. I cannot plow through the KJV. But I'm not reading for scholarship, but discipleship, so it has to be accessible to me.
Anyway, I didn't mean to say you were Bible illiterate, I hope you didn't take it that way. I read your comment about only having the kids bible as background for the OT stories. Posted by: TecumsehTea-not a resident troll at December 06, 202 *** Oh, no, not at all. I'm familiar with a lot of the elements and stories, but not fine details. I've read many other sources of OT tales since my childhood. (The illustrations in that young people's volume have stuck with me, though. I still remember the drawing of Elijah and the ravens, though not the actual story of him and his prophecies.) 329 The Western empire doesn't end up going heavy for cataphracts like the Eastern empire does.
-------------------- Fighting Germans in forrests doesn't favor heavy calvary. Posted by: Puddinhead at December 06, 2022 10:55 AM (GMkMZ) Italy, France, and Spain should have been reasonably suitable though. Given the western empire was overrun, it could also be interpreted as a failure to adapt military advances. Posted by: AoS Fake Editor at December 06, 2022 10:56 AM (JCZqz) Um, no. Not everything unions have done is bad, and union members, even ones classified as "unskilled" are intellectually impaired. The "unskilled" workers on our assembly lines took the jobs to feed their families and helped provide goods for the nation, until the outsourcers decided that cheap to slave labor in China would make them billionaires. 337 I have a friend who drives Friesians. I have ridden them a few times, once in a local parade for everyone to ohh and aww over, the gates are pretty darn big and kind of galumphy, if that is a word. I wouldn’t go out of my way for one myself. But I am not a big person at all, as an adult I can still get on all the naughty ponies and surprise them if they have been acting up with their children. So big drafts or draft crosses are silly for me to ride.

Willowed: Reparations: My mother's father migrated to the U.S. from Canada in the early 1900s. My father's grandparents emigrated to the US. from Bohemia in the late 1800s. My father's mother's family emigrated to the colonies prior to the Revolution, fought for America (at least one fought at the Battle of Monmouth), and fought for the Union in the Civil War. (I have a copy of a great great uncle's discharge papers following the end of the Civil War.) The only questionable element in my extended family would be my mother's mother's family. But my mother's mother was born in Illinois which puts a serious question to whether that branch of the family were slaveholders. Why the hell should I shell out one penny in reparations? The only side of the family provably here prior to 1865 has proof that it fought for the Union!
