Surprise! Merrick Garland's Choice of Special Prosecutor Is Yet Another Angry Democrat With a Limitless Jurisdiction to Get Trump

NBC say that Merrick Garland made a "blunder" in his instructions to his corrupt partisan special prosecutor. Rather than giving him instructions that would result in a quick prosecutorial decision, as Garland claims he wanted, he "blundered" and wrote instructions that would result in, get this, and endless investigation with a limitless scope:

Despite assurances from Garland that a special counsel will not bog down the investigation, reality suggests otherwise. Smith will oversee not one but two ongoing investigations: The efforts to disrupt the counting of the Electoral College ballots on Jan. 6, 2021, and Trump's possession of classified documents and presidential records at his Mar-a-Lago home after leaving office.

For the first one alone, the attorney general has directed Smith to investigate whether "any person or entity unlawfully interfered with the transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election or the certification of the Electoral College on or about January 6, 2021."

Looking into "any person or entity" is a very wide scope that is time-consuming and shifts the focus away from Trump.

Does anyone think this is a "blunder"? No. Democrats and the Deep State and the propaganda Orwellian media -- but I repeat myself thrice -- are determined to have Trump under investigation for the rest of his natural life.

Meanwhile -- you'll never guess! -- Merrick Garland appointed a highly-partisan Democrat apparatchik who conspired with Lois Lerner about what laws he could use as pretext to assist in her illegal targeting of conservatives in order to silence them as political speakers:

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH) said on Sunday that Special Counsel Jack Smith tried to find ways to target conservative organizations during the Obama era-IRS scandal.

Jordan said on Fox Business on Sunday that he and Rep. Darrell Issa's (R-CA) 2014 report looking into the IRS's targeting of conservative tax-exempt organizations has potentially troubling context for the Special Counsel investigation into former President Donald Trump.

...

Indeed, in September 2010 -- Smith, the then-chief of the Justice Department's public integrity section, criminal division -- emailed his senior leadership regarding a New York Times article regarding conservative organizations:

Check out [the] article on front page of ny times [sic] regarding misuse of non-profits for indirectly funding campaigns. This seems egregious to me -- could we ever charge a [18 U.S.C. Section] 371 conspiracy to violate laws of the USA for misuse of such non profits to get around existing campaign finance laws + limits? I know 501s are legal but if they are knowingly using them beyond what they are allowed to use them for (and we could prove that factually)? IRS Commissioner sarah ingram [sic] oversees these groups. Let's discuss tomorrow but maybe we should try to set up a meeting this week. [Emphasis added]

The House Republican report noted that Smith then proceeded to convene meetings on a "possible 501/campaign finance investigation":

Smith convened meetings on a "possible 501/campaign finance investigation."801 At Smith's direction, Pilger arranged a meeting with Lerner and the IRS to discuss the "evolving legal landscape" of campaign-finance law after the Citizens United decision.802 Pilger intended to engage with Lerner about being "more vigilant to the opportunities from more crime in the . . . 501(c)(4) area."803 He also sought to better understand the "practicalities" of criminally enforcing non-profit political speech, such as whether the IRS could review donor lists of 501(c)(4) organizations for potential violations of campaign-finance law.

And his wife is a hyperpartisan p*ssyhat-wearing Full Metal Karen.

The wife of Jack Smith, the newly-appointed special counsel in the investigation into the documents former President Donald Trump brought to Mar-a-Lago at the culmination of his term, made political donations to President Joe Biden and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) throughout the years and helped produce the 2020 Michelle Obama documentary Becoming.

Since 2000 or so the public has been trying to vote in people to change the direction of government. And as of 2022 that has been a complete failure.

Even when the elections weren't stolen via fraud we got GOPers that went along with the Uniparty act (thanks Shrub!) or Trump undermined by the executive branch.

Shut up. I would suggest they shut up. Because what they do doesn't "raise awareness". It doesn't "get the message out". It does let them prance and preen in front of a camera. It does make some people believe, falsely, that somehow - someway - the system is still working.

Hence - Issa and Gowdy do what the GOP always does. They provide cover - a thin veneer of civility - to an otherwise completely corrupt process. They are enablers.

So I'll go with my first answer. I'd prefer Gowdy and Issa drink a nice hot cup of shut the fuck up.

I work in marketing and their apology is bullshit. Someone had to think up and approve the commissioning of these photos to begin with. They'd then be on set to monitor the shoot and provide on-site feedback. A team would then comb through the various images to pick the ones they liked most. Said team would also plan the launch and post of the picture.

183 157 Brazil is interesting. Is there any close correlation, though, between the events there, and here? Serious question.
Posted by: kraken at November 22, 2022 04:52 PM (Vr12I)

A big common denominator is China bought the Brazilian politicians and corporate leadership just as it did in the United States. Bolsonaro actively opposed Chinese domination of Brazil, which is why the US State Department undermined him. Also, the United States intelligence services interfered with elections in Brazil just as they did domestically. Like Trump, Bolsonaro operated under the illusion his country was free and independent rather than just another garbage tier police state.

Even as the United States winds down as a viable polity, it will need to keep its nuclear stockpile because many nations have legitimate reasons to vaporize this country.

Correct. The House alone could return the executive branch to 1812 levels by simply slashing budgets in spending bills that constitutionally must start in the House.

Then they walk away from every negotiation with the Senate and the WH until the entire executive branch has been out of work so long that they've all gone and found work elsewhere. Then you start negotiating.

GOP will not lift a finger to move on any policy that Trump's base wants until he is gone. They will not let us win on anything.

They won't stop there, though. If Trump drops out and puts his resources behind a candidate, that candidate will get hamstrung by the GOP. If Trump doesn't endorse, the GOP will prop up another establishment candidate, destroy anyone who reps our interests, and expect us to fall in line.

My 2 cents anyway.

Posted by: SH (No more Roe) at November 22, 2022 05:06 PM (sX1BW)

=========

It is.

Why don't they do it? 2 major reasons. The first is that there simply isn't the political will in America to do it. "Cut spending but not the stuff that helps me," creates a very large electorate to protect a lot of spending but cutting nothing specific, and we don't even have that attitude anymore. That died about 2012.

The second is that the whole, "give all the lawmaking power to the executive branch" thing has been great for the legislative branch. They get to scream and wail about the evils of all the country without ever having to actually deliver anything.

So, yes. It could be that easy. No, it'll never happen because there are no pressures to make it happen.

Unless Trump or DeSantis fires Smith, Garland and Biden have established a Special Counsel office that will harass Trump until he's dead; then continue investigating Don. Jr. and anyone else in Trump's circle, until the end of time.

This is why Garland's instructions say Smith can investigate whether "...any person or entity unlawfully interfered with the transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election or the certification of the Electoral College on or about January 6, 2021." In other words, go after Trump's family and remaining associates.

That is, in the face of the abject failure of the the parties to look after the deepest concerns of the country.

They wouldn't, and he did, and he won. And for that, for his attempt to save this country when no one else would even try, and for his flashes of success that exposed and humiliated the political establishment, he will be hounded unto death.

I don't know much about Bolsonaro, but I do know that Lula is a really nasty commie cheating piece of crap that should not be elected to class clown let alone premier of a vast nation like Brazil.

The interesting thing about Marbury is that the facts of the case were actually mundane and irrelevant to CJ Marshalls ruling that the SCOTUS were some sort of US Constitution whisperers or the Oracles of the US Constitution, its anointed priests so that only they could interpret the goat entrails of the document to Americans - how that was not nullified by the other branches is beyond me. Jackson fought with these idiots a lot, but in the end, they got to decide a great deal that led to the Civil War - Dredd Scott and other really poorly thought-out stuff.

332 323 Wait! Another $4.5 billion to Ukraine? I'm surprised there are any members of the oligarchy that are still in need.

Republicans will put an end to this, right?
Posted by: Ripley at November 22, 2022 05:41 PM (MxEKc)

Republicans will slow it down some and limit the Ukraine graft to senators and House leadership.

333 Where I vote, you walk in produce your photo ID, they take it, look at you, check the voter roll, hand you a paper ballot which you mark the ovals on. I take it to the machine which processes it, and it is numbered.

Is that what we're calling it these days?

335 @314

>>Geenwald is a big fan of Lula, and really opposed to Bolsonaro. I always need to remember that, when thinking well of him.

Greenwald is a homosexual, Bolsonaro is considered "anti-LGBT."

That is all you need to know about why Greenwald opposes Bolsonaro.

336 Much better, in my opinion. If they didn't agree to putting a kid in the shoot, it's all on the photographer. Although it doesn't exactly say that, does it?

Somebody in the company signed off on it, and let it be published. Blaming the photog is weak sauce; they are just whores.

341 327 This is why Garland's instructions say Smith can investigate whether "...any person or entity unlawfully interfered with the transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election or the certification of the Electoral College on or about January 6, 2021.

It would also mean anyone who said anything in support of Trump or questioning the validity of the election on any platform

Not to pull a Captain Ed, but Bolsonaro put his rival in jail for something. Gleen is super-mad about it, so Lula-Guavero it is.

344 I don't think they'll ever put Trump in prison. Because he's more useful as a bogeyman to trot out whenever they need some ORANGEMANBAD to frighten their captive voters.

347 Trump is not the primary target.

The purpose of the special counsel is to hide all the evidence collected by the House of Representatives and keep Republicans from releasing it.

The second point is to go after all the Republicans who focus on releasing this information. Investigate them, leak, etc.

The third purpose is to go after Trump.
