Since they also look like cute little fuzzy- wuzzie plush toys creates confusion in peoples'

With one or two exceptions, she will not allow anyone outside of the family to pet her (the exceptions are a couple of people who knew her as a puppy). We have to warn people who come over, even if she seems friendly, even if she comes over to you, or lays down next to you, do NOT try to pet her. The moment she realizes your hand is anywhere near her, she's up and snarling.

99 With one or two exceptions, she will not allow anyone outside of the family to pet her (the exceptions are a couple of people who knew her as a puppy). We have to warn people who come over, even if she seems friendly, even if she comes over to you, or lays down next to you, do NOT try to pet her. The moment she realizes your hand is anywhere near her, she's up and snarling.
Posted by: No One of Consequence at November 22, 2022 08:16 PM (uPgE/)

No offense, but if you have a dog that is allowed to come up to visitors, I'd rather you just let me establish my relationship with the dog. If it's not going to bite, I don't care about the snarling. It'll stop, eventually.

The reason it does that with everyone is that it doesn't know not to. I'd like to be the one to teach it not to.

108 my favorite rat terrier story:
when the boys were just pups we had a chickenwire pen in the yard for them ... one early morning I came out, puppy in each arm, put them over the fence, then noticed the squirrel that was in there collecting puppy kibble about the same time they did ... squirrel took off running, bashed headfirst into the fence, 2 puppies who had just realized their mission in life on him like white on rice; backflipped, took off running the other way, bashed into the fence again, repeat it all a third time; this time the squirrel finally got enough jump going to clear the chickenwire ... and for the rest of his life woke up sweating from dreams about little black&white dogs!
LOL to the max!

150 Not sure what the black hockey player discussion was above, but yes there have been/are (?) several black NHL players. Just saw an AHL game Friday, Grand Rapids team had a black player.

First black NHL player ever was Willie O'Ree, who was the fan favorite of the old WHL San Diego Gulls*, and stayed in the area for years (bought hockey sticks from him at a local sporting goods store back in the day, very personable guy). He was incredibly *fast* and exciting as a player. His number is the only one retired and hanging in the arena where the current incarnation of the Gulls play.

One of the best/most revealing little items. In the newspaper (Boston Globe?) story on his debut with the Bruins back in the 60s, in which of course the big deal was his being first black player in an NHL uniform, he was asked directly about this. His response was pretty much "well yeah I guess that's true, but to me the big deal is getting to play, not really focused on that part". How far society has fallen from that.

* back then they introduced each player individually before the game - the roar for Willie started early, by the time he skated out to the blue line, couldn't hear the announcer

177 AZ

The race for State Mine Inspector received 1,674,717 votes for Paul Marsh, a Republican who ran unopposed.

This is more votes than any other statewide candidate received.

So that about 6 or 7 races down the ticket!

Just wondering if this rather significant story had even merited a mention in the cartoonish propaganda for retards that now passes for "news" in the US.

258 We were invited to my nieces for TD this year. She lives just down the street from our old place. So, four out of my five sons will be traveling to get there and we got in town today. My Brother (niece's Dad) and all of his other children and their kids will be there also.

We may go look for a ham tomorrow to take. It should be a blast with a cast of thousands.

264 I actually work more when I'm working from home. If I have to spend an hour and a half commuting (total), I really don't feel like doing anything but relaxing when I get home. Working from home, I can take a little break and get back to it, and typically put in at least an hour extra of work that would have been wasted commuting.

269 We should have a voting age of 18 and use the purple thumb approach. Military serving abroad, expatriates, and shut ins should be able to apply for absentee ballots.

We live on n a country were you can join the infantry at 17, but can’t buy a can of dip for four more years. Pot is legal in half the states, but buying cigs at the supermarket reminds one of the opening of the tv show Get Smart.

Voting should be so hard that it forces someone to decide they want to vote, and then do it.

270 >>The commuting is becoming economically problematic for me. Thanks FJB. On the other hand, we are a small firm and everyone gets along famously. We actually enjoy being and working together in a "live" environment.

I think a lot of it has to do with the nature of the work. I've always been in business sales which by its nature means being on the road so being in the office was unproductive time for me.

And when I have to spend a good percentage of the time in different time zones and different countries the last thing I want to do is spend my time around here in an office no matter how much I like the people I work with.

290 I am shocked that a jury in L.A. found that the NCAA was not liable for the death of a USC player who played 40 years ago and died from heart disease and acute cocaine toxicity and therefore his widow entitled to a $55M judgement she claimed she deserves because CTE was found in his post mortem. Jury agreed with NCAA that forty years ago, very little was known about concussions and CTE wasn’t discovered until 2005. When do CA juries ever turn down a chance to award big claims? I handled WC claims in CA filed by players from all the professional sports leagues for alleged injuries from 20 to 40 years ago . Statue of limitations to file a claim was one year but CA said these players weren't properly notified of it so the statue was tolled. Why would Green Bay put up a notice about California WC ? It was and is ridiculous .
