Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT - Pepsi About to Receive First Tesla Semis (Subsidized at $40k Per Unit By US Taxpayers); Severe Head Injury to High School Girl Spiked By “Trans” Volleyball PlayerTesla Inc is starting Semi electric commercial truck production and PepsiCo Inc will get the first deliveries on Dec. 1, the electric vehicle maker's chief Elon Musk tweeted on Thursday. Back in 2017, PepsiCo reserved 100 of Tesla's semi electric trucks as it sought to reduce fuel costs and fleet emissions.Well if Tesla is willing to use its capital for research and development, and if Pepsi is willing to put up its money to get the product launched, then the marketplace can sort out whether there is a functional use for this product, and if the technology is ready. If only… The truck is expected to cost $180,000, although it would qualify for a tax break of up to $40,000 under a U.S. subsidy program approved by the Senate. Our government’s reckless spending has created the runaway inflation that is destroying family budgets and making the basic necessities of life unaffordable for millions of Americans. So aren’t you glad to know that you as a taxpayer are subsidizing over 20% of the cost of this green PR-stunt for Elon Musk? As you vote tomorrow, remember that our current Senate believes that taking money from your wallet to subsidize Tesla and Pepsi is a better use of your income than leaving that money in your wallet for you to spend. A girls' high school volleyball player in North Carolina recently suffered severe injuries to her head and neck after a trans opponent spiked a ball into her face. Early last month, Hiwassee Dam High School competed against Highlands High School in a girls' volleyball tournament. During the game, an unnamed biological male playing for Highlands spiked a ball over the net and hit an unnamed Hiwassee Dam player directly in the face. The girl is still said to be experiencing long-term concussion symptoms, such as vision problems, and has not been cleared to return to play either by a physician or a neurologist.A great many feminists, along with much of the American left, are OK with this. And let’s face it, polite Republicans who fear being called “transphobic” are also complicit if they won’t speak in opposition to men invading women’s sports (and women’s dressing rooms.) Because there is clearly an absence of leadership in North Carolina to protect its schoolgirls, the local school board has chosen to take action by itself to protect its girls. It has pre-emptively forfeited future matches against the school that allows a “trans” biological male to injure opposing girls on the volleyball court. As a result of her injury, the Cherokee County Board of Education voted 5-1 to cancel all future volleyball games against Highlands High School, citing a "safety issue." Cherokee board member Joe Wood said that "a coach of 40 years said they’d never seen a hit like this. That was really what sealed the decision, at least on my part." Fellow board member Jeff Tatham added that the ball had allegedly been traveling at 70 mph when it struck the girl's face. "I don’t know if that’s faster than normal, but it seemed like it was coming off very fast, abnormally, especially fast," Tatham said. "It not only hit her in the face, then the ball came off of her face with enough force to then go back through the net."Allowing men to physically abuse women in the name of “compassion” for transgenderism is a cultural sickness that must be stopped. If you don't like who's in there, vote 'em out Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

What do you want to bet the girl that was badly injured by the trans player had rainbow triangles all over her TikTok page?
Viewed objectively, in most areas it is more danger for an individual woman to stand up against trannies then it is to have them steal your scholarship. And if you try to organize to stop them the full weight of the government will be used against you. So for now in some ways more tranny stupidity is the best thing - make people see it is more dangerous to let the status quo continue then to fight it. If there was an opposition party the tranny rapist in VA that got Youngkin elected would be one of the constant things the GOP would have been talking about since then... Do you support the idea of a physically mature male slamming a volleyball into a teenage girl’s face at 70-mph?
++++ No, I don't. The schools do, however, and so do the athletes. This is a battle, I think, that the women are going to have win themselves. They have recourse: strike. Don't play. "If you want to put me up against (or play on the same team as) a tranny, we won't play. These games won't happen. We stay on that bench until you fix this." That would probably end this in about six months as athletic programs continues bleeding revenue and achieving nothing and their communities and player families get furious about it. Or the athletic programs die, another scalp collected by the trans movement. But this is a fight they have to fight themselves. Yes, I will be careful with things like school board elections, but the athletes themselves are the ultimate in grass-roots activism in this case. Tesla is the only outfit that has a possibly workable plan for electric delivery vehicles AFAIK. I read, probably here, that Tesla plans to have quick change battery packs for them. Just swap out the pack so the vehicle is not sitting idle the whole time it takes to recharge. So, minor bit of credit. Tesla at least has something that might make the vehicles workable with the 22.5% subsidy. I don't think any other outfit even has that.

I hate to say it, but the only way these people will learn is through pain. Good, old fashioned physical pain. And maybe not even then. The tranny obsession has driven so many people bat-shit insane that maybe not even having their daughters injured, beaten, abused, raped, and even killed by these freaks will drag them into the light. But pain is necessary for the process to even start.

He also claims the issue of a semi only doing 35mph or so up a grade will become less of a problem with his truck. I can see a lot of issues currently encountered with semis being solved by electric power, but, I remain skeptical.

If battery swapping becomes the norm, then the only way I see to make it work is that you don't own the battery at all. The purchase price of the car will not include the battery, and the battery will be either leased or paid for on subscription every time you swap. The owners of those hugely expensive batteries will not want to play Battery Lottery with each swap. On a propane tank, there's a willingness to do that because a propane tank isn't *that* expensive. An EV battery, on the other hand, is a major capital cost. I could see swapping being the way it works, but not if the car owner is also the battery owner. My son played volleyball in high school, was an outside hitter (primary scorer). We live in socal, a hotbed for volleyball. He could hit the ball MUCH harder than female players, from a much higher point, meaning there was no chance of blocking it. In college he would practice with DI women players who were as tall as him (he's 6'2") and he would have to hold back his jumps so they would have a chance to get a hand on the ball. The girls told him he was hitting the ball significantly harder than their competition, so it was good practice for them.

The battery swapping thing I read was that it was for semi trucks. It 'could' work for something like a pepsi or Walmart distribution center, especially if the fleet purchased from Tesla came with enough extra batteries and charging stations. I'm not claiming EV trucks are a good idea generally, just that what I read was the Tesla approach might make them workable to exist in niche areas, much like electric cars are ok as a 2nd or 3rd car that is just the commuter vehicle for some folks.

They can't even agree on the *charging* interface right now, let alone the battery pack. And the form factor is a problem. To allow for quick swapping, the car has to accommodate that. And to make them quickly swappable, the battery shape and size is a big problem and also has downstream effects on the shape and size of the car. With a cross-vendor swappable battery, the constraints are probably unacceptable because it will make vehicle design much more limited. I could see in-vendor swapping schemes that could work, though. If batteries are swappable, how do the insurance companies cover that?
If you have a fire after a battery swap, who gets to cover the cost? I could see one of those very heavy batteries being damaged during the swap process. And if you don't have the original battery you started out with, what about warranties? A replacement battery is mega bucks but how can they charge you for it if it's not original equipment? Agree but right now there is no incentive for vendors to do so. They are too busy gorging on subsidies and rent-seeking that favors being the Big New Thing (even if it's pure PR). If EV companies had to compete on a level playing field, they would already be trying to formulate standards -- because if they didn't, they'd all go broke. But that process ain't gonna happen when garbage companies like Rivian have billion-dollar market caps despite never having sold any real products.

Posted by: Barney from PBS at November 07, 2022 11:06 AM (2waQ7) The problem with electric vehicles is weight, specifically the weight of the battery. Some models of Tesla car weigh about 6000 pounds, and as much as 40% of that is battery. So 40% of the electricity you pay for is used to haul around the storage medium. I drive a Suburban. It weighs around 6000 pounds. It has a 50 gallon fuel tank that weighs about 40 pounds empty, and about 350 pounds full. So, with a full tank, 6% of the vehicle's weight is fuel and tank, so only 6% of the energy I pay for is used to haul that energy and its storage medium around. And even that small fraction diminishes as the fuel in the tank is consumed. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 07, 2022 11:54 AM (Oe28M) 368

TESLA will come up with a fully automated system for battery replacement. No human will be involved. That will be the only way it is done. The vehicle will have to be designed for this battery swap ability. That will not be a trivial problem but quite doable.

You are presuming that it isn't designed to be swapped.
Even if it was modular so you, for example, swap the bottom sled off the truck, its going to take special equipment and expense and significant time to do. The batteries are literally a layer across the bottom of the vehicle, they cannot be swapped out quickly and easily because they weigh so much and how they are set up. Speaking of insanity, trying to run a modern industrial economy on batteries is just plain nuts. Batteries are a terrible way to store energy. Yet somehow, we as a nation have become committed to this craziness. If the new Congress wants to save money, start by repealing the subsidies for battery-powered vehicles.

380 Their sizes are (mostly) standardized, but the layout is not beyond the expansion slot locations. Headers for things like fans differ wildly. Front-panel connectors (for your power light, power button, etc.) don't have the same pin block. Hooking up front panel switches and lights is a pain in the ass because they're all individual connectors. Why are they not in a nice big, chunky pin block that's easy to plug in? Because the pin ordering isn't standard.

Just a fyi re swapping/changing batteries: it ain't as easy as it seems. We run a fleet of hybrid Toyotas with supposedly swappable batteries. In theory, as one battery pack dies -- and they do die -- you can swap in a new one.
Two main problems: (1) the replacement battery packs are so expensive that at the time of the replacement, the cost is probably 75% of what the entire car is worth. And (2) the swap almost never goes smoothly. It's not like putting new batteries in a flashlight. It's almost like doing an organ transplant where there's a real chance the new organ (the battery) doesn't "take" to the body. I don't know why this should be, but it is. The college I went to didn't have an official men's vball team so we had to form a club and play USVBA. The women's vball team, an actual NCAA team, was incredibly gracious to us and allowed us to use facilities and equipment whenever we needed. That being said, she got right up in face when she came in before one practice where we were mixed in with the gals and doing a little light scrimmaging...on the women's net (roughly half a foot shorter than men's). Our guys weren't pulling any punches on the hits and, frankly, playing on a women's net in volleyball is like playing on a 9' net in basketball when you're used to the real deal. The reason she was so pissed? Because she was afraid one of our hitters was going to hurt one of her girls. And she was right. Not only do the spikes go MUCH faster and harder, but with the lower net, that puts them at face level for the blockers and the taller, more athletic men to hit down at a much more agressive angle.
When all of this started a couple of years ago, this exact problem is the one I mentioned to my wife and friends. And here we are. Posted by: Scott M at November 07, 2022 12:45 PM (vtKAA) 450
They do street interviews with these stupid garden tools, and these slags don't believe there is a physical difference between men and women. They think that a woman can do anything that a man can do, if she trains hard enough. That means there are lessons to be learned from interacting with men in sports, even if it's men in dresses. Let the trannies continue to destroy them, until they figure it out. Then when the young women, as a whole, cry for change then give it to them.

Sorry to be late to this discussion.
Will the Semi actually work? I'm pretty confident, but my opinion doesn't matter because we will find out for real in a month. But Tesla has been driving prototypes around for years, and Pepsi was allowed to take prototypes and test them. If Tesla is blowing smoke I don't know how Pepsi couldn't figure out the trick. Note that if it does work, Pepsi and others want as many Semis as they can get, ASAP. The cost of diesel is bad so these things will pay for themselves really fast in fuel cost savings. About the $40,000 subsidy: I think it's a bad idea. It's part of the so-called "Inflation Reduction Act" and I don't think the Dems did the math on how much they are spending. And Tesla doesn't need the money. About battery swaps: Tesla has no such plans. A Tesla "Megacharger" can charge a Semi in about half an hour. This requires about 1.5 megaWatts of electricity. (My house has 200 kW service so that's like 8 houses pulling max load.) If the local grid can't handle it, the solution is to install a Tesla "Megapack" battery to back up the Megacharger.
