RE: Kari Lake's "hot mike" moment
I haven't read the earlier thread all the way through, but has anyone commented on the best part of what she said? She describes the Phoenix New Times as "a rag used for selling marijuana." But her co-anchor talks over the second half of her statement, "And it used to be a rag used for selling sex." Meaning, before the Smart Phone Era, every alternative newspaper had escort ads, "massage" ads, and personal ads. You know, the kind of personal ads made fun of in Annie Hall, "Thirtyish academic wishes to meet woman who's interested in Mozart, James Joyce, and sodomy." Regarding the Kari Lake clip, Mark Hemingway says "Setting aside her politics, I'm struggling to think of a politician of the last 30 years anywhere near as skilled as her. (And no, Obama doesn't come close, he has his gifts -- but he almost never had to face any hostile questions.)".
I assume since he said 30 years that he's referring to BJ, but I don't think he was nearly as skilled. He too had a supine, bootlicking media. Posted by: Archimedes at November 03, 2022 10:07 PM (eOEVl) Posted by: Steve Carell at November 03, 2022 10:07 PM (ftFVW) 64

I had a good day today. Got the snowblower fired up, and augered away most of the drifts from yesterday's blizzard. Got two vehicles started and moved.
Drove into town for mail and groceries; just before reaching the stop sign at the end of the gravel, came across a small Chevy car with two guys in it, wrapped in blankets (it was all of 13 degrees F out). Stopped and asked if they needed help. Fuel line had split on the car. I went home, got my tow strap, and towed them across the highway, and another two blocks to the gas station. They could go inside, warm up, and get coffee. My good deed for the day. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 03, 2022 10:12 PM (wj3ZK) Posted by: Shred21 at November 03, 2022 10:12 PM (JWQOY) 86

I looked up the actual "Longcat." Turns out its name was Nobiko, it lived in Japan, and it was in fact very long, measuring 26 inches from head to toe. (Approximately, I had to convert from stupid metric. Foreigners.)
The picture that spawned the meme was taken way back in 2006, which is way earlier than I thought. Sadly, Nobiko died in September 2020 at age 18. Another reason to hate that stupid year. Posted by: Dr. T at November 03, 2022 10:12 PM (tp+tP) 88

Oregon is vote-by-mail, and does a daily tally of ballots received.
Oregon is only a blue state because while the rest of the state usually votes Republican, the county that Portland is in (20% of the state) votes at North Korean levels for Democrats. This has to be absolutely terrifying for the Democrats: For Portland's county: There are now 118,276 ballots returned. On this same day in 2018, there were 167,935. In 2018 Election Day was Nov 6th meaning if you’re comparing calendar days only, 2018 had an extra 2 days of votes by this point. Posted by: Joe XiDen at November 03, 2022 10:16 PM (ZTQ4k) 111

84 I had a good day today.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 03, 2022 10:12 PM (wj3ZK) So, 2 and a fraction blocks from a gas station? My good deed for the day= helped translate medical reports of a chest CT for our neighbor and good friend who was found to have numerous tiny lung nodules. No firm diagnosis, but she fears it may be cancer. Helped her understand the likely coming sequencing of further testing to achieve a firm diagnosis and that there are other possibilities besides cancer. She was thankful for the calmly provided info. Of course her NP and FP doc who saw her managed to freak her out and didn't explain anything other than "go see a pulmonologist if you can find one."

Before Trump's endorsement DeSantis wasn't even winning the Republican primary for governor in FL. Without that endorsement and Trump's support there might never have been a Governor DeSantis who only won his race by a handful of votes over a gay crackhead. And it's Trump endorsed candidates, the 300 election deniers Biden was whining about last night, who are scaring the shit out of the left not the GOPe candidates. Trump might not be the nominee in 2024 but it's ludicrous to suggest he didn't create the political environment that we are in today that is giving us a chance to take the country back. And we’re looking at your warnings that it takes SOOOOOO long to count votes, and it might be weeks after, and going to the shed and inventorying our agricultural implements.
The proper response to this, the second some election official says this is to 1) Arrest and imprison all of the people involved in counting. 2) Impounded the ballots. 3) Recount the already counted ballots with election officials from other locales in the state. 4) Have each not yet counted ballot reviewed to see if the ballot can be verified to have been correctly cast and have a chain of ownership. If not, burn it - and each of those election officials from #1 will be charged with one count of voter fraud for each ballot burned. 5) Finally count the uncounted ballots and produce a total. Give someone a job and expect it done, report back to me. He didn't understand how DC worked. And he didn't have anyone he could trust. I'm not sure he wouldn't make the same mistake again. He got some things done but he was naive enough to think that he could give an order and expect it done. His senior military told him to basically f off, his own party treated him like a retarded brother, most of his cabinet choices were either idiots or swamp creatures. He is responsible for making the covid mess even worse because he trusted people who hated him. He said he would drain the swamp but what he did that was one of his crowning achievements was ripping the mask off the swamp creatures and allowing us to see them for what they really are.

Posted by: Zettai at November 04, 2022 12:02 AM (SLeLQ) I've chosen my fantasy team, and it's a bit different. Trump picks Rick Grenell to be his VP, just to blow Every Leftist's Mind. At the end of his term, Rick Grenell resigns his seat and is appointed to the Supreme Court, after Justice Sotomayer sadly chokes to death on a twinkie. The ticket in 2028 will be DeSantis/Lake. They run things til 2036, at which point Lake takes over til 2044. And after that, who knows - maybe Barron Trump will be ready to give it a try. I disagree that Trump made the covid situation worse. Trump guided the country well through the worst of the pandemic even with the pharmaceutical companies and the Faucis of this world standing in the way. It was after the 2020 election fraud that the blue state governors ramped up their tyranny on the people and made things worse.

Over at HA, David Strom has a piece where he discusses the so-called historian hyperventilating about Democrats losing, and he then asks "The entire establishment has gone absolutely insane over this election, and it cannot be simply that they know it will stall their agenda. No president has much of an agenda after his first midterms, so no great loss. Biden passed his hideous, economy-destroying bills already. So what is the big deal?"

Dr. Larsen there, I remember fondly, spent a whole lecture telling us how "SETI is bullshit". Somebody brought it up, and it one was on his pet peeves. So, he just forgot the intended lecture for that day, and launched on SETI. On the blackboard, he showed the concept of signal to noise, and the signal levels vs distance. It was clear, that unless some alien civilization somewhere was intentioinally beaming signals right at us, and with ungodly power levels, we wouldn't see anything but noise. Another fond memory of studying at Dr. Larsen's knee there. This class was, for undergraduates a 400 level course, and for graduate students, a 600 level course. There were about 3 or 4 of us undergrads there, and the rest were all graduate students, total of maybe 10 - 15 students. Big assignment, a week's worth. Show you work. Well, after Dr. Larsen had reviewed and graded our work, he had a long talkin' to the graduate students, telling them how they ought to be ashamed. Us undergraduates did better by a good bit than they did, and he just was ashamed. He said, hell, I gave a couple of problems there that I didn't think the undergrads would even be able to try! I was gonna give them full credit if they just even attempted. But they got it right -- well, it could've been more elegant -- but they did it! And you just fucked it all up. The grading of these here multi level, grad vs undergrad courses worked that way. The 600 level were held to a higher standard. >> Relativity requires a Special Theory.

I'm about to call it a night. But one more, thing, Re Uncle Al's Magnus Opus/Yanet Garcia's ass. The latest on "The Confrontation of General Relativity with Experiment" concludes this: https://tinyurl.com/2cyeo6zr Furthermore, the predictions of general relativity are fixed; the pure theory contains no adjustable constants so nothing can be changed. Thus every test of the theory is either a potentially deadly test or a possible probe for new physics. Although it is remarkable that this theory, born 100 years ago out of almost pure thought, has managed to survive every test, the possibility of finding a discrepancy will continue to drive experiments for years to come. These experiments will search for new physics beyond Einstein at many different scales: the large distance scales of the astrophysical, galactic, and cosmological realms; scales of very short distances or high energy; and scales related to strong or dynamical gravity. PPsh-41s are nice, another sub gun didn’t recognize, hope the firearms movie database will have something. M2 on the pintle mount on the sub was only obvious inappropriate weapon, besides the sub of course, but Golf class boats weren’t available in the mid 60s. Uncle Al's "ephemerides" of the earth-moon system continue to be within the limits of measurement. As of now, the Moon is within 2 cm of where Uncle Al says it should be, as measured from Erf. Mr. Newton, although a big fuckin' deal of gravity, don't come close. Here's the funny deal. Uncle Al's gravity is still purely classical, continuous, and not quantum. All attempts at theoretically quantitzing gravity have failed. No error in what Uncle Al predicts, vs what can measured has been found. Uncle Al *should* be wrong. A quantum theory of gravity should hold, and lead to a unified field theory of everything. Ain't no luck so far, though. I am reading about Elon's Mars plans. Ambitious, to say the least. One big criticism is they are focusing on getting to Mars, transport, and not the problems of long term human life support. Two big problems for long term human habitation of Mars: radiation, 1/3 g. I don't think the 1/3 g is a thing. Are you thinking commuting? I'm not. Kind like going to the New Wolrd, isn't it? As to the rads...what's the dose rate? I am thinking it's pretty easy to shield habitats. No idea about going out on the surface in a suit. What do you know?
