  • Everyone going to the World Cup (a soccer thing) needs a burner phone. (NRK)

The apps you are required to install to enter the country and attend soccer games are, well, problematic, in the traditional sense that they have and/or cause problems:
When you download these two apps, you accept the terms stated in the contract, and those terms are very generous. You essentially hand over all the information in your phone. You give the people who control the apps the ability to read and change things, and tweak it. They also get the opportunity to retrieve information from other apps if they have the capacity to do so, and we believe they do.
Always carry a burner phone when entering an authoritarian country, which is to say, a country, and always mount a scratch monkey.

Pope seen ice skating on the Tiber.

The Pope is a poopyhead. Also, the plot thickens.

Look, y'all, meth works just as well as adderall -- speed is speed, and these two drugs are first cousins;

or so I've heard. Do y'all know that the US Air Force used to issue amphetamines to pilots to take in the case of fatigue or extended missions?

Air Force Confirms Gulf War Pilots Used Amphetamines -- AP News
April 11, 1992 TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - The Air Force has confirmed that some of its fighter pilots used amphetamines to stay awake during the Persian Gulf War, a newspaper reported. "They did take them..."

11 Good morning. I usually catch-up on the Tech News when I get up in the morning, but don't usually catch it live. Couldn't sleep this morning.

No Adderall? I'm not sure about numbers, but could the current world's batshit craziness be attributed to a massive withdrawal syndrome event?

Posted by: Biergood at October 15, 2022 04:30 AM (FQWHA)

12 Well, off to work. No Adderall for me. I just freebase coffee.

I'll be posting from the 5 sided nut house today, when time permits. Later...

13 My mother was a schoolteacher for 4 decades. I think the saddest story I heard from her was that she had kids that clearly were not ADHD whose mother's would get them prescriptions for Ritalin and then the mother would take the Ritalin themselves to lose weight. But meanwhile the kid would get a 504 plan which made accommodations because they were diagnosed ADHD.

14 Also, there was a big deal about metabolic dominance during the GWOT. There were drug cocktails to keep the SF types alert and without sleep. Not sure if they were technically amphetamines or not.

Also, AF was using a sleep apnea drug with B2 crews because they had to fly 23 hour missions.

The snow crab thing is interesting. Because of the brain-washing of 'global warming' they assume the crabs have moved further north and only look there. While in actuality the planet is in a Milankovich cycle where they would have to move about a quarter mile south every year to maintain the same amount of sunlight.

Crazy talk I know, but I like snow crab with drawn butter and I want them to find them.

Posted by: m at October 15, 2022 05:09 AM (RtN13)

18 They're trying to now go "OMG 1 Billion crabs disappeared because of climate change" when what they mean is "we spot tested and only pulled up 50 crabs, instead of 200, and we'll blame climate change when it could really mean they fled across the US fishing boarder into Russian waters, so we can check there."

It's funny how the bureaucrats in an office addres making claims that things are warmer, and there's less ice, when all the fishermen have been sagging there's more ice than ever, so much so it's moving lower down the ocean.

I'm guessing, more than anything, this is just more environmentalist and socialist attempting to destroy ther food supply by lying, so they can get us on that tasty bug diet they all keep pushing.

19 Also if we can commander that Chinese ghost ship, in the name of the Free Official AceofSpades Country of BigBoobia, can we search out the ghost crabs?

20 I seem to remember amphetamines used by airmen in WW2. Here is the wiki entry:
"During World War II, amphetamine and methamphetamine were used extensively by both the Allied and Axis forces for their stimulant and performance-enhancing effects"

Easy to make.

22 NASA reports that that missile they fired at that asteroid to keep it from wiping out civilization sort of worked. Now instead of hitting the ocean, it will make a direct hit on Washington, DC...sort of. In reality they hit the big rock ball and still not sure what happened.
The V2 rocket more or less did something and it will take years of sort it all out. Stay tuned.

23 Fatigue among warriors can jeopardize mission success. Prescribed stimulant medications, in-flight sleep, and self-medication with caffeine can mitigate fatigue. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, pilots flew the B-2 bomber to targets in Iraq from one of two airfields. Sortie durations were long (16.9 h) from one field and very long (35.3 h) from the other. Controversy exists concerning the use of stimulant medication, in part because of a paucity of combat data.

40 FWIW I live in Canada, and the reason for the professional engineer's guilds - er, licensing organizations - is that any professionally licensed engineer can be personally sued if their work product causes loss or harm, in addition to their employer.

I know of no software "engineer" who would ever accept that condition.
