Reports: Musk Has Informed Twitter's Board That He Will Proceed With the Sale At the Original Negotiated Price of $54.20 Per Share For a Total Sale Price of $44 Billion

A lot of reports claiming this, and Musk, who is rarely silent, is not knocking the reports down.

Which sounds a lot like confirmation.

Ugh.

Why do I say ugh?

I did want Musk to buy Twitter.

But I've come to like him and his zany impulsive possibly-hyperactive ways. I liked that he was offended by Twitter's censorship of dissenting viewpoints -- and decided, nearly on a whim, to offer $44 billion of his own money (mostly) to do something about it.

I don't like some of his Trumpian lack-of-discipline and addiction to Twitter -- don't get high on your own supply, Elon! You just get yourself into trouble (like Trump)! -- but I suppose without those things, none of this ever could have happened. You can't have the jackpot without the gambler.

I did want him to buy Twitter -- but only after Twitter came begging to him, offering a nice ten billion discount. Which still would have resulted in the company being overpriced, but at least Musk could have felt satisfied he knocked something off the top.

Here is what I'm going to hate now:

The corporate cons are going to say, "See, what did we tell you? You don't need to do anything about leftwing corporate leviathan monopolies colluding with the F***ING GOVERNMENT and ITS LAW ENFORCEMENT AND NATIONAL SECURITY APARATUS to squelch speech, it can all work itself out if we let the Magic of the Free Market work its wondrous spell!"

Right right right right.

So as regards FaceBook's and Google's ongoing conspiracy with the leftwing government of the United States to deprive American citizens of the their First -- and, what's that now, their Fourth Amendment rights as well (letting the FBI have little sneaky-peak at your mail without a warrant) -- I guess we'll just wait for the next Real-Life Tony Stark with a spare $1 trillion to spend on a tech company (FaceBook and Google are much, much more expensive than Twitter) and a crusading interest in vindicating free speech rights to come along then, huh?

Is that what we'll do, huh? We'll just wait for the next real-life Tony Stark to take money out of his Building Rockets to Go to Mars fund to shift it over to his Drop a Trillion Dollars to Buy One of the Largest Corporations to Ever Exist In History Just to Be Able to Speak Freely on Social Media fund, huh?

How many of those do you think we have floating around, Conservative, Inc.? Got an estimate of how many of those are waiting in the wings, AEI?

And I seem to notice most of the billionaires are in fact extremely leftwing and favor increased social control by a consortium of government, mega-corporations, and wealthy organizations like the WEF. Very few of them are right-aligned or libertarian.

So should we just wait to see how the Battle of Billionaires shakes out? Should we all just pray?

Meanwhile, people are losing followers like crazy. A friend says, "Twitter is finally getting rid of the bots because Musk is coming in and they don't have to cook the books to inflate their user numbers for investors any longer."

Exit Question: Did he move just to complete the transfer of regime before the elections?

I doubt it but if he did, wow. The trial was set to start in a couple of weeks so that is the more likely triggering event.

Still... He could have taken it up to the eve of the trial.

It's pretty amazing just how insane twatter has been for the past 5-6 years. They can have literal child porn, pedo, criminal and terrorists organizing on the "platform", calls for assassinations, murder and genocide, all in complete violation of the TOS, and we get suspended for saying things they don't like.

Oh, another bit of good news is FB may be laying off 1200 people! Seriously, I would hope they'd have been working on their resumes 2 years ago when the brand-new humungous campuses in E Palo Alto shuttered. Something about half a billion in real estate and construction just sitting there should count as a red flag.

I've always found it amazing that E PA is quite literally on the wrong side of the tracks (or the 101) all these decades. And not half a mile away $5M homes. Same with Marin (Dodge) City.

So maybe they saw they were going to lose because of semantics and just gave in?

I assume he's got something in mind, because I doubt he'd spend that much on a goof, especial as we're bracing for a worse rescission, but as of now it's a mystery to even think what it could be, as i think this can't finalize until after the election anyway.

Twitter ruthlessly enforces the Leftist echo chamber - it's what made them so valuable that a chain of billionaires flushed so much money down it with no hope of seeing any ROI, in monetary terms, anyway.

That echo chamber means the regime can hand down the Party line with no opposition in it's media channel, and no chance of its press chimps getting confused by more than one thought at a time running through their tiny brains.

And for those chimps, it provided a warm snuggle blanket of blue checks, and bannings/doxxings for any dirty plebe who questioned their bien pensant mindthoughts. Do you think lazy, dishwater dull mediocrities like Jonah Goldberg get addicted to Twitter because it's challenging?

137 Just restricting who can moderate, delete, ban, or shadowban posts and people on there would be a significant upgrade to the site. Just about anyone who works at Twitter is a moderator.

Then making sure you announce better standards of what is allowed and what is not would help -- but only if they are enforced. No more banning Libs of Tik Tok because they post something you don't like.

140 It was hard enough for me to accept Milpitas and Alviso as areas of interest. But E Palo Alto has been the black area just as Oakland has been in the upper bay.

It's a real shame that they killed the "flavor" of the West side some years back - I'm speaking of Whiskey Gulch. Still in PA, but close enough to E PA to be a semi-ghetto. But damn, there was a kick-ass BBQ there for many years. But, they've priced everyone out and it's now all R&D. I lived in Milpitas for a couple of years when I first got out of college, and commuted to work in PA at 4:30 in the morning. That was the biggest incentive to get my shit together I can think of. I did like La Milpa restaurant though. I think it's still there.

141 If burning twatter to the ground is all Musk accomplishes, it's still a major win in my book. It's his money. He can spend it the way he wants.

142 This makes me think he's wearing the pull-up kakis that look real but just have elastic waste and fake (or velcro) zipper. They have similar that fake buttons and the like. Easy for caregivers and make the patient feel like they're not in pajamas.

Yep, that's where I learned about it - my mom's caregivers asked for these things since my mother considered herself a fashion plate. Cardigans that have fake buttons on the front, etc. All velcro. The people who are arguing that Joe didn't have his pants on backwards "because how did he do the zipper?" aren't aware of these technological marvels of the 21st century.

150 I think Musk will make a big difference, clearly the people that work at Twitter think so. They wouldn't be sobbing uncontrollably if they thought nothing would change.

Elon is VERY committed to Free Speech, he even got a lot of flak for not shutting down RT during the Ukraine war, which is Russian state controlled propaganda.

I think someone linking to an alternative Covid study has a much shot of being heard.

154 >>musk can make money in a lot of ways. It's about preserving the right to speak freely.

From what little I've read and heard about Musk I believe this is a big part of his motivation. I think he also wants to see the US prosper which is good for him both personally and professionally.

And you really are going to want to watch the Bobulinski interview. Covering up his testimony before the election was enough to flip the 2020 election.

161 Wonder if there are rules in the purchase to keep some dye-brained liberal twits from just leaving with a copy of the code and using it to try and prop up a clone of Twitter, with emphasis on trying to steal its userbase on the left side when they are no longer able to cull the right side.

There is movement world wide back to sanity.

Well the EU did pass a 'share and share alike' rule that said all these countries and Poland have to give their gas to Germany. That went over well.

Be interesting to see how the struggle goes.

When they start, all the API calls will be identical to Twitters and that would start a lawsuit that would soon find the stolen source and that would be that. Also it is likely that Twitter has some secret trapdoor methods that would make it even more clear that the code is stolen before that.
