Zelenzky, in a Hot War With Russia, Asks for Accelerated Entry Into NATO;
Also Says He Will Not Negotiate With Russia Until Putin Has Been Regime-Changed

Zeke Miller

@ZekeJMiller

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) -- Ukrainian leader Zelenskyy says his nation is submitting an 'accelerated' application to join the NATO military alliance.

Jack Posobiec XLV

@JackPosobiec

Zelensky has announced Kyiv will hold no negotiations with Russia while Putin is President and that he is applying for full NATO membership today for Ukraine

Michael Tracey

@mtracey

On "Face the Nation" today Zelensky said about Putin's nuclear threat: "I don't think he's bluffing." He then repeated his call for the US to designate Russia a "state sponsor of terrorism" even if this will "make diplomatic negotiations impossible." Does anyone see an issue here

Is this the next step? Is this how the neocon/neoliberal foreign policy establishment makes the War of Vengeance Against Russia for Hacking the 2016 Election, which they promised would never happen, happen?

Will the neocon WWIII cheering section of Conservative, Inc. and NeverTrump, which still believes, along with their leftwing allies, that Russia "hacked our election," and that Donald Trump is a "Russian Agent," applaud?

P.S.: They're also bitter opponents of QAnon for believing the wrong crazy conspiracy theories, the ones not embraced by their leftwing Democrat Twitter palz!

Think of all the extraordinary blogging opportunities they'll get out of a nuclear war with Russia. They can write so many paeans to their manly sitting-on-their-asses virtues and courage before nuclear fires turn out all the lights.

Oh well, I guess we have go to full solemn war against Russia now, seeing as they Subverted the 2016 Election with FaceBook Ads, and just last week, Blew Up Their Own Nord Stream pipelines. (wink.)

Because Putin's end goal has always been the complete conquest of Ukraine.

He's not honoring the Budapest Accords, so there's no sane reason to believe he'd honor any other deal he made.

"I'll pull out before I cum"
"I'll give you a call in the morning"

It is hard to know what people are doing and what they were thinking 80 years later when we have info from both sides (and can pierce through the obvious horseshit.) From inside the rowboat it is much harder.

No city-busting, world ending thing between Russia and the US, but one carefully placed tactical (say 5kt) device on a major Ukraine C2 node, and/or a second on a troop assembly area. No more than two as there is historical precedence for this. It would very likely end the war. No one will be happy about it, not NATO, not Russia and certainly not Ukraine, but it will end the fighting.

That said, I doubt if anyone in this administration could see it that way.

Hilarious!

And, conveniently, highlights the single question that not a single western/NATO/US official or observer can begin to address, without confirming/reminding/revealing the actual background to all this.

"Why was Ukraine not a NATO member already? Why are places nobody can find on a map, like North Macedonia, and countries who can't even police their own borders or territory and will never be able to contribute anything to any alliance, like Albania, members? It's been 30+ years since the USSR. Why was Ukraine not a member years ago?"

85 "War of Vengeance Against Russia for Hacking the 2016 Election"

I don't think that angle is all that important, even if they're milking it; they have the ability to use the media to steer their base to support a war against just about anyone they want to vilify. What we have here is a carefully calculated effort to get Russia to volunteer themselves into being the bad guy. They're the perfect bad guy for this because on an institutional level they really are a bunch of drunken savages and fuckups. I also suspect that this plan to steer them into this - like so many prog efforts - derailed for a bit in 2016. The whole thing has the stink of the same evil genius that gave us the pandemic-to-Great-Reset pipeline and its sophisticated effort to split non-prog opposition and make them into domestic boogeymen. As a scheme, it's a great one; the Russians are twats, the Ukrainian people are empathetic and generally cool dudes, a solid number of conservatives are retarded enough to choose sides poorly, and *CHINA* is plenty willing to whisper into Russia's ear "yeah bro, go for it" and then stab them in the back. The billions exchanging hands in defense spending is also a solid bonus.

110 Prediction:

The "October Surprise" will be that Biden will announce that because of Russia's annexation of occupied Ukrainian territories, and the "Russian" bombing of the Nordstream pipelines, that the United States and NATO will start to directly strike the Russian military in Ukraine (including Crimea).

Putin will be told that if he retaliates against any NATO country, NATO's strikes will escalate to attack Russia generally.

Biden will couple this with a declaration of a "state of emergency", which will involve a major civil liberties crackdown, and Federal control of the upcoming midterm elections.

112 On the whole I think this Ukraine mess is a net positive for the non-left in the West as long as we can manage to not get nuked. It's snapping the military out of a 30 year stupor where they pretended peer conflict and wartime industrial output weren't a thing anymore, while teaching us a ton of effective hobby-industry drone technologies that are going to bite the progs in the ass if/when things ever go hot here at home.

People want to whine about the "spending", but in reality it's mostly a forced refresh of our old vehicle and weapon stocks, and doesn't really move the needle vs domestic money printing.

Posted by: somedood at September 30, 2022 12:16 PM (BbSpR)

113 With Russia's annexation move, this makes perfect sense as a counter to that. I wonder if NATO will agree? With the new leadership in the UK and Italy it will be interesting if that changes anything

Acceptance is not happening Unless NATO want to go to war with Russia

Considering that they're lining things up to justify dropping nukes... They're either gunning for a war, or banking on the West appeasing them. Again.

158 Andrea Bocelli, the Italian operatic singer, is suing New Hampshire-based Private Jet Services Group over breach-of-contract allegations that the firm gave him a noisy, cold private jet with personnel who warned of possible turbulence against his wishes.
Mr. Bocelli, blinded by a soccer injury in his childhood, has heightened hearing sensitivity, and he is particularly
“sensitive to the elevated noise that an older airplane tends to make in flight, with such elevated noise causing him more anxiety,” the lawsuit stated.
For this reason, Mr. Bocelli requires planes with certain specifications before arranging air travel for tours and other purposes.
Mr. Bocelli wanted “a Dassault Falcon 7X and Falcon 8X or, for flights under 4 or 5 hours, a Dassault Falcon 900 EX or EX Easy,
and the Falcon 2000LX,” and that the plane itself, no matter the model, had to be four years old or newer.
There is also a specification that aircrews not mention any turbulence or weather-related complications, so as not to inflamethe singer’s anxiety.

159 Putin says that the annexations are irreversible, because Russia needs to "protect" the population in the annexed territories.

Ukraine has announced that taking any aid from the Russians in the occupied territories, voting in the referendums, or doing anything else in cooperation with the Russians is punishable by a twelve-year prison term.

Ukraine has criminalized the entire population of the occupied territories, so Putin's concern is not so far-fetched.

The gap in time between explosions is covered in the explanation. Basically, the Russians were trying to restart operations, remember Nord 1 was taken off line for repairs supposedly anyway by Russia.

I regard lawdawg's explanations as equally plausible as the sabotage hypotheses because at this time, all we know is both Nordstream pipelines ruptured in the same day, both Russia and the US, perhaps more countries, have the ability to sabotage the pipelines, and that both Biden and State Dept have made past claims that the pipelines would be stopped. If sabotage occurred, the US is the more likely party as it has the most to benefit. If incompetence in maintenance occurred, the Russians are certainly most capable in that area.

His argument is way too rigid, though. The idea that the explosions were 17 hours apart therefore it couldn't have been sabotage is a stretch. Special forces screw things up all the time. Also the explosions could have been intentionally timed that far apart to introduce some deniability. It's not nearly the refutation he's making it out to be.

It is hard to know what people are doing and what they were thinking 80 years later when we have info from both sides (and can pierce through the obvious horseshit.) From inside the rowboat it is much harder.

Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop

An excellent book on this subject is "The German War" by Nicholas Stargardt. He mines letters between soldiers and their families at home from pre-war to the very end to give a good account of "What the German People knew, and when they knew it." And of course what they were feeling about the war.

One yuge takeaway from the book for me was that as early as fall of 1941, every adult German knew for a fact that the Wehrmacht, SS and assorted others were slaughtering the Jews wholesale wherever they found them. And as a matter of national thought, the Germans believed that the massive Allied bombing campaigns against their cities were specifically in retaliation for their slaughter of the Jews.

Just because this was a setup doesn't mean the Russians aren't actually bad guys, or that the Ukrainians deserve this. That's part of why it works so well.

Meanwhile we have a bunch of historical illiterates - some even here - failing to grasp how this is a proxy war between a century old psychopathic authoritarian cult and their Western prodigal prog sons, while the Eastern heretics from the same cult munch popcorn.

But, but, they money! Yes, the money. Oh no. They've spent 3-4 years worth of "oops we lost track of these funds" from State Dept/DoD so far. Or, put into perspective, they've spent roughly TEN DAYS worth of money printing. How are we ever going to recover from this.

234 The obvious tell that Russia intended to "take" all of Ukraine was the use of a comically small force to menace the capital. But of course the plan was already clear, from Russia's consistent position throughout the Minsk process (which Ukraine flagrantly violated without a peep from the western "guarantors") that D & L are Ukrainian territory.

And of course the negotiations in March which proceeded fairly quickly, were very substantive, and of course were based on Ukraine remaining a different country.

All obvious give-aways that Moscow wanted the whole country.

Well A-Dawg drew hundreds of thousands of Berliners to the streets when he took his "invasion" of Paris victory lap. And the initiation of Barbarossa made it look like the 1000 yr Reich was a done deal. But then Stalingrad happened, Italy leaving the Axis, and D-Day. Now A-Dawg's troops had a 3-front war going.
From German troops' memoirs, public sentiment started to turn on them around 1943.

If sabotage occurred, the US is the more likely party as it has the most to benefit. If incompetence in maintenance occurred, the Russians are certainly most capable in that area.

It's also unreasonable to expect the Ukrainians - whom the Russians have attempted to genocide multiple times - to not fucking shoot at them when they do. I don't know why this obvious explanation keeps getting overlooked. This is why the war in Ukraine happened and the previous invasion of Georgia also happened. It's really not a mystery. You can even figure it out by the video up top.

We promised not to expand NATO eastward toward Russia. Putin warned that if we did there would be war and specifically warned not to expand in the former Soviet states of Georgia and Ukraine. We lied or at least hinted that we lied and Putin did what he said he would do.

I forget which outfit had the M&M rider, but their manager finally explained it and it made sense. They had these enormous, extremely elaborate and very heavy sets that required certain prep to be done in the venue. They found that very often, that prep had *not* been done because nobody read the contracts carefully, and this resulted in lost time and money because they had to scramble to get the prep done as well as the erection of the set pieces.

They added the M&M rider because it's something small and buried in the middle of the contract, so they would know at a glance when they walked in if the venue actually read the contract or not, and know whether they had to assume that things weren't up to snuff in preparation and just go deal with it rather than back-tracking after finding nasty surprises.

It makes some degree of sense if true.

And Goebbels' diary details his successful staging of Hitler's triumphal return to Berlin after the French armistice, and the public elation (most thought that was it, the war would be over). He also describes how on June 22, 1941, Berlin was a silent ghost-town. The public reaction was fairly rational. Shock and despair.

Yeah. All true. Unfortunately, if there's one thing certain generations like to root for more than a good football game, its a good war.

And that really is part of it. Certain demographics - in the double digits - just like to see the American flag wherever shit is blowing up. And they hate seeing shit blow up without an American flag.

385 at the risk of Ace considering me "conservative, inc" I will opine here....

As I said at the beginning of this war when Russia first threatened nuclear force, if not naked, expansionist aggression, what is worth fighting a nuclear war over?

Then I asked the question on behalf of the lesser NATO nations. We all know that if the Belgium, UK, France or Germany is attacked, all of NATO will be required to respond. But what of lowly Estonia, Lithuania, Poland?

We already have evidence of how the EU operates when punishing the lesser EU countries with austerity measures; 2 different sets of rules for major European countries and lesser ones. Can we expect the majors in NATO to suddenly behave differently with lesser NATO countries?

At some point, we have to say, "enough with the threats. Let's get it over with."

I think that time is now.

Syphilis, a bacterial disease that shows up as genital sores and can lead to other diseases and even death, showed a huge increase last year. The rate of syphilis cases reached its highest level since 1991, while the total number of cases rose to its highest level since 1948, just three years after World War II. HIV cases also rose 16 percent from 2020 to 2021,The Guardian reports.

Syphilis bottomed out in the U.S. in the late 1990s, with the CDC hoping to fully eradicate the disease. Only years later, syphilis rates would start rising; by 2021, more than 52,000 cases were reported.

Then you're wrong. American Lend Lease, through Murmansk, was pretty much the logistics of the Soviet Army. They hated our tanks, because theirs were better. They hated our planes, because they were too complicated. But they loved our trucks and our food and our fuel and our radios.

Without Lend Lease through Murmansk ? The Soviets would have been exactly what Hitler thought they were. A very large, very immobile force. Easily cut up, the way Germany liked to play the game.

But this? This demonstrates zero interest in actually ending things or finding peace. I don't give a rip if they want to be in NATO because I think NATO is worthless. But I do care that they are refusing to even discuss peace negotiations. That does not indicate someone who wants to fix things. It indicates someone who is a puppet of forces who want eternal war.

517 >>I sincerely believe Trump/Pomeo would have handled this clusterf8ck without giving our fortunes away.

It never would have happened. In fact, it didn't.

People really need to go back and look at the history of NATO and eastward expansion. Just start with the Bucharest NATO Summit in 2008 and look at what happened since.

Bush, Obama and Biden all made overt or subtle moves to include Georgia and Ukraine into NATO and then of course the Maidan coup of 2013. Putin retaliated each time including this latest invasion of Ukraine. Putin may be a thug but he did what he said he would do if we kept pushing. The only one in that period who didn't was Trump.

And the neocons hate him for it.

With Trump and Pompeo, this war wouldn't be going on. Putin quite firmly set his "red lines" after the second Western coup in Ukraine in 2014: eastern expansion of NATO and color revolutions in his sphere of influence. We can argue whether those red lines are just or reasonable, but he was quite clear about them.

Then what does the Biden administration do in the autumn of last year? First was an attempted revolution in Kazakhstan that the Russians invaded to snuff out. I don't think it's certain that this was an attempted color revolution, but it has a lot of elements of that playbook. Shortly after that, we had Secretary Austin talk publicly about NATO's "open-door policy" for Ukraine. Both red lines were violated in the space of three months, and neither would have occurred with Trump and Pompeo at the helm.

The third factor - ability to finance it - would have been much less compelling under Trump's max-energy policy that was keeping the price of oil a helluva lot cheaper than it has been under Biden.

First, I cannot conceive of any end state that does not include Russia occupying the areas that just voted to join Russia. I could conceive of Russia "buying" them, like we bought the Gadsden Purchase from Mexico after conquering the Southwest in 1848.

Second, we have serious, significant, great power interests in common with Russia, including the functioning of the world economy and energy, as well as not forcing them into alliance with China, Iran, etc. The space thing is minor by comparison, but we continue to work together with them right now. The opium that comes out of Afghanistan primarily moves through Russia and the Russians are doing great work in trying to stop it. We are not at war with them, and the world needs a well-functioning Russia to maintain balance of power.

568 I really doubt Lend-Lease was material to the Soviet resource situation by June '42, when Operation Blue launched. Or even by the time of the Stalingrad defeat. Real impact wasn't until later.

####I recommend this book - https://tinyurl.com/ycx6snwk. In retrospect, lend-lease was an abomination. FDR was so in thrall to Stalin that he diverted resources from US forces in the Pacific and the U.S. public. He gave the Soviets factories and IPO which gave the USSR extended life. Probably no coincidence those 50 year life factories and the USSR expired at very close to the same time.

The real reason for the snit our betters are having is that they got their first taste of what they thought was their new, smart way of destroying nations with less fighting - financial service sanctions, blocking payments of debt, all this new power of the bucks rather than the boring old army and navy and it blew up in their faces.

Turns out Russia just made their own payment systems and came out just fine. So they doubled down with gas/oil/food sanctions which they at first planned to avoid, assuming like idiots that Russia would sell them oil and gas while they attacked them and do nothing.

Now they are at the point of blowing up their own way of getting energy just to keep from admitting their initial stupidity.

Chisel it in stone. Russia bombed a civilian caravan in Zaporizhzhia today. Death toll in the dozens. That's just the latest civilian attack like that. This is happening all the time. None of you have a clue about that. Russia Ukraine basically the same durrr. Really well informed lovers of liberty, sons of democracy you are. Lead your morons onward Ace

577 You do remember how holier-than-thou we were because of a few missiles in Cuba. We are putting Putin in a similar position as JFK.

This kind of attempt at equivalence is even dumber than the late-hit troll

578 xyu,
Try to figure out that mindlessly tagging your weak, half-arguments with the vapid exclamation, "durrr", does not help them.
Duh.

579 I am making $50 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning $11,000 a month by working on a laptop, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just
using this website.. www.Profit97.com

580 I know the Yahoos here who are against the Western Globalists believe ruSSia and Putin are the "Good Guys" (like TheLibertyDaily website) JUST BECAUSE ruSSia and Putin oppose the Western Globalists. They think "MY ENEMY'S ENEMY IS MY FRIEND"....so Putin and his ruSSia....MUST be the Good guys and we should automatically hate Zelensky. This is CARTOONISH LOGIC and a BIG MISTAKE!!

Putin and ruSSia are just as bad if not worst than the Western Globalists.....AND for the LONGEST TIME have worked with the Western Globalists. For example, Putin COLLABORATED with the Western Globalists in PUSHING the PLANDEMIC on his own people!! Putin is ALSO a student of Klaus Schwabbs World Economic Forum!!

And Putin right now is treating his people like CRAP and is CANCELLING and PERSECUTING ANYBODY who protests against him. ISN'T this the reason why we hate the Western Globalists? Yet Putin is WORSE than the Western Globalists. And his ruSSia is the size of a MONSTER because of ruSSia's MONSTER sized appetite for other nations' territories!

ruSSia also STARTED WW2 (to STEAL chunks of land from Poland and other nations) along with it's former best friend Nazi Germany

581 I was being generous Bach. Durr is more than many of these asinine ideas deserve.

But big bad NATO is to blame anyway, right? Not Putin. Not Russia, with its generational bloody track record. Poor, dear, always-aggrieved Russia.

And the 97% "yes" vote on the """referendums""" was not a sham either, was it? Democracy in action, beautiful. Ffs

582 You know.....the Green Commie Nazis have been pretty open about the fact that they would be happier if 9/10ths of the people died. And their super bug engineered from SARS and MERS went fizzle and couldn't even kill 1 in 10 let alone 9 in 10. Whatever hope they had of using something like a poison pill vaccine evaporated with the COVID inoculation. Yeah they would kill a lot of people, who turn out to be their supporters.

So how do you get rid of all these people so Gaia stops crying? Nuclear war seems like an all around solution for great reset, population reduction, establishment of the totalitarian global superstate.

They probably already have their bomb shelters picked out.

583 If anyone replaces Putin it will be either Medeved or Kadirov.

Not sure which one will just nuke Kiev and Lvov, and which one will just send in the whole fucking Russian Army.

584 Medvedev, sorry.

585 Zelensky will be lucky if he isn't regime-changed first, in order to end this stupid war. And by his own people, if they have any sense.

586 Simple, it will entrench the Deep State and Neo Cons idea that they can intervene in ANY foreign problem, by spending enough US Money.... even if they destroy the economy doing it.

While printing money for any reason should be discouraged, i don't think helping Ukraine is going to wreck the economy. Saving money by not helping has consequences. Helping Ukraine will look cheap if Putin decides he wants Poland next.

587 "First, I cannot conceive of any end state that does not include Russia occupying the areas that just voted to join Russia."

LOL, "voted." I don't know where you're getting your news, but that vote looked a heck of a lot like State Farm Arena and Wayne County in 2020.

"I could conceive of Russia "buying" them, like we bought the Gadsden Purchase from Mexico after conquering the Southwest in 1848."

"Second, we have serious, significant, great power interests in common with Russia, including the functioning of the world economy and energy,"

Without their oil/LNG Russia has the GDP of Wal Mart.

588 "as well as not forcing them into alliance with China, Iran, etc."

That alliance existed prior to Ukraine invasion. Russia is selling Utah uranium to Iran to build their a-bomb with. Thanks, Hillary!

"We are not at war with them, and the world needs a well-functioning Russia to maintain balance of power."

Iran builds its bomb with Russian help. Russian hackers jam up pipelines. Russia pays US environmentalists to handcuff themselves to oil infrastructure and then people buy their oil instead of ours. While they didn't help Trump, buying a few FB ads made things easier on them. This may not be a war, but they sure are hitting us. A well functioning country doesn't invade their neighbors without reason, either.
