Daily Tech News 27 September 2022

Top Story

  • The reviews of AMD's Ryzen 7000 are in and it looks pretty darn good. (AnandTech)

The first PassMark scores are in too.

    The 7950X is 25% faster than the 5950X single-threaded, and 44% faster multi-threaded. (CPUBenchmark.net)

The 7900X is 35% faster than the 5900X on multi-threaded tests, confirming that the 5950X was indeed limited by power / thermals, and the increase to 170W has fixed that.

And finally, while Intel's upcoming 13900K has a small advantage on single-threaded tasks - around 8% - the 7950X beats it by 21% on multi-threaded work.

Which means - if you read through all 20 pages of that AnandTech review and get to the experiment at the end - that if you turn the power down on the 7950X all the way from 170W to 65W, it is still slightly faster than the 13900K, because that only reduced multi-threaded performance by 18%.

And that means two things: First, AMD's upcoming Dragon Range laptop chip will deliver true desktop-class performance to high-end laptops. And second, if they could jam in the chiplets somehow, AMD could deliver 32 cores in Socket AM5 without any real bottlenecks.

  • Bae case quite notably has not moved from the depot. I called again and they put in a redelivery request again. And this time gave me a case number to refer to when I call again tomorrow.

Their web site is still broken.

If you haven't seen this (and I doubt the MSM here will talk much about it), both Nord Stream 2 and Nord Stream 1 pipelines, what get Rooskie nat gas to Germany, have been sabotaged. Euqyppius on that here:

https://tinyurl.com/2zkfugte

The pipelines, underwater have been damaged, and are leaking. Only the US/NATO or the Russians have the means to do that.

Most likely scenario: US Navy did it, at the request of the lunatic German govt. They were worried that the coming cold winter, with no energy would result in overwhelming pressure to make a deal with Putin and turn the gas back on.

Blow up the pipeline, and that is off the table. That is exactly what happened. Our current leadership is a bunch of lunatics, war-mongering psychopaths, and they did this.

11 And the evening and the morning were the day thereof, and it was a Tuesday; and it was good.

MLiI, I hope you're doing well. A morning temp of 44 is chilly, but sounds lovely as long as one is indoors and not shivering on a park bench. Or waiting for a bus. I did enough of that in my jr. high, high school, and college years.

Coffee tastes odd this morning. Maybe I made it too strong (unlikely for me).

28 I'm not seeing much if any discussion about this. California in 2026 is going to mandate that 35% of all cars sold in the state are EVs. This mandate is automatically going to be applied to all other states that handed over their sovereignty to California when it comes to setting emission standards and EV mandates. Given that EVs are approximately $20,000 more expensive than a comparable ICE automobile who in the right mind is going to be buying EVs voluntarily to meet the 35% mandate? The implication is, as I see it is CA and the other states are going to tax the hell out of ICE vehicles to make them somewhere between 15% to 25% more expensive than EVs. And then there's the matter of emissions on ICE vehicles. California's emission standards are set by CARB which is a bureaucratic administrative agency that essentially answers to nobody. I can see CARB being the leading agency that will drive ICE vehicle prices to the stratosphere and every state that's tied into them will just follow along. So much for representative government. And we still haven't gotten around to solving how we're going to have enough electricity for all these new EVs. This is going to be a catastrophe.

Abrupt. Interesting rhetorical style. I am not sure I agree with her premise. She is making an argument for individual identify (and freedom to worship God and country as you wish) but her identification of the adversary is wrong in my opinion. She is saying that Financial Speculators are the ones who are driving a lot of pop culture(?) I think this is way off base. I would say cultural communists are driving a lot of this to break down culture and replace it with their own. They want to break the old culture so that their ideas can take root. It is just that they are making it financially beneficial to do so.

Going to have to look for more videos to get a better feel for her ideas.

Someone is doing some crazy stuff. What is the depth of water at the break? Ship's anchor? We have records of all ships in that area, going back a month.

An underwater break is the act of an enemy of Russia, Germany, UK and the EU. Seems like an own goal for them.
Finally, the only nation I would expect to keep quiet about this is the Royal Navy. But they seem unlikely.

So is WEF getting their own mini-subs? ASW just got interesting.

The Russians could've done the sabotage. They have the means. But would Putin have done it? All he has to do is just shut of the input valve on his end, which he has pretty much already done. You know, we've got maintenance problems, here, and all these sanctions are just messing up getting this fixed. So, sorry, we've got to shut it down. That's what he's done.

But now, the pipelines have been damaged. The US/NATO is the only other one with the means to do it.

*

It's been discussed here quite a bit. I'm very guilty of beating the dead horse, but people need to know about it and why it's happening. There are threads and threads, but short version:

It's China that's driving it. The timeline meets their timeline, and they are the big market. We're no longer the top dog moving market demand. Go read a bit about automotive markets and China if you're unfamiliar. Buick especially. And would you look at that, Buick is going all electric by 2030. Gosh, what a coincidence.

An aside? I have very little doubt Chinese money coordinates in and with California to make it especially damaging for the US economy. Long term plans and all that.

If it makes you feel any worse, it's a lovely 64° here in Las Cruces with a high in the mid-80s later. Perfect weather for pride week here in Las Cruces. Yes I have to put up with it twice. For some reason Las Cruces has pride week in late September. Thankfully the Southern New Mexico State Fair is happening, there's a jazz festival and the Aggies have a football game. So I will be able to avoid pride week but it's still bugs me that I have to go through it twice. As for the big pride parade, the city won't let the gays have a parade. They're allowed to pull wagons on the sidewalk around a few blocks in the central plaza area. It's quite hilarious.

Biden and Democrats have done this constantly. Alt Right, Ultra MAGA, Far Right, etc. This rhetorical style is used because it is effective, but it becomes a short hand for all the ills of the world and allows the speaker to shorthand their actual argument and gloss over what they actually stand for. It also allows you to shorthand what your stated adversary actually stands for.

That is my understanding too. Essentially two people get in a heated argument over abortion and get a little pushy, pushy and next thing you know you got 30 armed federal agents outside your door. This is very similar to the DOJ going after parents for being pissed off at their school boards except in this case there was a specific federal law that makes it a crime to impede an abortion employee from walking to and from the building. The new rule is there's no rules. Pay your parking tickets? Or you might find the FBI outside your door for impeding interstate commerce next.

118 Venus at closest approach is much easier to reach, and a flyby and return mission could be done in a year, against three years for Mars.

There's one major downside: If you land, you die. It's actually quite pleasant a few miles up, but visiting a planet and never touching the ground because it's instant death does seem to defeat the purpose just a tiny bit.

WHY ?

Yesterday had about equal daylight and night. 12 hours, roughly. The change in the length of daylight is the fastest round the equinox, and we're (at this latitude) at 2 minutes per day, descreasing.

128 The atmosphere of Venus is the layer of gases surrounding Venus. It is composed primarily of supercritical carbon dioxide and is much denser and hotter than that of Earth. The temperature at the surface is 740 K, and the pressure is 93 bar, roughly the pressure found 900 m underwater on Earth. The Venusian atmosphere supports opaque clouds of sulfuric acid, making optical Earth-based and orbital observation of the surface impossible.

See the concept of "floating habitats" on Venus. Well above the surface. Breathing air is a lifting gas on Venus. You can float about where the pressure is 1 atm, well above the surface.

You could float about 30 miles about the surface. Pressure 1 atm, temperatures ranging over the terrestrial range.

Doing whatever Vince told him in the WWE was best (hence why he learned Mandarin to help with expansion in China) and now doing what Hollywood execs tell him to do. Cena is a symptom. The plague is still Hollywood's pathetic simping for China. He can still get fucked but he's not the primary target for ire.

Well, if you get your EV battery under water, it will help with the possible thermal runaway reactions that can happen.

That's the basic "guidance" now. EV battery catches fire, keep in underwater. You need a heat sink to handle all the heat.
