The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
Romney claimed he couldn’t possibly endorse in the race because he is friends with both candidates, though it’s unclear why he thought his previously unannounced friendship with McMullin would be harmed by him supporting Republican incumbents and nominees, as all other Republican politicians do. The Washington Post’s Henry Olsen scoffed at Romney’s line about friends. “That’s sweet, but party loyalty matters, too. It’s one thing to disagree within one’s own party; that’s what primaries are for. It’s another to say that one is going to stay out of a general election and essentially tell your own state’s voters that there’s no difference between your party’s nominee and someone backed by your party’s adversaries. If that’s friendship, Lee should start finding better friends,” he wrote in March.
Romney is the perfect distillation of the corporate/political elites who are busily running this once great country into the ground. His default assumption is that whatever he says will be accepted by the masses because he is so damned smart, so successful, so well connected that we peons have no right to question his decisions. Never mind that his reasons are base, craven and self-serving. Don't forget that Mitt Romney was actually proud of the catastrophic power grab in Massachusetts called "Romneycare." That should have been a tip-off that he was just a garden variety authoritarian masquerading as a principled conservative. He fooled me once, but never again. Mike Lee deserves our support in his fight against McMullin and Romney, if for no other reason than to degrade Romney's power base and show the people of Utah what he is...a sleazy machine politician in it for the power and the glory, and certainly not someone who works for the betterment of his state and his country.

Ugh. No joke. I've loosened my purse strings a bit over the past six months and got some big-ticket stuff I don't need but do want. I might as well get something for my money before it can't buy anything at all. I'm maintaining my savings because I will get laid off some time in the next nine months, but if I want something, I'm getting it. No reason not to. If this keeps up, the money isn't go to be worth a damn and the stuff won't be available anyway.

Caveat - if you are in individual tech stocks, don't panic. Look at each company individually and decide if they will be able to survive this period and then thrive...or not. Only get out of those stocks which you think won't be able to do so...
ESPECIALLY if you don't need the money for awhile (5+ years)...don't just take huge paper losses when the paper can still recover if you have retirement planned decade(s) from now...

It's all about time horizons. Right now it's sheep shearing season. The things that will always save the markets is government tax take, insurance companies investment, and pension plan investments. Walker was a solid governor, one of the first targets of the uber-hysteria and lawlessness that is now standard against anyone who shows potential. He detonated instantly when he showed no seriousness on one of the few key issues.

Leveraged ETFs rarely perform as they should. Inverse ETFs are even worse. When you read the fine print it becomes more obvious as to why.
If you can snag one at the early onset of a major trend change in the underlying security(ies) you can do pretty well.
But the inverse products are, generally speaking, simply a grift mechanism for volatility sellers, with long buyers being the mark.

However, (I'll get to Cheney in a second.) if someone like Romney announces he's running and the GOPe hacks cream their jeans again since now he has the "gravitas" of being a senator, there's a chance that will cut down the number of Trump killers as the GOPe falls in line (like it was demanded we do in 2012 for Romney by some here.)

The pipeline is operated by Nord Stream, AG. That "company" is owned by Russia (Gazprom, 51%), with Germany and other European countries with minority stakes (the largest is 15.5%).
So are Nord Stream I & II "allies' critical infrastructure?" It's owned in majority by the enemy (Russia). It is critical for central Europe, and a German-incorporated firm operates it, but the "allies" don't own it. Isn't it more properly considered *Russian* critical infrastructure?

The GOPe will push one after another as the "Trump Killer". It will start sometime in March of next year at the latest. Whoever gets chosen first is going to raise a lot of money over about 6 months as the big, chosen name.
The donors will dismiss polls constantly until the debates start and they see that their wasted money isn't working. The problem will be the candidate, and we'll get our musical chairs of new candidates who suddenly see 7 figure dumps of cash into their campaigns and Super PACs, only to get replaced a fortnight later. Those won't come out of nowhere, but they'll have been running for months, buoyed by enough cash to keep them around just in case #1 doesn't work out.

Interestingly, the Hunt brothers came up with ketchup as a sort of steak sauce.
The problem was that at the time, many people were flooding into cities looking for work and opportunity, but the food flow into cities was not up to the task. So stuff would come in late and barreled and not preserved well.
You had two choices: not eat, or eat um, slightly "off" steaks and people would pour sauces they called "ketchup" on the meat to disguise the spoiled flavor. The Hunts thought "man, there has to be something better than this crap we're using"

To answer my own question, he died of a stroke at age 77, back in 2018, according to Wikipedia. Also much to my surprise, he was apparently straight.

In rural areas probably more like 95%. But in the SLC area it’s only about 50/50.
