They repaired my ceiling. Still got water leaking into the kitchen and part of the bedroom carpet. I've reported the "management" again to Code Enforcement and have told them that if I don't see some movement on Monday, I'm calling a plumber and taking the charges off the rent. That's legal, I've been told by the lady from the legal foundation who came out with the group on Wed.

I've gotten to the point where I don't care. Mentally I no longer live here. My body stays here; my mind has already moved on. And if Stirling wants to sharpen his claws on the carpet? Go to it, my man!

There was talk right after Katrina of letting everything but the port facilities go back to "green" and establishing a new city just up the river. Not talk here -- these goofballs will cling to the oak trees even as they wash away. Pundits in the media were saying, "Why rebuild?"

I was reading that last night - the really pathetic/disgusting part is that the investigators finally admitted that the problem with their case against Matt Gaetz was that their most important "witness" was a man who had been previously convicted in court of perjury and of filing fake police reports against his political opponents. After 18 months of investigation based on what he was saying, someone finally told them "hey you know you can't put this guy on a witness stand, don''t you?"

Gonna be a clear day, less breezy than yesterday, which topped out at about 41, and felt absolutely arctic-y.

We've a little 4-point buck that's fallen in love with the 2-year-old corgi, here in the quiet outback of the northern Adirondacks. He gets a kick out of stirring her all up, how she growls and stomps, then gives him the bums rush back into the woods, every time he comes browsing into the yard. Happened three times yesterday.

Nobody really minds a little bit of corruption if it's done tastefully and competently. It's easy to brush off as "greasing the wheels", etc. But legions of incompetent, greedy bastards took advantage of that, and didn't realize that a life of corruption is actually hard work, and takes a little bit of skill and caution.

143 The "coup in China" appears to be fake; however, I was searching and found a real story about some political opponents of Xi this week.

"Former Vice Public Security Minister Sun Lijun, 53, was given a suspended death sentence with no possibility of parole by a court in Changchun city, Jilin province, state broadcaster China Central Television reported....
While the report made no mention of Sun’s political dealings, the party’s top disciplinary body had previously accused him of “cultivating personal power and forming an interest group.” ... Another two people associated with the group -- former justice minister Fu Zhenghua and Wang Like, who was a senior official in Jiangsu -- were similarly given suspended death sentences Thursday. Three others -- former Shanghai police chief Gong Daoan, former Chongqing police chief Deng Huilin and former Shanxi police chief Liu Xinyun -- received lengthy prison terms on Wednesday."

Her youtube video is posted @76. It's 18 minutes and includes the twatt part. She is skeptical. The rumour is about a week old IN china (see video @89).

Xi missed an important military meeting on Sep 21. Zeng explains this and has pictures from the meeting of two politburo members who attended the meeting AND a general who Xi fired a couple of weeks ago.

But these rumours are constant: search "Xi coup" on youtube and there's something every couple of months.

178 I accidentally made a 18000 online payment to a Chase card instead on 180.00. Chase processed the payment 3x. Hit me with a bounced check fee 3x, then a late fee, because the payment was late by the time I caught the error. Resulted in a 27% penalty rate which they never cleared, I wound up cancelling the card. My bank hit me with overdraft fees 3x plus a bunch of other penalties. It was an obvious error. My card balance was only a couple hundred, and I only had a couple hundred in the bank at the time. They all just laughed a d said there was nothing they could do, policy and all. Be more careful next time. That is when I realized banks exist on the money they scrape from the poor. Now that I have several hundred thousand in the bank, they bend over backwards for me.

IIRC, Zeng said that the death penalty each received is normally reduced to life in prison after a couple of years on death row. This is an important factor for political stability. It allows the factions within the politburo to avoid critical confrontations.

Also implies that a coup has very little bearing on the CCPs foreign policy.

the head of the Oil and Gas association yesterday said (I think he was on Fox) that the release of 1,000,000 BOPD was suppressing oil prices significantly. When this is stopped after the election (which it has to) then gas prices will quickly soar past $5.00 per gallon. Guaranteed.

198 Oil and natural gas prices will start to rise once the cold weather hits and demand increases. The only potential moderating factor will be the recession and inflation which may lower consumption. Bank on it. The way in which they've currently lowered energy prices is not sustainable. This administration has not changed their mind on major factors such as leases which effect the long term price stability.

254 221 At the grocery store checkout people are putting items back when it exceeds their budget. I've watched people do the same when coupons don't work. It started with the elderly and those on fixed incomes. It's now worked it's way down into the lower middle class. I also spoke with some older folks who were retired and are now getting jobs to supplement their income. That's because the retirement fund portion of their income has significantly shrunk. I'm gonna go out on a limb and state most of these people won't be voting for a continuation of this garbage...and I've often heard as much. Those who can leave, have. The rest are staying and are very motivated.

I see this at Church food requests - no one is making cheese or meat sandwiches for the poor, few are bringing treats for bake sales, no one's signing up for how to feed teens for $5/person (when you have to do at least meat, side, dessert)...the middle class used to be the big "doers" for these projects...but they can't afford them and their own food...

257 Here's a little trick our local Kroger's has started; expensive foods like meats, cherries, some cheeses are now prominently labeled with the price per pound, not what the actual cut, bag or slice costs.

My wife picked up a bag of cherries, price was displayed as $4.99. But it was a 3lb bag. I pointed that out to her and she freaked out.

I locked in my electric at 11 cents for 4 years last month.

Do you have to pay a 'distribution fee' on top of that? My utility charges about 12 cents for power generation and another 12 cents as a 'distribution fee' for wire maintenance. So, a total of 24 cents per KwH.

But we have Asplundh working my area about 8 hours a day, seven days a week.

They wound up with the mortgage on a place I used to own, thanks to the gobbling-up that took place in the late '90s - early 2000 (I don't remember exactly when, because the mortgage got sold to new companies what seemed like 50 times, but probably only 4 or 5).

When I sold the place and paid it off, it took them nearly a year to cut loose the money that was in the escrow account.

That's a nice number. But my entire area is one huge forest. On my street, this year, we've had back to back power outages when a huge branch comes down, knocks out power, and the next day, another branch from the same tree comes down and knocks out power again. That's just two of the six times this year power has gone out due to trees.

I may not believe in global warming but I'm beginning to wonder if extra CO2 is making these trees outperform their ability to stand.
