Too Little, Too Late. And More Of A Wait.

Gibson's Bakery a small family owned bakery is located in Oberlin, Ohio. You may recall in 2016 this business made the news.

If you don't the following comes from Wikipedia.

2016 shoplifting incident
On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, an underage African-American Oberlin College student and Student Assistant Treasurer,[7] Jonathan Aladin (aka Elijah Aladin), attempted to purchase a bottle of wine using a fake identification card.[6] The store clerk, Allyn D. Gibson, a son and grandson of the owners,[4] rejected the fake ID. Gibson noticed that the student was concealing two other bottles of wine inside his jacket.[8][4] According to a police report, Gibson told the student he was contacting the police, and when Gibson pulled out his phone to take a photo of the student, the student slapped it away, striking Gibson's face.[9] The student ran out of the store. Gibson followed and then grabbed and held onto the shoplifter outside the store after the shoplifter had also assaulted the store owner, David Gibson.[4] Two other students, Cecelia Whettstone and Endia Lawrence, friends of the shoplifter, joined the scuffle.[4] When the police arrived, they witnessed Gibson lying on the ground with the three students punching and kicking him.[9] The police report stated that Gibson sustained a swollen lip, several cuts, and other minor injuries.[5][10] The police arrested the students, charging all three with assault and the shoplifter with robbery as well. In August 2017, the three students pleaded guilty, stating that they believed Gibson's actions were justified and were not racially motivated.[9][11][12] Their plea deals carried no jail time in exchange for restitution, the public statement, and a promise of future good behavior.[11][13]

Fast forward to 2017.

Civil complaint
In November 2017, Gibson's Bakery filed a civil complaint against Oberlin for libel, slander, interference with business relationships, and interference with contracts in the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas. Gibson's argued that the college supported the protests that damaged its reputation and that the college unlawfully broke its contract with the bakery.[9] In the complaint, the Gibson family alleged that some Oberlin College professors attended the demonstrations, joined in the chants with a bullhorn, and gave course credit to students who skipped class to attend the demonstrations. It also claimed Oberlin employees distributed boycott flyers and allowed them to be photocopied for free on school machines.[6]

The Jury comes back with its decision.

Verdict and responses
In June 2019, the jury found in favor of the Gibson family, awarding $11 million in compensatory damages, before further hearings on punitive damages and legal fees.[19]

Today is August 14, 2022 and and the Gibson family still hasn't seen one red cent.

Yes, this is older news and you're wondering what does the Gibson Bakery have to do with today's Headline.

A verdict in another large libel case came in on Friday August 12th. Former Republican Senatorial candidate Roy Moore wins libel suit vs. Senate Majority PAC.

Moore’s candidacy in Alabama was derailed after the Washington Post published a report claiming Moore made sexual advances against four teenage girls between 1977 and 1982.

As the Associated Press reported:

The lawsuit centered on one television commercial that recounted accusations against Moore in various news articles. Moore’s attorneys argued the ad, through the juxtaposition of statements, falsely claimed he solicited sex from young girls at a shopping mall, including another 14-year-old who was working as a Santa’s helper, and that resulted in him being banned from the mall.

The advertisement at issue in the lawsuit began with: “What do people who know Roy Moore say?” It followed with the statements “Moore was actually banned from the Gadsden mall … for soliciting sex from young girls” and “One he approached was 14 and working as Santa’s helper.” Both quotes cited various news articles.

“In their ad they strung quotes together to make a single statement. That’s what the jury found offensive. They got up and lied and said they didn’t intend that,” Moore’s attorney Jeff Wittenbrink said.

No criminal charges were filed against Moore, who formerly served as Alabama Supreme Court chief justice.

The jury rightly decided in Moore's favor. But, did this cost the typically safe red senate seat of Alabama to go to Jones the Democrat? My guess and it is only a guess but I would say it contributed greatly.

What is there to stop the next super pac from libeling and defaming a Republican candidate? The super pacs can always hit up their donors for more cash. And Oberlin a private institute of higher learning (Spits and laughs) sits on a huge egg nest of assets.

Moore's adversary promises to appeal. Oberlin is still at it. If you don't have to pay for your improper civil behavior there is no deterrence.

Just how long before Moore receives the compensation he is due? When will Gibson's Bakery be made whole? None of us have the answers and only God knows.

Yup. This is why I completely disagree with people who think we can rely on the courts to save us from things like this. "Oh, that will be thrown out or reversed in court, so it's not an issue."

Wrong. The Left doesn't care about losing in court. They know the court case will drag on and on and on. And by that time, they will have long since achieved their goal for their action anyway. Such as blocking Moore from winning an election.

The same went on with the 2020 election. Only with that, the Left won, because every single court rejected even bringing any cases to trial. So they got to rig and steal election with zero consequences, rule of law be damned. And they will keep doing this, because it works.

21 Money is one thing, but we're obviously seeing this type of thing in all sorts of settings. Primarily in politics, but obviously cases like Gibson's bakery, and other businesses who wouldn't bow to the gay lobby...

I hear tell Matt Gaetz has a bit of a problem with being accused of human trafficking. Look that one up. I have no idea if it will affect his upcoming election, but needless to say, there's a common theme to some of these accusations. Had Missouri nominated Greitens for Senate, they'd have the same thing going on there. Bullshit charges, filed by corrupt prosecutors, and when the cases go away, it doesn't matter. The damage is done.

25 I think one reason the Big Lie Media have such constitutional protection to lie and to protect sources is that the courts felt it would discourage government corruption. In fact, the opposite has occurred. Progressive government and the Big Lie Media have joined forces to afflict the innocent and to protect the guilty.

Pelosi is not only a major investor in Borqs, a player in the Chinese internet-of-things and 5G sector, but has also worked as a consultant for the firm, rewarded for his services with 700,000 shares in the firm, at which time his holdings were exceeded only by CEO Pat Sek Yuen Chan.

56 More to Clyde Shelton's comment above, the totalitarians (I suppose, in character) increasingly simply don't comply when a ruling or decision goes against them. The behavior goes beyond bad faith - which is awful enough, and destructive of the foundation of a society based on rules and rule of law - and into defiance and lawlessness.

Look at the reaction in stupid anti-gun states to the recent SCOTUS ruling. Or worse, even the inferior courts' performance vis a vis Heller since it was handed down.

But in a country where the most fundamental laws - related to borders and sovereignty - are systematically, openly, contemptuously ignored and violated by states and feds alike, with enormous concrete social consequences, with complete impunity, none of this is surprising.

Do we really need a new/updated Constitution or do we simply need people in positions of influence who will enforce the Constitution and current laws on the books. And to enforce laws equally, not enforce them against certain people, but not against others.

For example, the illegal immigration issue could be solved overnight if we simply enforced the laws that have been on the books for decades.

90 The crude, open, histrionic corruption of the Pelosi and Biden crime families - without almost any repercussions, legal or political - is a sort of devastating indicator of civic decline. It's literally Third World now.

And let's not forget the Clintons, the renting of US foreign policy in pay-for-play, crudely and openly practiced by the 7th floor at State, for years.

Not a murmur of outrage beyond the usual small sector.

But a true outsider muscles his way (electorally) into the WH, someone who doesn't need the money, and ..... his daughter's business (a real one, not an access or power scam) is blacklisted, because ..... ???? No reason at all. Just hatred, bigotry, mindless mob animus (and this followed directly on the mindless mob adulation of a nasty, unimpressive, uninteresting nobody who brought incompetence and disaster, whose only "qualification" was skin color and a weird last name).

99 It sucks that the wheels turn so slowly. If they REALLY need money right now, there are many outfits that will advance them money in exchange for a cut of the ultimate payout. They'll give you a million now, they take a million and a quarter when you finally get paid. If you end up losing, you pay them nothing. This is a slam dunk case (the appeal is a mere formality and delaying tactic) so they should have no trouble finding an outfit willing to "invest" on good terms. Yup. It doesn't matter that 30 months later, all the Plandemic policies have been proven anti-science and dangerous to public health... they did their purpose. Which was to brainwash the populace into conformity with the WEF narrative and plan to blindly obey the elites. And give central power to all the WEF elite tyrants they put in place throughout Western nations (Trudeau in Canada, Johnson in UK, Arden in New Zealand, Fauci and Biden in USA, etc.).

Going back further, it doesn't matter that the entire "green" "climate change" movement is based on lies and junk science. The movement is now normalized and "settled science" in every Western nation government and policies as well as in every Western corporation and industry.

While the right was so focused on rule of law, the Left was marching through the institutions and taking over the culture, making rule of law meaningless.

Much, if not all of this, boils down to 'bearing false witness' which is called out in the Commandments. I've always believed that violating this Commandment, more than most of the others, is the most egregious since it undermines and destroys the most basic foundations of civilization and of a peaceful society - the very concept of trust in your fellow man. When you undermine that, then conflict resolution devolves to physical violence.

It was indeed a Mini-Cooper, but the "Clubman" model, which is a 5-door (4dr+hatchback), and in this one, the "hatchback" is actually a pair of rear doors, vertical seam, latching in the middle. It's the largest in the Mini-Cooper lineup. Four or five seat car, if the backseaters are wee kidlets or krugmans or thousand-millimeter reiches or such.

As for the fire, that could be any car, really. Tearing out parts of the under-engine/undercarriage/hot exhaust/fuel lines as it plows into a structure isn't conducive to keeping things quite intact.

184 Aquib Talib, a star but troubled NFL player when he was young, had seemingly worked sufficiently hard over the past ten years to resurrect his image with management and news types and be trusted enough by their GM to be brought back into the fold.

Most recently, he was hired by ESPN to be a studio analyst. Not anymore.

On Friday night he and his brother were co-coaching a local 9U team. Unfortunately, they and the other team's coach (another big ass black guy) got into an argument out on the field in front of the kids and parents.

Things escalated and turned into a scrum, during which either Talib or his brother shot and killed the other coach! On the field. In front of probably 50-100 mostly 7-9 year olds and their parents.

This is obviously not going be good for his ESPN position or any sponsored activities.

Tough break, the other coach being black, that is.

They may have been able to claim justified homicide under the "he called me a ........" clause in the legal codes, which permits POC to kill whites in response to the utterance of sacrosanct words.

But subsection of penal code 1390 permits POC to use racial slurs without fear of reprisal and, as such, murdering another POC for using sacrosanct words is impermissible.

It is not a coincidence that all the restrictions were lifted after Brandon was stuck in the White House for 10 days, and after Schumer needed every Democrat Senator to be able to vote in the Senate Chamber to pass the so-called Inflation Reduction Act.

The Junta wants Brandon to continue to make half-day expeditions to Blue areas to tell us what a terrific job he's doing, and how evil Republicans are, to frequently produce fresh sound bites for The Media. The Junta also does not want to lose close votes on anything in the Senate while Democrats have control.

Politics began the stupid restrictions, politics is ending them.

I rarely see anyone wearing a mask around here anymore. The virus isn't really much of topic of discussion and RI is a reliably blue state.

Posted by: JackStraw

Former AG Mukasey was on with Maria Bartiromo today and basically said this was about Jan 6th investigation. The warrant was issued for something they had no desire to have, they wanted it broad enough to search for anything that proved Trump incited J6 insurrection. Its the left's holy grail. But, the search warrant - if issued to find one thing specific and then used secretly without the court's knowledge to try and get info on something else, its all inadmissible in court and those seeking the warrant on deceptive premises have defrauded a federal court...serious business.

245 The absurd face covering element was the only one not explicitly or implicitly abandoned in the latest CDC guidance. Even though it remains as baseless as all the rest of it always was.

Having given up on the whole topic, and the societies that ruined and beclowned themselves based on no science whatsoever, I haven't kept track, but I believe there is no new actual science on top of the 70+ years of actual science showing masks don't materially affect the spread of ILIs - except for the very large well designed RCT done in Denmark in 2020 that again showed the same result.

Thing about masks is they are concrete, daily, visible reminders of how stupid, ignorant, medieval/superstitious, submissive, and incurious so many tens of millions of people are. And in institutional settings, how incompetent and arrogant they are - and boy in medical institutional settings, a hair-raising reminder of the degradation of our hitherto most impressive institutions.

They are not constrained by laws, they have the entire media institution serving as their propaganda outlet to support their every move and silence any opposition, and they have zero opposition in the Republican Party willing to do anything to stop them.

So yeah, they are going to do whatever they want and get away with it. They don't even have to be successful with any charges in a trial. Simply arrest him on some BS, hold him in prison indefinitely like they are doing with the J6 prisoners and then rig and steal the 2022 and 2024 elections as planned.

If you think anyone is going to stop them, see November 2020 and every day in the USA since.
