The Morning Report — 8/11/22

marafarrago.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and the fallout over the in-your-face Gestapo raid on Mar-a-Lago continues to rain down on our heads. The question is does it portend "justice rolling down like water" to paraphrase MLK jr. or radioactive debris? This raid, and no doubt the show trial that will follow that will include a smoking gun even more laughable than the pee tape and Russian collusion, will turn President Trump into a martyr. If you read between the lines of the reaction from the media propaganda mills, they know it. Even before this revolting episode, polls indicated that a clear majority of Americans did not give a shit about the J6 committee hearings and, more crucially, believe that at the very least the 2020 election was seriously compromised. And those results cut across party lines. So, with an economy crash-diving towards depression, a wide-open border, an out of control national crime wave and societal collapse looming, they pull this cunning stunt? Bravo.

We are all waiting to see the next steps establishment Washington takes following the raid at Mar-a-Lago. As details emerge, the reason for the intrusive spectacle becomes less clear. It has undoubtedly divided Americans along partisan lines. However, the obvious political persecution of the former president is drawing some new lines. People notice when you put that kind of banana republic nonsense on top of a horrible economy.

According to a new poll from Convention of States and Trafalgar Group, the majority of Independents, 53.9%, believe Trump’s political enemies are behind the FBI Raid. They join 76.7% of Republicans who hold the same view. The two groups are also aligned on enthusiasm to vote based on the FBI raid. The spectacle increased the motivation to vote for 83.3% of Republicans and 71.7% of Independents.

Nearly three-quarters of Trump-Deranged Democrats believe the raid was the impartial justice system at work. The raid did not create as much enthusiasm to vote among Democrats, with only 55.2% saying it made a difference.

And then there's this little nugget:

Senior U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials are blaming FBI Director Christopher Wray for the recent raid of former President Donald Trump’s home in an apparent attempt to take pressure off U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

After Trump confirmed the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago on Monday, many Republican politicians called on both Wray and Garland to explain the justification for the raid. . .

. . . However, one senior DOJ official told Newsweek that the final decision to green-light the raid on Mar-a-Lago rested with FBI Director Wray.

“I know it’s hard for people to believe, but this was a matter for the U.S. Attorney and the FBI,” the source told Newsweek.

“It really is a case of the Bureau misreading the impact,” the source added. . .

. . . Another senior DOJ official told Newsweek that the Mar-a-Lago raid was a “spectacular backfire” because the FBI reportedly planned the raid while Trump was not in Florida in an effort to avoid any media circus. . .

. . . With Republicans rallying around the former president after news of the raid broke, it appears the FBI got the exact opposite of what they wanted.

So, the Wray and Garland factions are pointing the finger at each other, instead of declaring with confidence that they have the goods on "the greatest threat to our precious democracy in history" (*vomits). Funny but I don't seem to recall the FBI and DOJ going after Clinton underboss Sandy Berger, now roasting somewhere in the Infernal Reaches, for waltzing into the National Archives, shoving classified documents in his urine-bedewed, skid-marked BVDs and then leaving unchallenged and unmolested. And those documents, unlike what his boss Hillary manufactured out of whole cloth in 2016 to try and take down Trump, did indeed implicate her husband in his ineptness that paved the way for the 9/11 attacks, among other things.

Berger got a slap on the wrist and the propagandists dutifully swept the affair under the rug. What did Trump get? Into the Wayback Machine with the estimable Lloyd Billingsley we go:

“Mr. Berger made repeated trips to the National Archives to refresh his memory about the Clinton national security team’s work to foil a bin Laden plot,” the obituary explained. “He was caught smuggling out a handful of sensitive documents, destroying some at his office, and lying about possessing them.”

The Post is not curious about what these classified documents contained. For his part, Berger “continued to advise political leaders, including Hillary Clinton,” who also had a thing about classified material.

The former first lady and secretary of state kept reams of sensitive data on her unsecured home-brew server. When some 30,000 emails sparked interest, she bleached the server clean and smashed up phones and other devices. Clinton’s actions violated several statutes, but the FBI never conducted a surprise raid.

The most galling thing about all of this is that those who are going after Trump and in reality anyone who opposes the destruction of America is that it is they who are the arch criminals, thieves, child-rapist perverts and power-mad tyrants who now sit in judgement of a man, flawed though he may be (as we all are) is probably among the least corrupt individuals to ever hold public office. Think about it; Donald Trump spent the past 40-50 years in a business where he no doubt had to deal with both organized crime as well as one of the most corrupt political machines in the nation (and both were tied at the hip) and yet after all the audits, investigations and anal exams by legions of Federal, state and local apparatchiks yielded absolutely NOTHING.

Oh, they'll manufacture evidence to create some sort of process crime that they hope will keep him from running in '24. Yes, there is reason to believe the FBI used the raid as a pretext to retrieve sensitive documents that implicated them in both the Russiagate fraud as well as the J-6 phony insurrection/entrapment sting. Or merely as a photo-op to taint his image. Meh, I think that ship sailed a long time ago. After everything we have been through, Trump remains "Teflon Don." Forgetting the elections for a moment, we are at an inflection point and Donald Trump is, whether he realizes it or not, the leader of a movement and of a people. I believe that the enemy has got him . . . exactly where he wants them. And that is a very dangerous place.

Whatever moves they may make against him now, after this fiasco, will only make more and more people angrier at them. If he can control his actions and statements — and that's a big "if" because sometimes it's an Achilles heel — he'll be unstoppable. I don't necessarily mean that insofar as him being a candidate, or even him personally, either. Again, there is a perfect storm of events approaching that has to potential to really alter the course of history. Whether it's in a positive way or not remains to be seen.

IIRC Wray was second in command at the FBI when Comey was canned. He moved up. Whether he was Trump's choice isn't clear, but I do think McConnell and the GOP pushed him on Trump as one they'd confirm. For obvious reasons that are now very clear.

This went on for 4 years and people still don’t get that?? Explains Wray and Barr and also explains why you must not keep sending GOPE to the Senate. Keep Mitch out of power. He’s on the other side

80 I was foooled by Barr too. He talked the talk, and I thought that as aformer AG he was motivated to clean up the DOJ, even if he didn't care for Trump. Was Barr always a pussy despite his strong talk, or was he intimidated? Who cares now.

Gotta' remember, Bagpipe Billy made his bones in DC back in the 90s, by defending the sniper that put a head-shot in an unarmed housewife, holding her child, at 100 yards. Barr's been what he is for a long, long time.

84 63 For fuck's sake, people. The entire Federal government is engaging in banana republic dictatorial tyranny and you're blaming Trump? That's the focus; his hiring blunders?

It's important to understand what went wrong, if we wish to not repeat the same errors. This error is pretty obvious, and some here commented on it at the time. You don't drain the swamp by surrounding yourself with people from the swamp. They aren't going to destroy their own homes.
Posted by: Once More With Feeling at August 11, 2022 08:02 AM (9mLZT)

Yes, we know what went wrong, and yes, some or even quite a few of Trump's hires were awful. But to not understand the level of corruption he got himself into is something we were all guilty of. Ditto to expect that the rule of law would be followed by the losers as well as the winners.

But that is NOT the important thing to focus on now. It is that we have tyrants engaging in national thuggery. That is the issue at hand. How we got here is important ONLY if we ever wrest control again.

I have a different read on the press coverage. It was unusually frenetic and disjointed. They didn't have their talking points ready to go and their fill-in-the-blank stories pre-written. Some articles accepted non-left framing ("banana republic" stuff), some defended it, some tried to approximate straight reporting, some went into why this is great, some went into why it is controversial, etc. There was little consistent unity in the coverage.

I think they were caught flat-footed and now that it's been coordinated, it is desperate. Legally (ha) and officially, this is all fine. We're post-law and they do whatever the hell the please without consequence. I strongly suspect, however, that is blowing up in their faces quite badly from a popular sentiment standpoint. Whether that matters remains to be seen (I suspect it doesn't, at least not yet) but they certainly do appear to be unhappy about being subject to a lot of discontent and push-back from normies.

Yes and no. The principle that applies here is Respondeat Superior. The chief executive is ultimately responsible for his hires. It's not unreal or unreasonable to fault Trump for his often inappropriate and sometimes clueless personnel decisions (did he have one chief of staff who was truly loyal to him?). He must have understood after the brutal election the challenges he would face, that "draining the swamp" was going to pivot on his line officers.

He did make some very good choices: Mnuchin, Ross, Grenell, Lighthizer

The only thing that matters now is, has he learned?

I disagree with the assessment. This raid has not divided people along any lines, let alone partisan ones. What it has done is made the existing division points and lines clearer. The lines are not new, and neither is the division. There may have been some shifting of people to one or the other side of the existing lines, but not along new lines. Trump and his outsider narrative of national populism was the new dividing line, and this action is just re-emphasizing that. It's downstream from it. It's subject to it, not remaking it.

Pope Benedict once complained that his authority didn't extend past his office door. Trump came from the business world, where once the CEO makes a decision his subordinates carry them out or get fired. Then went their own way, secure in the knowledge they couldn't be fired because they had civil service protection.

131 So, the Wray and Garland factions are pointing the finger at each other, instead of declaring with confidence that they have the goods on "the greatest threat to our precious democracy in history" (*vomits).
++++
Which is telling and leads to believe either that someone (Wray or below) acted without authorization or that the top of the chain (Garland and his superiors in the politburo) authorized it all but badly misread the reaction. Not from the non-progs - they surely knew there would be a lot of noise there, and weighed it as "it's just noise that will die in the vacuum, or we trigger an incident that would be politically useful if someone rises to the provocation." But they are also getting a lot of backlash from other normies or mid-fos. They are not being greeted as liberating heroes, but as jack-booted thugs.

So which is it? My bet is on top-down. The action around Wray feels like a setup and he's a patsy who will take the fall - and he's a big, meaty bone to throw at the problem. I have no sympathy for Wray, but I'll bet he's pretty pissed at Garland and the faction that ordered the job.

138 Rather than focusing on Trump's hires, McConnell or any other side issue I think it's a lot more productive to focus on why did the FBI do the raid to recover specific documents.

Anyone who is surprised that this is backfiring on the FBI/DOJ is naive. The blind, deaf and dumb kid who plays a mean pinball could have predicted it. Yet they did it anyway.

It seems to me there are 2 things those documents could be about: 1) January 6th or 2) Spygate. January 6th seems unlikely to me simply because I don't think Trump did anything wrong on Jan 6th including grabbing the steering wheel and I don't think he's dumb enough to write anything down anyway. Certainly not 15 frigging boxes worth.

That leaves Spygate and there are documents that Trump tried to declassify that would directly implicate wide scale corruption at the FBI beyond just Spygate and the Deep State has been fighting to keep them hidden despite Trump declassifying them.

What's in those documents. Why won't anyone tell us at least what they are about?

It's way, way more than that. After six years of continuous investigations, intelligence operations, harassment, insult, contempt and malice, the integrity of these organizations is shot. Done. Kaput. As a result, their investigations and prevarications and ops are not meaningless but rather counter-productive. At this point, being targeted by the FBI is a badge of honor - it means you might actually be a legitimate outsider choice for office. It is probably good for improving popular support. The era of "I dunno, he was investigated by (or raided by) the FBI and something's probably pretty damn hinkey" is over.

I am still very much ambivalent on the "their mole in the Trump organization told them" story but if it's true, that means they didn't consider the possibility that they were being lured into a mole hunt and that indicates remarkable foolishness and stupidity. It's also possible - and simpler - that they had a pretext, they had a friendly pseudo-judge, the boss was out of town and they just went for it on a fishing expedition. It blew up in their faces.

Too much secrecy, surprise, obvious political targeting and bald-faced corruption. If anything was "found" they'll be accused of planting evidence and if there is surveillance footage then they'll not know which way to go. If nothing was found, they will be exposed for what they are - jack-booted commissars. They probably feel like a raccoon surrounded by traps right now. Good.

The spygate documents confirm that the US ran a color revolution to remove a duly elected president in Ukraine to install a puppet, and that family members of virtually every member of congressional leadership were getting bribes from the money laundering going on there. Look back on Ukraine press coverage from 2014 and it becomes clear.

191 The proof the Mar-a-logo raid was politically motivated, is in the story about the FBI refusing to show the warrant to Trump's lawyer. In a criminal raid the popo throw the warrant at the defendant and his lawyer, to intimidate them and show what bad shape the defendant is in. The law only hides the warrant when they are doing something shady.

By the way none of the FBI agents had sufficient security clearance to look at presidential eyes-only material.

Add to the mix, Trump was purportedly cooperating with the Archives to return whatever they wanted, but they had yet to indicated what that was.

Impatience? It was obviously a political move someone thought would work out differently.

Also possible. The simplest answer is that was an elaborate big version of a plain old simple fishing expedition. The sealed warrant crap makes it very hard to say. The more complicated - and therefore less likely, if Occam has anything to say about it - possibilities are planting evidence, running a PR op, planting bugs, etc. The actual simplest answer is that it *was* about the documents, but not about the legality of those documents. They want those documents back under their lock-and-key and out of his hands, classification status be damned.

While the Democrats tend to attract the stupid, the feckless, the childish, the uninformed, the envious, the easily-led, regardless of IQ, there is probably a good 10-20% of them who can think through consequences of smashing the economy, smashing the Constitution, and constant violence enforced lies. Many here have followed a similar path. If you have an IQ above shoe-size, eventually you have to get tired of the lies and the severe mismatch with reality in blindly following the Left. As always, your first real job is an eye-opener.

I believe we're starting to see that process in play right now. The Left has been smart in attempting to pre-toxify Trump with constant lies about him. But, young adults want jobs, they want homes, they want good food and the ability to have a good time.

Looking at Disney's long-term chart, the recent uptick is barely discernible without my glasses. The early 2020 decline and the tear it went on afterward before grinding downward is clear as hell, though.

If they can do it to him, they can do it to you. That is valuable in the fight they are waging on us. They already showed once that votes don't mean shit. And with a complicit opposition party, they know the only true danger to their "transformation" lies with a single person.

That's the optimistic take.

Yes, Ben Had. Actually, it was Trump, the ultimate declassification authority, who gave the order and then Ratcliffe was working with the agencies, FBI, DOJ, etc., to get their final redactions. But they ran out the clock on Trump and when Biden took over the release was going to stop.

I believe that the way the process was set up there is some leeway for departments to claim that releasing certain information will hurt sources and methods which is a constant way the Deep State forces unnecessary redactions. I agree - but we need to change the "terminology" to consolidate/RIF duplicative tasks and departments (either in fed or by fed/state/local), not fire/close/punish.

Take a business approach to the problem - it sells much more to RINOs (who we still need to win) and takes the emotion out of it.

Sell it as a path to saving Social Security and Medicare, since they are insolvent in a decade...savings will be "dedicated" to their continued existence.

And then torch departments at will - I'd start with Ed and DHS (since DHS never needed to exist) and toss sub departments like FBI (since we could toss all the "good parts" elsewhere)...

309 The worrisome detail on the FBI raid was they called the Secret Service the night before and the Secret Service let them in.

Now imagine if you will, an FBI team sent to assassinate Trump and make it look like he resisted arrest or some hooey.

The Secret Service is now of no use in protecting Republicans against internal "insider" threats.

Remember when Trump was first president, he wanted to keep his own security as the innermost protective ring. The Secret Service struck some confidential deal.

Looks like Trump knew what to expect.

It all shows the blowback is real, even among the leftist capital elites. The assault stinks, they know it stinks, and any credence given to Trump or the rightist complaints is reacted to like a political case of hives. The elites are allergic to even the mere suggestion their motives are what Republicans claim. Failures in every phase of life are staring the bankrupt elites in the face, and suggesting their desperation is leading them down crazy, dark pathways (which is obvious) is treated like a case of leprosy in a crowded room.

359 341 They're blaming this on Wray because this is that scene in Casablanca where the gang realizes they need a fall guy, and Wilmer fills the bill nicely. Besides, Wray has already told the Senate to fuck off, he's not running for anything, and no one will do a thing to him as long as Biden and Kamala are in power. I figure Wray is just about to give us all a "Hell Yeah I ordered the Code Red!!!" speech.

As I said following Wray's testimony - he's a man not long for this world. I guess he really needed a vacation.

362 CBD (on the podcast) says he thinks PDJT does not do the "backbreaking work" of digging into federal departments and eliminating people and processes clogging up operations. Maybe, CBD says, DeSantis is that hard working guy.

Your point is just exactly wrong, IMO. Trump did exactly that, bringing in consultants to ask "what, would you say, exactly do you do here?". He was tremendous in that regard.

In business, we sell software to a couple of departments and agencies. Our customers at HHS and IRS were in stark fear of what Trump was doing, examining every aspect of high level operations, and preparing for a massive reorg of those departments operations for the second term. That reorg obviously never happened, but lots of little things changed and people reassigned or not hired. Having worked with Trumps hotel operations, I can also say few people are more focused on cost reduction in my experience than Trump.

So I disagree with your point.

377 To repeat a point I was making yesterday, I do NOT believe there was any "confidential informant"; or more specifically, I believe the "mole" was FBI Director Wray's personal secretary sitting in the next office holding a handkerchief over her mouth.

Remember EVERYTHING they did in the Steele Dossier idiocy? It should be obvious that the FBI and DOJ for *years* have been simply making up claims that they have "confidential informants" whose Identity they cannot reveal, so that they can get compliant judges to sign off on warrants that should never be granted.

I believe absolutely that the "informant" claim is a huge lie, meant to both defraud the warrant process and sow dissension among Trump's people.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at August 11, 2022 08:17 AM (WWh8n)

Not even Wray would act unilaterally to conduct this raid. He would have been involved in its execution including the obvious judge shopping. This was a political decision, made by the faceless junta members, based on a ridiculous legal predicate. We’ve seen this before in the effort to take down the parents speaking at school board meetings where we later learned that WH operatives and Garland were involved.

I'm not sure if I agree with that, but -
I do believe we are entering a dangerous period.
I'd lay it out like this:
1) Do most people want to live in a leftard dictatorship of child-grooming, child-molesting, child-mutilating pervs
who are hellbent on destroying the economy and the Middle and Working classes, and making us a functional satrapy of China and Davos as a nation of gray men and women living out violence enforced, unfulfilled lives eating bugs in a pod?
Cuz that's what the Progtards are offering us.

2) Or, would most people prefer a tyrannical government, something along the lines of Singapore, that's based in national populism, societal norms, strict, swift punishment for crime, good, delicious food and plenty of it, a functioning economy with jobs and a future for your kids and grandkids. with teaching that concentrates on the 3R's instead of woke twisting of your child's mind, future, and body?

Yeah, if we can't have America back or mostly back, I suspect most people would gladly take Option 2 any day of the week.

I think that "Sorry, but no, I am here to talk about a disaster and that is not part of the scope for this press conference" - which is essentially what he said - is fine in general.

What is decidedly *not* fine is that the Republican leader of the Senate has no public position or statement about this. It's been days now. He could have - and should have - written a statement by now and that statement should have been a fullt-throated condemnation of the obvious corrupt political machinations targeting a political enemy.

His statement at the press conference isn't really a problem. His lack of any position or defense, however, is. Zero excuse for him to not be hollering from the rooftops about it.

478 >>How many Democrats are closet Republicans? Fuking none

I think this is the wrong way to look at. It's not about party for most of these people when they get to DC, it's about becoming part of the permanent establishment or remaining true to your constituents.

That's what we are seeing with this Trump incident. Frankly, it's what we saw throughout his presidency and before. We have a permanent ruling class for whom elections are merely a pro forma exercise every few years where they promise to do things like "I'll build the darn wall" and then promptly go back to DC and ignore us.

The color revolution in Ukraine was run by the permanent establishment of bureaucrats and politicians on both sides of the aisle and it continues to this day. The attempted takedown of Trump and the rigged 2020 election were the same. Democrats, particularly todays Democrats, are much more all in on a powerful centralized government so they naturally vote in lockstep to feed the beast. We have some on our side who believe in small, limited government and giving people the power and finding them is the key. The rest wear an R only for convenience sake.

Harari’s remarks were made in an interview with Chris Anderson, the head of TED, published on Tuesday. He assessed widespread contemporary disillusionment among “common people” as being rooted in a fear of being “left behind” in a future run by “smart people.” Such fears are justified, he added, given his projection that emerging technologies will displace economic needs to many categories of existing work:

Geez, it's like I don't even know you people any more.

516 Few years back, Wyoming GOP was handing a open senate seat to Cheney. She declined because she wanted power in the House.

Could you imagine this bitch right now in the Senate? with 4 years left on a term

518 I doubt Trump would intentionally allow agents the opportunity to rifle his wife's underwear, even for a clever operation. No one sane would sanction that.

519 WSJ annihilated that reasoning in an editorial.

It's about time they do something.

520 "Some rogue agents in the Feeb underestimated the political impact of raiding the president house and didn't bother running it up the chain" is perhaps the most egregious lie they've asked us to swallow in the last seven years.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to agree with this reaction. The idea that the FBI raiding the former president's residence would have anything but spectacular news impact is INSANE. This is like Wray coming to Congress after the leak of the Symbols of Violent Domestic Extremism document and claiming "Uh, I'm not familiar with that document" Bullshit. This response - if you actually believe it (and you shouldn't) - indicates that your are so incredibly incompetent at your job that you should resign in disgrace on the spot.
524 Harari’s remarks were made in an interview with Chris Anderson, the head of TED, published on Tuesday. He assessed widespread contemporary disillusionment among “common people” as being rooted in a fear of being “left behind” in a future run by “smart people.” Such fears are justified, he added, given his projection that emerging technologies will displace economic needs to many categories of existing work:
These are idiots selling the same old snake oil in new bottles. AI is to actual intelligence as an artificial flower is to a real flower, they look the same, and they can even be made to smell the same, but until artificial flowers breed artificial plants I'm not worried about AI.
20 years ago I realized that you aren't going to do better than a human brain given the materials in the universe. The human brain has about the same processing power as 10^11 IBM PCs while consuming 40 watts of power. Sorry, silicon is never going to match that.
525 So, all I hear from Republicans is that lines have been crosses, rule of law bullshit, yada yada yada. Jesse Waters tried pressing Josh Hawley about the lack of Republican outrage and he danced around the question and suggested impeaching Garland. More talk, no action, fuck all the GOP.
530 I read some from the top article above the fold in JJ's morning report, "Soldiers for the Gender Revolution".
Ruffo sites GSA as the top org of orgs working to turn our children into the freaks we see on Libs of TikTok. The GSA working doc Ruffo offers sites a CDC doc - the results of a "Study" they did on our system of oppression and it's effects on the woke kids.
https://tinyurl.com/yc4rx8jk
That looks like propaganda, which brings me to my point. The CDC may be the real queen of this twisted hive. Maybe we should look at emasculating the CDC.
531 I have one question for all of you fine folks at Ace:
Why has Ron DeSantis - everyone's favorite over Trump - not come in support of the leader of the republican party who resides in his state?
He never mentions Trump directly in support or otherwise. Donors anyone?
We love DeSantis, but we know he belongs to donors on the national stage. Trump doesn't, which is why the non-stop government persecutions happen.
532 13 Someone might want to do a welfare check on Liz Cheney.
----
I take it you mean how many fake voter IDs she's running to collect welfare benefits?
At least 20 would be my guess, but that's because she's a Republican. A Dem would be running double that for starters, a rookie warming up, if you will.
535 JJ, with all due respect (and I mean it), WHY does President Trump have to "watch his statements" when his supporters are constantly called flattering names like fascists, homophobes, bigots, white supremacists, racists and so forth, by hardcore leftists, the Democrats, the media, the entertainment community, RINOS and academia?
George W Bush left the White House in 2009 with an approval rating of 29%. He spent 8 years "watching his words" while all the above mentioned suspects lambasted him (some fairly and soms unfairly). And he endured nowhere near the desperate hate, vitriol and unfair/unlawful attempts at removing him from office by even members of his own party.
What you (and a lot of conservative pundrity) seem unable to grasp, is that Donald Trump is in great part beloved because he verbally and vocally slaps back at all the outrageous, indecent, untrue and hateful rhetoric constantly showered at him and his supporters and WE LOVE HIM FOR IT!
And when President Trump was forced out of office due to an fraudulent election coup, he left office with a 51% approval rating!
Bottom line - being the "bigger person" when you need to fight in the pit is a losing strategy.
