The Morning Report — 8/5/22

seedick.jpg

Good morning, kids. The weekend is here and I'm going to get to the effluent from Dick Cheney's filthy, running sewer because what he said in that ad for his festering bedsore of a daughter is more than just risibly infuriating, it is dangerously chilling. But, as it happens on more than one occasion while coagulating (hat tip Norm Crosby) the links for this report, something just jumps out that makes what's left of my hair hurt yet is just oh so revelatory in its way about the predicament we're in.

A group of Republican lawmakers put forth a proposal on Thursday that it says would relieve student debt crisis without using taxpayer dollars to fund a massive debt forgiveness program.

The Responsible Education Assistance Act would limit the amount of interest borrowers could accumulate on federal student loans to help them more effectively pay back their loans. Rep. Virginia Foxx (R., N.C.), who co-sponsored the bill with Reps. Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.) and Jim Banks (R., Ind.), said the bill will help in-need Americans without shifting debt onto taxpayers. . .

. . . Experts say the Democratic proposals to forgive student loan debt fail to address the underlying issues that led to the current situation. If [so-called quote-unquote "president"] Joe Biden instituted his loan forgiveness plans, Americans would hold the same amount in three years as today, the Free Beacon reported in July.

The Republican bill takes a different route: the proposal would cap interest on federal student loans after 10 years, in order to help borrowers pay down their principal. It would also cap the amount of money students could borrow from the federal government and block the secretary of education from imposing costly student loan forgiveness plans without congressional approval.

The "underlying issues that led to the current situation" were Democrat-led governmental interference in the free market that encouraged graft, greed and sloth at every level by all involved. Like everything else and every other issue, the Democrats are the ones that call the tune and define the terms so that all the GOP can do is whimper and moan that they have a better and slightly cheaper solution that only exacerbates the problem by making America poorer and less free. As intended. How about proposing this, rising superstar conservative Elise Stefanik?

Debtors? If you took out a student loan, you will pay it back or else suffer the consequences of being a deadbeat.

OR

Universities? You are owed the money so the "forgiveness" angle is on you. Billions of dollars in your endowments so fork it over and "forgive." I'm told forgiveness is like a tranny: "Divine."
OR

Banks? Stop lending money to people who can never pay it back just because you hope or think Uncle Sugar is going to step in and give you your due (yeah, I know, the Hank Paulson/US government strong-arming in the wake of 2008 and that is another story entirely though not unrelated).

Channeling Richard Belzer a bit with his solution, "Hey, school lunch program? Eat fucking tree bark." It sounds cruel but I'm at that point where you gotta be cruel to be kind, so to speak. Again, it's called personal responsibility which goes hand in hand with freedom. In other words "conservatism." Look at that list of names in this proposal. These are the alleged next wave of conservatives that's going to take back the party and move us back to first principles? Not with shit like this.

And now for something completely different, though not entirely on a macro level. Dick Cheney cut an ad for his flailing and failing daughter's campaign. Did the ad pump up whatever attributes or achievements she has had for the people of her district? No. It was a rehash of the very things that have made her campaign and political future go right down the crapper. And a hell of a lot worse:

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” so says former Vice President Dick Cheney in a campaign ad released Thursday for his daughter’s floundering re-election campaign.

Cheney bases this assessment on his claim that Trump is a liar. According to Cheney, Trump is “a coward” and not a “real man” because “a real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters.”

Would a “real man” lie to the world? That’s what Dick Cheney did. . .

. . . As many as 306,000 civilians and troops died in the Iraq War, and roughly three million Iraqis were displaced as refugees. The true scope of the devastation can never be known. . .

. . . Think of all the service members who died because of Cheney’s lies.

Think of all the veterans who came home forever scarred because of Cheney’s lies.

Think of all the American children who grew up without fathers or mothers because their parents were serving in a war launched because of Cheney’s lies.

Think of all the innocent Iraqis who watched their homes destroyed, their country plundered, and their world turned upside down all because of the lies of Dick Cheney and his mini-me George W. Bush. The fallout from their lies will be felt for generations.

But Dick Cheney wants us to believe that Donald Trump is “a greater threat to our republic” than anyone else in all our 246-year history.

Dick Cheney really is a war-pig, as is the entire military industrial complex that has gotten fat on the blood and treasure of Americans as well as civilians where it decided it needed an un-winnable war. I have to stop myself and marvel at the fact that I'm sounding like Oliver Stone circa 2003. And yet the truth is the truth, albeit in that regard alone. But as I stated above, the reason this ad chills me to the bone is because it's not just a threat, it's a warning:

If Donald Trump somehow is even allowed to run barring a kangaroo court conviction and by some miracle if the election is not rigged like it was last time, he will never be allowed to serve. It's bad enough when Molotov cocktails are hurled by BLM/Antifa terrorists. What Dick Cheney said in that ad is a direct warning shot across the bow at Trump.

Worse, it is a threat and really a promise:

Should Donald Trump run and win in 2024, he is going to be physically taken out by the State.

No longer the Deep State but now simply THE STATE. They're out in the open, in our face and they not only don't care if you know it, they want you to know it. By the way, it applies with equal force to anyone they feel is threat to their power who wins in 2024. Frankly, I cannot see any administration, even if it's staffed top to bottom and inside out with Trumps and DeSantises and Judge Roy Beans, as being able to really do anything to halt the inexorable Leftist surge over the cliff. Our entire system is so corrupt and so embedded with Leftist bureaucrats who wield the real power that any attempt to wrest control back is at best a fool's errand (see this Daniel Greenfield piece).

Some are experiencing schadenfreude over Christopher Wray getting grilled on Capitol Hill but what, if anything, is going to happen to him and his underlings who are nothing more than political hit men with a badge? They're part and parcel of that very bureaucracy as Chuck "Schemer" Schumer boasted can get you "nine ways to Sunday," which is precisely what they did to Trump in 2016 and for sure in 2020. The whole damned thing is rotten, top to bottom. Secession, national divorce, Balkanization? Or us or them? This shit cannot go on. There cannot be an American restoration when there is still an evil entity in the guise of a political party and movement whose mission is absolute power and the destruction of America. And since America was founded as a free society, the paradox of including safeguards that would be anti-constitutional in preventing that evil force from participating in political processes, means we can't really go back to what was lest we risk a lather-rinse-repeat of the past century.

Or, we need a massive campaign of deprogramming/deBolshevization. And that's not going to happen unless we get our "hair mussed" as General Buck Turgidson would say, on a pretty big scale.

By the way, Senator Kinky Boots got bought off too. QED.

Have a good weekend and happy Atomic Bomb Drop Day tomorrow.

9 Should Donald Trump run and win in 2024, he is going to be physically taken out by the State.

Who wrote that essay bit? - If he runs, he will not win. If he wins, he will not be allowed to take the oath. If he takes the oath, he will not be allowed to serve.

Take it FWIW, but IMO, perhaps Trump should, once he wins the nomination (if he does), make this a centerpiece of his campaign - "make no mistake, friends, the State does not want me to win, and it certainly does not want YOU to win. Prepare for anything and remember your Constitutional rights."

Anyway, no more time to comment this morning, perhaps not at all today. Really bad day at work.

Nothing. Christopher Wray won during that hearing. He showed up, sauntered in, refused to answer questions meaningfully, prevaricated for a while, then glanced at his watch and dismissed himself with what essentially a, "yeah, I'm done playing and I have way more important shit to do than talk to a bunch of useless senators. See ya," move. He walked out of that chamber and onto his plane. He not only didn't cooperate with the investigation as is normal (the normal move being to pretend to care and show ersatz respect while spouting obvious lies to Congress), he spit on their floor, waved his dick around and then left.

I am actually somewhat grateful that this happened. Congressional inquiries and hearings are pointless and stupid and full of liars doing a stuffy ballet of deceit. Wray took a shortcut on all that and showed the Senate for what they are: pointless, powerless and useless.

75 Take it FWIW, but IMO, perhaps Trump should, once he wins the nomination (if he does), make this a centerpiece of his campaign - "make no mistake, friends, the State does not want me to win, and it certainly does not want YOU to win. Prepare for anything and remember your Constitutional rights."

Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at August 05, 2022 07:42 AM (AW0uW)

This would actually be an excellent idea. Not just because it's true, but because it reinforces that Donald Trump is a massive threat to the Epsteinite power structure. Ron DeSantis can prove himself, but merely suspending Soros minions doesn't inspire me the way Trump has.

But I don't mind either way. Let them go after Trump. He's not just protecting us from them: he's protecting them from us. If anything happens, their last line of legitimacy is down. So bring it.

78 Front Page Magazine writes a lot of weird stuff. A good example is todays 3,000 word movie review of Fake Pope Francis' flawed election. Their point is that his ascendency to the papacy didn't follow the letter of canon law, and is therefore invalid, and Francis is a heretic. Strong words.

Won't it be (darkly) humorous if Benedict outlives Frankie?

79 Higher education finance needs to be overhauled. As for the people stuck in the system now, too damn bad. You signed the contract and you're stuck with it. I could see supporting an interest-accumulation cap as a compromise, but no forgiveness and no changing of terms.

Going forward, though, massive reform. Pick a date - say May 15 of 2023 or something like that - and impose new rules as of that date. New rules like the federal government exiting the student loan business, full removal of federal support for higher education students (all grants and scholarships and the like - all direct student support, in its entirety), removal of federal grants to any university for any reason if the project has any Chinese nationals or the university has Chinese-sponsored or Chinese national directors and removing the bankruptcy exemption for student loans.

It'll be messy. Enrollments will plummet. A lot of universities outside the Tier 1 group will go bankrupt. Budgets will be cut to the bone. The big dogs will still be big dogs, but the rest will fall. Five years from now, there will be new schools and costs will probably fall by 50% or more.

If they don't, DeSantis does. Primaries/caucuses always have lower turnout than elections, so who turns out will decide it.

The one exception was Judge Bork's appearance while under consideration for the Supreme Court. On that account they may very well succeed.

The Republicans passed their tax cuts that will expire so they could use it to hold people hostage and force them to re-elect Republicans for fear of losing it. It was a cynical and craven move. I am all for universal sunsetting, but this was tactical sunsetting to have a built-in campaign issue in the future. It's sleazy. It isn't evil like the Dems, but that doesn't mean it's visionary. It's exactly the same thing the Dems do with student loan forgiveness - use it as the stick.

Student loan forgiveness - a transfer of wealth from non college educated to college educated wealthy whites.

Japan didn't have the bomb. They might now, but they didn't then. Keep in mind that while we did get it, it was the result of the largest unified industrial operation in the history of man. The Manhattan Project's scale is unfathomable, and the Japanese couldn't do it. They were severely resource-constrained and couldn't fuel or finance such an operation. The home islands were never flush with resources, even at the peak of Imperial Japanese power in the Pacific. There is no way the Japanese had the bomb back in the 40s.

132 Ironic, really, that Dick Cheney called Donald Trump a "Coward".

Keep in mind dear readers, Donald Trump didn't need to run for President. I'm quite certain he would have been happy living his best life as a wealthy real estate guy, playing golf at one of his courses, spending time with his beautiful wife and family, etc.

Running for office as a Republican, he immediately, practically overnight, became Domestic Enemy Numero Uno, as if a switch had been thrown. And he had to know that going in.

Part of the problem with today's politics, is the kind of executive and business leaders needed in government - the people who actually know how to do stuff, who understand things, they want nothing to do with politics, and far too often the people who do, have no business anywhere near the levers of power.

I'd argue Cheney has it exactly wrong - it took a hell of a lot of courage to take on the slings and arrows of both the Republican and the Democrat Establishment, the Media, The intelligence agencies, the foreign governments, the media ...

The guy is a force of nature, you don't have to like the guy, but he'd never run for public office before.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger at August 05, 2022 08:12 AM (+JIgU)

Neither, usually. Student loans are usually issued to the student. I went through that rigmarole before the government takeover, so it might have changed, but only one of my lenders disbursed directly to the university. Most of my loans landed in my checking account, and I then cut a check to the university.

143 Not just Trump, DeSantis will be taken out too -- or the attempt made. I have no doubt about it. We've crossed the Rubicon, or at least the oligarchy has, and every premise we've ever held about the social compact (premises the Republicans cling to out of fear and denial) have been shattered and lie in shards at our feet. The enemy cares less and less each day about exposure or reprisal and will not stop unless and until it is made to stop.
Posted by: Ordinary American at August 05, 2022 08:08 AM (H8QX

True, but now that Hispanics support Trump (?!) the cabal has to be genuinely panicking. The goal was to divide America and flee for "safe" areas like New Zealand and London during the chaos. Many residents of the USA hate Trump, of course, but they're overwhelmingly the soft-handed, unarmed, unprepared urbanites. Of course there is no shortage of LEOs and soldiers ready to take the cabal's shilling, but they'll be needed just to secure strongholds like NYC and Washington.

So don't worry. We can do without the CDC and the EPA. Hell, destroying the FBI to the last man can only benefit the country.

There will be a primary, and the media won't suddenly be at her back. They'll promote the far left, Hispanic, tranny that demands that Sinema cut off her tits because she's not an actual woman, and considering the Democratic base and primary voting patterns, this tactic will potentially succeed.

195 About Student Loans:

When students take out student loans, the university needs to have them need to sit down with someone from the university and go over repayment plans, and the costs of repaying the loan. Right now, you fill out a FAFSA and Bob's your uncle: MONEY!

And it is not enough to just sit there and have them nod their head while they listen to the student loan counselor -- they need to do actual homework, so it SINKS INTO THEIR BRAIN.

The student loan counselor needs to go over different scenarios: Different payback periods, different monthly payment amounts, and the principle vs interest amount. Compare payback amounts to projected salaries. There is s ton of information about salaries out there.

I am willing to bet that most people taking out, say, a $50,000 student loan think that they will be paying back $50,000 plus a little interest. Not $50,000 principle plus vast quantities of interest.

I met someone getting an MSW from NYU, NYU is expensive as hell! And social workers do not get paid a lot of money. She should have gone to CUNY or someplace. It is insane.

Depends on sector. Net private employment is finally positive as compared to February 2020, but a lot of sectors are still in the tank, namely in hospitality which is still *way* off and in "government employment" which is still off by about a half million. Most of the recent growth has been in leisure/hospitality (which is still in deficit) and almost the entire net positive move has been in "professional and business services," which is a huge category. A lot of companies have been in a hiring boom, but the first warning shots on that have been coming from Big Tech. Layoffs and likely net staffing reduction are going to happen later this year or in the first half of next year. Big Tech will be a big player in that, but they will not be the only one.

Is it better to promise people to do something permanent at some point in the future and pass another in a long series of deferments, or is it better to cancel the debt?

382 All ballot language should be tested by having 13 year-old public school students with C-average or better grades from schools ranking in the upper two qunitiles of all schools in the state, randomly selected.

The students must read the ballot language and then re-articulate what it means and what a "yes" or "no" vote entails. If greater than 85% of the students are unable to re-articulate the ballot question and correctly identify what will happen in the event of passage or non-passage on their first attempt to do so, the ballot language is rejected.

440 It sounds cruel but I'm at that point where you gotta be cruel to be kind, so to speak. Again, it's called personal responsibility which goes hand in hand with freedom. In other words "conservatism." Look at that list of names in this proposal. These are the alleged next wave of conservatives that's going to take back the party and move us back to first principles? Not with shit like this.

You are raging at the wind, Sefton. Conservatism is not personal responsibility. It's "gibzmedat" but with a veneer of "I worked for it." or "I'm entitled to it!"

The 4 Pillars of Conservatism are:

Welfare for American Citizens
Government Schooling (with pensions!)
Government Jobs
Government Retirement

August 5, 1900 - The first automobile race in the west took place at the Fair Grounds. (Fairgrounds Park) Five vehicles took part, at a time when there were 25 autos in the entire city. It was reported more would have participated if not for the condition of the roads. In the 1 ½ mile race, John L. French came in first with his gasoline powered vehicle. The second and third place finishers drove electric cars.

I'd be in favor of taking this approach to ALL legislation.

It would expose the failures of the education system (the literacy rate is pretty poor and only gets worse the further the students get into high school).

It would also prevent legislation from being passed if it's not comprehensible to today's 13-year-old students.

I don't think we'll ever dig ourselves out of this mess until we acknowledge those blind spots - because we'll continue to back the wrong players if we don't own those mistakes. Pisses me off too, but then you realize and hear shit like this that reminds you, and it is practically a daily occurrence the warnings for Trump/us by the "left" including the GOPe. I for once would like the commenters here that grumble constantly about Trump not draining the swamp to explain what they think the swamp/Deep State/left would have done in response if Trump even began to "drain" it' People that get upset about what Trump didn't do seem to gloss right over this scenario then claim, oh you're making excuses, can't criticize Trump, etc. No you need to explain to the people that see what is obvious, if the Trump admin had started taking these people out, what it would be labeled as by the left AND the GOPe, and how you think they would have reacted and dealt with Trump. They tell us daily what would have happened, it's plain as day if you stop, listen instead of marveling at how uber conservative you are in comments bitching about what Trump didn't do.

The worst thing you could objectively say about Donald Trump is his demeanor was unpresidential and diminished the offices and his policies were bad [eta: I don’t really care about the first, and disagree with the second statement.] He’s not a “threat to the republic” or any of the other insane rantings his putatively thoughtful enemies indulge.

What’s really at the root of this is the ruling class believes THEY are the United States of America. And the people who won’t go along with their agenda anymore (aka the folks who put Trump in office) are a national security threat.
