Texas Now Produces More Oil Than Every Country in the World Besides Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq

The article is from 2019, but I found data from the US EIA (Energy Information Administration) that shows that in May, 2022 (the latest date figures are available), Texas pumped about 5 million barrels of oil per day (4,965,000), which is two and a half times as much as we produced 10 years ago. We're doing our part. How?

And this “energy miracle” in the Lone Star State has nothing to do with Obama’s recent delusional claims of his alleged contributions to America’s new position as the world’s No. 1 oil producer, and everything to do with the contributions of free-market capitalism, Yankee ingenuity, technological innovation, revolutionary drilling and extraction techniques supported by modern Made-in-the-USA equipment, and, most importantly, the contributions of America’s many risk-taking “petronpreneurs” who are the real “miracle workers” in America’s amazing energy success story.

Frankly, her politics suck, but whoever she is she's a very talented writer, I literally laughed out loud in a couple of places.

In an early primary debate, Biden had lifted—almost word for word—a speech off a British Labour politician named Neil Kinnock. This included telling the audience that he was the first person in his family to go to college in “a thousand generations” (taking the lineage back to Cro-Magnon Biden), and that he came from a family of coal miners. That no one in his family had worked in a mine and that there were college graduates on his mother’s side of the family were the least of his problems.

Read it, it's amusing, and it's always interesting to see how the other side thinks. I will also give her props that in places she's willing to step back from fan-girling for anyone with a D by their name to acknowledge problems – the consequences of Clinton's crime bill and Kerry's anti-war lies, for example.

Noticed any food shortages lately?

What did the inspection entail? An absurd technique called “poke and sniff.” To find tainted meat, federal bureaucrats stuck little spikes into carcasses and then smelled the spikes.
If they smelled something spoiled, they ordered that meat discarded.
The process was ridiculous. The inspectors used the same spikes over and over, plunging them into multiple animals. Poking and sniffing sometimes made things worse by spreading disease from one carcass to the next.
Of course, governments often do ridiculous things, and regulators, once they start doing them, keep doing them. The feds didn’t stop “poke and sniff” until the late 1990s.
Today, USDA inspectors do a better job. They test for bacteria. But the inspection process is so cumbersome and expensive, many small companies can’t afford it.
The result, complained President Joe Biden recently, is too much market concentration: “Four big corporations control more than half the markets in beef, pork and poultry!”
His remedy, sadly, is to give your tax money to some smaller meatpackers.
Of course, such subsidies and regulations increase market concentration.
“The bigger the government, the bigger the corporations,” Massie points out. “People who don’t like big corporations haven’t figured that out.”

The name came from a famous player in the 1890s, Lou Sockalexis, so they are taking an honor away from an actual Indian with their efforts. At the store I ran into a coworker with whom I chatted, even though she looked at me funny. Got home, went to the restroom, looked in the mirror and saw the missing sock on my shoulder, where I had slung it while putting on the other sock. It was close enough to my neck with minimal front overhang that I didn’t see it in peripheral vision.

Abdominal pressure (seems right location to be large intestine) that goes away about 95% if I stop eating beef (pork, chicken, bacon seem ok, but ground turkey is meh and if I eat a bunch of actual cheese it returns.) Tested for two weeks and then ate white castle last night to check and symptoms returned (not real bad, but some.) Localized rash on my ankle (mostly right, but some on left.) Not painful. Not itchy. I thought it was a heat rash or detergent sensitivity, but I changed my detergent to one of those 'sensitive' brands with no fragrance and what have you and no observable difference.

What was the other one? Oh, right: Forgetfulness. Not real bad, but when I was looking at the symptoms I came across that one and was like 'Woah.'

one of the best/worst I've seen luckily didn't happen to me, I just witnessed it. A very nicely dressed, proper looking woman had to step out of the church service to use the facilities. I made it through numerous planings and deplanings and Customs and the rest of it, carefully the entire time. I rented a car to drive home the last 75 miles ... pulled into my parents driveway... stoped the car, and the unsecured flight bag full of beers rolled off the seat. $&@!!! It only broke a couple, but that was stupid.

Another time, I'd just made it back a two week road trip/hiking vacation, and stubbed my toe pretty hard as I walked in through the garage door. I figured God was letting me know I was really lucky on that trip, something like that.

Having lived there for a while, I suspect it's worse there because Arizona is an odd state where one city completely dominates State Politics, and the Political Establishment has always been a cozy little club going back as far as I can tell, to Territorial Days. (Jeff Flake and all of the Udall's are descended from powerful families from when the state was still a territory.) I think that made it easy for them to take it over and run it however they wished for decades. Now the MAGA people are trying to move in on the game, and they hate it.

Having lived there I have some idea.

If you have a lot of money you can live great in PR. If you don't you won't. Most houses near San Juan that can afford it have bars on the windows.

I greatly enjoyed visiting there a few years back. I imagine that if you stay in the middle to upper class gated areas and nice communities that have private security forces, you've got nothing to worry about. Get out into the badlands where the ferals live, and things are a bit dicier.

My similar experience was lighting the grill w/ gasoline. I ran out of light fluid and thought I'd be prudent and just add a little gas to a smoldering fire.

Well, as I poured the gas on the flames started up and ran up to the gas can. I tossed it and flames spewed out all over the backyard as the gas can rolled downhill..

No damage done, but it was exciting. WeirdDave, I think we must be related somehow. And TY for the ONT.

Her job was to keep track of all of the medicines the patients were to take overnight. Made me curious, so I looked it up. Looks like PR *used* to be very restrictive, and major overhaul of the gun laws was passed in 2020 and now they are much more like most states. I believe you still need a license to carry, but PR now honors any right-to-carry licenses from the States.

I worked with a sweet woman from Costa Rica. Couldn't have been a nicer person and I met lots of nice people in PR but there also some of the worst you ever want to meet. That's how it tends to be in the islands.

Not much in StL worth driving there for, except maybe baseball. I spent six long years there getting my master's degree, and I have to say I have never been anywhere so parochial and racist in my life. I had never seen that before, and it was quite the shock. Like, I didn't realize there were black tables at food service and white tables. Nor did I particularly care, but the black folks did not take kindly to me sitting there by accident. Sorry.

They poured oil all over themselves and scraped it off with scrigyl, which is sort of like a comb but without spaces between the prongs. I can't see how that would do much except clog up your pores, but over time I suppose your skin would adjust.

438 Could be interesting rivalry. I think Kuemper was just a placeholder in net for the Avs. I think Georgiev has more potential to be a number one goalie who can win games when the D-corps is off their game. Could make the Avs a tough out next year with the core pretty much intact.

Flames don't have anyone as good as Makar, but our top 4 with Weegar is stronger. Markstrom is about as good as anyone in net (usually, he was way off against the Oil Stains). Our D is about 9-10 deep right now, need to trade someone for for that 2/3 C I mentioned and then I think we'd have a series.

In 1986 I had made a quick software driver fix to what today we would call a NAS RAID-5 storage server. This was at the Minnesota Supercomputer Center. The server was an IBM mainframe that provided all the permanent file storage for three Cray supercomputers. It was 4 a.m., and I was tired, so and didn't bother to test the fix first. I IPL'ed the mainframe and deadstarted the Crays and waited.

It turned out that I had accidentally inverted the logic for 'read' and 'write' in the low-level IBM I/O driver for the RAID disk arrays.

Yeah.

Worst night of my life. Fortunately my boss was able to fix the zapped Unix superblocks. When he finished he gave a hard look and then went back to bed without saying another word.

They fail precisely because of what they stand for (corruption and communism) not because they are too short.

I have met, I'm gonna say maybe 2-3 dudes in my life that I swear biology completely fucked up and stuck a chick in a man's body. They were male, but there was absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing male about them. Not their choice of cars, their music, their interests, their voice, their mannerisms, zip, nadda. Those people I can see wanting to transition and for good reason. I am 100% dude, there isn't a single female atom in my body. If I was to wake up tomorrow with a woman's body i would lose.. my..fucking..shit, well maybe after playing with my tits for a bit (lol), but I would do everything possible to get my male body back. Plane ran Bingo fuel off of Ethiopia, crew fought 'jakers for control, but at the last seconds, one of them got hands on the yoke, and banked the plane left, wingtip digging into the waves. We've seen the rest on video, of course.

Forget the survivor count, but it was about 1/3 to 1/2 those present in the cabin. Not one damn thing wrong with the plane, other than brainfucked hadjis in the cockpit.

But, I can sit in the same booth, fuck the frequencies, and because the ear is still delivering *all* the bandwidth to the brain, still hear everything THROUGH the tinnitus. Which is always there. But I can still differentiate an audiophile's LP from one system to the next, or LP to CD.

Okay, This is really embarrassing, but I'll share a big D'oh moment (and I have many). Last year, late September, hubs is sleeping on the couch and I am happily typing away on the blog. I decide that it's time to go to bed, so I leave hubs on his couch with a rerun of the Red Sox game. I head to the bathroom to perform my nightly ablutions and reach on the shelf to grab some artificial tears since I suffer with severely dry eyes. I put a drop in one eye and the pain was immediate and intense, I look at the bottle and it is not artificial tears at all. No, it is a substance called Poo Pourri, that someone had placed on the shelf. I totally freaked out, flushed my eyes repeatedly with water but the pain wouldn't quit. So now I figure that I have blinded myself in one eye, will have to attend the MoMe as a cyclops. to be continued

577 I hear exactly what you mean. My hearing is ok. Mostly. Until the tinnitus blasts loud for some reason. Sometimes i barely notice it other times the reeeeeeyyyyeeee takes over. The pitch changes too. Mine related to enlisted time. (Navy is loud no matter what you did ) Also related to my neurological issues.

578 So I leave hubs on the couch and drive myself to the ER which is a short ride away. The Doc took one look at the bottle and said that it should never be packaged like that, it looks too much like eyedrops. So anyway, long story short, the substance in my eye contained perfume, botanicals and industrial strength disinfectant. They had to put a contact lens in my eye and flush it out with a whole bag of some solution. At the end of it all they said that they would call one of my kids to come pick me up and I was adamant in refusing that, they already have one parent with Alzheimer's, they don't need another.

579 Its a wonder I don't have tinnitus. I spent years...YEARS playing with drummers with snare drums that sound like gun shots, and in front of some loud ass amps. The high end of my hearing is a little shot so all I can think of is whatever part of the ear that causes tinnitus I probably killed that too.

584 To be young young a stupid again. Never gave the loud shit i put myself through any thought. Shipyards, data center work (90 db+ for hours everyday for years)pump rooms, guns. Add in neurological complications. bam tinnitus is my companion now. Left and right are different frequencies with a tone that modulates amplitude slightly on top of the main tone in my right ear. Wear your hearing protection!

Regardless, somehow, I have the power to steamroll it, when needed. But, it is ALWAYS there, it never does "switch off" like it does for others. A constant, baseline tone, I don't even bother with it anymore.

593 I suppose I have to add my two cents to the hearing thing. I am completely deaf in my right ear...though tinnitus is evident constantly there anyhow.

I receive modest disability for the hearing loss as Service Related. The VA has provided me with hearing aids, which are a mixed blessing, as you folk have pointed out, in noisy environments, they just make things even worse. Cacophony.

An oddity is that the R. ear hearing aid (the deaf side) just transmits everything to the L. ear. Thus, a noise on the R. is heard in the L. A little disorienting at times.

Geez, this thing looked 2x the size of the usual wasp. I killed it, never mind how, then praised Stirling and gave him a kitty treat.

Almost all people in that workshop were women. And, identified as women.
Now, years later, a team that went TWICE in recent years to the World Series (thus, fulfilling Major League's prophetic dream), is caving. This is a franchise that hung in there through DECADES of losing seasons, poor management, and STILL had rabid fans (I was once one such).
The hell with them. I won't spend another dime to see a game.
