Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

image_6483441.jpg

(H/T Doof)

***

Happy Saturday to you. Just a couple of rules. Yes, those pesky things.

1) Opine and/or bloviate away in this open thread.
2) No running with sharp objects.
3) Be nice to one another.
4) Have a Nice Weekend, if you so choose. Far be it from me to tell you what kind of weekend to have.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

5/28 – FortWorthMike requests prayers for his grandniece, Chloe, and her family, to find a kidney to transplant. Chloe is a toddler who has been on this prayer list before, and it has helped her. She was born with bad kidneys and had them removed soon after birth. She’s had multiple health issues, and is now getting daily dialysis at home. Her mother’s kidneys aren’t a match, and her father’s are a match, but are too large for her little body. Thanks for your prayers!

5/28 – Ladyl requests prayers for a very special person in her life who has been diagnosed with a fairly treatable leukemia. Although Mike is over 29, he is nonetheless a young man. She would appreciate prayers for complete healing and optimal management of his disease.

5/29 – MammaB is off work for several weeks per her doctor’s instructions for mental health. She is supposed to go back on Tuesday and is an apprehensive wreck. Between her dad’s death in January, having Chinese covid twice since then, and her bipolar, she feels overwhelmed. But she is the sole wage early (PapaB is on disability for early onset dementia) and unemployment isn’t an option. Any prayers would be appreciated.

5/31 – Prayers are needed for Fenelon Spoke, who had surgery this week for cancer. She is recovering at home.
6/8 Update – The good news is that they seem to have caught all her cancer. It was stage one, so she is thanking God and is grateful for all the prayers of the horde.

6/1 – Prayers are requested for a 3-year-old named Eli, who just had 2 brain surgeries for a rare vascular condition. Please pray for Eli’s recovery.
6/4 Update – Eli has woken up after surgery and is starting to show hopeful signs. The family is grateful for the prayers and asks them to continue.
6/11 Update – Eli is sitting up and eating real food. They are optimistic for his full recovery.

6/2 – Prayers are needed for Squid, whose life has imploded over the last twelve hours, and any prayers for peace would be greatly appreciated.
6/3 Update – Squid says thanks for the prayers - it will get better.

6/4 – vmom stabby stabby stabby stabby stabamillion asks for prayers for her hubby, whose recent PSA blood test showed higher PSA levels than before. Please pray that it’s not something bad.
6/11 Update – Hubby is a-ok, per the doctor.

6/4 – Anti doesn’t matter asks for comfort for her mother. Her mother is now hospitalized and is now on a ventilator, positive for Covid, after 2 at-home negative Covid tests. Her mother also has congestive heart failure, and with the Covid protocols, there is concern that her heart condition might not be treated properly.
6/10 Update – Anti doesn’t matter’s mother passed away.

6/6 – Fox2! requests prayers for his niece-in-law, Courtney, who is expecting a son in August, but has been in preterm labor for the last 3 weeks.

6/7 – Fenelon Spoke asks for prayers for her son to (God willing) get a job for the summer, before he transfers (again, God willing) to finish up his four-year degree in agricultural studies.

6/7 – Teresa in Fort Worth asks for prayers for Natasha and her family. Teresa was at the airport, waiting for a flight, when Natasha received a phone call that her son had just died. Natasha was on her way to visit her hospitalized son, and he died of Sickle Cell before she could get there. Natasha was extremely upset, so Teresa in Fort Worth stayed with her until Natasha’s husband could get there. Please pray for the son’s family, too, as he and his wife have a 1 year old daughter, Gigi.

6/9 – Robert requests that everyone pray that he develops common sense – maybe sometime before he hits 50?

6/10 – Notsothoreau asks for prayers for whig, who is getting monoclonal antibody treatment to try to restart whig’s immune system.

6/13 – USNtaim asks for prayers for his brother, who burned his feet (3rd degree burns). He has no feeling in his feet, so didn’t know he was burning them on hot concrete, or how bad the burns were. He was sent to ER, and put on IV antibiotics to treat the infection creeping up his legs. On top of this, he’s in the middle of a divorce.
6/14 Update – He is headed home, since the antibiotics are working and his feet will heal.

6/16 – Dave in Fla asks for prayers for Mark, who just passed away. It appears he died from heart failure. He was a lurker here and a commentor at Stoaty’s site. He was gay, a passionate conservative, and a heck of a nice guy. He was from WI and lived in London.

6/16 - Lurker James ask for prayers his depression medication has been changed to a different kind.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

41 I just accidentally shut Stirling the Crazy Black Kitten into the refrigerator. Only for about 10 seconds. It's his fault; he follows me over there and wants to leap inside. This time I shut the door, turned back to the coffee maker, and realized there was no kitten romping around on the floor. I grabbed him and tossed him (lightly) back over near his toys.

Thurs. night I took some pics of him for the Pet Thread, but when I sent them from my phone to my work email, they never arrived. Maybe I need to log in again to my work email on my phone before I can send anything.

The PGA can suck my balls. They don't give a damn about the sport or any of the players. And their bullshit about "tradition" is just a steaming pile of horseshit since they jack around the schedule every four years to accommodate those Olympic fuckheads.

The USGA which runs the Open, and does it their way, is the only governing body worth respecting.

I've always had that same trouble with The X-Files show. Years ago when it was new, and again last night as CometTV was running one of the later (?) episodes. I heard Scully say something about "The X-Files is disbanded."

I guess it's that the show is not that quickly-paced, and there is very little humor in the eps I've seen. Buffy on the other hand grabbed me from the start and still does.

It won't happen, but I'd love to hear about a locker room scuffle between some of those guys. McIlroy's got a big mouth, and he really thinks his opinions about other people's business matters. A couple of those guys are big enough to teach him otherwise, if they choose to.

Isn't it interesting what politics ESPN chooses to push. I don't care about sports anymore, but I am interested in what ESPN pushes. It tells me something about the priorities of the political class.

73 I don't know why, where it showed up at church just recently, but I just added Romans 8:26-27 to my whiteboard along with Isaiah 43:1-3a and Jeremiah 29:11. I stop to read all of these before I head out to work.

Today I am putting some furniture together. I bought a bag of these single-decade rosary rings and have scattered them all around the house. If I see one in time, it minimizes the cussing and if I stop and inhale, I remember to pray for calm.

94 Hey horde, one of my longtime online friends - I think we've been hanging out for 15 years, lately even on zoom - is facing some upcoming hefty medical expenses.
So she posted this on our small blog and I'd like to share, if anyone is inclined to help with prayers or materially.

...I have waited, until extremities pretty much forced me to act, but as EM said, I just have to swallow my pride and do this. As a caregiver, I am one of those people that have difficulty asking for help. I wouldn’t ask, unless I needed to.
Looking at the medical expenses that will come up with hip surgery, including equipment and rearranging my house, and the tests my cardiologist wants me to have, I see that those costs will be more than I can do, on my income, and even with help from my son, who only recently is finally receiving partial disability for Gulf War Syndrome.
So I discussed this with my family, and doing a fundraiser seemed like a good solution.

The first victories of "feminist pioneers" were all the laws against abortion in the mid-1800s.

Back then it was known that men pushed women to do this to avoid scandal and the expense of raising an unwanted child. Lots of rhetoric about forcing mothers to murder their children.

Now of course, the most empowering thing you can do is let a guy avoid 18 years of child support. Great job, girls!

Part of me wonders if this isn't a rope-a-dope by Cocaine Mitch. Everyone wonders why he's caving, but he hasn't caved yet. He's just saying he will.

Which is enraging the GOP base, so they're all fired up, which is fine. None of the guys he's tapped to take the hit are up for election, which both makes it a credible cave, but one that he can back away from with no consequences. Two years from now, who will remember a vote that was never actually taken?

In the meantime, we know Schumer sucks at holding his caucus together and that the radicals in the House will settle for nothing short of full confiscation.

There is a possibility that Mitch feels it's better to pretend the caucus supports "reasonable measures" and watch the Dems blow it up than dig in and get blasted in the press.

One of the issues some are pushing about LIV golfers is that they are essentially accepting "blood money" from the House of Saud. I suppose this is in reference to the Saudi government's history of mass executions, public flogging of dissidents and whatnot.

Interesting note: last week, PGA golfers that made the cut in the Canadian Open accepted prized money funded in part by the Royal Bank of Canada who was the main sponsor of the event.

A few years ago, RBC played a rather prominent role as an underwriter in the Saudi government's IPO of stock in its Aramco oil company. I'm guessing RBC made some decent coin in that endeavor -- "blood money" if you will...

Yes --"Hush." Very effective. But Buffy was never about real horror; it was more of an adventure series with dramatic turns, a metaphor for high school and growing up. If nothing else, of course, there was that incomparable funny -- and sometimes truly affecting -- dialog.

"I've got news for you, Brain Trust. It doesn't work like that. You die, and a demon sets up shop in your old house, and it walks and talks and remembers your life -- but it's not you."

Glad to be of assistance. Unpatriotic my ass; nobody owes the PGA one fucking thing. I'm old enough to remember when Ben Hogan used to quietly loan other pros money to keep them afloat during hard times. Golf was a dog eat dog existence and mainly patronized by the country clubbers; not that there's anything wrong per se with that but the PGA's self serving descriptions are as much the product of fantasy as Disney.

I recall a study the Guttmacher Institute did in the 90s. The Guttmacher Institute is Planned Parenthood's research arm. They found that 90% of the women who'd had abortions didn't want one, but they "felt they had no choice".

Planned Parenthood's strategy is to determine what a pregnant mom's greatest worry is and then they use that to manipulate the mom into an abortion.

I can also tell you that many women are encouraged to abort just on general principles. Kinda creepy -- "I hear you're pregnant. You really need to take care of that. It might be bad for your career/you don't have the means to support a baby right now/your relationship with the dad is not stable/you're too young or old."

They are open to al viewpoints, though, most vociferously expressed by a lesbian schoolteacher and her column "Ye Gay Ol' Valley*" Since Heavy D began fighting back against the groomers, she has completely lost her shit, insisting in every column that no teacher anywhere is trying to groom kids and that gays face imprisonment or lynching every day in the US.

I ought to write a letter specifically mentioning this just to fry her little synapses.

255 gays face imprisonment or lynching every day in the US.
__________

The left loves doing this kind of gaslighting: screaming that we have to pass new "hate" laws, or whatever, because gays and trannies are routinely being attacked and murdered in such large numbers!!!

Of course, it's not even close to being true. U.S. crime statistics show that gays and trannies are actually assaulted at lower rates than heterosexuals are.

But the left saw how well this tactic worked for getting more power and money for blacks (BLM, etc.) a few years ago, so they're going to keep using it. Remember how the media was routinely screeching about how unarmed blacks were being hunted and killed by cops every day? It was a total lie, of course, and completely disproved by crime statistics, which show that only a handful of unarmed blacks are killed by cops each year, usually with justification.

But truth and facts didn't matter, only the left's preferred narrative, and they just kept repeating it as if it was true, and few questioned it.

And they're doing the exact same thing now with the LGBTQ crowd.

Gawd I use to love doing laundry on Saturdays when I lived in San Diego. There was a little laundromat, in Pacific Beach right across the street from "Cass St. Bar and Grill". Dump off my big bag of dirty clothes, and they would take care of the rest for .75 cents a pound. Then across the street I would go. What ever the daily special they had. The chief made an early morning run to the fish market at Point Loma side of the bay. Some cold beers, shoot some pool. Then pick up my folded clean clothes. It was a great set up.

347 Picture this: Live action remake of Pinky and the Brain, with Kummala Harris as Pinky, Valjar as the brain.

My plan is to put Biden on a bike, have him ride into an area where there's a truck carrying man-eating tigers, just as several chainsaw operators are in the trees above, and everyone in the neighborhood has their sprinkler systems coming on, and another truck carrying electric eels is coming from the other direction. As the truck drivers are distracted by the commotion of Biden's bike entourage, they crash into one another, thus crashing into the trees with the running chainsaws, that all start to rain down on Biden's head. Meanwhile the tigers and the eels get loose. If the tigers don't eat him, the eels will set off an electric charge through the sprinkler water, and he'll die of electrocution. Then WE will take over the world, Pinky!

Brilliant Brain! But oh, no no... how are we going to get the eels to operate the chainsaws if they don't have hands?

I don't even want to DRIVE 100 miles.
Posted by: Jordan61 at June 18, 2022 11:10 AM (DgWEj)

I did a 100 mile ride once after breaking my hand while playing soccer... I know, SHUT UP, I know you're not supposed to use your hands in soccer!

To say it was painful is quite the understatement. I was much younger then... and presumably dumber. Presumably.

397 You fools! His helmet was supposed to come off and he was supposed to get a concussion! "Oh, what a tragedy, we wish him all the best", and I would step in! Now, we have to start over!

Watch the movie, Sleeping Beauty. Observe the Maleficent character, and hear her say "you fools," and tell me you don't immediately think of Kummala Harris.

Depends. My Downs Syndrome Uncle, the best guy ever! btw, used to call those that deserved it 'retards' all the time.

Wow, he was a character.

I rode many miles back in the day, I recently bought a bike (should really be on it more than I am). I've never worn a helmet, I'm not going to start now.

How do you tell which one is Brad Pitt and which one is Matt Damon? They seem pretty interchangeable to me, aside from the capitalization.
