Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | CNN Guest Hall-of-Famer Michael Avenatti Gets Four Years in Prison for Defrauding His Client Stormy DanielsWhores If you're thinking, "Wasn't he just sentenced?," jinks, buy me a Coke. Yes he was. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years for extorting Nike. This is a separate sentence. Alas, he'll serve the sentences concurrently, because he's a Democrat. (That is, he'll serve his 2 1/2 years at the same time he's serving his four years -- in other words, the 2 1/2 years is a freebie. The January 6 defendants aren't getting this deal.) He sent a letter of apology to Daniels ahead of the sentencing -- an impending sentencing date can focus the conscience -- but the judge said it was "too little, too late." Avenatti spoke for 12 minutes at the sentencing, acknowledging the "series of mistakes" and "poor judgment" he exercised."Mistakes" like fraud ("Whoops!") and embezzlement ("Whoopsie!"). And regarding Nike: Oooooh, extorting a multibillion dollar corporation is tight! "I will forever be branded 'disgraced lawyer' and worse," he said.I hope he's branded The Belle of Cell Block B.

In a way, it makes sense. Because everything they do, everything they espouse, falls apart when confronted with simple basic human nature. If you believe humans are mostly flawed, selfish, dangerous creatures - as I do - the question doesn't become "how do I remove their tools to do evil" as the Left wishes. The question also doesn't become "how do I find the good ones, and give them power" as the Right wishes. Controlling the tools isn't the point. Controlling man also isn't the point, because those who wish to control are no better. Posted by: Reboot and Repeat at June 02, 2022 02:48 PM (Tcpjc) 388

Psychotropic drugs are a mixed bag, but I'd say Cruise was right in a skeptical "don't always trust the science" way. Psychotropic drugs are a mixed bag, but I'd say Cruise was right in a skeptical "don't always trust the science" way. Too many doctors and patients see the drugs themselves as the cure rather than the therapeutical process itself. Doubly so when you're dealing with public school sanctioned therapists and borderline teenagers.
Posted by: Walter Freeman at June 02, 2022 02:59 PM (4NlP1) It's not so much the "science" that is the problem so much as it is the humans, with their individual faults and agendas, helping, using the "science" as a shield for their patient/client abuse. Posted by: It's me donna at June 02, 2022 02:44 PM (bs+z0) Most big trucks hold 200 gallons so if you fill one tanks worth that's $689.00. If you make 10 miles/gal that comes out to cost of fuel at almost 0.70c/mile. I never got 10 miles/gal unless empty or bobtailing but that was a long time ago. Maybe new trucks can do better. just don't mention The War of Northern Aggression.
And that's a big, big part of the problem. We should re-fight The War of Northern Aggression, every day, in a rhetorical sense. Because it has everything that's important. If or when the Federal Government should over-rule the States. The notion of unintended consequences. The road to Hell being paved with good intentions. When is a ruler a hero or a tyrant. How you fall on these topics is important. Instead, we choose to ignore them. Why ? To bullshit ourselves that we're one big, happy family that agrees. We do not agree. We don't agree on things as basic as the relationship between citizen and state. We don't agree on if, when, or how a sub-collective should be able to peacefully leave the political body and assert their own freedom. @481: "... newfound conservative respect for Maher either."
Maher has always been a '90s type libertarian meaning marijuana decriminalization and legal gay marriage above all, but with a double scoop of contempt for religion on top. The latter has gotten him in trouble with progressives who lump Christianity in with white supremacy and demand unquestioning respect for all other religions instead; enemy of my enemy vibes there. It's great that he's calling out all the young woke buzzkills, but only 'cause they've replaced the '80s Religious Right in his worldview. If evangelical nanny types were still a threat to pop culture, then he wouldn't be saying half as much about Church Ladies on the left. Posted by: Walter Freeman at June 02, 2022 03:13 PM (4NlP1) 493
394 Wrong again.
It had nothing to do with the statute of limitations. It was because a Democrat judge ruled the information inadmissible. Posted by: JackStraw at June 02, 2022 02:46 PM (ZLI7S) And why did he rule it inadmissable? Posted by: blaster IIRC, it was because Baker found it after Sussman was first charged and Durham discovered it, the evidence was found after the charge and ruled inadmissable. Yes it was additional evidence (and my layman thinks it should have been added just because of extra proof piling on what Durham already had), but it was some shitcraptic excuse like that. So Baker's action can now be said to have led to Sussman's aquital (his friend conviently). Posted by: Scott_T at June 02, 2022 03:14 PM (2waQ7) 494
