The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Yes, I’m saying that I would not — we’re not going to repeal the Affordable Care Act.” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

So why should we vote for you and your ilk? Please specify. And then you are surprised that Donald Trump rose to the prominence he did you old turd.

Quote II

“I think my family and I should have a prayer session next time I am on a plane. How do you think it will end?”Rep. Ilhan Nur (D-MN)

Hope you do it on a September 11th flight.

Quote III

“We shut down Kraken’s global headquarters on Market Street in San Francisco after numerous employees were attacked, harassed and robbed on their way to and from the office.

Business partners were afraid to visit after being victimized.Kraken CEO, Jesse Powell

Quote IV

“What we’re seeing here in Seattle is the systemic decriminalization of everything, all the way from farebox recovery to failure to register as a sex offender, and using the guise of equity and social justice so that there isn’t any enforcement of laws. And what you get is higher crime and more evasion.” King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn

Unlike Sen. Chuck Grassley (See Quote I), This candidate has serious beliefs.

Democrat and racial justice advocate Gary Chambers Jr. is running to become Louisiana’s first black senator by burning a Confederate flag, smoking pot, raging against ginned up racial disparity, and claiming the South will rise again, on his terms.

He claims to be fed up with his state ranking poorly in health, education, infrastructure, and the economy. Chambers is using provocative language and radical imagery in his latest viral video called “Scars and Bars” to rile up his supporters and make a move for the Senate seat.

“Our system isn’t broken,” he says while setting the flag aflame. “It’s designed to do exactly what it’s doing, which is producing measurable inequity.”

I'm not saying he's right. He's following his beliefs. And there is something about him that is believable. The only belief Grassley has is lining his pockets. And at his age he'll never spend the money he has accumulated in office. While he continues to vote in favor of laws which exempt him from the very laws us Peons have to live under.

Is she doing this because she believes in it? Or is it OK with a wink-wink, nod-nod of the US Chamber of Commerce to further her national aspriations?

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem recently signed House Bill 1012, which "protect[s] students and employees at institutions of higher education from divisive concepts."

The legislation's seven-point definition of "divisive concepts" includes: "That any race, color, religion, sex, ethnicity, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior; That individuals should be discriminated against or adversely treated because of their race, color, religion, sex, ethnicity, or national origin; That an individual’s moral character is inherently determined by their race, color, religion, sex, ethnicity, or national origin."

The new law effectively bans university requirements at state-funded universities that are based on Critical Race Theory's proposition that "America is institutionally racist and that people are inherently oppressive or oppressed based on skin color."

She has the high ranking RINO Sen. John Thune to guide her along the way.

Maybe this clown, the stellar military mind of Dick Blumenthal and Capt. Bill Kristol can go.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) suggested the U.S. may need to step up its military support for Ukraine if Russian President Vladimir Putin escalates further and repeats the horrific tactics used in the 11-year-old war in Syria.

“I deeply worry that what’s going to happen next is that we will see Ukraine turn into Syria. The American people cannot turn away from this tragedy in Ukraine. I think the history of the 21st century turns on how fiercely we defend freedom in Ukraine and that Putin will only stop when we stop him,” Coons said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” when asked if he supported direct U.S. military involvement in Ukraine.

What Putin did was wrong. However, the US policy has been all over the map regarding Ukraine, Crimea and Syria for approximately the past 14 years.

We do not and should not send one US solider there.

Hmmm. I'm quite surprised. Chief Justice John Roberts really does have a grasp of the word "Taxes".

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a bid by four Democratic-leaning states to lift a cap on federal deductions for state and local taxes put in place as part of a 2017 tax overhaul under Republican former President Donald Trump.

The justices turned away an appeal by New York, Connecticut, Maryland and New Jersey after a lower court threw out their lawsuit. The lower court held that the U.S. Congress had broad authority over taxes and did not violate the U.S. Constitution by placing a $10,000 limit on the amount of state and local taxes that individuals may deduct on federal income tax returns.

It must have been a fun place to work before Kevin Berling was hired as a lab technician at Gravity Diagnostics in Covington, Kentucky, in 2018.

A worker has won a $450,000 compensation case after colleagues went against his wishes and threw him an office birthday party, setting off his anxiety and ultimately leading to him losing his job.

Kevin Berling was hired as a lab technician at Gravity Diagnostics in Covington, Kentucky, in 2018. According to his lawyers, he had asked the company to avoid its typical birthday celebration when his came around, due to concerns it would trigger his anxiety disorders.

According to his complaint against the company, the office manager forgot about Mr Berling’s request, and planned his office birthday party in August 2019.

The employee was left overwhelmed and had to leave the celebration to spend lunch hour in his car, according to the filing.

After the party incident, management held a meeting with Mr Berling about what had happened, setting off another anxiety attack.

When will the Biden Regime offer PFDs and swimming lessons to those on the southern border?

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Nine migrants drowned in the Rio Grande while attempting to illegally cross from Mexico to Texas in the past week. The drownings come in the midst of a recent, massive spike in traffic in the Del Rio Sector.

At least nine migrants died from drowning as they attempted to cross from Coahuila into the Eagle Pass area during the past week, according to a source operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The source said there are likely many more deaths from drowning than have been discovered.

A brighter future for those who suffer from Pancreatic Cancer? Let's hope so.

A botanical drug based on an extract of Cyathus striatus fungus and a cannabinoid extract from the cannabis plant has eliminated 100% of pancreatic cancer cells—relatively selectively and without damaging normal cells—in experiments conducted on a cell model.

The fungus has been the subject of research to test its anti-cancer efficacy in Professor Fuad Fares’ laboratory at the University of Haifa for about eight years.

It was selected as the preferred candidate for the development of a drug for pancreatic and colon cancer after showing better anti-cancer results than a variety of other fungi tested.

That my friends is a lot of tin foil.

Three companies owned by Austin-based conspiracy theorist Alex Jones have filed for bankruptcy, listing as creditors the parents of Sandy Hook Elementary students who have successfully sued him for defamation in Texas and Connecticut.

As part of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Jones paid $725,000 of his own money into a litigation settlement trust that now holds the assets of the three companies.

The trust is meant to pay damage awards to the families, according to the bankruptcy papers filed Sunday and Monday in Victoria federal court.

Another $2 million will be paid into the trust at a future date, the filings said, without listing the source of the money.

I'm not defending Turbo Tax or H&R Block or any other tax preparation company. However, Senator Warren (Dumber than a box of rocks) there is no such thing as a "Free Lunch".

Sen. Warren pushes TurboTax for answers about its efforts to block free tax filing

Just in time for Tax Day

As millions of Americans file their 2021 income taxes online today, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is demanding answers from Intuit about its popular TurboTax e-filing product.

In a letter to Intuit CEO Sasan K. Goodarzi, Warren says the company has used “extensive lobbying and adroit influence peddling” to prevent Americans from filing their taxes for free online.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed suit against Intuit in March for deceptive marketing, an action Warren calls “both welcome and long overdue.” Reps. Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Katie Porter (D-CA) also signed onto the letter.

There is no excuse that tax forms and filing taxes be as difficult as they are.

There's cheap and then there is Genius Award Winning Cheap.

Florida Man masqueraded as a Drug Enforcement Administration agent to secure a discount at a Wendy’s restaurant, according to police who yesterday arrested the suspect for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Investigators say Jesse Stover, 57, had been receiving the half-off discount for more than two years at a Wendy’s in Bunnell, a city about 20 miles north of Daytona Beach.

But yesterday, when Stover (seen above) again sought the discount, a Wendy’s manager asked to see his credentials. Stover, cops say, flashed a badge. When the manager asked to examine the badge, Stover reportedly became argumentative, prompting Wendy’s workers to call 911.

The manager told police that Stover claimed to work undercover for the DEA, adding that he threatened to report employees to Wendy’s corporate office for denying him the 50 percent discount.

Meaning that *not even one* Communist will be snatched from his warm bed at two in the morning, hurled with excessive (even brutal) force into the back of a refurbished Rocket 88, spirited away to a basement interrogation cell with ochre-stained runnels in the floor until he confesses his crimes against the people, and then put to strenuous labor on this canal, with minimal nourishment, until dead.

Special Counsels are strange outliers in our system; their entire point is that they operate completely outside of the DOJ's power structure, and answer to no one except themselves. The Biden admin *could* try to fire him; but it would be an obvious admission that he was on the right trail, and there's no way they could stop him from talking every night if they tried it. Florida doesn't have a state income tax. TurboTax files for free on the feral return but will charge for state returns. If you don't pay it won't send it, then you get three nasty letters and the state garnishes your wages or bank account for taxes the state figures you owe based on your employer's reporting and the feral return - In Oregon that is figured as filing Single-zero write offs + penalty and interest. Then you have to file for real and if you don't owe you may have to file a special request to get your penalty and interest reversed because Kate Brown Singao. Also, Oregon has a kicker rule that if the revenue is above a calculated amount you get a refund on your previous year's taxes, and TurboTax doesn't bother programming for that, and tell taxpayers that use them that the state Revenue will amend for them and send a refund. Which is why the State of Oregon and TurboTax are bastards individually and collectively.

New Frigidaire side by side in 2017. Just recently had the water valve go out, so no ice maker or water. Sears services them. $79 for service call, over $600 to do the work. Bought valve for $49, will put it in myself. Good YT video on removal and install.

New Samsung dishwasher last year. Works Ok. You need to look at the racks before deciding. The top rack is only half good for glasses. Bottom rack is weird, hard to put bowls in, just long lines of straight pegs. Easy for plates. Silverware rack is hard to use. There's a handle right where you put case knives in or long forks. Not good.

I think the definite article is typically used when referring to a geographical feature or area, or a group of islands. Not usually for political entities. THE Rocky Mountains, THE Hawaiian Islands, THE Coral Sea, and so forth. Ukraine and Argentina and other places were thought of as regions, not political entities, by the 18th and 19th Century Brits. So they became THE Ukraine, THE Argentine, THE Crimea, and so on. Many exceptions to the above, of course. China was never THE China and Tibet was not THE Tibet.

379 Lol at the 'protestors' using donuts as bait on the cops. That's f'n funny, I don't care who you are.

Ouat, my son 'vanished' on his way home from work at age 15. I talked to the cops, cuz mom freaked, but they wouldn't do squat until 24 hours had passed.

So I called in a favor from a retired detective. We rode up and down all possible paths from work to home, an APB was issued on the bike, etc etc etc.

Turns out, he stopped at a friends house in our neighborhood and got passout drunk. They parked his bike in the back so no one could see it. He came staggering home about 6 am.

I made him pay for 2 dozen donuts for the cops a couple of days later. He was not amused.

On the first road trip with The Spawn (to DC) I'd stopped to let them run about and pee before we hit the Beltway -- and the lovely and long-suffering Mrs Z almost melted down! The Rule she grew up with involved only one (1) stop on a day-long trip... So she sat in the van, clicking her nails and fuming even though she could have pissed herself! Her bladder was on the verge of bursting before we got to the hotel...

She fuzzed out on a later trip to Boston regarding unauthorised rest stops, too, but things got better, eventually...

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division

The Viking is a drop in range, 6 burners. The ovens are builder originals but there are 2. We also have 2 refrigerators, one in the kitchen and the spare in the laundry room.that solves the room for turkey and stuff....I will replace the ovens with either Viking or Wolf when they go. All my appliances are at least 10 years old except the ovens are 12.

For what it's worth: In 24 years I am on my 3rd GE Over-the-range microwave (last year) and 2nd GE dishwasher (about 4 years). My Maytag washer went 1995-2018. New one is a GE and seems OK. My drier is a Maytag from 1995 and still going. I have had American Home Shield all this time an they have been pretty upbeat at fixing or replacing. Soon it will be the fridge that is probably 30+ years old as it was already old when we moved in.
Hope this helps.

My Dad always went to AAA and had maps made of our intended route. They were handy (in both senses.) Kind of the size of the old longer note pads (Narrow, but tall?) They'd have fold outs for city routes, but it was pretty compact most of the time. Dad loves those. He loves the GPS too, but I think he misses the trip-tik.

Posted by: lin-duh at April 18, 2022 11:18 PM

I would recommend the Wolf over the Viking. My stove/ovens I haven't had any problems with but I had such a hard time with Viking trying to get a new hinge for a refrigerator door that weighed a couple hundred pounds and was ready to fall off was ridiculous. I bought the sub zero fridge and put the Viking in my laundry room. My mechanic made a new hinge. I was so worried the door was going to crush someone. I will never buy a Viking product after dealing with them for three months I gave up.

The thing about GPS is that it pretty much only confirms what you already know for the most part. Allows you to time gauge a trip. That kind of thing.

The GPS in the car has not been updated for the new bridges in Louisville. So every time I visit my parents I am flying over the ether and the trip estimate is 30 mins longer until I touch down on a road on the far side.

520 The reason to pay to have your taxes done for me is that there was an announcement that thousands of new IRS agents were added. There's a track record of legal bureaucratic harassment of people the establishment doesn't like. So far it's been high profile types, but who's to say they don't decide to bother "republicans" or "church goers" or some other demographic they don't like. I don't cheat on my taxes at all, but they don't lose anything if they just compel you to come up with documents or go to meetings and don't find anything. After warranty, it failed again. We said fuck it and bought a GE countertop unit, 1200 W compared to the stupid Electrolux thing with 900 W. It is just a storage box now for some trays.

Quote for the fix was almost $750, while the new GE was $125 at Lowes.

Rather than glass doors, they have a display screen. It shows up what's inside, via a camera, but also displays ads. If you want to see what's inside, you have to watch an ad. Door itself may lock until you do.

This is at least the 2nd border shelling incident since then. I think Moscow would be smart to save the threatened kind of retaliation for other more serious situations that may call for climbing up the escalatory ladder (only their side really has higher rungs within practical reach, anyway).

566 I draw house plans for builders, and include highly detailed kitchen and cabinetry details. We often frame the pocket behind a fridge with 2x4s in a 2x6 wall to gain two inches of fridge pocket depth, so as to get a more flush look. Or if against an inside wall, go with flatwise studs behind.

Even the built ins like Viking, SubZero, Thermador need more cab depth that standard basecabs.

We tell the clients if we can get the room behind, we can frame and build so a standard full depth fridge can be used, with much higher storage capacity than counter depth or the $13K built-ins, and at a huge savings.

This is what started this whole mess. The house has a wall oven with the microwave. The microwave is dying, the carousel stopped spinning, and the ceiling of it is starting to peel. Wall ovens are a huge waste of space unless you got a big ass kitchen, so no way was I going to spend $3500 on a new wall oven. the cooktop is next to the wall oven cab, which is stupid because you can't turn the handles of the pots without hitting the wall oven cab. I could have removed the wall oven cab since it's on the end of the run, and removed the cab under the cook top, replaced it with a regular oven and got a regular base cabinet and wall cabinet to replace the wall oven cab, but matching it would be an issue, and it would need a new counter. Screw that, it all goes.

Back home in Alberta. Found the house cold, and my water filter froze and split. Good thing the pump was off! Pilot never went out on the boiler, but evidently one of the zone valves quit working, and if they don't work, the main burner never lights. Alligator clip leads. What can't they fix? Radiators are putting out heat now, but it will take hours for the house to fully warm. Got an electric fan heater going here in the basement office.

I will buy a new water filter in the morning, and then see if any pipes froze. Don't see any indications of frozen beer cans or other containers to suggest it was a real hard freeze. At least most of the pipes are accessible in the basement.

Rather than glass doors, they have a display screen. It shows up what's inside, via a camera, but also displays ads. If you want to see what's inside, you have to watch an ad. Door itself may lock until you do.

My cousin was a surveyor, and that was indeed one of his uses for the thing. It's funny, he almost got his Ph.D. in mathematics, but just loved surveying so much, he went to doing that again and did it until he retired.

Not an aircraft engineer/designer but I would imagine any increase in air speed of a plane would require some redesigning due to possible air frame catastrophic failure (buckling, cracking, breaking, etc.) due to increased air frame stress, particularly to the wings. I don't think you can just increase the speed without some plane alterations. I'm thinking back to WWI and how they had to really work on redesigning those planes just to get 5 or 10 more miles per hour out of the plane.

Posted by: RickZ at April 19, 2022 01:46 AM (ldL4g)

627 RickZ.

Mostly, you're correct. But the refinements mostly came in with the Coke-Bottle shape (area rule) in the '50s, Laminar Flow wings (P-51 Mustang) in the '40s, and then refinements such as gap-seals, flaperons, variable ramp/cone jet intakes and other such refinements.

Then the late '70s revolution of lifting body fuselages, as evinced with the F-14 & F-15, and blended wing-body planes as the F-16.

Solve the supersonic shock wave in the transonic range, and make the airframe your bitch.

629 A Merlin XX was first fitted to the XP-40F while the YP-40F got Packard built Merlin V-1650-1. And the aim was to improve high altitude performance. The L model was the second go at improving performance with the Merlin as power plant.

While Curtis was trying to wring all it could out of the now very dated P-36/P-40 design; even more mutations would arise from the basic DNA in the quest for more speed and more contracts: XP-46, XP-53, XP-60, and the YP-60E.

The the P-40 was far from out as the P-40M and P-40N would go into production and to war. While the last last attempt to keep the P-40 viable was XP-40Q with a V-1710-121 and four bladed prop. It's top speed would be 422mph. But the P-51D/K could almost do this and the P-51H could exceed this. So it was one and done for the Q.

But to muddle things even further, when there was a shortage of Merlin engines 300 P-40Fs and P-40Ls had Allison engines installed and were designated P-40Rs.

Posted by: Anna Puma at April 19, 2022 02:03 AM (LF5cC)

The technorata of the P-40 might've rated it below the premiere fighters of it's day. But a thin winged, Merlin powered P-40 would've smoked most of what Japan flied, till the last months of the war.

Imagine Chenault's P-40s with already then superior dive performance, with the Merlin engine and a P-51-ish wing.

Right plane, right place, right time. It would've made a slaughterhouse of the Zero, right until the late war marques.

Posted by: Dr. Bone at April 19, 2022 02:25 AM (Wnd0C)

642 I am an aircraft engineer/designer. For an unswept wing, with the wing thickness/chord of about 12%, typical for WWII class fighters, the Drag Rise Mach No. is about 0.70. So, 0.70*760mph is about 530mph.

Every bit of speed above that 0.7 Mach, creates more and more shock waves around the airplane, with supersonic wave drag from them. So, that's the equivalent of the 'hull speed' analogy for boats.

Doesn't surprise me that the P-40L didn't get much top speed increase. They would have needed to thin up the wing a bunch, I bet.

Another big drag source at top speed is the propulsion ram drag. The inlets are bigger than the size they need at top speed, (higher airflow streamtube into the inlet needs a smaller area for the same massflow), so the excess air spills all over the place at top speeds, creating more drag.

If you make the inlets smaller for top speed conditions, you don't get enough cooling air at low speeds.
