Melbourne, Florida? You should check with "Dave in Fla"
Posted by: JM in Florida at January 05, 2022 07:02 PM (L7jyl)

I have been there, Melbourne - okay, but if you can afford it then south of the coastal outer land strip is better - the price of housing holds up and your ocean beach view is unobstructed - think Jupiter or West Palm Beach. It is pretty pricey there on the Atlantic side of the Intercoastal Waterway - but worth the extra bucks.

Melbourne is nice, don't get me wrong, and the prices for real estate in south Florida (south of Orlando) are skyrocketing. But if you want retirement and investment security, then you'll have to shell out the bucks because eventually the prices will recede in mid-Florida east coast areas. They'll never recede in Boca Raton or West Palm Beach...or even Jupiter.

Here is the thing though - I think Gadot has enough juice to have some say in how she looks on camera. I am thinking that since she is playing a criminal mastermind super tough ninja chick, she wanted her image in the film to be "not just a pretty face." Because in WW she is very much a pretty face. (Though you want some weird CGI, look at a pic from the filming where she is pregnant and they have a green screen over baby bump so they can CGI in her midriff. It's freaky looking.)

All the good enclosure stories date back to the 80s, when Ken Allen the orangutan not only kept escaping his enclosure (he'd usually just join the people in front, looking at his colleagues back in the enclosure, which was hilarious), but also taught his girlfriend how to escape. They put him in punitive solitary (I think 2 TVs on different channels, for stimulus) in a locked cage for a while, they never did figure out how he escaped I don't think.

Radiation is a whole spectrum of wave/particle energy. The lower energy, visible range won't do the most damage. It's the higher energy range that readily penetrate clothing. Also, even while your whole body is being bombarded by radiation, there's some statistical chance that an epidermal cell DNA in your toe gets hit and not repaired just the right way before any other body cells do. You just don't spot the ones that are inconvenient to see. The cells are getting hit but just not quite as much. But, statistically, some will have their DNA go cancerous.

368 Beck happened to be doing a book signing for his St Nicholas book at a post exchange I was shopping in. I asked him to sign the book to my baby boys who we were in the process of adopting, and pointed off to the side where my wife was standing with them. He got excited, ran over to where the wife and kids were and spent 10 minutes talking to her and holding the kids. His staff had to drag him back to the table. He signed the book and included the name and number of his assistant. Said to call if we were going to dallas and he would give us a studio tour and let us watch show tapings.

Agree 100% and it does put me in a place where I can't "trust" him. Not that trust plays that big of a role in my political decisions anyway. But it does play a role in where I think I can fill in.

For example, in 2016 when Cruz said he couldn't endorse Trump, I trusted him at his word when he said he would endorse the nominee. I got in rounds of fights with Trumpers who I thought did not fully understand Cruz's convention speech as the closest to an endorsement as Trump was going to get at the time.

So my trust in Cruz was almost totally an assessment of what I saw that he presented to conservatives. And I was right, he came around and stood on his promise to endorse the nominee and did so.

Bought one of his books (review: the product of a guy with adult ADD and perhaps maybe had fallen off the wagon again...) I thought he was doing some good stuff with The Blaze and the whole push to make a conservative media culture. There was a point where he buried the hatchet with Rush and Levin and I thought big things were going to happen. The thing with the teddy bears for the kids - illegal though they were - was a very kind thing to do. I don't fault him for it. But I think he got back into drink and/or drugs, and did the cheeto thing over Trump, and I said "no more."

Did you see the story about the Vancouver Canucks equipment manager who had his life saved by a young woman who spotted what she thought might a melanoma on the back of his neck?

He was standing on the bench during a game and she was sitting in the stands behind him. She saw a mole on the back his neck and typed a warning to him on her phone that he should get it checked because it looked like cancer. She banged on the glass enough so that he finally turned and looked and read the message. Had the team doctor look at it and he sent him to a specialist and it was indeed a melanoma. Dr cut it out and told him he would have been dead in a matter of months if he hadn't had it checked.

With the help of the social media he tracked the woman down the other day and he helped organize a donation for her tuition to medical school. And everyone lived happily ever after.

Ted Cruz played no part in this story at all.

Paco mentioned it, but the pure fact is that the Superbird could draft behind the other cars more efficiently, and then when the throttle was punched to pass, it slipped into the full force of the air-resistance with LESS resistance than other cars, and accelerated the pass more quickly, too. On the ass end, the high wing made impressive downforce *and* made it nearly impossible for other cars to draft behind the Superbird.

Looked funny? To each their own, certainly. But, in the school of Form Follows Function, it was a Design Masterpiece.

452 If you haven't seen it yet here is a video of that weasel Raffensperger talking about the just launched investigation of illegal ballot harvesting in Georgia during both the 2020 election and the 2020 Senate runoff.

Unlike some of the other stuff this is tangible fraud and there is both video surveillance evidence and a participant who has come forward to describe the scam. There were over 5,000 instances of stuffing mail in ballot drop boxes in Georgia which would be way more than necessary to change the outcome of the election. Don't expect to see this in the media any time soon.

Seems fitting that it is happening on the anniversary of Jan 6th.

Also my sewer line roto-rootered a few times a year, most years. Soon my electric range (top plates and oven door) will require fixing and my refrigerator body (from the 80s?) is starting to rust. Hubby had melanoma starting under his fingernail - dermatologist had only seen one other case before that. A 15-year-old girl who lost a finger and had to have chemo because it went into a lymph node in her shoulder.

Fortunately, they caught Paul's while it was still in situ.

I should hit the interwebs to see what a melanoma under a nail looks like. On the skin, I can visualize. But under a nail...

Blessings on your hubby's good outcome.

Same here.

We're looking at Lake Effect snows tonight and tomorrow.

Depending on where one is, and where the snow bands set up, you could see a dusting...or you could see up to two feet.

525 @521 Yeah, he is VERY lucky; Dr said that melanoma under the nail is very hard to catch early enough. And once it spreads, it's hard to stop it.

Paul had a purple longitudinal stripe under the nail for the longest time (years); his mom noticed it when it turned darker. If you see black discoloration on the cuticle outside of the nail bed, it's time to high tail it to a dermatologist.

536 457 I go to a dermatologist once or twice a year, depending on how many spots he has to burn.
All skin cancers are not created equal. Mine (pre-cancerous) are from sun. I think basal cell carcinoma is the killer, and is related to sun exposure.
I believe melanoma is not.
----
You've got it backwards. Basal cell carcinoma is almost always benign; squamous cell carcinoma is usually benign but can metastasize and become malignant; melanoma is always malignant and a killer unless caught very early.
