Normally my esteemed colleague CBD is filling this time slot with his First World Problems thread. He invited me to sit in for him this afternoon.

Rumor is, he is in Texas attempting to show Texans how New Jerseyians cook. I don't think that Sous Vide will be winning any chili cook-offs down there.

So it's Sunday afternoon, what are you up to? I must confess I was a Footballaholoic. I would watch at least 2 NFL games on Sunday and more than likely the Monday Night Football game.

Living in rural Wisconsin I dropped my satellite coverage when the prices jumped considerably after our first contract expired. This all came about the time the NFL started their Woke Journey.

I've sold my Green Bay Packers season tickets the past two years and made a profit. I've watched only one NFL game in the past 2 years. (I was stuck in a hotel in October 2020 on a Monday night)

So have you given up the NFL? What have you been doing with your free time? I've allocated that football time to more constructive projects such as my hobbies and spending more time outdoors with projects.

One of the things I'm not doing on Sunday is checking out Porn Hub. Is doesn't matter that it would legitimate while learning Calculus.

It's safe to assume that few Pornhub visitors are looking for hour-long calculus videos (by a fully-clothed instructor), but Taiwanese math teacher Changhsu puts them there anyway. His channel is filled with over 200 decidedly unsexy chalkboard lessons about topics like differential equations (link NSFW). The 34-year-old math tutor found the YouTube market for math explainers to be saturated, so he decided to expand his reach into Pornhub (link NSFW). He told Mel Magazine that he wants to reach a new market of mathematics learners.

And finally............What lengths would you go to to change your appearance for no less your driver's license?

Everyone I know hates going to the DMV. There is nothing worse than sitting in an extremely large room with a bunch of strangers, loud kids, and people coughing and sneezing all over the place. Plus there is always the dreaded driver license photo. It never looks great. You always look a lot heavier than you actually are, or at least heavier than the weight you put on your driver’s license. It’s just an all around terrible experience in most cases. Well this Reddit user wanted to become the ultimate redneck for his driver’s license. I mean who wouldn’t really, but you have to take a look at this insane transformation.
It was time to get started on the most epic driver’s license picture ever.

9 I can't say I am more productive since we stopped watching the NFL. I was always a fickle viewer, and did stuff outside sometimes if the weather was nice. Dad shifted to watching old westerns and I shifted to more time on the internet for the most part.

But at least I'm not supporting an org that gave Roger Goodell everything he asked for instead of firing his ass for starting the ruination.

It's quite possible to do so, but CPT Charles doesn't want rabbit ears on his video wall screen, and I don't have obsolete CRT tech anymore. But it's my fate that right after I told the NFL where to go, the Bengals suddenly have a decent team.

Yes. This is not a song to listen to in quiet contemplation. It requires volume, both sound and hair (Aqua-net is your friend here, ladies) and preferably a can of Lone Star or Shiner Bock in one's hand. Coor's light if you can't find the other two. Boots and tight jeans shuffling on the dance floor can and will complete the atmosphere, but are not necessary.

But also because they're complicit in the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of mainly black men, women, and children. The Patriots/NFL support Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter supports Defund the Police and ACAB (All Cops Are Bad). You might want a more realistic look (better handling, less obvious flinch from actors) but under all circumstance, I would want that as a separate event, not 'Hey let's shoot some rounds and then shoot some scenes!'

This is a very disturbing thing I actually stumbled upon many years ago. An article titled 'Worst Jobs to have.' One of them was 'Medical Testing of Beagles'. The specific case was for some sort of heart condition. The quote was: 'They just love people and are so happy to be tested on.' Then comes the dissection.

I get the value of medical testing on animals. I really do. Said before: pick a different fucking animal.

91 Adding to the Tappan Zee Bridge story in previous thread...

A reasonable person would ask why the bridge was originally constructed in one of the wider areas of the river with a muddy bed when it could have been built a little more downstream where it is narrower and on solid rock..

The Governor at that time wanted the bridge to fund his dream to build a limited access highway. Putting the bridge in to where engineers said it should go (2 tens of a mile) would put it into the Port Authority's jurisdiction (25 mile radius out from the central point of the Statue of Liberty) and the Port Authority would receive the revenue.

The replacement bridge was not relocated because the towns and highways grew up around the original bridge.

Just completed a first grind to roughly shape and expose the colored portions of two small Australian boulder opal pieces. I think that I need to try to cut one of them in two to expose more color readily. As I have no water-lubed saw, this will have to wait until tomorrow night, when there will be one for me to use.

Nope; at least not the cellular functions, at least. I use mine to listen to music to pass the time in the air. Fun fact: the requirement to switch phones to "airplane mode" for flight has NOTHING to do with the plane's communications and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that cellular functions in the air interfere with cell networks on the ground.

Yeah, the politics was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. But I was already disgruntled. The expanded amount of time it took to play a game, being so-hungry for commercial dollars that they'd come back from commercial and you'd obviously missed plays, and the increasing criminality of a subset of the players . . . made it easy to walk away from. And I had watched a lot of football. There are other things to do though.

As for current hobbies, I kinda had to give up oil painting when I adopted Scotty (AKA The Butterscotch Tornado). Imagine a kitten rubbing up against your canvas or playing on your palette *shudder*!

So at the moment I'm indulging the only handicraft he doesn't interfere too much with, which is making rosaries (also a personal devotion, which makes it really nice.) Spinning, knitting, and crocheting are on indefinite hold.

338 2nd biggest pike I ever caught (13+ #) was trying to eat a little walleye that was trying to eat a minnow bottom fished off a little crappie pole on 4#line.
The hook caught in her mouth, the line came out the back behind their floating upper jaw bone thus missing all those teeth.

Took ten minutes to wear her out enough to net.

The big pike are females.

343 With regard to football, I stopped watching (actually, listening, since I don't watch television) about ten years ago, after Dave Duerson, the strong safety for the 1985 Bears, killed himself over his deteriorating mental condition, a result of the repeated concussions he suffered during his career. Yes, I realize that it's a violent game - just ask Darryl Stingley; and yes, I realize that the players walk into that arena with their eyes open. Still, once I started seeing what it does to the men who play it, the game ceased to be fun for me. The whole woke-NFL thing was, for me, just the cherry on the sundae.

344 Jake Tapper is apparently going around "tone policing" anyone who thinks Baldwin has even a smidgen of responsibility here...if this had been a Trump production, and Trump had killed someone in his production, Jake would be suggesting a lamp post and rope necktie for the Donald and he knows it.

Jake can fake the gravitas look all he wants, but he fully knows that the executive producer (Baldwin in this incident) is the CEO of any production and is liable for the work product, including the hiring and firing of personnel, and the safety of the work needed to produce it. Baldwin can't escape that, and everyone knows it.

They had been changing the rules so much in the past 10 or 20 years that the game really isn't the same game anyway. We cut the cable about 2 years ago and haven't missed it at all.

352 I was an NFL fan for 50 yrs until they stopped playing the national anthem on tv. Don't know if they just don't show it or it is just not done anymore so they could try to replace it with a black anthem. Fuck 'em. Since the "woke" BS I have watched a total of 4 minutes. The last full game I watched was the 2020 Superbowl game. To be honest, I don't even miss it. I stopped watching the NBA as well as the MBL.
I watch golf and tennis. Although, all the whinnying going on in tennis this past year has me souring towards it as well.
