The Voice Of The ONT Is The Voice Of God

Friday again. Where does the time go? I was speaking with a client today about his plans for next year, and I said “moving forward into 2021, er, wait, I mean 2022”. In any event, this is pretty cool.

I don't know the story here, but I have read about people who refuse to get out of Ubers while trying to provoke the driver to lay a hand on them so they can then sue. This might be one of those cases. It might not.

The video features art, but they could have featured music (besides MGMT), literature, architecture, philosophy or any other aspect of “White” culture (a term I dislike because it's meaningless, there are a myriad different “White” cultures, just as there are a myriad different “Black” cultures or “Asian” cultures. It's all so bloody stupid). This is a fish discounting the existence of water because it's all he's ever known.

69 Updating a late comment from the previous thread.

Went across town today (1 hr+, each way), to the pharmacist I'd used when I got the meds for the 'Vid. Had a refill on the HCQ, and wanted to top-off the supply before the Puppet in Chief goes all DefCon4 on Texas.

Not only did I secure the HCQ, but got a refill on the Zpak *and*.. Ivermectin. He did this very, very on the sly, after having rather pointedly stating to those also in line for meds, that "nobody has any Ivermectin, anymore." See, the first time I was there, the place was empty, and that gent (African immigrant, nation unknown), waxed eloquently on just how much he despises Biden and that whole crew. This man is Trumpian down to his core.

When I walked in (not there since April), he immediately recognized me, and his smile was as genuine as could be. I was happy to pay the sub $100 charge for it all. No, not sick, just stocking up for tough times ahead. Because tough times are ahead.

95 Interesting anecdote I got today from Karl Denninger's Market Ticker site:

One of the posters says he's a doctor in a red state, one that's a national leader in beef production. His particular area does a lot of long-distance grass-fed beef shipping, especially to large cities where it's very much in demand. He talked to a neighbor rancher of his today, who is canceling all contracts with CA, OR, WA, NY, and MA, effective immediately. The beef that was going into those contracts is getting diverted to Texas and Florida and other red states.

Added that a lot of other ranchers he knows in the state are doing the same thing, especially pulling out of contracts with California.

97 Scary poll result of the day.

Baris asked respondent if they had been vaccinated, had they had a serious and debilitating adverse reaction to the vaccine.

The response was 4% of those vaccinated.

Do the math, 4% of vaccinated is about 5 million adverse reactions, 10 times the official numbers in the reporting system.

That means there have been actually 130,000 deaths from the vaccine, not 13,000 reported. Or an annual rate of about 250,000.

Nobody does bones and gore like the RCC. My parish building is only 10 years old but the huge mosaic above the Monstrance and Tabernacle depicts Jesus with blood from His crucifixion wounds flowing down the sides of His body into a giant pool of blood under His feet. Representations of specific saints are collecting bowls of His Sacred Blood.

It is pretty tough on the kids once they catch on to what it shows.

Allman's definately paved the way. Southern Rock started with Duane Allman and his slide guitar. Gary Rossington is a master of the slide but Duane tops him. LS opened for the AB early on . Both bands helped make Muscle Shoals the studio every artist wanted to record at. Duane started playing there as a session guitarist. He was instrumental in convincing Wilson Picket to cover Hey Jude, my favorite WP song.

They grow hops suspended from heavy logging cables now, and when it is time to harvest they have this Ivy High-Lift that has hydraulic driven rotating blades that ride on the cable and cut the hop vines and the twine the vines grow up.
The guys (ladies generally) in the wagon behind the cutter pull the vines into the wagon (they wear coolie hats to keep the leaves and such from going down their necks) and the vines are taken to the stripper that pulls the hops off the vines

My aunts used to talk about picking hops, but they don't do it that way anymore.

Made some progress on my project of shortening the VW floorpan for the dune buggy. Got the two halves pulled together, lined up square, and enough weld laid down that I can handle it without it getting bent double. Tonight I got all the cable tubes sorted out, and brazed into the holes where they exit the two horns that support the engine. Now I can go ahead, and finish-weld the splice.

361 Hi folks. I'm back from Little's game. I posted the ONT from my cell phone on the sidelines as I was working the chains for the game. Little's team lost, they're pretty young and inexperienced, but there was a lot to build on. The opposing coach (the chains are on the visitor's side of the field) said to me "Your kids hit hard". Little, who hadn't touched a football in his life before last year, played every offensive snap at right guard. There were some plays where he made mistakes, but there were a lot more where he didn't. All in all a quite enjoyable evening, aside from the losing part.

Got the application and study guide, and then the rest of 2020 went and 2020'd all over things, and the HAM project went to a lower priority.

Still need to move forward with it, and now I've located a good 40', two section tower in near-new condition. Think I could hang both a HAM and a OTA TV antenna on that. Another plus, here in Texas, having the Radio Operator license plates can get one past many a disaster area roadblock.

Mail me pics, amigo. I grew up around Baja Bugs galore, Southern CA in the late '60s through the mid '70s.

On my end, I dropped in on the Galveston College welding class (night school), and they've got the Cargo Dividers that I designed and prototyped about 90% completed. Good looking welds n' such, looks like good, accurate execution of the plan, too. I'll get pics of my original and send you those and what the students turn out. 393 The Breakfast Club has to be on of the most dated movies out there. St. Elmo's Fire was another one with the same people and the same themes. Those movies meant something at the time and mean little or nothing today.

They were about angst and how society put people into certain groups, non political groups. With St. Elmo's Fire, they were all screwed up because they had not figured out adulthood by 23. Heh, that would seem almost comical these days.

Neither film was great, but they did have an influence. Most movies today have little strong influence on society, we are way too fragmented for that to happen.

But it is nice to recall a time when the biggest worry was being pinholed as a jock, a nerd, or a princess. Looking at today's America, that seems quite novel.

Mr. Dildo once called my man a communist because he referenced the gross profits in the pipeline. Perhaps if Mr. Dildo would do a deep dive on the contracts that Pfizer has with countries around the world, he might be a little more skeptical of his pharmaceutical buddies.

Of course it works both ways as English speakers have a habit of using Kanji that looks cool, but which they don't actually know what it is either.

499 I noticed something weird tonight. I am not saying it means anything but it was just odd to me. I was watching a reaction video of the movie "Flight 93". Rebecca Schull was an actress in that movie. I doubt many recall her name, but she played Faye on the tv show Wings. She was the old lady who boarded the passengers.

Her back story was she was a flight attendant and that is where she met up with the Wings crew. I just found it interesting because I don't think she does much work and that was an interesting choice. The producer of Wings, David Angell, died on 9/11. My guess is she did it in remembrance. Though I am extrapolating at this point.

Ok, Speed Racer was a show for kids, and I used to get up early in grade school to watch it..but here we have a race car that can see thru trees, jump high in the air with onboard jacks, and convert into a submarine..and win races without even changing tires while also serving as Speed's only car. And in most of the races, nearly every other driver apparently dies. Every race. But I think my favorite episode was the one where Speed's dad digs up an engine from a graveyard.....it makes so much power that driving it makes you feel like you are having a bad acid trip...whoever invented that show in Japan was on SOMETHING, that's for sure

549 With the Civil War, you had likely 700,000 die in a nation of 30mm. If you drill down to just the South, the percentages are even worse. But if you bring in the wounded and maimed for life, it was a level likely not seen in the Western World. For sure more Americans died in that war than any other war. As I recall, more Americans died in that war than all wars combined up until Vietnam.

Today even scholars don't teach about the battles. They are more interested in various social struggles during the war that few then would recognize as existing. Back then, North and South, they cared about battles. They were clued in that what happened on the battlefields mattered in the long run.

For sheer Shermanesque sanitizing of the landscape it's hard to touch the Thirty Years War, but the largely professional armies of that era were comparatively small.

The French and Indian War was brutal, but likewise small-scale.

The French brought mass conscript armies to the game under the Revolution and then Bonaparte, Napoleon's Russian misadventure matches any Civil War campaign for slaughter but mostly the Russians let General Winter do the work.

Our Civil War brought railroads and industrialization.

WW1 was everything our Civil War was, cranked WAY up.

The only comparable massacre in WW2 was the Eastern Front. And burning cities, something we perfected in Japan.

567 I only dabble in the French and Indian War. It was mainly a war of outposts and ways to take them out. Sure there was a ton of slaughter an inhumanity. Heck, our own Revolution had a ton of that, including Americans settling old grievances. But the Civil War was another level. AS I recall, the first major battle was Shiloh. More Americans were killed there in a few days than in The Revolution, French and Indian War, and The War of 1812 combined.

I am not talking deaths from illness, but combat deaths. Today i doubt more than 20 percent of Americans could tell you what happened at Shiloh.

579 check, that, there were more casualties at Shiloh, I am not sure about actual deaths on the battlefield. Casualties are another thing but still very bad. IT is one reason why many say 50,000 died at Gettysburg when nothing could be further from the truth. Those are casualty figures, not deaths.

But the Battle of Shiloh was another level. There is a reason people on both sides of the war said the populations would never start it up again if there was a long cease fire. Neither side had planned for this. Some did, but not the political leadership.

I asked a very smart girl after graduation which American war had the most casualties. She said Vietnam. While she was not particularly worldly, she was very smart and a good student. I guess she just missed that class. I think too many majors allow people to eschew the things they are not interested in.

594 Quint, the first major battle was Bull Run/Manassas. The bloodiest single day battle was Antietam/Sharpsburg. Fun fact about Shiloh/Pittsburgh Landing. Many wounded reported a blue "angel's glow" around their wounds as they lay in the mud post battle, and attributed their survival to the phenomenon. In the early 2000s a couple of students proved that the glow came from bioluminescent bacteria, the conditions on the battlefield post battle were just right to allow it to flourish. They proved that it did indeed help men survive their wounds as it killed the deadly bacteria in them that would otherwise have been fatal.

I have a little French-made metal cutter that pulls down a short serrated blade between two fixed blades. It cuts a narrow kerf, and leaves a coil of cut metal in its wake. Like air or electric powered metal shears, but on a small scale. It works quite well, and can be steered accurately. Cost me a buck at a swap meet.

I have read that maggots would eat decaying flesh and it was antiseptic to some wounded. This is another level or gore that I rarely go into. But since you brought it up there was a lot of stuff that happened in that war that furthered medicine.

I can be a bit defensive about that war because I think many with a cursory knowledge criticize their doctors, their tactics, etc without a fair hearing. One you hear about a lot is how they would amputate limbs willy nilly. Historians have delved into that and have decided almost every time that is exactly what they would have to do today.

For sure the inability to understand how bacteria and sepsis work caused tons of pain. But even though these guys did not know of penicillin, they were pretty incredible about what they did know. They did know about keeping a clean camp and not befouling their water. And when they took limbs, there was normally a very good reason.

Now gut shots that back then were something you usually could not do much about. The guy either lived or died.

618 Even though the Civil War resulted in a monstrous loss of life for both sides, the percentage of battle deaths versus deaths from non-battle related disease was actually pretty low.

Of 700,000 dead, the South lost about 94,000 KIA/DOW (died of wounds) and the North about 104,000 KIA/DOW in 4 years, with the rest of disease or in prisoner of war camps. Industrial level killing but really amounting to deaths from a single WW1 offensive. As a percentage of the relative populations involved, though, as you mentioned, on a level with WW1 in that respect.

Shiloh had about 3,500 KIA/DOW on both sides. Antietem about 7,500, and Gettysburg a little over 8,000.

636 I wonder what the individual wounds (gangrene or other infection) vs. epidemics ratio was. They had to have known about the importance of field hygiene even if they were limited in their ability to provide it under any given circumstances but there sure wasn't much anyone could do during those times if an outbreak of typhus or cholera struck. It spread on its terms, not yours.

646 The thing about the Civil War is it doesn't need stats. It was the most impactful event in our history. American men served in WW1, WW2, and even Vietnam and most moved on. Sure there was a ton of pain, sure the nation had its issues. But it was nothing compared to the American Civil War. In many ways it defined us more than the Revolution. Today the history is suppressed.

I don't see how that is a good thing. Sure don't focus on it, don't live it like many did for too long. But destroying it is a really bad move in my opinion. Sometimes I wonder how important it is. I wonder if I even care to educate people I would never want to know and have no interest in their own nation's history.

The only two places I know of where Southerners drink unsweet tea are Texas and VA. Now I am not saying most do, so no one jump down my throat. But in my travels, those are the two Southern places where a significant percentage go with unsweet.

I never liked sweet tea to be honest. I guess I would rather go with a coke. But someone did some research on it, and the highest levels of sweet tea drinking is often correlated with not drinking booze. Booze itself is a type of denatured alcohol. THere is a reason serious drinkers start eating a lot of sugar when they give up the bottle.

The argument is people are going to get their sugar one way or the other. I am not saying that is the answer to everything, but the hypothesis rang true to me. i know of many dry counties, and damn is they dont' love their sweet tea.

I meant denatured sugar. And yes I know anyone who passed Chemistry 101 could call me out here. But it does come from sugar, and for some reason many drinkers crave sugar when they quit. GWB was one, he has mentioned it.

666 Hm - interesting hypothesis Quint, you might be on to something there. Tennessee being an example of many dry counties, and lots of sweet tea drinkers! I know this from a discussion I had, the feller was adamant about sweet tea. Franklin Tenn.

Alcohol is interesting, the only substance that is "burned" by the human body in preference to glucose or carbs, is alcohol. That's why beer drinkers get a gut. Not only can no fat be burned off until glucose is exhausted, no carbs (glucose) can be burned until the alcohol is metabolized.

Causes me to long for the good old days:

The State of Franklin (also the Free Republic of Franklin or the State of Frankland)[note 1] was an unrecognized proposed state located in what is today East Tennessee, United States. Franklin was created in 1784 from part of the territory west of the Appalachian Mountains that had been offered by North Carolina as a cession to Congress to help pay off debts related to the American War for Independence. It was founded with the intent of becoming the 14th state of the new United States.

670 Now, sugar in Cornbread is a different matter (I'm agnostic on Tea, though prefer a brisk unsweetened tea).

Typical recipes with sugar (3/4 a cup, or more in a typical recipe) end up tasting like Poundcake. And I like Poundcake, but that ain't what I'm aiming for. I usually add about a heaping tablespoon. Not enough to make it "sweet" in any way, just some to bring out flavor. Same with Salt, it needs some to bring out flavor, maybe a teaspoon or so.

I see recipes with caramelized onion, Jalepeno, or even blueberries.

I come here to laugh, to cry, to learn and to contemplate, I like it better when we are happy and respectful of one another. I just sent an e-mail to one of my friends whose sister-in-law died in one of the planes on 9/11. Let us never forget this day.

I couldn't find decent sweet tea here in Oregon so I found a recipe last year so I make my own.but only occasionally.

they say it is a poison the liver wants to be free from. i assume they are right and drinking alcohol will retard your weight loss gainzz. But sometimes I think people can't see the forrest for the trees. IMO, there is not majic bullet. There is only what you choose to do and believe in.

If drinkers can not lose weight how did I love 60 pounds? I think a lot of the scholarship is valid, but I wonder if people are using it correctly. The reality is I could eat only rice and lose as much as anyone here. I recall a legit doctor I knew who lost 80 pounds only eating corn. That was truly stupid butt at that point he was done trying to be smart. I think in the end he did the surgery. I would never do that.

There are arguments for and twain. ONe for sure is about cravings etc. But really it is about calories.

Were the B&W machines usable for color. Dammit, I have a felling that is a dumb question.

Mike, the first VTRs were "low band" meaning that the FM signal sent to the tape did not have the bandwidth to do color. Later quadruplex VTRs (VR-1200 and later) used 15 IPS tape speed and a higher FM frequency to do color. Retrofit kits were made for some earlier VR-1000 machines.
