The legal folks of course are far more apt to become productive members of society, even assuming that they are coming here on the coattails of anchor babies and other unwise legal means of immigration. But the real reason for the ridiculous double standard is optics. The Biden regime wants America to have some plausible reason on which to base its assumption that the administration is actually doing something minimally competent, when in reality it is an ineffectual policy that does nothing to protect Americans from communicable disease. And lest you think this is a one-off... Here is a text from someone who is involved in the chaotic retreat from Afghanistan, provided by a long-time commenter.
I actually spent most of the day on Thursday trying to source additional aircraft for some of these folks and even a couple of government agencies whose existing contractors pulled their aircraft out of rotation after taking ground fire. Was on a concall which included folks on the ground at HKIA when the bombs went off. It's really bad over there. Even worse than the news is showing. There's no fuel left at HKIA since early in the week, so the only aircraft that can get in and out have to have range for a round trip. The civilians who have been coordinating air traffic evacuated Thursday morning. Sadly, it's only gonna get worse...and this whole disaster (and what's to come) was all 100% avoidable. I also will give a shout out to Franklin Graham and the folks at Samaritan's Purse. They are in the thick of it and have been really moving a lot of folks out. They immediately chipped in to help one of the child protection/trafficking interdiction orgs that I work closely with.I have no way to confirm this, so take it as a single data point. But the fuel situation has been reported by others. And that in a nutshell is the problem. The United States armed forces have been justifiably proud of its logistics expertise. As many are aware, the ability to supply armies is often what wins wars, yet we cannot supply fuel to maximize airlift capacity for just a few weeks? That is a failure of command, and an indication that we are no longer a serious country.

I live in Southern New Mexico and with my limited view of the situation I have eyes on seen groups of illegals hitchhiking south of Deming, people moving through the desert, and groups walking up to the Columbus border crossing and surrendering. When I am out in these regions you see the border patrol swarming the area and encountering groups with great regularity. In areas with strategic views one will encounter US Army electronic surveillance trucks doing their ever mysterious missions. In Sunland Park, just west of Juarez there is a huge gap in the wall - it is an interesting place. I have read reports that holding facilities in El Paso are maxed out too. I now consider traveling along the southern border, especially alone, to be an at risk event; break down at night and you could have a life changing experience.

1. Nations the pipelines come from might not be allowing flow, due to change in regime. American diplomatic means should allow for this to not be an issue.
2. The Taliban won't allow flow unless we unfreeze funds.
3. We don't want to leave a full tank when we leave, for a variety of reasons...we intend to cripple their use of aviation assets for the coming civil war, and having frozen their liquid assets, they might have a hard time paying for it. My personal guess as to the reason.
4. Also...helps be a talking point for "we had to leave"/"don't need civilians coming in to help".

They keep trying to portray Beau as if he was an actual soldier. He was a JAG -- a military lawyer. He wasn't in combat, he was sitting in an office, guarded by real soldiers. He was in Iraq for less than a year, and he kept his "day job" during his deployment, which was being Delaware AG.
Beau Biden died, from cancer, years after returning home from his short stint in Iraq, as a lawyer.

I read an article by somebody a couple of years ago who did some business with the Biden family (business, as in buying influence). It wasn't that Bobulinski guy, but I don't recall the guy's name, although he did use his real name for the article. He talked about how he had gone to a meeting with Frank Biden (Joe's brother) and some other people, to make the deal. Beau Biden appeared at the meeting and warned everybody present that they must never speak in public about the deal, or reveal to anyone the terms, or the Bidens would deny any knowledge of them and the deal. It was clear that Beau Biden was part of the family's crooked influence-peddling business, was aware of its impropriety (if not outright illegality) and was facilitating it anyway. Beau was just as big a crook as the rest of them.

Someone said something on one of the ONT that was interesting. That the vaccine creates a single target, the protein encoded by the vaccine, that the virus needs to mutate away from. So the vaccine selects for new variants. And it is relatively easy for that one change to occur. Whereas if we relied on on natural immunity, it is a lot harder for the virus, because it would need to change many targets.

As I said yesterday, while it's a good interview it leaves me with more questions than answers about specifics. My fault for not following things - but I stopped following A'stan about 2005 or so, despite being more/less in the biz, figuring essential mission accomplished and, well, Afghanistan.
Kash did not lay out in detail what the current crew did/didn't do since Jan. 20, which is what I want to know. Just that they dropped the ball, moved the deadline, etc. His bottom line is surely correct but the details matter, at least to me.

Thank you. He really was. Everyone loved him and he was their friend. He helped our poor, confused rescues get settled last year. The vet and her staff adored him.
Half of me is sad and half, God forgive me, is relieved that he's out of his pain. It's been hard on me these last two weeks. Had the emergency vet taken him in I wouldn't have been able to be with him, so it's better he left us while he knew I was near.
Dammit, allergies again.

Yes, my advice would be to do everything you can to avoid getting to the point where you have to go to the hospital if you get sick. Get in the best shape that you can, take prophylactics that help keep your immune system in good shape, eat well. If you do get sick, really start on the treatment protocols that are out there that you can administer to yourself that have been shown to help. I've fallen down in that area myself, due to an injury months back that made it hard for me to get my daily exercise. I need to build my cardiovacular system back up.

I have also heard that terrorists occupy some portion of the airport. I can't confirm this though. It's hard to imagine conducting flight operations under direct fire.
And the fuel situation has been on my mind too. I would not want to be one of the people assigned to refueling operations.

The US didn't have the numbers or kind of forces in place to secure Kabul, as the Afghan army and regime disintegrated. That disintegration included inside the city and immediate area. A few "elite" Afghan units didn't melt away, some have been at the airport with us. But the US would have had to provide all the muscle and personnel to control the city.
Given the actual mission (evacuation), it would have ended up being an extended perimeter for the airport, with a corridor to the mission downtown (several well informed people posted graphics of what it would entail).
It will come down to 2 keys - not having a functioning information system (can't even call it "intelligence", we're talking basic info on one's own side of the conflict) that tracked the disintegration, and not (apparently) having a menu of options for evacuation in a non-permissive environment of the sort that developed. At least looks that way. But, again, don't really know enough to say.

USAF planes have to fly a dog-leg east then north to not go over Iran. I do not know about NATO aircraft, or US and foreign civilian planes. Qatar Air Force has some C-17s and they do fly across Iran. I read an article by a Brit who flew out on one and he was surprised at the shorter flight time than he expected.

Not that it worked in Katrina -- I was stuck in that, and the inbound lanes of US 61 were completely clear while the outbound were jammed.

@BunnyFooFoo, I've been bemused for some time by the growth of Special Operations Command far beyond what's needed to arm, train, and sustain a relatively small group of SOF operators in the field. I have become convinced that everyone serious in the armed forces is migrating over to there and leaving behind their parent services for exactly that reason. In The Centurions, Larteguy postulated that there should be two armies, one for the parade ground and one that actually does the business of fighting. We are now at that point.

Iran allows civilian overflights. Done it many times going to and from Afghanistan on Safi or Flydubai. I know someone who was flying civilian from Kabul to Herat and Herat was fogged in, so the plane just went on to its next scheduled stop in Tehran. The Americans had to stay on the plane because Iran would not let them deplane, and it eventually went back to Herat.
