A Little Of This, A Little Of That...

Oceangate.jpg

Titanic Survey Expedition

While there are plenty of shipwrecks worthy of exploration, few are as iconic as that of the RMS Titanic. After over a century of exposure to everything that depths have to offer, the wreck is deteriorating at a rapid pace. In an effort to explore, chronicle and study the massive wreck before it's gone forever, OceanGate is launching a series of week-long expeditions in 2021.
Aside from the pesky issue of claustrophobia, this sounds like it would be a blast.

***

DDTAd.jpg

Of course it's funny, but it is also a sad commentary on the politicization of science and public health. I wonder how many people are dead because Rachel Carson, a profoundly evil woman, decided to write a pop science book and lie to the world?

***

VasAd.jpg

In my youth I had a girlfriend who was a skater, and she told me that during competitions they would put Vaseline on their teeth so that they could smile in spite of the dry air in the arena.

That sounds...unpleasant.

Anyone smoke flavored cigars, or cigarellos, or whatever those things are called? The ad calls them cigarettes, but I don't know about that. I like cigars on occasion, but have never tried a flavored one. I suspect that it is like flavored coffee, an acquired taste.

13 Here's the problem with You Tube. I'd prefer not to link to it. But it is still the site with years worth of quirky stuff. The alt tech sites seem to be mostly political. And You Tube wants to push the same MSM crap you can find anywhere.

But think of it. A little girl in 1900 makes a time capsule, complete with glass plate negatives of her beloved cat. It's not only developed into a paper photo, it's turned into a video published on the internet that more than a million people have seen. How cool is that? 14 For 30 years I didnt understand the lyrics to the second verse of afternoon delight.

I thought it was "I never thought a fish could love you but it didn't bite. But you got some things awaiting and I think I might, try getting in a little afternoon delight."
Which makes no sense.

Turns out it is: "I always though a fish could not be caught who didn't bite
But you got some bait awaiting and I think I might
Like nibbling a little afternoon delight"

I guess that makes more sense. But still weird.

Some cigars are infused with coffee flavors, others have tobacco that's been cured in Whiskey or Bourbon barrels that have a hint of taste.

27 flavored cigars are mostly garbage, like flavored whiskey. The best I guess are branded as "Acid" by Drew Estate. They use legit ingredients and again, to each his own, but to me, they are at best a once in a while kind of thing.

one point of interest. the Dems a decade or so ago decided to ban Kretek Cigarettes. The more famous name for theme was "clove cigarettes". These were the cigs many teens in the USA would smoke and claim they were not tobacco, but clove. There were other crazy rumors about them, I think we have all heard the rumors.

But when the Dems banned "cloves", the companies in Indonesia looked at the law and found every loophole they could. There are laws on what is a cigarette and what is a cigar. So the Indonesian companies changed the cloves to make this little cigars by law. If you buy them now, you will see they have a brown wrapper so they can be called cigars and still sold. Really this is a total waste of time and serves not legitimate purpose. But then again, isn't that what government is for?

pipe tobacco is different. There is a long history of flavored pipe tobacco and also chew. Look i don't care if people like flavored cigars, the cheap ass stuff or the high end drew estate stuff. My personal view is if you are buying a high end cigar, you want to discern flavors that are not sprayed on or put in to make a point. The same with whiskey. We all want to discern flavors, but we dont' want then manufactured and forced on us. I never said this makes sense, it is just the way it is.

I wonder if he ever talked about that. I know he used to always talk about his formerly nicotine stained fingers. He smoked cigars but i believe he did not inhale. He obviously smoked cigs at some point. but it is very difficult to say why someone gets a certain malady. I know for sure smoking cigs is bad for you and i will never deny that. But I know people in their late 80s who have smoked their entire lives. That does not mean anything other than for each person, you don't know
To be really frank, i had a friend that died of liver cirrosis. i know for a fact i have drunk more than he and for a longer time. Churchill drank for decades and lived to a ripe old age. His son drank a lot and was killed by it.

Lost on its maiden voyage. Hitting an iceberg in April, for crying out loud. Large loss of life. A number of super-rich guys died. Men let women and children go first into the lifeboats. Ship billed as unsinkable. First loss of a "mega-machine" of its day in the Industrial Era. Deaths were considered to be not a good way to go - drowning in freezing-cold water (actually not a bad way to go if you have to go, though). Designer/builder was on-board and did not survive. Bodies were retrieved from the sea and brought to land for ID and burial, for a number of days after the sinking (a "gruesome factor"). All I can think of at this instant.

i know dick about science and I have never claimed otherwise. I stick in my own lane and that has worked well so far. But what I recall when studying the issue a tiny bit, no one has been able to prove smoking x has caused y outcome. What I am saying is they know cig smoking causes lung cancer, but they can't normally prove a certain lung cancer was caused by smoking. As I recall, when smoking was huge in the 50s and 60s, they tried to figure out why there was an explosion of lung cancer. They knew it caused it, but it is hard to prove that on a case by case basis. I could be way off here, and maybe i am not making the point clearly. I do recall Peter Jennings passed from lung cancer decades after he quit.

Nope we hardly ever got sick. But if one did, we all three got it. We lived in a 10x55 trailer. I spent a long time wondering if the world would have been a better place if I had gotten killed when I was hit and she had lived, until finally by about 14 I figured out real life does not work like a 70s movie.

she was incredible. Emmylou singing Pancho and Lefty was about as good as it gets. But some others were pretty damn good, like Townes Van Zandt and even Willie and Merle. The first two choices are better.

Most people do not like holier than thou hectoring, whether it is coming from crazy SJW lefties or Rick Santorum. A new party that allowed people to oppose taxpayer funding of abortions and transgender mutilation, while declaring that they do not want to increase government power enough to ban them would have a chance to attract a broad swathe of common sense people. I simply do not think a majority of citizen voters like paying for free everything for illegals who then work for substandard cash wages. I do not think many love endless foreign wars.
