Rand Paul Moves to Stop the Sham Impeachment Trial as Unconstitutional, but Five "Republicans" Defect to the Democrats -- And It's Not the Ones You'd Guess

Just pulling your leg -- it is exactly the ones you'd guess. Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, the Abortion Twins, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, and liberal Pat Toomey.

Ron Paul moved to set aside the "impeachment" because the Constitution specifies that federal officers can be removed from office via impeachment -- obviously, private citizens cannot be removed from offices they do not hold.

The National Review Five voted with the Democrats -- as usual -- to table the motion to end the sham.

Ben Sasse, progressive mayor of Sassytown (population: Himself, his wife, and their poolboy Hector) is always lecturing conservatives about what the Constitution means, but can't be bothered to look up a short clause in the Constitution.

As you probably know, Chief Justice Roberts has said he will not be the judge at the "Impeachment." Reason: The Constitution specifies that in impeachments of the President, the presiding judge will be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

But Trump is not president.

So Roberts does not think he has any role to play here -- and for once, he's right.

This further underscores how unconstitutional this whole sham is.

Making it even more egregious: That hyperpartisan leftwing Democrat Pat Leahy will instead act as the presiding "judge." He will be both judge and juror in this sham.

But Romney, Sassy, Collins, Murky, and Toomey are still in favor of it.

A friend points out: 45 Republicans voted to at least consider Paul's motion. Only 5 "Republicans" are already in favor of throwing out the Constitution in order to take away from voters their right to vote for a candidate the Ruling Class does not approve of.

That's pretty good for Trump, though... just because they voted to discuss the matter does not mean they've concluded the impeachment is an unconstitutional, illegal, lawless exercise of Victor's Justice. (Or, rather: Cheater's Justice.)

Update: Rand Paul's speech, thanks to Lizzy.

Keep an eye on those five. Unless they are "retiring" or otherwise decide not to run, they will be re-elected, by hearty margins, despite the anger of the Trump base.

The GOP is counting that, even if they did do something to Trump, after a year of "hooray, partial lockdown lift!" high-profile punishment of the "insurrectionists" in DC and the inevitable overreach of Stinkfinger and Deep Throat, the base will once again sigh, open a fresh bottle of mustard, slather it on the shit sandwich and eat it. This ain't that world anymore. Even if you can't stop it, they should be voting against it to every man in the chamber. They aren't. Similarly, Whites live longer than Blacks because Whites are racist but Asians live longer than Whites because Whites are fat and dumb.
To sum up, if Whites ever outperform another group it's due to racism and White Privilege. If Whites ever get outperformed by another group it's because Whites suck and deserve to lose because they suck.

I have been in the Church my whole life, I have no idea what you're talking about. If you cheat on your wife or are convicted of one of many crimes, you can be admonished or kicked out. If you're just not coming to church because you're out of alignment with the Church, all that's going to happen to you is you'll get occasional visits inviting you back to Church. If you tell them you don't want any visits, they'll oblige.

If you live in Utah or Idaho or parts of Arizona and are one of the only non-members around, you'll probably feel social pressure or someone may say something off-putting, but that's universal to all human groups.

If everyone around you is a Ford fanatic and you're a Chevy guy, you're going to get some ribbing or possibly a rude comment.

Romney went to France on his mission. That's one of the harder missions because the French are the French. Also, the Church doesn't order you out, you have to volunteer to go. There's also social pressure to go, but some people choose not to. I work with a guy who didn't go on a mission. He's an Elder in good standing.

The weirdest thing about this is that the Senate already has someone to preside -- a "President of the Senate," if you will. Why the racist Democrats are preventing President of the Senate Kamala Harris from presiding over the Senate's business is a complete mystery, with the only possible explanation being racism.

At some point, perhaps soon, we're going to have to sue SCOTUS for not declaring who exactly has standing in voting and vote preservation.

As of November 2020, SCOTUS lacks standing to me. It's an illegitimate court. It doesn't even know its fundamental purpose or, worse, knows it and rejects it for political activism.

It's worse than that, if you believe the leak by a staffer (and I do). Chief Injustice Roberts said there was no way he was going to award Trump the election because riots.

Frankly, if that's SCOTUS' only (or #1) criterion for copping out and not hearing a case they're responsible to decide, then I see only one tactic left to us:

Make them fear riots by the right as much or more than they fear riots by the left.

296 Lemme float a thought and ya'll can shoot it down:

I read a link here about how long it would take Trump to form "a new party" and get it registered for elections, even if he had the personnel and money.

What's the possibility of Trump taking his massive voter base and TAKING OVER the GOP on a National level just like the Socialists have the DNC? I mean he certainly has more support than the rest of the GOP combined and one of his biggest problems as POTUS was getting stabbed in the back from his own party.

So?.....don't try to re-invent the Wheel.....just take over the party, eliminate the obstacles and recreate the party as the support he needed. He doesn't have to be POTUS to get things done if he can stand back and control the game like Soros does.

I mean THAT would be a scenario that would terrorize the Left.

At the same time, betraying your voters is much worse than betraying your wife. It strikes at the very core of representative democracy and makes the system completely untenable. Religious minorities in particular should avoid this, to avoid becoming the focus of hatred and violence from the native majority. Unless Romney IS representing the people of Utah in general and his church in particular. But I doubt that, mostly because Mike Lee also voted against this abortion.

That was certainly true last year. This year, they'll find him guilty (whatever the fuck that means) without it.

I kinda hope they do it, and do it with a secret ballot. Representatives coasting into Congress on stolen elections as a part of grand conspiracy who *also* vote in secret? Why not? Go for it. They might as well make it even clearer that representation is over, in case some of the slower folks out there don't get it yet.

That is a very accurate description of his voice.

If not an actual "impeachment" as constitutionally defined then it amounts to a bill of attainder. Now will the Supreme Court acknowledge that Congress can't convict a private person of a crime and prevent him for running for office.

481 "Did you write "Good and Hard" and "Learn to Code" on their boxes?"

Nope. Politics are a game in which there are no loyalties and nobody wins. It's not a zero sum game, it's a game people play with blunt or pointy objects to conquer the other side. At the end of the day, nobody will love you or cherish you for supporting them. They will use you and spit you out unless you demand respect and play with a much larger club in your hands to beat them with.

That's why politicians and parties always try to inflame passions and divide people against each other. That way, you never clearly see the rules of the game you're playing until it's too late.

I tell people all the time, when you're playing politics, put your passions in the drawer, take out your gun, load in very publicly and slowly place it on the table.

I donated to Romney in desperation, Oct 2012. Substantial donation. Of course I regret it now. His greasy campaign staff paid themselves handsomely and he took a dive.

Within 10 days, I had a letter from the IRS about a tax return from 2 or 3 years earlier.

Posted by: Trump poisoned my cat

McConnell is a mealy-mouthed asshole, who talks out of both sides of his mouth, depending on who his audience is.
He had a big hand in torpedoing the Tea Party way back when, and doesn't like other people messing with his payola and graft in the Senate.
If Rand is really trying to "help" McConnell, he is making a mistake. And I doubt that Rand is trying to help McConnell.

There. How was that? I knew my Senator had anti-Trump tendencies but he was generally reliable in not voting for Left-wing nonsense. Had I known he'd not only stab this voter in the back but twist the knife, I'd have written in a name on election day. Now the bastard is there for 6 more years. This voter would like to apologize for his misguided vote and for the majority of the State which mistakenly subjected the country to his BS.

502 None of the Senators named have liberal voting records per the American Conservative Union. Collins is about equidistant between the caucuses. The scores of Sasse and Toomey rank 7th and 8th among the Republican caucus.
Four of the five people who've taken this position have a history of antagonism to the administration. Do not believe that describes Toomey.
