Without too much identification, the suburban settings are almost as bad as the city settings.
Rural settings are ok, but you're looking at departments which don't hire that often.

The detective is right. I got into this job for all the right reasons - trying to keep people safe - but I would forbid my kids for entering in law enforcement. It's not just the big cities which are ruining the job, but even small towns.
The folks who talk about people defending themselves are 100% correct. Policing as we know it will be gone in a few years, and the old-timers like myself are fleeing the job.

Insom, I know where you are coming from. I am working 70+ hours a week at a site I detest (separate story and issue from the hours.) Taking steps to change the situation. At least you have kids to show for schlepping around this pebble for a few decades.
Put some time in at the new job and start looking for something else. Don't quit, but there is no harm in looking. Hell, even looking might make you feel better.

I worked at Target night shift restocking one Cristmas season as s second job to help make ends meet. They made us stay 30 minutes after store opening to help customers. The theory was we were the ones who stocked the shelves so we'd know where everything was. Mostly I just walked around trying to avoid people. This has been the Left's cognitive error from the start - your chances of dying from the CCP virus are minimal unless you are over 80, or have severe comorbidities.
Trump is 74, and his only comorbidity is obesity.
Bluntly, almost everyone who dies of CCP virus would have died from something else within five years.
The Left has to believe that CCP virus is a lot more fatal than it is, in order to justify all the lockdowns.
That being said, I hope Trump agrees to spend a few more days in the hospital, to guard against any relapse, and to be properly rested. If he largely takes the week off, and is sure that he kicked the virus, that gives him three more weeks to campaign.

Aside from a few good Lutheran churches and the occasional good Presbyterian or Episcopal church, mainline Protestant churches are mostly defunct. For the most part, the most active churches are some flavor of Evangelical or conservative Catholic. LDS is doing well, too, but they tend to mostly concentrated in Utah.
I think it is possible to be Christian and a Democrat, but the Democrats are doing their best to alienate historical Christians.

Poor car is gonna ride low, again. I can see the TV news reports now. "Driver apprehended with a dozen guns and several thousand rounds of ammunition!". Delivered in their panicked, aghast voices of course.
When the stick the mic in the back seat of the cop car to ask me why I had "several thousand rounds of ammunition", I'll answer in the only truthful way:

I'll bet he doesn't have a faulty infuser like I did either. Alarm would go off for no reason a couple times a day. I had a roommate too, one that would never allow the damn TV to be shut off. He had to have it on 24 hrs/day.
But the noise that really gets to you is stomping feet in the corridor. Very quickly you get the impression that people are doing it on purpose. It seems to get louder and louder. In jail, it shook the floor and reverberated thru the bench. It was worse than the food, and worse than having to take a dump in front of all the other prisoners.

that was Chi Chi Rodriguez. I was i a Spanish class in college and we were supposed to to a report of someone of Hispanic origin. I chose Chi Chi. He was a really good guy and I had some good lines to say about him. But when I told the teacher about my subject, he looked at me strangely and said something like "don't mess with Chi Chi". The teacher was from Puerto Rico but his looked told me to abandon ship.
I did my speech on Seve and that is fine, he was my favorite golfer at the time. He was from Spain. Too bad Seve is long gone and though he was younger than Chi Chi, Chi Chi is still around. The Seve passing was tragic really. He was beloved in Europe, particularly by the Brits He married into I think royalty, actual royalty in Spain. I could be wrong there but he married very well.
He died too young of some type of brain cancer. He was no Chi Chi mind you, the guy had a huge chip on his shoulder. Even though many Americans loved him, he wanted to beat them in the Ryder Cup more than he wanted to do anything on earth. And he said some bad things about America and Americans that came out later. Too bad because everyone loved his style. But the guy always had a chip on his shoulder. Still a great golfer though and he had more charisma than 99 percent of the people out there today.

Ugh. Thankfully both my recent hospitalizations have been private rooms so I didn't have to deal with a roommate...but that didn't help with the corridor. Even the fan I got from them only dampened the noise a bit.

The hospital charged me $4,000 per day. Can't imagine what a private room would have cost. (That was in 2005.) I paid the bill in full, then found out only afterward that standard procedure is to challenge every line item on the bill, wear them down for hours until they discount it. Won't make that mistake again.

Someone of real ability should do a bio of Trevino. He is a very interesting person. He was one of the true greats in his time. He was known for always joking and chatting, but his jokes often had a barb and anger about them. I won't take that too far but he was a different kind of dude. He was mostly a loner on Tour, and still is in many ways. He is still around and if he is talking, it is often worth listening to.
He came from a very poor background in I think West Texas. He made his living playing other for money, not on tour but straight up gambling. Probably his most famous quote was about pressure. He said real pressure was trying to make a putt for on a $10 bet with $5 in your pocket. That is not the exact quote but that was the gist of it.

I was in for cancer treatment both time, so I'm not sure double occupancy was an option the first time, and the second was chemo that wiped out my immune system and every room in that wing looked to be single occupancy.

My hospital bill for my heart excitement was large and my checkbook was not so I paid $25 or $50 a month for a time. Eventually, some clerk from their billing office called and asked if they reduced it could I pay it off.
I gave them a ridiculously low number and the lady said "Deal!". It probably was a quarter of what the face amount of the outstanding bill was. Never know unless you ask.

Arnie was the King and Jack was better. The crowds hated him for beating the King so many times. They called him Fat Jack, they booed him, and even kicked Arnie's ball in to a better place if they had the chance. Things changed when people realized how great Nicklaus was. It was a bit like Tiger. Some didn't like him at first, but they had to respect the skill.
Jack and Arnie became very close over the years but they always competed. They competed not just on the course but in business. They both got into marketing and course design I would guess the two combined have built over 100 courses worldwide. And you are talking mega bucks.
I finally decided Jack was the greatest when I attended a major tournament long after his prime. I saw types like Norman and Vijay treat fans like a nuisance and ignore them as best as they could. I was never an autograph seeker, but this one time I joined in. I recall Nicklaus stood there in the crowd until he signed everyone's flag, shirt, whatever. These other guys that were much lesser, could not be bothered. After that, Nicklaus has never done wrong in my view. Btw, he is a huge Trump supporter.

Yeah I was a real sap. I was flush at the time and didn't give it enough thought. Cashed out 12 ounces of gold to help pay it. Look up the Oct 2005 gold price and see how low I sold. I had a 35% gain at that point, but cripes I missed out on a lot of upside.

Arnie's Army was a true pile of shit, making noise while other players were addressing the ball and otherwise being major pains in the balls. It maybe wasn't fair but I stopped cheering for Arnie after that.

One of our past dogs (Australian Cattle Dog) ate half a pound of See's candies; she was fine. You figure maybe only 15% of the candies is chocolate... mostly milk chocolate which is itself well below 50% chocolate. Turns out it usually takes a LOT of chocolate to be lethal to a dog, although some dogs are more sensitive to it than others. We're talking 100+ oz. to reach 50% lethality for a medium-sized dog. When I listened to vinyl back then, despite having a "good" turntable and being careful with handling, the records always quickly got scratchy, noisy, popped, and some records were punched off center or warped, so there'd be wow or skips. Is there something magic about vinyl and/or turntables today that has eliminated those problems?

I thin it's fair to say that vinyl thrives better in some environments than others. If you live (or lived with) smokers, or in an especially dust-prone environment, it could be tricky to keep LPs and other vinyl sounding its best all the time.
I still remember a lot of people would transfer anything vinyl to cassette on the *first play,* and then never touch the album again, always listening to the cassette.
Also, in fairness, a number of pressing plants didn't value their finished product. I remember in particular, MCA's LPs always seemed especially prone to sounding, er, "not great," even right out of the package, and some record labels such as RCA were notorious for pressing albums on super-thin wafers of vinyl. I believe this went for "budget pressings" as well a lot of the time.
Today many of the LPs available are pressed to *thick* vinyl, to audiophile standards, and the price reflects that. Also, a little of the turntable technology is better today, and thanks to USB connections it's much easier to dub straight to digital today.

I'll bet he doesn't have a faulty infuser like I did either. Alarm would go off for no reason a couple times a day. I had a roommate too, one that would never allow the damn TV to be shut off. He had to have it on 24 hrs/day.
Walter Reed has long kept a special Presidential suite available for just such an emergency. You can find some pictures of it on the net; it's becoming a meme. From one story about it: "Walter Reed Hospital has a six-room presidential suite just for the commander in chief that includes an intensive care unit, a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom, & a dining room with a crystal chandelier."

Some folks claim to be able to hear a difference in fidelity between vinyl and digital. I don't know if that's ever been double-blind tested, but it seems to me that if you hear pops and dust noise, it's probably vinyl, or digital recorded from a vinyl or acrylic source.
I know I can't hear the difference, because I made myself nearly deaf from listening to the big-can headphones of the 1970s while drunk. I still have all the open-reel tapes I made back then, but nothing to play them on, and no need to.

Well, it wasn't High Tea, but a friend came over from a town about an hour away, and we drove up the highway to the next little town, and had a steak sammich in the little hotel bar, along with beers. No mask, no bullshit. And the steaks were great! Over an inch thick, like filets, With a big helping of fries and gravy on the side. $13 CDN. That's a good deal, these days.

The big deals in the 1980s, when CDs were first introduced, were noise-free music/transmission, and dynamic range. People wanted to be able to hear anything and everything EXCEPT tape hiss or a dusty record surface.
So CDs were introduced... but one of the first things people complained about? There was no "warmth." It turns out vinyl adds these near-indecipherable, almost unexplainable, yet very present, attributes to music. Engineers had to figure out how ADD BACK IN distortion, to make digital masters properly and get people to purchase and listen to CDs.
Today when you talk to vinyl fans, they don't give a flying fig about surface noise, will swear to you today's LPs have all the dynamic range of a CD, and go on forever about the "warmth." It's uncanny. :-)

damn, you are old school Captain Hate! I have read about it and watched it on tv. That was one of the most famous tourneys in history. Venturi was so fatigued, they had to give him an iv.
I did see some Senior Tour stuff and I have pics of Chi Chi. But my encounter was with Nicklaus at Congressional in 1997. I still have the flag and autographs. If only Nicklaus signed it, it would be worth something. But I had everyone sign in, even Nick Faldo's coach, David Leadbetter. I didn't care, and that was the only time I did the autograph thing.
I agree about Arnie's Army. They could be really tough on Jack. It was nice I guess to see Jack was protective of Arnie in his final years. They did a press conference at The Masters not long before Arnie passed, and Jack was almost like a Mother Hen. I respected that. Jack was the greatest not only for his wins but how he did it. Not only for how he did it but how he carried himself.
The thing about Palmer that always stood out to me is how he never stopped fighting and never stopped living. He and most of his family faced severe illness, but they always drove on. He lost his beloved wife, but he kept living and remarried. I look at his life as an example in many ways.

I have to say I'm skeptical about that, without rigorous double-blind listening experiments to prove it.
The thing I liked about CDs and DVDs is that I expected them not to deteriorate thru use. But that turned out to be a false hope.
I'm very happy now with streaming the infinite catalog on the internet. These days, I never listen to the same thing twice. Always listen to new stuff I've never heard before. Breadth and depth of catalog >> fidelity for me.

I mostly listen to books on tape. Before they purged them, I preferred cassettes from the library. If I ever got a large book on tape in the CD format, there would inevitably be a scratched CD and you had to skip that part.

you didn't experience that? A CD is easy to scratch or break. You have to work real hard to break a cassette

Cassettes are durable in terms of the case, but in my experience the tape inside could/would degrade fast. It was also never fun when my player went sideways and looped out a ton of the tape, causing it to become damaged.

Fortunately, cassettes are self-breaking. Takeup spool stops turning, and capstan spews tape into guts of player. Bad words get said.

I'm old school in so much that a good BBQologist tends his fire from start to finish to produce the good eats and it is because of this....the eats are finer for the effort

It's easy to make CDs look perfect, but you still want them to sound perfect as well.
I've learned that marks on CDs are okay; it's anything that leaves an actual groove, or debris/fluid that's piled up, that's worrisome.

scratches scatter the light beam from the laser, so it does not reflect off the pits in the metal layer as designed. Buffing the plastic makes it optically clear again.

AZR/ARM keeps chugging along.
As expected, actual info not easy to come by, as both sides kinda doing the Third World thing (lots of bombastic claims, and outraged protests, etc etc), with ARM perhaps just a bit less ridiculous.
Festivities in far north, and far south, of disputed N-K region (all info agrees on this). AZR and Turkey claiming AZR has taken Fizuli, the biggest town in the south. Except for some parts of Georgia, that little area was my favorite part of the former USSR that I have visited.
Surprised that AZR has been able to sustain activity this long, just assumed they'd be suffering from the usual pathologies that lead to military mediocrity. Then again we don't have much detail. And Turkey has been helping them get more game (and Israel).
