Mask Theater At Restaurants Is Getting Gross
[Buck Throckmorton]

My wife and I have been trying to support local restaurants throughout the Wuhan Virus panic, first getting takeout one or two nights per week, and ever since our elected officials started “allowing” restaurants to seat guests, we have dined out at least once each weekend. Initially the only “mask theater” I could see was my waiter bringing me food. Having now gone to some restaurants where the food prep is done in view of the patrons, I now realize how gross and unsanitary the whole charade is. In recent weeks we have been at restaurants where we can see food prep, beverage service, etc. Every single restaurant employee is constantly tugging at his mask, adjusting it, pulling it down, and then pulling it back up, etc. And overwhelmingly they grab it right below the nose - the humid, warm spot where they have been exhaling for hours. But they’re wearing gloves, right? Right, the same gloves they’ve been wearing all night as they grab plates and glasses from tables, and the same gloves they’ve been wearing while grabbing at the warm, humid mask all night.

Now I am no expert on infectious diseases (nor are any of the epidemiologists bluffing their way through this hysteria), but I am pretty sure that if we are worried about Wuhan Flu being spread by oral or nasal exhalations, then it is unwise to have the people serving our food constantly sticking their fingers into a moist petri dish of nasal exhaust. How about we ditch the masks and gloves, and just have the employee sanitize his hand every time he visits a table. That has to be more sanitary than getting a thumbprint of nasal exhaust with every plate or beverage refill.

2 We saw a family of five little elementary school aged girls with their masks on, and their mother without.

I get it. Their friends are doing it yadda yadda. But that was jarring for some reason.

3 This has nothing to do with reason.

Mandating masks delegates the authority to have people kiss one's ring to the Karens.

People also behave differently [worse] when wearing masks.

8 Posted it before, but speaking of COVID and restaurants, the only reason Floyd was out dying on the street that day was because he lost his job from the panic.

Seems like that would be a useful thing for politicians to be drawing attention to.

But that isn't visible enough. Another problem, especially with the globes is that plastic is just a great carrier. Really good. Gloves make cross-contamination worse unless you're disciplined and change them out often (which they don't). To do it "right" a poor waitress probably has to change her gloves a couple of hundred times a night, at every potential cross-contamination point. It is completely impossible and will never happen, and isn't necessary.

The glove theater is probably *worse* than not having gloves and washing up routinely.

18 It's not just restaurants - everywhere I go half the employees aren't wearing masks at all - the ones that are have it off their nose or have it under their chin, and maybe they'll pull it up when someone gets close to them. It's total nonsense.

19 It's been good to finally go out to eat and grab a beer or two here, especially al fresco in the warmer weather.

The only masks are worn by the staff. If you do go dine out, consider an extra generous tip if you don't already. They can definitely use it.

20 I was in a grocery store where all the employees have to wear masks and gloves. I was checking out and the man in front of me paid cash. When it was my turn, I asked the cashier, "Why are you wearing gloves?" All she could say was it was part of their uniform now. I said, "Well, if you're wearing them to protect me, it's not working. You just handled dirty cash and now you're using the same gloves to handle my groceries. You'd be better off not wearing gloves and just cleaning your hands." Her eyes got really big and she stripped them off and got some new ones. Of course, it was too late. And I didn't really care, I was just sick of the theater and had to voice my opinion. I also told her I wasn't picking on her, just the stupid system.

23 My dad went to his local Kroger this week and when he was checking out, the clerk was getting a new mask and gloves out. He told her, "don't bother. I don't care. It's hot and humid and you shouldn't do it, if for no other reason than your own comfort."

He says she took him up on his offer and asked him to not tell her boss.

31 Its usually better not to watch your food being prepared. Pro Tip: if something raw falls on the floor, and its going to be cooked enough anyway, its safe.

Yep. If they were to do it the correct way, I think they would have to toss the gloves and put on a new pair every single time they touched their mask.

Chefs on TV are always going on about "cross contamination" but they never wash their hands while making food. Nor wear gloves. The concept is valid, but not as bad as they act like it is. You can use the same knife to chop up anything you're cooking, if you cook it all enough to kill the germs.

I started re-watching CSI but I've learned so much about how real criminalists work its almost painful to behold. They don't document before examining anything, they only rarely wear coverings on their feet, they stomp all over the place going into a crime scene, they wear the same gloves the entire process, they put stuff into insecure, or unsealed packaging, its just awful.

Double glove. Change gloves between each object and area. Photo EVERYTHING before touching it, with multiple shots including rulers to document relative size. Not location. THEN maybe consider picking something up to pose with it by the camera.

They should adopt the doctors office procedure. When Doc comes into exam room, Doc immediately squirts his/her hands with hand sanitizer. Does three things. Sanitizes, prevent cross contamination, had gives patient peace of mind.

Restaurants should do the same. Several dispensers set out in dinning room.

You can put them on, make a sandwich, take and make change for the customer, wipe down a counter with some stinky solution, pick your nose, make another sandwich, pet your dog, etc., etc.

And you'll never get sick!
As someone who trained restaurant workers in sanitation in the 80s and 90s, I'd hate it when a local health district inspector would tell restaurant owners to make their employees wear gloves. I mean there's a reason every freaking restaurant has to have a HANDWASHING SINK in the kitchen people.

How about a black penis shooting forth a rainbow?

Proposed motto: Taste the rainbow until you can't breathe!

81 Asking for reason in this environment is like putting a sign on one's rear saying "Kick me" LOL.

We visited a restaurant a couple of weeks ago--had called ahead. When we arrived they insisted that we wear a mask while we walked to our table--8 feet away. At that point we were "free" they said, to remove it, but we must don it again for any trips to the men's or ladies' rooms.

I objected as it was nonsensical--particularly as there were many patrons (well more than the 25% occupancy officially sanctioned at the time--silly me to notice). The tables were less than 6 feet apart.

But we submitted, only to suffer the scolding from the hostess afterwards. At that point, when she (wrongly) argued that we were required to do this by law (not, we live in Texas), we left. Will never go there again.

If there is an economy left after the Leftists work through their blatant coup, I suspect this place will not survive.

82 I watched an old woman pull a pair of latex gloves out of her purse to open the door into a convenience store. I am guessing that these were the same pair of gloves that she wore everywhere else and then put neck into her purse when she got in her car. I didn't have the heart to tell her that all of the contents of her purse were contaminated by the gloves, including the car keys that she had just put back into her purse with her bare hands.

Ran down the road to Target. No line. No mask required (though I was the *only* person in the store without one), walked out with my microwave.

Absurdly, though, the clerk had to wipe down the card reader and counter after *every* transaction. Lines don't move fast in those circumstances.

110 Slice of Americana to cheer you up:

My
mom, Pookette, and I cruised the town garage sales this afternoon.
(Pookette called it "garaging.") It was hot, so some kids set up water
bottle and lemonade stands to make a bit of money. One little girl sat
on a cooler and when we bought a bottle of water, hummed to herself
while drying it off with a towel for us. People were polite while
browsing and made use of offered hand sanitizer bottles, but no one wore masks. One lady
insisted that my mom take a candle holder for free because she didn't
have the correct votive cups for it. Another woman made sure not to take
the masking tag sticker off my mom's new purse because it had been
sitting in the sun and she was worried that it would stick permanently. I
came home with two full bags and spent about $40.

Take heart that most Americans are kind, decent people.

First: Neurotic since food poisoning over a decade ago

Fourth: Even in medical use, some dimwits don't change gloves between patients, etc. So one pair of gloves per night? After bathroom use? Harf.
That said, between today's backstabbing of our President by another military guy I trusted, I don't want to know anything more.

122 At first I was annoyed that restaurants were closed to diners. I made sure to buy take-out from several of my favorites, and they are still steaming along. But . . .

. . . my bank balance looks a lot better now after 2.5 months of eating mostly at home! Going out to eat here is like having an elephant suck your money right out of your wallet with his trunk. It's hard for two people to get away from a moderately priced place here (say, TGIFriday's) for less than $30 including the tip and NOT including anything to drink besides ice water (and I await with horror the day they start to charge for that).

Sure, compared to NYC or LA, $30 is pin money, but I don't live in those places. And I remember when two people could go to Bennigan's, have burgers *and* an appetizer, probably some ice tea, leave a tip, and come away with a dollar or so change from a $20 bill. (Of course that was 1984 when gas was $1 a gallon.)

The sanitary issues Buck mentions just make it worse.

179 81 Asking for reason in this environment is like putting a sign on one's rear saying "Kick me" LOL.

Damn, I'm really depressed today. This week, three different friends/families have essentially gone bankrupt, I have learned. One is barber shop, out of personal savings, and no place to get money. He has 4 chairs he rents, and those folks are broke, too. Another is a restaurant, actually they have 3 stores and none will open up again. Twenty five years down the drain, including living through 2009-2010.

The third one is a couple that sunk their life savings into a 12-plex apartment building, and is both their full time job and their retirement plan. They spent 6 or 7 years finding good tenants, and creating a really nice little community. It pays off because everyone gets along, tenants want to stay, and their average tenant is over 4 years. They hold off rent increases as best they can, to keep these good tenants. Anything that breaks is fixed immediately, and is kept up.
Four tenants haven't paid rent since March because they didn't get any PPP money. They are all in the restaurant business, either managers or highly paid servers or bartenders that get great tips. Two have told them that their June rent isn't coming, for the same reason.

The result is that their cash reserves are gone. They can't pay their mortgage on the 12-plex, and even though they have a few hundred thousand in equity, banks won't touch them for any kind of loan or refinance.

Oh, and they need to have some money for things like food. Nope.

All of these folks are salt of the earth, donate time to charities, schools, youth, etc. One of the restaurant managers continually hires great people, some of the most efficient and friendly staff you would ever encounter.

Jay Insless yesterday, in his daily press conference that will only accept pre-chosen questions from friendly reporters, and no follow up questions, said he protects the "protesters" have a 1st Amendment right to protest! So after beating citizens over the head with the fake science, suddenly it doesn't matter when rioters want to march shoulder to shoulder. You've seen the Seattle riot video the last few days.

This is from Mr Science, Jay has continued to beat his dead horse "models" instead of the last 90 days of actual, real data. It is truly pathetic.

The level of cocksucker that Jay Insless is can not be measured. He is ruining thousands of lives each day. People I know well.

Jay Insless does not care how many people go bankrupt, commit suicide, divorce, or lose their homes to the bank.

Jay Insless yesterday blamed the situation on President Trump, although I really don't understand why. He continually bitches about Trump, he hates him.

But at least he opened up the Indian casinos. No small businesses or restaurants or salons. but the Indians (Washington State is the only state of 37 states that takes zero cut in taxes) are one of the strongest Democrat constituencies in the state. So of course they get their way.

FUCK YOU TO HELL, JAY INSLEE!

I think part of it is being too invested into the system. You have to sweat blood and tears massive time to make it into the military but a military career can be snuffed out in 2 seconds if you engage in wrongthink. Just ask Flynn.

It's similar with the FBI, one of the hardest law enforcement agencies to get into, imagine investing years to make it into the bureau and then met with the real prospect of throwing it all away so you can do the right thing. Not that it excuses them being traitors and all, but explains a few things.

260 "Don't you just love businesses that cheerfully do everything in their power to leave money on the table?: Catch Thr33

Yes, exactly! I am just amazed at how plum ignorant so many of these businesses are. The overreaction to COVID is epically stupid, and I guess revelatory of the idiots that run many businesses (large and small).

Two more examples:
Went to Nordstroms last week (before full riot mode had taken over). Really in the mood to shop a bit. Encountered miles of screaming yellow tape, little merchandise and lots of stickers explaining all they were doing to "protect me" from the virus. BAAGHGHGHG

Today, went to return an item at a specialty store (national, but smallish). They have already reduced their hours to 4 hours/day. This is in TX where we've been open since May 1 btw. Informed at the door that I could not come in as I had not made "an appointment". Only 3 shoppers at a time plus the 4 staff--not even the original limit of 10 people in a space. Oh, and anyway, could not take my return but I was "welcome" to take it to FedEx. I stood my ground and insisted that they at least give me a package so I would not have to pay to return the item. Another retailer off my list. Guess I'll be saving even more $$ now.

No wonder retail is dying. They are committing suicide, knowingly.

True enough...but what you cannot have is this getting picked up and ran with by main stream media outlets - ie repeated as truth by the US media in an effort to convince Americans that the executive branch no longer controls the military or much else in any real since without a major coordinated blow back by the DOD and the Joint Chiefs and the President - otherwise it becomes extremely destabilizing. A republic is a fragile thing, and requires tending to at all times, by everyone.

286 The idea that universities are for adolescents is
odd. It always seemed to me - even when I was in one right after high
school - that the whole structure seemed like it would be a lot more
valuable to an adult with some experience (and I don't mean backpacking
across Europe during your "gap year").

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at June 04, 2020 05:45 PM (hYcqw)

The idea of university as a place to hide out for 4+ years before growing up always struck me as odd. Before the system, you had a patron, or you sought out knowledge on your own or in apprenticeships.

I may have been ahead of my time, but with faced with elitist, credentialist snobbery at the time, I was more of the opinion that the single biggest influence on the quality of education is the pupil.

292 If Trump wins, we buy another couple of years. I'll take it. I could use the time. I no longer harbor any illusions about things being fixable. I do still think that the inevitable can be delayed for another few years, though.

I think another couple of years will actually be very helpful

If I say why once again, I'll make some of you mad so please understand I'm super-generalizing here. I know what I'm talking about is just a subset and many Boomers are NOT like this. but the subset I'm talking about has a lot of influence, still.

what's happening now is generational change. they were this big huge very doted-upon demographic and they're noticing that they're actually getting old. they're looking around and sensing their mortality. THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN TO THEM!

now I know a lot of them are not self absorbed ex-hippies. I definitely totally realize that. but the ones I know and are around here? they're pretty much self-absorbed ex-hippies.

and this is a wealthy area, I think it's fairly indicative of NY/DC/Boston axis as well.

they're not going to go out without taking America with them. or maybe they're just nihilist now because for them, personally, the End is Nigh (not that nigh but these are pretty much drama queens in general).

The US Baby Boomers cannot imagine that this world will keep spinning without them. We just have to hold on and hang in. They're not going to go gently into that good night, but eventually they WILL finally decide to slow down and retire. Or it will be decided for them

297 Yes, exactly!

***********

We need a few years to mainstream our secessionist parties beginning with Texas and Alaska and start breaking counties off.

Virginia showed what was possible, I always thought you secede by state, but it seems more viable to me for counties to band together and form their own states. Colorado also had a few counties that wanted to secede but they're not permitted to do so because of state law as made by Denver, which makes no sense, especially in an age when the left think they can simply ignore the law if they don't like it.

I don't cook chicken for myself, as I have the culinary skills of your average twelve-year-old, and that shit will kill you if you don't know what you're doing. 323 After 1 1/2 weeks's BS about Minneapolis city Dem govt sanctioned choke hold policing and subsequent "knee jerk" indictments we are overlooking the obvious. Good to get these policemen into justice system but I fear difficulty into bringing actual convictions. Change of venue for certain and there WILL be whites on jury. OJ over again.
This's SBD. Not racism. Systemic Black Dependency. The blacks will not embrace their cultural deficiencies and are quick to blame every one else. Look at Chicago crime statistics ... it being 33% black. Dreadful. Check across US black on black crime. They commit 75% of crimes with less than 33% population. What would you have police do? ... treat them like Muslims in Paris? MLK recognized the problem but Da Jesse and Da Revrin Sharpless (yeah and I also forgot the racist loudmouth Calypso Louis) made and will continue to rake in lotsa bucks on pimp poverty.Vote for Dems!!! Another 3 generations of Black regression.
Funny how blacks always have a finger out for any other ethnic group (Whites (which really are composed of what?) Asians, and any other culture that values education and getting ahead). And note we've agreed (usually over a barrel) with Dems trying for three gens to get them up to the medium with legislation. 3 Gen Failure Blacks (Afro-Americans) have a culture that does largely not value education...or complete (not single) parenthood family. Continue to fall behind. This's not about slavery, but about cultural and personal irresponsibility...self destructive culture and we're watching it burn before us. They'll 'jus' wait fer "reparations" and any other good 'ole hand out' from " Massas" on the Dem Plantation. Life good on "De Ole Plantation."

"P.S) Any of you black "victims" 'Jus might git a gig pissing and moaning on CNN". !!

Add: Thank God for the black families that have endeavored to raise themselves and their families above this BS and are joining us in constructive achievement.

BTW Thanks.
