248 Pinback: [making video diary entry] I do not like the men on this spaceship. They are uncouth and fail to appreciate my better qualities. I have something of value to contribute to this mission if they would only recognize it. Today over lunch I tried to improve morale and build a sense of camaraderie among the men by holding a humorous, round-robin discussion of the early days of the mission. My overtures were brutally rejected. These men do not want a happy ship. They are deeply sick and try to compensate by making me feel miserable. Last week was my birthday. Nobody even said "happy birthday" to me. Someday this tape will be played and then they'll feel sorry.

NASA's YT blurb on the feed:

Watch history unfold on Saturday,
May 30, as NASA and SpaceX launch astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas
Hurley to the International Space Station. This mission marks the first
time since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011 that humans will
fly to the space station from U.S. soil. The mission's first launch
attempt on Wednesday, May 27 was scrubbed due to weather conditions.

Tune in starting at 11 a.m. EDT as NASA and SpaceX provide joint,
live coverage from launch to arrival at the space station. Teams are
targeting 3:22 p.m. EDT for the launch of the SpaceX Crew Dragon
spacecraft atop a Falcon 9 rocket from historic Launch Complex 39A at
NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Crew Dragon is scheduled to
dock to the space station on Sunday, May 31.

339 All ya'll who are fascinated by space travel, or even if you're just mildly amused by technology like this, you MUST go to this website:

www.ApolloInRealTime.Org

It has the complete Apollo 11, 13 and 17 missions, from one minute to launch to recovery at sea of the astronauts. When I see complete, I mean every single word spoken by all stations of mission control and astronauts is seen in transcripts, you hear all the audio, see every picture taken and every frame of video, in order as it occurred.

It is probably the most technically incredible website I've ever seen. You can spend weeks just watching.

I work an MDA subcontract as a Lockheed employee under Boeing as prime. They are corrupt, shoulder to shoulder, from every person above the basic level 5 engineer all the way to the top. They deserve to be liquidated with aggression, their capital assets sold off, and the level 5 and below engineers brought over to the other defense businesses.

What we all want to happen to the FBI, needs to happen to Boeing for the same reason. Inept, corrupt, halfassed leadership.

Level 1 = college bs, no experience
Level 2 = college bs, 5 years experience
Level 3 = college ms, or ten years experience
Level 4 = college ms, or 15 years experience
Level 5 = college PhD, or 20 years experience
Level 6 = college phd, or 25 years experience & a college ms
Level 7 = director, no experience, MBA maybe, usually retired military or retired pilot from commercial
Level 8 = vice president, retired military general officer, or possibly an extremely good engineer that survived past level 5.

Basically, the people running the show rarely know what the business technical aspects are and how to run it. Thie is what got them the 737 max, and the 'redesigned FBI kill vehicle', and the failed space line of business.

Is it obvious that I have a 4-hour problem with Boeing?

A lot to this although the recent 12,000 plus layoff at Boeing will be an opportunity to clean house a bit.
Boeing's big problems with NASA and the Air Force were a result of the merger with MacD. The MacDonnel Douglas Management Team was awful.

The Environmental Impact Statement for Project Orion might be a bit difficult to get approved.

"First we set of an 200MT H-bomb. Then, every second, we only use 40KT atomic bombs. "

Why yes, we are up wind of Las Vegas, Phoenix and Texas. Why do you ask?

And I know that in Footfall. the Orion 'Smite the Aliens Big Dumb Object' was launched from Bremerton, Washington. An awesome ending to that book.

Boeing really was Seattle when I was growing up. It employed my dad and probably 20-25 percent of our neighbors, everyone from mechanics to mathematicians (my dad). I didn't know until after my dad died the extent of his involvement in satellite and other space programs- not because it was secret, but because no kids really cared about their parent's jobs. Later, my brother also worked at Boeing for 20+ years, but he is not a fan because of the management changes.
