Surprise! Deep State Aligned "Republican" Senators Once Again Refuse to Dig Into Obamagate

Miss Lindsey says that Obama cannot, will not, must not be called to testify.

But Miss Lindsey sure will give 'im hell on Fox & Friends, where it counts!!!

Trump's Senate allies on Monday stopped short of echoing Trump's claim that Obama acted illegally when the Justice Department began probing incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn in late 2016. And they indicated that the Senate would pass on investigating the former president as they conduct their own investigations that could soon ensnare other senior Obama administration officials.

"I'm not anticipating calling President Obama, "said Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), whose panel is investigating the origins of the 2016 Russia investigation, even as he vowed to bring in former senior Obama administration officials as witnesses. Those ex-officials include former FBI Director James Comey and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

...

Senate Republicans, however, sidestepped questions of whether the Justice Department should pursue criminal investigations against the former Obama officials...

Senate Republicans largely demurred on Trump’s public effort to lean on investigators to target his longtime adversaries, but they said they understood why he was frustrated.

"He was accused of being a stooge for [Vladimir] Putin and then subject to the appointment of a special counsel," added Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee. "I understand why the president feels like he's under assault. But I think we need to do our own independent investigation. Obviously, Mr. Durham is doing his. We’ll hear from them. But I think we have an important role to play in terms of congressional oversight."

What role is that, Johnny Boy? Faking up Failure Theater productions?

Last week, Tucker Carlson accused Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and Richard Burr as essentially being silent partners of the Democrats in their Deep State coup efforts.

Skip to 10:50. Carlson calls McConnell, Graham, and Burr "total phonies who pretend to represent you... but they don't."

Now, in terms of the feasible, I also understand feeling that going after Obama is a bad idea.

Thankfully, in the era of Trump, it at least looks like "is" might be slowly giving way to "was". We have a long way to go to get the ship righted, and it seems like the whole world is against us, because it is.

America is unique in all the world. Every other society has a top-down view of leadership and governance. Even when the leaders are elected, they say, you do.

The American model is bottom-up. We say, the and the government does. Those who wish to be leaders, and leaders abroad are uncomfortable with our existence, and our unprecedented success.

We've proven that mankind does not need them, that they are not essential. Their egos and their pride will not allow that conclusion.

When I next hear from Obama, I want it to be a full videotaped confession, the primary condition to Trump giving him a pardon. Sufficient to execute or imprison his entire cabinet, while forever marking him as the spineless rat he is. I want to grab his base and rub their noses in it.

He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it

I have never liked the phrase. It is meaningless to me. When it comes to the Presidency, the Constitution is the law - that is usually where we are fighting. And the President is conferred Constitutional powers that only the President has. If the President acts outside of those powers, he is acting in an unconstitutional manner, and the proper push back should come from Congress, the Courts, and ultimately the People.

That will simmer, becoming more delicious as time passes.

Likely this would take all the time remaining til election day, or beyond.

At that point, most likely, the country will come up against its sad lack of seriousness and inability to rise above people-worship and racism - i.e. no indictment of the ring-leader. Then - a Trump pardon, before it is clear there is no additional prosecution action in store.

At the same time, the actions those affiliated with the Obama WH have undertaken, even against private citizens, is its own kind of damaging, and I would argue more so in the long run. And Graham either can't or won't realize that.

Now, if Trump had enough military support (I don't think he does yet) he could suspend Congress and the Supreme Court, send all of the Representatives, Senators, and SCOTUS Justices so Guantanamo, and proclaim himself Lord Protector of the Realm for life. And then he could name Melania as the Dowager Empress, and Protectress of the Realm until such time as Lord Barron Trump is fit to take over his role as Emperor of North America, Greenland and the Associated Territories.

-------

I can't even get that far. Yes - packing the judiciary with strict Constitutionalists can't solve the problem - the judiciary was been overstepping its proper role for over 200 years, and gotten more arbitrary, capricious and morally rancid with each successive generation.

But even to approach the problem in that insufficient manner assumes facts not in evidence, as the legal eagles say.

Where are these Constitutionalists we're supposed to be packing the Courts with? Experience indicates that the majority of the "Constitutionalist" judges (or even "conservative" political cronies like Warren) are closet tyrants who let their freak flags fly soon after they have their lifetime appointments.

237 I am still crawling through McCarthy's giant FISA abuse timeline that the Epoch Times posted. This one stood out to me:

August 10
McCabe's notes state that Yates was briefed on the Papadopolous information. Comey, McCabe and Yates would all tell IG Horowitz that they did not recall this conversation, despite the existence of McCabe's notes.

Let's take that at face value and assume - against all evidence - that the three of them were being truthful and they did not remember the conversation. There was evidence that the meeting took place, they didn't remember, and the told the IG that.

Contrast that with Flynn. He spoke with the Russian ambassador while on vacation in the DR. He acknowledged that when speaking with FBI agents (who broke protocol) about the call. He didn't remember some detail about the call and said as much or he remembered a detail incorrectly.

These are similar scenarios on the face of things. Many details differ (and the FBI didn't think Flynn was lying at the time, but that is all neither here to there to the point I am driving at), but these are similar scenarios.

Flynn was accused of lying and had his life destroyed over it while Comey, McCabe and Yates have had no consequences over what is effectively the same event.

This is the deep state. Right here, in full relief.

Too much faith - and power - resides in the Judiciary. Simply reforming it is a half-measure that won't last.

Yeah, the only real justification I can imagine for a congressional hearing about a potentially criminal matter is to begin to collect information that would then get turned over to the DOJ to pursue. It's why hearings are so much more prominent when a chamber is out of power in comparison to the White House. They have to do something because the White House isn't going to do it.

The case around the hoax has been building within the DOJ for at least a year, if we go by Durham's appointment. What information is the Senate going to dredge up to hand over to the DOJ that the DOJ hasn't already gotten?

Obama had plans to "fundamentally transform" the country, and you don't do that by just spying on one candidate. The real problem, I think, is that Congress has been abdicating it's role more and more, until it's become almost completely irrelevant to the actual running of the country. Congress was always the one that should have stepped in and stopped the courts from taking over, but Congress was GLAD to let someone else deal with all of the hard questions, while they just sat back and talked about bullshit while collecting their fat paychecks.

An overly powerful Judiciary is the symptom, but an incompetent and useless Congress is the disease.

The bureaucracy as well, which is the main effective lawmaking body in the US. I think it's an intrinsic problem to the design though. Attempting a balance of powers by dividing executive, legislative, and judiciary functions is not wholly possible and creates some serious administration issues. Balance of power is necessary, how to create it needs revision.

297 I don't doubt Obama was front and center on this attack on Trump and his campaign. His "leaked" phone convo the other day is the tell. And I agree with you that argue Democrats will not be shy about going after Trump, post presidency. But that will only be if they can get some political advantage from it. I can't be sure of this but it seems to me Republicans do not want to set the precedent for investigating a past POTUS, which Dems would use to justify their investigation.

I have been assured that GOP Congressional inaction in the face of a marauding Leftist DoJ is completely acceptable because Congress has no ability to interfere with the DoJ.

But if that's the case, if it's all political and carries no legal weight - then why the hell not?

It's not as if the DoJ will ever lay one pasty, chubby little finger on Obama or Clinton. And even if they would consider in that one million moons, then Congress can't affect their investigation, anyway.

Nothing to lose, right?

Haul them across the boards in the Court of Public Opinion.

I certainly don't expect any of this to materialize in an actual Court. I expect "decline to prosecute" for the key players, and "no bill of indictment" for the underlings. Any unlucky enough to face a trial, in the event that happens, will be acquitted.

So, at this rate, Congressional theater is likely the best thing we can squeeze out of this shitty, dried-up lemon.

I think it's the least we can expect of our elected GOP officials - a blustery and toothless show of support for their own Party's beleaguered President. I don't think that's such an unreasonable demand...

This is the essence of Victor Davis Hanson's lectures (and it's a common theme in much of his work) on deterrence. Why did Hitler think he could defeat the combined economic, industrial and military power of the US and Britain and the USSR? Because he thought they wouldn't fight. When they started to fight, he thought they didn't mean it.

It comes down to deterrence. We have nukes but will we use them? We have military superiority or supremacy in almost all things, but will we use it? Are we a real tiger or a paper one?

Losing deterrence is high-risk and expensive, but nowhere near as risky or expensive as regaining it. And it isn't just military. The same argument applies in many dimensions.

342 Thing about the judiciary is that the problem is systemic, has been for some time, and while changing personnel (judges) is great and the right thing to do - and the only practical option, unless a transformation occurs within the Senate GOP (and that party has 60 reliable votes there) - obviously it is a holding action of sorts.

It's clear there's no chance it will happen, because the Legal Cult mindset (deference to courts, any court, without any reference to law or the constitution) has a death-grip at all levels, including most of Trump's legal people.

Wish there were a breaking point. The district court outrage in one of the asylum cases, in which the judge specifically flouted the statute limiting his jurisdiction, actually caused the Unthinkable to be raised at fairly high levels in DOJ, according to an inside source. But - nothing.

Absent congressional action - and if judges are defiantly ignoring statutory jurisdiction limits, even congressional action seems to no longer be sufficient - then at some point repudiation by the executive is the only choice.

Unless one just wants to continue to muddle along and hope for the best, which is not much of a strategy. Unless, against the odds, the "personnel strategy" (judges) is available indefinitely (via control of Senate and WH), the inertia of the other side will eventually have its day. That inertia includes, of course, a degraded legal education system, to back up and propagate the lawless, authoritarian social engineering model, with fresh blood, being graduated every year.

Clinton's cachet is still relatively high but he's not contemporary (and he had those icky "woman" problems) so they use him very sparingly. They generally rotate between Hillary, the Obamas, Kerry, Romney and Pelosi to distribute their Message of the Day.

The tell is they all make their statements in the same "buzzword" marketing voice. This generates "headlines" which carry the news cycle until the next one steps up with more "news". The DNC just changes the messenger to make their message seem novel and interesting.

The judicial system changed forever because people were fed up with corruption. It can happen again.

384 I'm convinced most of these guys cashed in on foreign policy legislation they pushed. McCain and Graham (Ukraine)...McConnell (China)...etc. All of this was uncovered through the illegal searches documented of the NSA meta-data that the democrats used and are using as opposition research. Essentially, they had access to deposit information through tapping of phone/computer lines between these guys and their banking representatives. It's why Ryan and Gowdy took early vacations. They thought that by removing themselves from their positions they would not be subject to the extortion they brought on themselves.

Interestingly, Graham has stated that he is stepping down from his committee position....same reason.

Why won't they bring in the big catch for questioning. Simple, they'll get exposed as well for totally unrelated things. And, they think that creates a Constitutional crisis....you know...tossing half of congress out on its ass.

The entire SIC (Burr) is corrupt. Hell, the documentation is out there of how they tried to railroad the current president by trying to set up direct meetings with Steele off the record.

It's another of this TOO BIG to FAIL scenarios. They rationalize continued corruption by saying that punishing everyone responsible would create crisis too big to overcome. When if fact it is just personal self preservation.

385 Meh. I actually agree with Lindsay on this. Its not a good idea IMO to drag the last POTUS into legal challenges. Just throw the book at Brennan, Rice, Comey, Yates etc. and if they whine "but I was just following orders" I believe the law says something about having a duty to refuse to follow a clearly illegal order. The POTUS might not know the details of the laws but the DOJ folks have a duty to look it up if they don't know something is illegal and the NSC folks have attorneys they can consult. Its good enough if
Nixon and Obama are linked together as illegally spying on the other party nominees.

So Biden just tipped his hand regarding how they will attack Trump because it's tough to tie the economy to Trump now, as the virus isn't his fault.

387 Regarding the FBI and CIA meddling in our elections, it seems as if many people are working under the assumption that Brennen and Comey were the first. commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the
intelligence and law enforcement communities 'by the book' " Rice
emailed to herself. "The president stressed that he is not asking about,
initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective.
He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it
normally would by the book."

And let me interpret:

"Obama began the conversation by stressing that the IC and LE communities should do everything possible to frame Flynn and Trump. And this email is just for pretend."

417 These same people won't even consider investigating Clinton just because she is a former first lady. You think they have the stones to investigate the First Black President?

Disagree. God still has His hand on this nation.

I'm also a natural optimist.

422 Last night, Tucker laid into Gowdy, as well. But then he pulled a lot of punches and mostly let big-talking Gowdy and the House Reps off the hook.

423 I hate to say it, but I think Obama should be left alone for the time being. If he gets indicted, the Dems have a great election issue of their favorite kind - racial. Instead let the other targets know they are on the hook instead of him, and encourage them to sing about his role for leniency.

People go to jail, but Obama skates, and everyone knows his legacy is bullshit. He's Judas. For a fatuous narcissist like him, that's the cruelest punishment!

424 A baby should be celebrated with balloons, teddy bears, champagne and cigars. Who comes bearing those things is immaterial. But someone has to.

Call him in to a private meeting in the Oval

Layout the evidence against him

Tell him
a revolver and one round are being delivered to his fancy home in DC

Tell him he has twenty-four hours "to do the right thing"
