The Morning Report - 3/24/20

clysuc.jpg

Good morning, kids. Tuesday and I am here to warn you that there is a deadly disease that is afflicting this nation. It's eating at the vitals, to paraphrase Lincoln; a cancer that has metastasized for decades that is on the verge of destroying every man, woman and child unless the most radical and drastic measures are done, and soon.

No, I'm not talking about the Wok-in Pneumonia from a Fledermaus Raw Stew. I'm referring to the Democrat Party and its house organ propaganda wing, the American media. To whatever degree this COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus poses a mortal health risk to the entire nation or is merely a more than typically virulent strain of flu virus, the fact of the matter is our President is using his executive branch authority to mitigate the impact of the current "pandemic," hampered by the massive incompetence and negligence of the previous administration during its mishandling of the 2009 Swine Flu epidemic, while responsible leaders in Congress (99.999% not Democrat) are attempting to stave off an economic catastrophe caused by the shutting down of virtually all commerce.

Whatever our divisions are, and for my money they are deep and most likely irreconcilable, you would think that the Democrat Party - in the face of the constant drumbeat by said party and it's media arm that this is an absolute incontestable existential threat to our way of life and life itself - would put everything aside and get together to alleviate the damage. You would think. But no, they didn't. At the last moment, Malig-Nancy Pelosi, who is now arguably the most horrid human being in this country and among the top five in the world, has spit up a giant ball of virus-laden catarrh in the face of the American people by holding the emergency aid package hostage; an aid package that she, her cohort in evil Cuck Schemer and GOP leadership had hammered out and agreed upon over the previous few days.

Like the not-so-cunning stunt of ripping up the President's SOTU speech, this was also a premeditated act. Rejecting the Senate bill that she herself helped craft because it supposedly has secret codicils to help Trump and his advisors' businesses profit from it - a provable lie - she then magically whipped out a 1,400 page monstrosity that contains every Leftist radical policy wet dream that soaks the American taxpayer and derails the MAGA agenda. The calculus is that the American people, desperate for relief will blame the President and the GOP for playing politics and prolonging their agony. So far, from everything I've seen, it has enraged and galvanized a usually wobbly GOP behind the President whose approval rating is rising even in the face of this challenge. No doubt, he is going to go on the warpath against the Democrats, and justifiably so.

Whether this Too Wong Flu really is a plague of catastrophic proportions or just hyped to make headlines and political hay, or some combination of both, I stand by my opening assertion. The Democrat Party and the media are at best behaving in a seditious manner during a time of national crisis or indeed ginning up a crisis in order to gain political advantage. Either way, it's monstrous and evil. Loathsome toad James Clyburn admits as much by boasting that the virus gives his party a "tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision." I thought that's what elections were supposed to do, but hey, what the hell do I know, right?

In any case, my response to Mr. Clyburn is a simple one: Go To Hell. And take your goddam party with you.

But the bloated tick does have a point. In the spirit of never letting a good crisis go to waste, the President has the opportunity to point out the horrendous deficiencies in bloated central government bureaucracies, the insanity of how they have all been corrupted to advance socialist/social justice transformation of American society, and the even more insane trade policies from corporatist sell-outs that shipped our manufacturing sector and millions of jobs overseas. Most alarmingly to a nation that is a mortal enemy and hell bent on global domination.

Here's my vision, Mr. Clyburn:

  • Putting America on the moral and legal equivalent of a war footing and enacting legislation that suspends every DC agency's regulatory power in order to expedite the building of new factories here in the US.

  • Tax incentives for investment firms and companies to build said plants.

  • Mandating the hiring of American citizens only.

  • Suspension of union-only shops and onerous regulations.

  • Tax penalties for companies who ignore the previous two items.

  • Incentives for the establishment and expansion of trade/technical schools, as well as for students and older Americans to learn a trade.

  • Consigning "diversity" and all other "social justice" garbage that hampers business to the rubbish heap.

  • Opening up of all federal and state lands for energy exploration while killing green energy boondoggles.

That's just for starters. Of course these are all temporary measures, much like the federal income tax was "temporary" until the end of World War One (wink-wink). I'd like to put at the top the dissolution of the Democrat Party but let's stick with some attainable goals for the present. I'm sure we all can think of all kinds of ideas that can go into this battle plan or manifesto for the future. We're going to need it. There are a few flies in the ointment, not least of which is going to be the almighty shrieking from the Left in opposition as well as the corporatist traitors and sell outs at the Chamber of Commerce who were instrumental in getting us into this mess in the first place.

Even if the President eases up on the lockdown as he is indicating he may do in the next week or so, our economy has taken a massive hit. We are going to need bold measures not to further encumber and enslave us with more bureaucracy but ones that liberate us from it and get us back on the track of economic independence as individuals and as a nation. That is what MAGA is all about. In that spirit, we can overcome this crisis and turn catastrophe into a boom that will make the past three years seem like a drop in the ocean.

The only thing that stands in the way of course is the Democrat Party and the Globalists. Having exhausted every means they could think of to get rid of Trump and us, they are now poised to commit national suicide. That cannot be allowed to stand.

All of the most absurdly shaped House districts are designed to collect enough minority votes to elect a minority House member.

I'm sure they were familiar with the concept of quarantine and didn't oppose its use when warranted, but they obviously didn't let the constant threat of death from disease stop them from living, nor did they expect the citizenry to either.

    ============

I cannot imagine the chaos that would erupt if Biden were shuffled to the side in favor of anyone else.

Biden looks like he's winning the primary pretty honestly with Bernie's support simply a very explainable shadow of what it was in 2016. That won't satisfy some Bernie fans, but it's good enough for most.

Biden suddenly going away in the middle of the primary? Or at the convention? Yes, Biden's a rambling old fool with diminished ability from a point that wasn't that high to begin with, but the party faithful have been getting used to the idea of him for weeks, soon to be months. Suddenly saying, "Nope, it's Cuomo, or whoever, now," is a seismic event within the party with no real precedent. I cannot imagine the DNC taking that kind of risk when the biggest risk of a Biden nomination is Bernie's hardcore supporters refused to take part, and the loss can be mostly attributed to Biden being an idiot.

135 I had just rather Republicans walk away from the bill before giving in to the donks. Let the country know we tried but the donks blew the thing up.

    --

I couldn't stress ^^THIS^^ enough if I tried. There is no damned way in hell there should be any deal here. This is a relief bill. This is not intended for any other purpose. And if they try to make it that way, I fully believe the American people (the normal ones...and I always have to say that) will be on Trump's side. Make them eat every word of their leftist laundry list in their "deal" and sell it to the people. They won't be able to at a time when millions are going to be without jobs or futures.

I see a golden opportunity for Trump to show the country just what they're up to at this time of great, catastrophic upheaval.

-Thomas Jefferson to Abigail Adams, 1804

We've crossed the Rubicon of understanding that Jefferson spoke so eloquently of. When we face such a manifest and existential crisis such as the one we now confront, and one side decides the route is towards destruction, subjugation, despotism and government control: we are no longer pursuing the "same good". We are on different paths that lead to different ends, with one undermining and destroying our republic.

I suppose at some point people will realize this is now about two completely different visions. One that leads to individual liberty, freedom and the "pursuit of happiness", which Jefferson ensured was part of our declaration and which he borrowed quite rightly from people like Henry Home and Lord Kames. The other leads us back to despotism, to government control, the seizure of our rights, our property and our lives because Democrats believe that type of autocracy best suits their political goals. This is manifestly true due to the fact their ends demonstrably, both in the past and now, do not serve the public good.

Let's hope we can overcome this lurch towards destructive, authoritarian, divisive, partisan acrimony. Because right now our nation depends on defeating it.

    Sorry for the length...

Trump showed that you break the mold and do things differently but you still have to build a movement of loyal supporters. How would someone like Cuomo parachute into the campaign in the summer when nobody cares about the election and particularly not this year when people have more immediate things to worry about and build any kind of serious support base?

Using the FBI and the CIA to rig elections wasn't bad enough. Now they want to use sick people, too.

Breitbart: ""Ballot harvesting" was legalized in California in 2016; and first used in the 2018 midterm elections. It allows anyone to drop off someone else's mail-in ballot at a polling station. There is no process for vetting or verifying those delivering the ballots--no background checks or identification requirements. Democrats dropped hundreds of thousands of ballots off at polling stations in 2018, helping Democrats as they flipped seven Republican seats.

The practice is illegal in most other states, largely because it is susceptible to fraud and intimidation.
Paid party operatives can literally truck thousands and thousands of ballots to the polls...

It is a practice that is known in Third World countries as "ballot stuffing," and is outlawed in every democracy, no matter how poor--even in countries where the physical and administrative obstacles to voting are far greater than in the world's most developed economy.

193 I just read through that Twitter series by @AlecStapp about how the FDA screwed us all on delaying testing rights to labs for six weeks. I'm not clear how much the testing helps, but when the patient is in the more serious phase, they certainly need to test, and earlier is probably better.

Hillary's Resistance Bureaucrats sure don't mind retaining central control ...even if it was more incompetence than sabotage, the damage from the permanent bureaucratic swamp is far reaching. And even now, I'm not sure if the tests are getting better ... it was only 70% confidence in results ... crazy. They need like 99%.

But Dr. Zelenko says he has successfully treated 300 patients with 100% success using the Trump Cocktail. The CQ plus Z-pak has solved the fever and other issues in 4-6 hours ... yet a NY ER overseer I saw in a JAMA interview was very cautious about it ... after in depth explanation of the long complications their many ICU patients were having.

Long term time in ICU, many deaths ... or easily resolved at first signs of fever? hmmm ... sure seems they should be looking more intently at the "Trump Cocktail" solution. Maybe they should let another 2000 die first, out of an "abundance of caution" ... wouldn't want to step on any FDA officials' toes. #2weeks

220 There are two things that the government could do to make the economy of the U.S. go through the roof and stay there.

One: The Fair Tax Plan. Tax consumption instead of income. Want to have businesses build factories in the U.S.? No corporate tax. No income tax. The U.S. would become the world's biggest tax haven.

Two: The standard of living has always taken a jump forward whenever energy has become more plentiful and cheaper. Energy conservation works to reduce the standard of living. Build 500 identical 300 Mw modular reactors on federal ground scattered across the country and feed local grids with free power. Base industries would thrive and new businesses that we don't even know about would be created.

228 Why Coronavirus Crisis May Be Over Sooner Than Many Think

    ******

My thoughts have been along the same lines as this guy. I think the number to key on is the daily rate of increase. That is to say, how many new cases there are today, as a percentage of yesterday's grand total.

In the US that number was as high as ~50% last week, the last couple of days down a little at ~32%.

In Italy, it has come down from about 20% last week to under 10% today, and now for the last two days Italy has had fewer total new cases each day than the day before.

When that number gets below about 10% in a given region the number of new cases will noticeably slow and will have turned the corner.

How long that will take remains unknown, and there are so many variables at play (including population density, testing strategies/protocols, weather, cultural attributes, public health policies, etc.) that predictions are full of pitfalls, but I am seeing some encouraging trends in some areas.

Some were shocked when I first posted this a week ago, but now I think it's obvious: There is not going to be a market for a single commercial aircraft sale for the next 2 years, at least. Every airline in the world now has hundreds of nearly new planes sitting on the ground, unused. They'll be selling for 10 cents on the original dollar soon.

and just to belabor the obvious, that means that to stay open, Boeing is going to have to pay all of their employees to sit in the break room and watch TV for the next two years.

    >>In the US that number was as high as ~50% last week, the last couple of days down a little at ~32%.

I'd like more information on the number of actual tests being done on a daily basis. It's not a static number and has been growing as more test kits become available but it's hard finding hard numbers.

Also be interested in seeing the distribution of where the testing is happening. NYC clearly has a different rate than South Dakota and again, hard to find specific information on this either.

a lot of assumptions there. Boeing was the blue chip king up until a year ago. Today they are a cautionary tale and some ask it we need them lol. Just like the stock market peaked a month ago and today it is the end of the world.

I say if you care about actual manufacturing and not just apps, Boeing and other companies like Honeywell will always be at the forefront. The thing is, even if Boeing were horribly managed and a joke, we still would have to support it. I think Buffet once said (don't quote me here) that the airline industry from the time of Wilbur and Orville has never made a dime. But the thing is, even if airlines are net losers, we would have to support them today because they are the backbone or our economy. The airlines in toto might never make a dime over the long run, but the economy needs them to function.

315 I'd like more information on the number of actual tests being done on a daily basis. It's not a static number and has been growing as more test kits become available but it's hard finding hard numbers.

    *******

I agree. It is hard to compare rates of confirmed cases when the testing protocols and even the actual type of test performed are moving targets.

I have noticed one interesting side note. In both Washington and Colorado (possibly other states as well) the number of positive tests compared to the total number of tests performed (presumably on patients with some degree of symptoms) runs at about 10% (roughly). So of people getting tested because of symptoms, 90% have something other than COVID-19.

The other number that is hard to get is total number of cases (subclinical and/or untested) that exist in the general population.

341 There are two things that the government could do to make the economy of the U.S. go through the roof and stay there.

You avoided the central question; how does even Boeing survive without even one penny of income (except for direct government subsidies) for 2 years or more? Where does that cash come from, except from the government?

Now I agree, we're going to fund them. But when they become effectively just another government agency, with all employees paid by the government, shouldn't the US accept ownership in return, with the hope they can be privatized again at some point in the future? Otherwise we're just handing out cash and getting nothing at all in return.

Same thing goes for the airlines - private ownership is failing, for the moment. I honestly think the French model of nationalizing them makes more sense then shoveling pallets of cash to them. We have to do something, because all corporate airlines will be shutting down within the month if something isn't done. Southwest, one of the best run, issued a statement about that this morning as they canceled 1500 flights.

If the consequence of government regulation is already driving more than 50% of their costs then they're really already a government entity aren't they? Just take the ODA model for FAA work and expand that to the rest business. Government provides the cash but most everything else is delegated.

I wouldn't want things to stay that way because they'ed become the post office but I don't see regulatory burdens ever reducing. So a plan to become profitable and pay back the government + interest. Then let go.

I think I understand what you are getting at but I do not accept the idea of nationalization There is a term for this that I can't pull up but the jist is that if someone has a serious knowledge of a subject, they can easily see politicos have no clue what they are talking about when discussing that subject. But for some reason many just assume the gov know their stuff when the subject is different.

The gov bailed out savings and loans. The gov bailed out banks and so many others. Warren Buffet stepped in and gave Ford and many others a deal they could not refuse though he crushed them. No way is the federal government going to take over Boeing.. Are we going to be like the Brits in the 60s and 70s? If anything drastic must be done, break it up and allow for more competition.

Airbus is ok as the only other alternative. But their biggest fault by far was too much government regulation. Their biggest advantage was that many governments subsidized them, but they never produced a plane the equal of a Boeing.

If we nationalize Boeing, we are saying capitalism doesn't work. I am not willing to do that. If we have to go that far, let it fail and see who steps up to fill in the void.

Would anyone here be shocked if, some time in the next few weeks, we learned that the CCP had 'seeded' the US with hundreds of carriers? Is there anything you'd put past them?

If we nationalize Boeing, we are saying capitalism doesn't work. I am not willing to do that. If we have to go that far, let it fail and see who steps up to fill in the void.

simple reason we can't let them fail - start up costs for construction on that level are too high. If the fail, we go to One airline manufacturer for the world, which will be named Airbus.

It's not like the materials, facilities, and expertise disappears with a bankruptcy, though.

376 The idea that no one will buy a plane for two years comes from where exactly?"

Simple logic, and supply and demand. There are about to be at least 1,000 (or more) nearly new jetliners parked in storage around the world, as airline travel collapses not just here, but everywhere. (already happening) Any time that level of glut happens in any market, sales prices drop to about 10 cents on the dollar. (oil drilling rigs in West Texas are dropping to that level right now) And once prices for nearly new items go that low, new construction comes to a dead halt for years - this was one of the biggest problems with the Great Depression of the 30's. And sometimes it can take a decade to work off overhanging inventory, which happened with oil equipment in 1986.

I watched an extremely large and specialized industry, the Texas oil and gas business complete with hundreds of specialized manufacturers of highly technical goods, completely vaporize in 1986. (also in Louisiana and the Gulf) 5 years later, all of the people I had known who had been geologists, and engineers, and technical specialists were real estate agents, and small restaurant owners, and some worked as clerks in Home Depot and Lowe's.

So yes, all of that expertise can just blow away with enough bankruptcies. It only comes back with a new generation, and that can take 20 - 30 years.

378 Things aren't bad here, aside from the Great Assroll Shortage. I'm pretty lucky in that my wife's work is deemed essential and she also has the option to work from home. My job is paying us out of their pocket for two weeks, although what happens after that I dunno. The county commissioners shut down all non-essentials for at least a month. Might use some vacation, might take fmla if I need to. Either way, we're better off than alot of others.

I've got a bunch of old junk cars around here to tinker with if I get too stir crazy. But right now I'm drinking coffee and watching Star Trek 2 (the real one, not the Jar Jar Abrams remake) with my kids who's school is shut down for the year and enjoying what life has handed me.

379 Just home from work where I load 3 UPS package cars. Today I loaded more ammo than I have seen since I started working there 2 years ago. Carton after carton after carton. I live in mid-Ohio but have never seen that much ammo come through.

381 Democrats - the al-Qaeda Kamikazes of America: willing to literally destroy the economy (and millions of lives) just to get back at Trump and MAGA. Even the word evil hardly encompasses their disgusting party anymore.

He's listening to Dr. Amy Acton (Head of OH Dept. of Health) and she does not impress me. She comes across as an immature person thrust into the spotlight and making decisions because she has to be seen "doing something." I have noticed that the male doctor from OSU medical has disappeared from the press conferences -- I wonder if he is not on-board with this madness and voiced his displeasure.
